Chapter 9: The Blue Dragon's Son

A/N: To note, whether the Fiore Dragons' blood can actually do these things, who knows. And who cares? Just enjoy the story.

"I shall tell you my tale," Drake said. "I will tell you how I became a new breed of Dragon Slayer."

"A new breed?" said a puzzled Wendy. "How is that possible?"

"I shall tell you everything."

I don't remember much before the Blue Lightning Dragon known as Raziel took me in. All I know is that I was a young lad, only 6 years at the time. My family and I were traveling across the country when we were attacked by bandits. I was the only survivor, but it was not for long, for I took a sword strike to the chest and was bleeding out. I was terrified at the thought of dying in such a manner.

Then he appeared. I trembled in fear even with death creeping upon me. His emerald green eyes which stared into my soul. His blue scaly skin glimmered in the sun. He looked at me with keen interest. I feared he was going to gobble me up along with the corpses of my family. Instead, he spoke.

"Are you still alive, boy?" the Dragon said. I could barely speak. I rolled over to reveal my wound. He stared at me a while, then inched closer with the intent to feed. But instead, he froze. As for what made the Dragon Raziel stop, I do not know.

Raziel then went to his foot and bit into it, opening a cut and dribbling crimson red blood down onto the ground. "Drink my blood," he said. I did not understand. "Drink it and you will live."

And so I partook of dragon blood. The blood flowed through my veins, overtaking and mixing in with my human blood. My wounds healed almost instantly. Raziel was impressed, and he took me away to his home cave far, far away. There, he taught me everything. He trained me for many years to utilize the magic of Dragon Slaying and his blue lightning.

In time, I learned to harness the power of my new dragon blood. I learned I could protect myself by encasing my skin with scales. My eyes became sharper. I learned to do so much more. When I had finished these abilities after years, I felt like a dragon myself. Raziel was proud of me. And, of course, Raziel taught me how to wield a sword. He taught me many of the dragon's secret techniques; techniques that men had used long ago that they learned from the dragons.

Raziel was like my father, and he treated me like a son. He was strict, but fair and loving. He presented me with gifts each year such as my coat here. He gifted me with this sword, a sword infused with Dragon magic, making it capable of defeating beings unaffected by normal means, like the undead. He gifted me with chainmail crafted from his own scales, providing unparalleled protection.

Then one day, on that fateful day in the year X777, he disappeared, along with the other dragons. I searched everywhere for him, but he was gone. All I found was a letter from him in his den. He wished me the best in life and to use my magic how I see fit. Most of all, he considered me his son, and could not wish for a better one, even one of his kind.

I packed up everything of mine; the sword, the chainmail, clothes, some food and water, everything. I filled up a few pouches full of Jewels and sparkling gems varying from rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and so forth, then I sealed up the Dragon's Den forever so that others won't touch Raziel's treasure. Dragons love treasure, mind you. And so I left. I traveled for what seemed like forever. Then I met Izlawake Nascele a mere year later, and I have never had a better family.

"That is my tale, at least the important parts," finished Drake. Wendy was in awe of what she heard. In all her years, she never thought anyone could drink dragon blood.

"How strong of a Dragon Slayer are you, Drake?" she asked.

Drake patted her head and smiled. "Very, very powerful. Now, I have business to attend to, so run on home, okay?" He sent Wendy off with another smile. He watched her disappear with her Exceed Carla from his view, then turned back to his friends to attend to said business.

"That Drake fellow is quite an interesting man, isn't he?" said Carla as she hovered behind Wendy.

Wendy shrugged. "I think he is alright. Plus, it is amazing to think that dragon blood has such effects on a person." Wendy stopped skipping down the street and eyed an alleyway. "Let's go down this way for a shortcut back to the guild hall." The two changed course and headed down the alley, unaware of several shadows hiding in the cracks on either side of them.

"Is she the one?" one shadow hissed to another.

"Yes. She is the one we need," the second shadow whispered. With that, seven shadows descended upon Wendy and Carla. Wendy shrieked, but two shadows grabbed her and cut her voice off. Carla struck at one of the shadows, but another hit her over the head, knocking her out, and threw her against the wall. Before her vision faded away,Carla watched as Wendy was paralyzed with a spell and taken away. Her paw went out to grab for her, but rested upon a medallion instead. All she heard was, "Return to Nightstalker."

Carla came to a few hours later. She shook her tiny head clear and gasped, realizing what had happened. "Oh no! Wendy!" she yelled. No answer. Carla looked down at the medallion in her hand and gasped. The familiar gravestone and red-eyed bat from Erigor's medallion was imprinted upon it. With no other option, Carla took the medallion and flew straight for the Fairy Tail guild as swift as the wind.

Carla burst through the guild doors and approached Makarov. "Master Makarov, it's terrible! Wendy has been kidnapped!" she yelled. Everyone was stunned.

"Are you sure?" he questioned. "How did this happen?"

Carla shook her head. "I don't know. We were speaking with a young man named Drake Firenze today, and we took a shortcut through an alley to come back here, then we were attacked. One of them mentioned something about "Nightstalker," and dropped this." Carla handed Makarov the medallion, which perfectly matched Erigor's own.

"Great Divines above," he muttered. "You said they mentioned a Nightstalker?" Carla nodded. "Then it is true. They do exist."

Erza approached the couple. "Who exists, Master?" she asked.

Makarov sighed. "I once knew a man years ago who partook in dark magic. He preached about people who seek to utilize dark magic to perform good, such as resurrecting deceased loved ones. The guild went by the name, "Nightstalker" back then. They were hunted down and shut down almost instantly for toying with such power, even if for good intentions."

"But why would they kidnap Wendy?" asked Gray. "You said the guild was shut down."

"I did, but I heard Nightstalker resurfaced recently, and have been delving in necromantic rituals and black magic. I shudder to think what they intend to do with Wendy." Makarov finished and turned away.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" said Sanji. "There's nothing else left to do but to find little Wendy and rescue her. Leave it to me, just call me Prince Charming." He flashed a grin and puffed on his cigarette.

Zoro let out a laugh, which Sanji responded with a growl in his direction. Erza ended it before a fight broke out. "We need to gather together and send out search parties in the surrounding towns for information," she said.

"There's no need for that," stated Makarov. "If Nightstalker is roughly the same, then they should still be set up in Clover Town somewhere. Erza, I want you and Team Natsu to head there and rescue Wendy and stop Nightstalker if they are indeed there." Erza nodded and gathered her team together. Makarov turned to Luffy and the Straw Hats. "Straw Hats, I want some of you to accompany them for support."

"Whooho!" boomed Luffy. "Smells like an adventure!" Nami slapped him in the face.

"You idiot!" she said. "This isn't time for any adventure, we need to rescue Wendy!" In the end, it was Luffy, Ace, Zoro, Sanji, and Robin who decided to accompany Team Natsu. They packed up gear for the journey and headed straight for the train station and bought tickets for Clover Town.

While waiting in line, the gang ran into Izlawake Nascele and his friends. Lucy squealed like her fangirl self while Izlawake stared at her friends. "Greetings, everyone," he said with a bow. "I'm sure you know me well."

Erza shook his hand. "Hello, I have read a couple of your books. You are very talented," she complimented.

"Erza Scarlet. A pleasure to meet you." Izlawake took her hand and kissed it. She giggled as she withdrew it back. "Tell me, where are all you heading?"

Carla flew over to him. "We are heading for Clover Town to find a dark guild that has kidnapped Wendy."

Drake shot up from the book he was sifting through. "Wendy has been kidnapped?! When did this happen?!" Carla explained the situation. "Damnit! If only I had accompanied her home, this wouldn't have happened!"

Miari placed a hand on his shoulder. "You had no idea this would happen," she soothed.

Drake gritted his teeth. All he could think about was Wendy. He dropped to one knee before Izlawake. "Sir, I beseech you, please let me accompany these people to rescue Wendy Marvell," he begged. "If something happens to one of my people and I did not aide them, then I am not worthy of being a warrior."

Izlawake and his friends stared at the kneeling Drake for a moment, then he lifted his head up. "Go with them. We shall wait for your eventual return, but make sure you come back to us."

Drake nodded and shook hands with his friend. "Thank you, sir," he said. "I won't let you down." With that, Drake joined the Fairy Hat crew aboard the train, waving good bye to his friends who remained on the platform.

"You suppose he will be alright?" Miari said to her husband.

Izlawake merely smiled. "He is clearly capable of handling himself and anything around him," he said. "I know the lad well. Once he sets his sights on anything, especially a person, he will not rest until he finishes the job."

"I can tell Drake likes Wendy a little," chuckled Ellie. "He has never met another Dragon Slayer before, so he will do everything he can to protect her."

"I hope we can find Wendy in time before something awful happens," muttered Drake on the train.

Sanji slapped his shoulder. "Don't worry, buddy. We will rescue her in the nick of time, at least I shall," he said, puffing out a heart-shaped smoke cloud.

"Either way," commented Gray, now half-naked. "We still don't know where this Nightstalker guild is set up, and finding information will be very difficult, especially concerning them being a Dark Guild."

"Gray, your clothes!" exclaimed Natsu. Gray slipped his clothes back on with haste. "Why must you always strip in public?!"

"Shut up, you little red lizard! It's a habit of mine!"

How about you quit the words and pull out the fists!" The boys did not have time to even throw a punch before Robin entrapped them both in her many hands and holding them in place until they calmed down.

"You boys can be a handful at times," she remarked.

Natsu and Gray let out a muffled "Sorry," and remained silent for the rest of the trip until they disembarked at Clover Town Station. Natsu unloaded his lunch onto the platform floor. "Alright, let's find Wendy!" he yelled. Everyone fist bumped the air in agreement.

Deep underground Clover Town, the team of men who captured Wendy presented her unconscious corpse to a tall man wearing a dark purple cloak around him, his face obscured in the hood. "Master," one of the men whispered. "We have brought the catalyst."

The Hooded Man drew close to Wendy, observing her face more closely. He brushed her cheek with a pale and slender hand that was cold to the touch and drew away. "Very good," he hissed in a voice reminiscent of death itself. "Take her to a cell and apply a magic resistant spell to her. We must wait for the full moon before we can rejoice with our Lord." With a sweep of his cloak, the Hooded Man went to his chamber, where he poured over an ancient tome of dark magic.
