Awakening
Odin get's some more of E're's tongue lashing today. *Grin*
Penny's POV
When we reappeared we were no longer on Asgard, in fact we were back on Earth. On a tiny little island that barely anyone knew of because the Stark's owned it, but we've never used it. It was barely two miles long, oval shaped, and about a mile in length at the middle.
Not only was I beyond pissed at Odin for what he had done to Loki, but my Duties were burning as well. I had told Odin not to treat Loki differently, thousands of times when I had been on Asgard.
But he was always too freaking stubborn to listen to me! I had warned him, the moment he picked Loki up as a babe on the frozen wastelands of Jotunheim, that he was to treat the boy right.
I gazed upon my old friend with weary eyes, as he slowly picked up the abandoned babe. My Duties soothed my worried Soul, allowing me to know that this moment was meant to be.
But even so, I could feel the uncertainty of the future; Balance teetering on the edge of a knife...all because of that babe.
"It would be wise to contemplate your next actions thoroughly, and carefully." I said slowly as I walked up behind the Asgardian King. "For if you take this babe in, if you wish it to be your own...you must be willing, you must vow, to treat the boy as if he was your own."
I turned my gaze from the small blue child, whose appearance was quickly changing, to Odin's face.
"He shall grow alongside Thor," Odin suddenly decreed, his resolution obvious. "He shall be a prince of Asgard."
I felt my Realm shift. The edge was still there, and I knew now that it always would be.
"Then listen to my words," I advised, my voice echoing in the snowy temple. "Raise him as you would Thor, as his equal, his brother. Nothing more, and nothing less…"
I paused, my Soul twisting as my Realm shifted. My lips twitched as I glanced down at the boy. "For if you do not...the young one will bring much Darkness upon Asgard." I warned, glancing back up at the man.
He bobbed his head, turning on his foot and staring at me with his now one eyed gaze.
"I shall heed your warning Aequivalere."
I stepped to the side, allowing the King to pass back through the temple and into the cold lands beyond.
"I hope you do, Borson." I sighed as my Duties twisted again. "For Asgard's sake."
Coming out of the memory, I glared down at Odin who was laying in the sand.
That had only been the first time I had spoken to the man about the treatment of his son! I had tried my best during my time on Asgard to make Loki feel accepted, wanted, special; to help him see that he was his own person.
My lessons might've stayed with Loki since my passing, but my Duties were furious at both me and Odin.
I may not have the gift of Sight, but I can tell when my Realm is threatened.
If Odin had locked Loki away for crimes he did not willingly commit...dark thoughts would've festered, grown, questioned everything until they consumed him. It would've turned Loki into the very being I had tried for centuries to prevent.
And that would've disturbed the Balance.
"I always knew that you were a fool," I said slowly, quietly, as I started to circle Odin, who was still lying in the sand. "But I never thought you an idiot."
Odin winced, and my eyes narrowed. Ah, so he was listening.
"Do you know how many years I spent with your son? Do you have any idea how many centuries I spent undoing the damage you swore you would NEVER DO! The moment you took Loki into your life I warned you, I told you to treat him well, to treat him right! I said the same words to you not a day later! How many times did I repeat myself!?" I demanded as I crossed my arms over my chest, allowing my power to swirl around me like a wind.
"How many times did I tell you that you were writing your own doom!?" My voice was nothing but a choked snarl, and I had to stop myself from electrocuting him. "How many times!? The last time we spoke before I died I told you! I warned you one last time! Was not even my death enough for you to see sense?!"
Odin opened his mouth to speak, before closing it again. I could see the conflict in his eyes, and wanted to roll my own.
"Loki has not been responsible for his actions over the past few months." I stated coldly, as Odin pushed himself up onto his elbows. "Fati has been using him as a pawn, a mindless pawn. One she used to get to me."
My heart froze for just a moment, but I pushed the invading emotion away. Now was not time to dwell on Fati's manipulations.
Odin opened his mouth, but I cut him off again.
"I don't care whether you believe me or not. I have spoken the truth and you desperately need to listen to me. It's time you get it through your head that Loki is your son, and you should be very happy that you haven't turned him against you!"
Odin looked down at the ground, and I didn't mention that it was my influence in his childhood that kept Loki from hating the Allfather. Odin could survive without that knowledge.
"A king is supposed to be wise, protective, and forgiving. It seems that theories, fear, and prejudices have blinded you Borson." I said chillingly, my voice almost dripping with ice. I saw Odin flinched, but didn't let my old friend get up.
"You are on Midgard," I said as I turned away from the fallen king and towards the seashore on our right. "This island is almost lost knowledge. No one shall find you here, and I shall know if you attempt to leave."
To be honest, I could probably bind his powers for a week or two, but that would take a lot more energy and effort than I was willing to use at the moment.
A few weeks in isolation and reflexion would probably do the Asgardian some good.
"You can't just leave me here!" Odin protested, slowly pushing himself up. "I am needed upon Asgard."
I snorted, "Frigga is more than able to rule in your absence, Odin."
It was very true, Frigga was someone you never wanted to cross, and all of Asgard knew it.
"She will be able to keep the peace." I glanced back at him, and noticed how tired he looked. "Besides, she will have Loki and Thor to assist her."
Odin seemed to deflate even more at that, but I didn't comment. Odin had been blinded for too long now, I wasn't going to allow it to go any farther.
Not when my Duties were telling me that Odin's wisdom and knowledge would be needed not too far into the future.
"I shall return in a fortnight," I told the king as I let my sparks dance across my skin. "You shall find a small home beyond those hills. Use this time to reflect, Odin, and perhaps you can still make amends."
Odin said not a word, and I let my powers flare.
I vanished in a swirl of electrical power.
I needed to sort out everything on Asgard, and then get home. Dad was probably worrying his head off at this point.
I just hoped he hadn't done anything stupid.
Hey all, would've gotten this up yesterday, but I had internet issues.
Hope you liked it
