E're's POV
Fati's eyes were narrowed, as were my own. Energy danced around us like fire, and the rubble beneath our feet used to be the top two floors of the Tower. Neither one of us had move from where we stood, other to regain balance.
For some reason, Fati hadn't unleashed her full power yet, mostly using Loki's energy and a little of her own to blast away at me.
All of my attacks had been ignored, and her power had either absorbed them, or deflected them. I didn't know what she was planning, but it seemed like she was stalling.
My mind was whirling a million miles a second, and even though my emotions were rattling just as fast, I didn't let anything show.
"I thought you wanted to End me, Sister." I drawled, my face set like stone. Loki's face twitched but because she possessed him I couldn't get a good read on him.
My powers twisted around me like a storm, and without even moving, part of it lashed out like a whip. Fati's own, purple, energetic storm barely surged and the whip was dissolved.
"Oh, I do." Fati sneered as her storm grew in strength with her rage. I eyed her whirly as my Duties informed me that the Xmen were now in New York. I mentally sighed, knowing that they would be able to deal with the Chitauri.
"But first…first Sister Dear," With a blast of purple energy, Loki surged forwards and my eyes widened as I was pulled towards her. I tried to break free, but her magic had managed to make a suffocating hold on mine. Loki's purple eyes were only inches from mine as he leaned down, a large smirk on his face.
"I'm going to make you suffer."
It was like Infinitas had slowed time around us. I could feel everything that was going on in the city, I could sense every battle, every death every action.
Jarvis was controlling three of the older suits, one of them was fighting with Hulk, the other with Rogers; while the third was with Barton, flying around and setting up what I recognized as Dad's shield generators.
Sixteen of the Xmen had come to help, and while I only knew eight personally, I was extremely grateful. Storm was assisting Thor in bottlenecking the portal, while Wolverine, Jean, and Cyclops were battling on the ground. Nightcrawler was popping around with some of the younger teammates, keeping them out of trouble and literally bringing the Chitauri to them. I was surprised to see Hank, also known as Beast, there but it seemed that he and Hulk had managed to bond a bit. Emma Frost was also there, though she was keeping the Chitauri off of the Professor while he took over in directing the attacks.
Rogers was in shock that much was obvious in the shaking of his Soul, while Romanoff was slightly apprehensive and unnerved by the Xmen's appearance. I didn't really care much about that though; she would have to deal with it.
It wasn't any of that, or even Dad that caught my attention. The thing that I was called in to focus on was a boogie heading straight to NY, and my Soul was screaming at it.
"What did you do!?" I growled, as I struggled to free myself. But it wasn't just my powers that Fati had managed to latch on to, but my arms as well. Loki was strong, like any other Asgardian, and even though I was an Immortal, for some reason, at the moment my strength was failing me.
Loki's baritone chuckle echoed in my ear, "I did nothing, the Mortals are going to be the one to destroy your Realm, I'm just the one who's going to make sure that you can't fix it."
I growled and threw all of my power at him, the power lit up the sky once again and Loki's arms started to burn, he physically wasn't able to stand up to an Immortal's power.
"This is MY Realm Fati!" I snarled, as my Soul screamed as my Duties called out to me. "It's my JOB to fix it!"
"Oh," Fati sneered happily, "I know, but have you ever seen what happens when an Immortal fails? Hmm Sister dear? I've been around much longer than you, I've seen things that you can't even imagine…even what happens to a failed Immortal. But, I suppose you have some idea…you've seen Insania after all."
"FATI!" I roared, rage boiling within my voice. My magic and sparks twisted together, before joining my Immortal power. The Core's merged in my chest, almost becoming one. My eyes flashed bright blue and a massive shock wave exploded from me, throwing Loki off of me, and sending ripples through the city.
I stared down the possessed Asgardian as the back of my mind tracked the Nuke. Fati had denied taking any action, but I knew better. This had her name written all over it.
"That," I stated coldly, standing up straight and letting my power wrap around me like a storm, "Was not a wise move."
Fati just chuckled, a smirk on her face, as a bright blue light flashed over the city and my senses felt a strong shield encompass a twelve block radius, trapping the Chitauri and the battle, within.
"Oh," Fati spoke like she was commenting on the weather, "I think it was."
I had to drop to the ground, to avoid the purple wave of energy coming towards me, but I was quick to counteract it, blasting her back with a wave of my own. Purple fire erupted around Loki and I smirked as blue lightning started to dance around me. I was back on my feet faster than even Fati could blink and with a twist of my wrist, a long bright silver sword constructed completely out of energy appeared in my hand.
Fati was holding back for some reason, and while I was as well, it was for a whole different reason. I just didn't want to destroy this world by its seams.
Fati chuckled and without even moving, her energy created a large, flaming broadsword in her hand.
"You think you're a match for me!?" She exclaimed as we jumped together, our power spiking and sending waves of magic and power into the air once again. Our swords clashed and my hood finally fell back. I twisted under Fati's attack, using her own strength against her to push her back.
"I know I am!" I snarled and we locked blades again as our aura's clashed together like two tidal waves.
Fati chuckled and I growled at her again, my eyes narrowed. In my rage, I didn't notice the screaming of my Duties, or the warning's in my Soul.
I was too pissed to notice.
Which wasn't exactly a good thing.
Tony's POV
I glanced up at the major light show going on with worry. It had gone from simple flashes of light to waves and waves that never stopped. Just a moment ago, the whole city had shaken with the power, and I knew that many of the people fighting were unnerved, and afraid, of the two battling it out on top of the Tower.
The Xmen arriving really had been a blessing, and now that the shield was up as well, I had a feeling that we had a fighting chance. Jarvis had manipulated the coding of the shield so that it was more like a damn then a dome, keeping the sky around the Portal open, so that the Chitauri would be inside as soon as they flew down from the portal, instead of on the outside.
"Stark,"
I almost froze as I shock another two Chitauri back, Wolverine was tearing them apart in the corner of my vision, and I could see Thor flying around above me. But the voice wasn't from anyone on the battlefield, and it especially wasn't on the open com.
"What is it Coulson," I grunted as I dropped suddenly to avoid another energy blast, before returning fire. My Reactor was slowly losing power, and my suit was getting pretty banged up. At one point an energy blast had hit my leg, and while I did't think it was broken, it still hurt like hell.
"The Council has overridden Fury, they believe that the situation is out of control." Phil's voice was hard, but I could hear the worry in his voice.
"I sort of agree with them." I stated simply, dodging another three energy attacks and punching another two Chitauri out of the air.
"You won't want to." Phil growled and I was taken back for a moment, before worry consumed me. Something was wrong.
"What happened!?" I demanded as I Jarvis searched through their databases.
"The Counsel launched a nuke; it'll be there in less than two minutes." Coulson stated urgently, and I wanted to hit the man.
"Why didn't you say so in the first place?!" I exclaimed before I heard Phil sigh. "I'm on it Phil, you can relax."
"That won't happen till this is all over." Coulson replied before cutting the link.
"Guys! We have a nuke incoming!" I exclaimed through the open com, knowing that the Professor would relay the message to all of the mutants.
"WHAT!?" The cry echoed through both the com and my mind as everyone who knew what a nuke was screamed.
"Will you shields be able to hold?" Xavier's voice echoed through my mind and I shook my head as I used my last missile to destroy the Chitauri behind me. I shot off higher into the sky.
"No, they're still prototypes, I'm just glad that they've been able to keep the Chitauri here." I stated as I flew past Thor and the edge of the shield.
My mind was whirling with all of the probabilities and likely hoods of about twenty different plans, before almost instantly; I picked the one with the lowest body count.
"Jarvis, drop the shields and boost their power! Prepare to reconstruct their location to the event horizon after I punch it through! They just need to last another three minutes!" I exclaimed to my AI before returning the attention towards the people in the field. "I know just where to put it."
I knew that Xavier had already seen my plan or at least peaked at it, for he was the first to respond.
"There can be another way."
I glance back over at the large lightshow that still flared across the Tower, without disrupting the Tesseract and I sighed. Penny wouldn't be able to handle this herself, and this was the best option.
My math was never wrong.
"Stark, you know that this is a one way trip right?" I was surprised to see that it was Rogers who said this.
I didn't reply, but I knew that I suddenly had his respect, and for once, I didn't care.
"I've done the math Rogers." I replied as I sped past the outskirts of the city and over the water.
"You don't have to throw your life away!" He exclaimed, and the 'because your daughter is dead' was left unsaid.
"Best probabilities," I stated, keeping my voice level, while there was a very slim chance that I was going to survive this, there was still a chance, one that I was going to take.
Suddenly, the com was muted and Jarvis' voice echoed through the privet link. "You know fully well that I could drive that missile into the portal. That's a plan without probable casualties of any kind, sir."
I raised an eyebrow as I flew around the incoming missile and gripped it tightly. There was worry in Jarvis' voice, but also…a touch of fear, for me.
"Don't worry Jar; your sister will take care of you." I stated knowing that Pen would take care of him and the bots.
"That's not the point sir!" Jarvis snapped and I shook my head.
"Convert all remaining power to the thrusters Jar." I stated and Jarvis didn't reply, though he did comply.
"DAD!"
My heart almost froze as I heard Penny's panicked voice in my ear. She sounded out of breath, panicked, and completely frazzled. I could tell by the large purple glow around the Tower that she hadn't managed to kick the puppetmaster's butt yet.
"It'll be alright Pen," I stated calmly even though I was anything but inside. "Just take care of the Tesseract and get Thor's brother back to normal."
"NO!" Her voice cut through my heart like a knife and I winced. "You're NOT flying into that portal with a nuke!"
"Yes, yes I am Pen." I stated, and I was suddenly glad that none of the others could hear me. "Dropping the bomb down the rabbit hole is the best idea I have…"
I paused for a moment, and my heart almost turned to ice as I realized that Pen was trying to hold back sobs.
I flew past the battle field and with another push angled right towards the rift.
"You're coming back Dad, do you hear me?! You're not giving up!" Penny exclaimed in my ear, and I winced at her words.
"Sir, should I try Miss Potts?" Jarvis asked his tone sad and he too seemed like he was choking back tears; which was a weird tone for an AI to have, though Jarvis was so much more than just an AI.
"Sure," I stated, and gazed at Pepper's picture on screen. Almost as if he was reading my mind, Jar pulled up a picture of the three of us on the couch. My heart clenched as I gazed at the picture.
"Dad, Daddy!"
I closed my eyes as I neared the event horizon, trying to ignore the pain in my heart that had nothing to do with shrapnel and the abyss in my mind.
"Penny…baby…" I choked out as I flew right into the portal, "Let me go."
The last thing I heard was Pen's heart clenching scream.
O.O well, this turned out differently than I thought it would…it was supposed to be this whole fight scene between the two girls…yeah, I suppose that I'm not too good with fight scenes that don't get totally out of control…
This wasn't too bad though, and next chapter you'll get to see what happened on Pen's side.
Thanks for reading, and reviews are welcomed with open arms!
