Chapter 17

Jack...

Jack!

Jack, help me! Please!

Gasping in shock, Jack suddenly opened his eyes as he woke up on a peaceful snowy white mountain. He weakly pushed himself off the snow before looking around. He gaped in surrrise as the ice castle that Elsa once built suddenly vanished into thin air. He twitched furiously in bewilderment; what in the world happened? He looked around to see no one around except himself.

"Remember that feeling alone, Jack," a voice mockingly asked.

Out of sudden reflex, Jack jumped up and called his staff to him to throw a huge ice bolt. The guardian of fun however stopped midway when he saw a scrawny old man who he recognized clearly. He recognized the man as someone who was at Elsa's coronation.

"Duke of Weselton? What are you doing here," Jack asked, staring in disbelief. "You're going to freeze out here!"

However, the scrawny duke simply just smiled.."No Jack, it's you who's going to freeze out here..."

The moment the duke's eyes changed colour, Jack gawked in surprise as the skin fell away to reveal Pitch. He couldn't believe that Pitch managed to even take his form nor did he expect him to have the duke's skin! It made no sense to him whatsoever! He glanced at the skin before it turned into black dust.

"You," Jack growled and got ready to blast Pitch.

The guardian of Fear however raised his hands up. "Now don't be hasty, Jack. There are a few things you need to know..."

"What's there to know?! Elsa wouldn't have had powers if you didn't mess her up," Jack roared. "She would be a normal girl...!"

"I did not give her powers, Jack."

"You then proceeded to scare the living daylights out of," Jack rambled on until he processed what Pitch just said. "Wait, what?"

Pitch smirked with a sarcastic roll of his eyes. "I did not give her the powers, you fool. Tinkered with them yes, gave them to her - no."

Jack glared with a dark hiss. "It still doesn't change the fact that you messed with her."

Pitch shrugged. "Even villains get bored, Jack. What do you want me to do? Sit and do crochet all day?"

"That would have been preferred."

"Oh please, you're disgusting," Pitch snorted before looking over to Arendelle. "Although, there's something to fear more than me."

Jack raised an eyebrow. "What?"

Pitch let out a hollow chuckle. "Do you believe in love at first sight, Jack?"

Jack opened to respond but decided to tread carefully instead. "What are you talking about?"

Pitch snorted in annoyance. "How slow could you possibly be, Jack?"

Jack bit his lower lip anxiously before looking over Pitch's shoulder. He couldn't see Arendelle from where he stood but he couldn't help but be worried about the two girls. He remembered seeing how panicked Elsa was...

Wait a minute, he froze in fear. He looked around and then realized that the castle was not the only thing that was missing. He turned to Pitch with anger flashing in his eyes, storming towards him.

"Where is she," Jack let out a deadly hiss.

Pitch raised an eyebrow. "Who are you looking for?"

"WHERE IS SHE," Jack roared with a blind fury, lunging towards him with his glowing staff.

Without much time to react, Pitch jumped back and dodged Jack's ice bolts. The guardian of fun roared angrily and slammed his staff into the ground. He used it to propel himself into the air and kick Pitch in the face before swirling around with a quick dance. Snow followed the tip of his staff whereas Pitch staggered back only to find a huge snow dragon snarling at him.

"Well someone got creative," Pitch muttered.

Jack said nothing as he coldly sent the dragon after the guardian of fear. Pitch jumped away as it let out an icy breath to freeze him. He fell and rolled on the ground to recover his stance and watched Jack's movement. He could see the rage and hatred in his eyes but he also saw...

No fear.

The mere thought terrified Pitch. One could not be angry and not be afraid at the same time. But he saw the raw anger and berserker rage in Jack's eyes; nobody could thrive on pure anger. Whoever is the Guardian of Anger and Gladiator Matches would have had a heyday, Pitch snorted in annoyance.

"Where is she," Jack coldly hissed every word with a satanic stare. "Tell me now, Guardian!"

Guardian. It was rare that Pitch was called that.

Pitch exhaled sharply. He looked at Jack and the terrain around him; he was completely at a disadvantage. The winds howled and the skies became significantly darker. Did the Man of the Moon know that Jack had this power? He wasn't sure but, if he did know - Pitch didn't want to wait until he could contort his meaning of "fun" into something else.

"Well, you've had your fun," Jack darkly said. "Time to show you my version of fun."

Pitch saw Jack's hair slowly turn black and his eyes turn gold. Jack's grin no longer became the mischievous one he knew but some sort of dare he say it - demonic one instead. Jack's oce slowly turned into a dark blue colour with black sand decorating it.

"You once showed me how beautiful ice and dark look like," Jack sneered. "Let me show you how painful it is!"

Pitch staggered back in fear; when did Jack ever get affected by his magic?! He never even gave it to him! He began pondering on several ways that could possibly happen. Intense emotion, intense fear, intense love - he scoffed. Intense feelings couldn't amount to the nightmare happening in front of him. However, he froze when he saw a black snowflake on Jack's chest.

It is possible, his conscience mocked him.

Seeing that he couldn't contend with Jack by himself, he quickly jumped back before running past Jack. He summoned black sand to propel him forward while Jack flew right after him, completely hot on his heels. A small smirk curved up his lips as he continued to fly towards Arendelle.

"Well, this will get ugly," he thought to himself with glee.

Meanwhile, Anna was brought to Hans in front of the fireplace. She sat down while trying to keep herself warm while Hans stood in front of her, staring in horror at her hair turning white along with her fingers. She shivered violently while trying to put her hands in front of the fire while Hans slowly placed his hands on hers.

"Anna, let me get this straight," Hans shook his head and asked. "Elsa froze your heart?"

She nodded weakly.

"And only an act of true love can save you," Hans continued.

She nodded and shivered violently.

He stared at the princess for one moment, remembering the time they sang together. He remembered how she was such a chatter box when he first met her as well. He slowly bent down and cupped her chin, slowly closing in to kiss her. Before their lips touched, he recalled the time he had spoken with Duke Weselton and the rest of the councilmen.

Arendelle now looks to you, milord.

Those words echoed in his mind and he looked back at the time his 12 brothers had begun fighting for the throne. Most of the time, he had been ignored and the Duke did mention that if he had gained power now, Arendelle and its assets would be his! Far better and as long as he kept the facade that Anna had married him, no problem! He then looked at Anna who was waiting for him to kiss her and then, looked at himself at the goblet. Was he really the sort of man to abandon a helpless woman especially because of what she offered?

"Sweet, sweet, Anna," Hans whispered cruelly. "You poor desperate creature."

Anna's eyes snapped open with disbelief as she whispered. "What...?"

Hans chuckled. "I was hoping to marry Elsa but you dropped yourself into my lap," - he snapped his fingers. "Just like that."

Anna began to break down in tears. "N-no..."

"Do you even know what love is? It only exists for a short time," he chuckled sombrely while moving away from her to get a pitcher of water to pour it on the fire. "Elsa was my ticket to the throne. Considering I have 12 brothers, what were my chances to get the throne?"

As the fire died, Anna could feel her whole body shivering. She looked up at Hans before trying to crawl to the fire to light it up again. She couldn't believe that she was seeing that smirk on his face. She loved him! Why didn't he love her back?

Or the question was - did she even know what love was like?

She grew alone without Elsa. She may have physically existed but she couldn't remember the time that the girl had ever hugged her. They were really close long ago but that accident terrified her. Judging from the expression she saw on Jack's face when they heard about how her memories were manipulated, she must have terrified Elsa so much!

"Why? Why would you do this," Anna trembled from the cold.

Hans shrugged nonchalantly. "Simple. My 12 brothers are already clambering for the throne. Despite me being the second son of his legitimate wife, that doesn't make ot any easier now does it?"

Anna remained quiet and shook her head. "Y-you wanted to..."

"Marry you? This is why princesses are so easy," he sniggered mockingly. "Always looking for someone to "save" them. But what then? What then if they just want you for what you have? All I have to do now is to leave you to freeze and get rid of Elsa. After all, you left Arendelle in my care."

Anna, feeling betrayed, glared and hissed. "You won't get away with this, Hans."

Seeing the brunette woman on the ground, Hans could only chuckle. The formerly spunky girl now had hair as white as snow with her fingers freezing. She trembled and shuddered from the cold as he slowly sauntered past her with an evil smirk.

"Oh Anna, I already have," he said deviously.

With this, he shut the door and locked it behind him.
