Awakening
Hello everyone, sorry I didn't get this….
Insania slides onto the screen, blocking the rest of the chapter and smirking at the readers.
"I'm not sorry for the interruption, and I interrupt this chapter for a very special announcement." The Immortal smirked and Infinitas appeared besides her.
"We have currently high jacked Cp's story, as we believe that you all deserve a few good laughs." Infinitas informed everyone as she waved her hand and a comfy red armchair appeared, and she sat down, a knowing smile dancing on her lips.
"Many, many laughs," Insania agrees as she spun around, her two colored eyes glittering with glee.
"Hope you enjoy the show!" Infinitas smirked before everything fades to black.
Third POV
Insania sighs as she stares at the screen before her in Cor. There were so many things that she wanted to do…but E're didn't remember yet, so what was the point?
She hadn't exactly lied to Mortem when she had said that she was working for Mother when she had stolen E're's Soul…but she was also working for E're.
She just hasn't gotten to that memory yet.
Insania let out a sad sigh, remembering the role she had played when Fati broke E're's mind. It wouldn't have been that easy without her help. Thankfully, none of her Siblings had noticed. They wouldn't have taken that well.
They wouldn't have understood that it was for the best. Well, Infinitas might've, but her Sight was being blocked recently, so it was a small chance.
Insania shook her head as she narrowed her eyes at the Mortal she was watching. The woman had been avoiding the Tower ever since the humans Fury and Pepper had let her go. All of the others were asleep, and E're had just started to sort out her mind.
Insania knew that it wasn't going to be as simple to put her mind back together as Mortem and E're seemed to believe. She knew from experience, it wasn't something that could just be fixed with sorted memories.
But that was something that she was going to have to learn on her own.
Insania suddenly smirked; as she felt a few of her Siblings enter her home. She would dwell on her plans later. Right now, she had some retribution to plan.
"You summoned us here, Chaos?" A deep baritone voice asked from her door and she turned to see the two Immortals she had invited here, and two that she had not.
The Immortal who had spoken was tall, with broad shoulders and chocolate brown hair that hung around his face like a curtain. His eyes were a dark, almost black, red and he was wearing shredded red trousers and a dark grey tunic. A large curved sword was strapped to his back, and he had a necklace of various creature teeth hanging around his neck. His shadow seemed to twist around him and if he had been on earth, his aura would be frightening every living creature away. But that was to be expected, he was the Immortal of Fear after all.
There were two female Immortals standing next to him. The one on his left was small blonde haired girl who had bright pink eyes and a cherub like face. She was wearing a simple, light purple sun dress covered in dark purple flowers. Her feet were bare, though an anklet of roses was wrapped around one leg. She was smiling brightly as the Immortal of Joy always did; even if there was a touch of hesitance at seeing the younger Immortal before her.
The other girl was scowling, but that was nothing new. She had long black hair that appeared to turn green in different lights pulled into a high pony tail, held up by two small throwing knives. Her eyes were a dark shade of maroon, though they would turn into a light cream color if she relaxed. Her lips were painted red, and eyes heavily lines with mascara. The Immortal was wearing nothing but a blood red corset, tight black trousers, and high heeled boots; though there were numerous weapons strapped all over her body. Vengeance and all, what else was there to say?
The second boy was standing a few feet away from the others, a soft look on his face that revealed none of his thoughts. His hair was light blue, and his eyes dark green. He was wearing a simple white t-shirt with the words Family is everything, so don't piss me off written in bold letters, jeans, and red tennis shoes. His eyes were a light blue-purple, different than Fati's, and he seemed to be the only one on edge around Insania. But he was accepting of all Immortals, Family being his Realm.
Insania didn't react, leaving everyone wondering if she had known that there would be two more people at her door than she had invited.
"Noli, Laetitia, Vindicta, Genus, welcome." Insania gave them all a tilted grin, though only Genus and Laetitia returned it, being Joy and Family after all.
"Why did you call us here?" Vindicta asked dully, though you could see a small bit of fire in her eye. She could sense the touch of her Realm in the room, and wondered just who Chaos had it out for.
She surely wouldn't be sending Vindicta out after Fati…was she?
Insania didn't answer her question right away, though she did give them all another slightly crazed smile.
Turning back to her screen she finally spoke.
"Your realms are very different, and you might not always agree…" Insania started and Noli rolled his eyes. That was an understatement. "But I have called you here for something that you all have in common."
Everyone raised an eyebrow as Insania continued. "Aequivalere."
At this, the other four Immortals all stiffened. While most of Cor had not met the Youngest, all four of them had, and considered her a friend even if they weren't as close with her as Insania, Vitam, or Infinitas was.
"Noli," Insania suddenly turned around and gave the Immortal of Fear a piercing stare, "You assisted Mortem not too long ago, when a few Mortals over stepped their bonds on E're, did you not?"
A small but dark grin stretched across the Immortal's face as he nodded and replied, "That I did. I have assisted Mortem many times when it comes to dealing with Mortals who have wronged our little Sister."
Insania smirked, as Vindicta spoke up, "Mortem has fallen into my Realms a few times in regards to Aequivalere, yes, and if it is retribution you seek on her behalf, Noli and I are more than willing to assist…by why are Laetitia and Genus here?" She sneered as she said their names, they rarely got along. "Surely their Realms do not have a claim?"
Genus surprised everyone, besides Insania, by giving Vindicta a glare. "You should know, Sister that I approve of no one who messes with our Family."
Noli and Insania was the only two who didn't shiver at the tone of his voice, and Vindicta slowly nodded. She did know this.
"And while I detest violence," Laetitia spoke up for the first time, "Aequivalere has finally found happiness, and I don't approve of those who have tried to take it away from her."
The four visiting Immortals all relaxed slightly as they realized that Insania had been right, they were all united under a single cause at the moment.
"But surely you aren't asking us to go after Fati?" Vindicta spoke up, "Because while I'd love to put a blade between her eyes, the little bitch, her Realm stretches too far."
"Besides, she still is family," Genus pointed out, causing Vindicta and Noli to glare at him.
"Family or not, she has broken Father's Laws." Noli stated coldly, "and must suffer the consequences."
Genus flushed, but Insania stepped in before an argument could break out.
"Peace, we are not here to discus Fati," Insania giggled just a bit as she continued to stare at her screen.
"No, I've called you here to assist me with another issue." All four Immortals looked interested in the younger's words.
Turning her screen so that the others could see it, she smirked.
"I believe that this Mortal needs to learn why it is a bad, bad idea to mess with E're." She giggled darkly as the screen flashed through the Mortal's various offences before settling on real time.
A dark smirk stretched across Noli's face as Vendicta started to play with one of her daggers. Laetitia's grin had faded, and Genus looked furious.
"She will learn why no one messes with the Immortalis Family." Genus growled and Insania giggled again.
In another dimension, on that world's Earth, a certain red head spy suddenly shivered in her sleep.
If only she really knew what was coming.
Romanoff's Mind
Night after Invasion
Romanoff was very confused as she walked through the dark, empty halls of the Helicarrier. There was no one there, not even a soul. The machinery wasn't humming like usual, and there was no faint vibration from the engines holding them aloft.
Nothing but silence reached her ears; she couldn't even hear her own breathing or the soft tapping of her footsteps. She wasn't sure why, but fear was gripping her heart and it seemed like every step she took the fear increased.
Something was wrong with the world around her, but she couldn't exactly tell what it was. It was like the walls, floor and ceiling was warping out of the corners of her vision, but every time she glanced over, they would be completely normal.
Lights were flickering and the hallway she was traveling through seemed to go on forever. There were no doors or other corridors. There was just the never ending path before her.
She was confused, and frightened. She was confused as to why she was frightened. There was nothing here to be scared of, so why was she?
"Naaataasshhaaa…."
She jumped at the echoing sound of her name, and spun around, her hand going towards her hip for her weapon, only to find that her fire arm wasn't there.
Patting herself down, Romanoff discovered that she didn't have a weapon on her person, nor anything that she could use as a weapon, such as the paper clip she always kept in the hem of her sleeve, and the pen in her boot.
She was completely unarmed.
"What is this!?" Romanoff yelled just as the hallway morphed into a scene from her childhood; and Romanoff was forced to watch all of the horrors of her past play out before her.
"Why won't I wake up?!" She screamed as she tried to not look at the scenes playing out around her.
Suddenly, she wasn't just scared, she was terrified. Terrified by her own mind.
"You shouldn't have done it Natasha…" Another voice whispered, and she spun around her fist flying forward, only for her to hit air. There was nothing there, there never had been.
Suddenly, the scenes from her own past faded and she found herself tied to a chair in a strange, rainbow room were the walls, floor, and ceiling were all twisting and defying logic.
The colors would explode from the wall at random times, taking the shape of clowns, killers, monsters, and other creatures she couldn't even describe.
"Really shouldn't have, really, really should've had…" All of them were taunting her, in their high, creepy voices. But the voices never ended, not even the creatures faded in and out of existence.
I love you, you love me…
Romanoff winced as the music started playing, before another two songs started up on top of it.
It's a small world after all…
This is the song that never ends…
I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves…
Romanoff closed her eyes and tried to block out the noises, but the songs echoed through her very mind, looping endlessly.
She tried to force herself to awake, as there was no way this was anything but a twisted dream, but nothing worked. This all felt real, a bit too real. It was like her own mind was rebelling agsint her, forcing her to go through this torture.
We're a happy family…
It's a small world after all…
It just goes on and on my friend…
Everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves…
"People never learn," A sharp feminine voice sighed as five shadows appeared in the corner of the room.
"We protect our own." A darker voice continued, one that cause images of horror to flood her mind and her whole body to quiver in fear as her blood turned to ice.
"And no one messes with our family." A third voice, also male, said softly but dangerously.
Romanoff's eyes widened as she saw the crazy looking girl from the day before walk out of the shadows, holding a large rubber chicken and what looked like a Barney cosplay suit.
What the bloody hell was wrong with her mind!?
"I'm going to be very happy watching you suffer," That was the voice that caused shivers to go up her spine; why the hell did that kid sound so happy!?
Helicarrier,
Day after Invasion.
Romanoff twitched again as she walked through the Helicarrier. No, it wasn't almost noon and no she hadn't just been released from the mental torture. She didn't understand anything any more, and it was taking all of her stubbornness to keep herself from believing that she was going crazy.
She had only been up two hours, something she had denied to Fury when confronted, and she was started to wonder if she was still, in fact, dreaming.
Every time she turned to corner she would see a large rubber chicken stalking her, but whenever she tried to turn around and see it, the object would vanish. Romanoff could swear that she was still dreaming.
Why else did she hear one of the four worst songs in the world whenever someone spoke to her, or why shadows would take the shapes of Barney with evil, red eyes and vengeful smiles? How else could she explain the fact that she was slowly going utterly insane?
"No," She told herself sternly, trying not to look at the monstrous rubber chicken that was once again following her. "I'm perfectly sane."
Sadly, a random agent walked past her just at that moment, and gave her a very strange look before continuing on.
Romanoff had to try not to shoo something. She wasn't crazy!
Watching the spy continue on through the day invisible, the five Immortals crackled evilly.
Romanoff had fled to the Tower, hoping that being around the other Avengers would keep the hallucinations at bay, and that Barton would calm her panicking mind.
But it only made it worse.
The moment she stepped into the Tower, her skin had caught flame; feeling like someone had turned her blood into itching powder, and was also rubbing a cheese grater up and down her whole body.
But she continued on, ignoring the awful sensations. She had been tortured and trained to ignore pain, she could ignore this.
By the time that she reached the kitchen where everyone else was, she wasn't so sure about that.
Something had to be wrong with her eyes, because colors had swapped and everything was looking 2D. It was like she was trippin' on the worse hallucinogenic the world had to offer times twenty, it made no sense, and she wondered whether it would be smoke or blood bursting forth from her ears when her mind finally did crash.
She had tried to eat lunch with the others, but as soon as she had sat down at the table, she got the worst feeling in her lower abdomen, it was similar to gas and cramps, but a trillion times worse because the pain was lower and seemed to crawl, squirm and slither around in her.
She couldn't handle it any more, especially not when her stomach started burning, and she could smell nothing but sulfur.
She had slammed her bowl into the sink and then fled the Tower as fast as she could after finding a bathroom.
God, what was wrong with her?
The rest of the day just continued to get worse, and she had ended up hiding in a storage closet on the Helicarrier; trying to ignore the songs that were once again playing through her mind, and the numerous glittering, dancing creatures circling her.
"This is all just a very, very bad dream." She whispered to herself over and over again, as the creatures swarmed her, rocking slowly back and forth.
Too bad she couldn't convince herself that.
That evening, when Nick Fury, still confused from Penny's visit, stopped in the storage closet to find Lynx's old things, he paused, frozen in the door. Romanoff was curled up in a ball, her hair bright green, her skin scaly, eyes foggy, and muttering the worst song under her breath.
He had opened his mouth to say something to her, wondering what on earth had happened to his agent, when a large rubber chicken had appeared over her, and squeaked angrily at him.
Blinking furiously with his one good eye, Fury had fled; not sure if what he had just seen was real.
He was going to find a rather strong nightcap, try to work through the last twenty four hours, and sleep.
He would worry about Romanoff in the morning.
In Cor, the five Immortals high-fived each other, still temporally united as they continued to mess with Romanoff's mind and reality.
Insania giggled, before sending a silent thank you to her Sister. Today had been just too much fun!
Oh, and she really did need to thank Mortem for the 'crawled up her ass and died' idea.
Elsewhere in Cor, Mortem and Infinitas tried to stop chuckling. Mortem could feel his Bonded's frustration, and had chuckled at her small prank…but this was priceless.
"You were right," Mortem admitted as he tried to calm himself. "This was so much better than torturing herself."
"Indeed," Infinitas agreed with a chuckle. "They can be quiet creative if necessary."
Mortem nodded, and watched as the five Immortals jumped back into Romanoff's dreams.
"Though, this doesn't mean I still won't deal with her." He informed the Elder Immortal.
Infinitas chuckled, she expected nothing less.
For a moment, she almost felt bad for the moment. But then the moment past and she smiled knowingly.
Insania had another three hours of free rein, and boy was she going to take advantage of that.
The screen goes black and then Noli appears causing all of the readers to jump back.
"Hope you enjoyed it." He crackles as Insania bows.
"Happy Halloween."
Yes, this is late, but whatever. Hope you enjoyed it, it was sooo much fun to write!
Happy Halloween, Samhain, All Hallows Eve, All Saints Day, Dia de Los Muertos, or whatever holiday you celebrate that is this weekend!
