Me: I don't own Frozen or ROTG!
Chapter 22
Dark Elsa drummed her fingers on her arm rest on her icy throne, looking at the dark, empty room before her. She sighed to herself; why did Elsa want to be alone? It was so boring! She didn't have anything to do! Not when everything was frozen into solid ice! The people had fled the towns, her icy minions stalked the streets – everything was now exactly as planned. An icy kingdom where Elsa could be anyone she wanted without hurting anybody. The dark haired queen threw her hands in the air in exasperation and let out an annoyed snort before kicking herself off the throne.
"Ugh, it's so boring here," she whined and kicked an imaginary dust bunny on the ground. "It's no fun being alone without anyone to scare."
This wasn't part of the plan!
Upon hearing the original Elsa's voice, she sneered. "Why? Didn't you want to be free? Didn't you want to be alone where you could be anyone you wanted?"
While it appeared Dark Elsa spoke to nobody, the room suddenly dimmed and there stood the original Elsa. She could see a frown on the blonde Elsa's face whereas Dark Elsa shrugged nonchalantly. The Ice Queen couldn't understand what her original personality wanted. Was it to be alone or was it to be with people? She fought the urge to yank out her short dark hair in exasperation and slumped over with an annoyed stare. Elsa however continued to glare at Dark Elsa while tapping her foot on the ground.
"What? Isn't this what you wanted," Dark Elsa gestured to the dark throne room. "You said you wanted a kingdom of isolation. Here you have it!"
Elsa shook her head. "You didn't have to kill those people."
"It's kill or be killed, chickie."
"That doesn't mean we have to be the first one to start it."
Dark Elsa groaned and waved her hand dismissively at Elsa, turning away and flouncing back to the throne. "Ugh, you're so complicated. You don't even know what you want."
Elsa fumed. "I do know what I want! Where's Jack!?"
Dark Elsa stopped in her steps before turning towards Elsa with a possessive glint in her eye. The original Elsa couldn't believe what she was seeing. The dark ice queen stalked towards her before wrapping her freezing fingers around Elsa's throat. The blonde Elsa gasped and staggered back before trying to peel off the Dark Elsa's fingers. What was that dark glint in her eyes? Elsa looked closely and noticed Dark Elsa gnashing her teeth, tightening her grip on her throat. Elsa coughed and gasped for air as she gripped Dark Elsa's wrist, trying to get her to let go.
"Let... go," Elsa coughed.
Dark Elsa could feel her blood boiling. How dare she take Jack! Jack was her knight! He was her champion! Nobody else could have him. She let out a feral growl from her throat before pushing Elsa back before finally shoving her against the wall. The armor next to Elsa clattered loudly onto the ground into a heap of rusted metal as the room around her began to freeze. Glacial stalactites began to sprout from the ceiling and frost began to coat the wall.
"Jack is mine," Dark Elsa seethed darkly. "Nobody would ever love you! Nobody! You're just a scared little girl!"
Elsa bit her lower lip; to some extent, she knew that the darker version of herself was right. She had locked herself away in a room to prevent herself from hurting Anna. She had remembered when her parents had tried to touch her and help her, she had shoved them away. She had sealed herself away, hoping that her powers would hurt nobody else. She remembered the sad expressions on her parents' faces when she had pulled her hand away from them. She looked at her hands that were once covered with gloves, remembering her mantra.
Conceal, don't feel…
But then, what did that do in the end for her?
She remembered during her coronation how she trembled with fear coursing through her veins. She sweated buckets as she looked upon the portrait of her father, holding both the sceptre and the vial that symbolized Arendelle's royalty. Did her father feel any fear as he shouldered the responsibility of handling Arendelle's welfare and affairs? That was one question she wished she could ask him. But every time she tried to imagine her father's face, all she remembered was his saddened expression when she had shut herself away from them. How could she not? Her powers manifested in any way possible which also included freezing her entire room! How could she not be afraid of what she was capable of?
But Jack, Jack was a different story.
He showed her what it was like to not be afraid. He showed her how beautiful her powers could be. Ever since they were small, it was something that Jack had taught her. Instead of fearing her powers, he taught her how to have a little fun instead. Suddenly, a bolt of realization hit Elsa; her powers were perfectly fine when she had fun with them and she could do anything she wanted with them. She looked at her hands that no longer hid themselves under gloves but instead was able to feel the icy coldness of Dark Elsa's skin. She remembered the huge castle she had built on the mountain and how she easily fashioned it out of the one in Arendelle. She remembered how she danced around in the snow while Jack flew around in the sky to create their icy domain!
Having fun… that was the answer the whole time!
She looked at her hands and instead of trying to pry off Dark Elsa's hands, she pressed her back against the wall to kick Dark Elsa away from her. Shocked by the sudden impact, Dark Elsa forcibly let go and fell to the ground. Elsa, gasping and heaving for air, pointed her hands at Dark Elsa emitting a frosty aura. Dark Elsa on the other hand chuckled and slowly turned her head towards Arendelle's queen before standing up. She cracked her neck and grinned darkly at Elsa. Her body seemed to swoon and sway as she got into a battle position to freeze Elsa.
"Oh Elsa, you're nothing more than a queen," she cooed with a sneer. "You don't have a knight to defend you!"
"I don't need him to be physically here to help me, Dark Elsa," Elsa hissed and froze the air around her to create icicle shards. "Because he was the one who taught me everything I know about my powers! He is with me – no matter what happens!"

"So lemme get this straight, mate," Bunnymund began scratching behind his ears with his nose twitching, trying to understand the situation. "You're tellin' me that your sister went cuckoo when you went over to see her in the mountains when she wanted to be alone?"
Anna nodded numbly.
At this, Bunnymund raised an eyebrow. "Mate, you're a bigger dimwit than Jack was when he first became a guardian."
Kristoff sighed in exasperation. "Finally! Someone agrees with me!"
"Some people isolate themselves on purpose so they can have space ta find themselves," Bunnymund pointed out. "Jack was like that too. Except he preferred picking on people and playing tricks on them."
Anna giggled softly while running with the Easter Bunny. "Yeap, that sounds like Jack alright."
Kristoff glanced around the castle and asked. "Shouldn't we go find Jack?"
"Jack can handle the queen himself," Bunnymund explained before dropping down to run on fours. "At the moment, he's the one best equipped for it, mate."
Suddenly, the ground split open and stalagmites shot out of the ground. Elementals began to fill the hallways and surrounded the three of them. Bunnymund pulled out his boomerangs and Kristoff had his ice picks. Anna stepped back before an elemental suddenly grabbed her from behind. She yelped but not before throwing a right jab into its fist and cracking the ice, whimpering at how cold the ice was against her knuckles. She panted and heaved when she suddenly staggered back. She could feel the ice creeping all over her body but she shook it off. She had to save Elsa!
You always tried to protect me, Elsa.
That was the one thing she couldn't believe she only realized now. Her chest tightened at the thought of Elsa pushing her away but when she saw how much power Elsa was packing, she could then see why. The queen that had stepped into the living room that time – she shook her head. No! Elsa would never do that to her! It was like what the love experts told her…
"People make bad choices when they're mad or scared or stressed," Anna bit her lower lip with a bitter smile, tears forming at her eyes. "I should have known…"
Kristoff could see Anna standing with her back hunched, as if trying to contain something. He swung his ice pick with a grunt, cleaving the head of the ice elemental's head clean off. After the elemental shattered into a thousand pieces, he quickly ran to Anna who stood in silence and rubbed her arm. He could see the sadness flickering in her eyes; who wouldn't be when one's sister had been pushing them away and lying to them all this time? It didn't help that Hans didn't love her either and just wanted to use her to get to the throne.
"Anna, I know you're a bit down but," Kristoff bit his lower lip, trying to figure out what to say. "But we have to keep moving. Once your sister finds out…"
"That thing that froze me wasn't my sister," Anna cut him off and looked up with determination, shivering slightly from the cold. "I-I don't care. I-I want to help… Elsa…"
Bunnymund threw his boomerangs again, cracking the ice elementals. "Look kid, as much as your bravery and devotion to your sister is admirable, there's something known as a tactical retreat."
Olaf nodded. "Yeah Anna, we can't keep fighting. I don't know how long you'll stay thawed out."
Anna shook her head and turned to Olaf with a determined expression. "Then we'll just have to make the most of it! Olaf, Kristoff – we need to find that other ice queen now!"
Bunnymund groaned. "You're not gonna change yer mind are ya, mate?"
Kristoff shook his head at the Easter Bunny. "She's one hard person to convince."
"Strong-willed huh? I'm lookin' fer a bit of excitement meself," Bunnymund grinned before tapping the ground twice and showing them a hole. "Get in."
Anna stared in disbelief at the hole, gawking at Bunnymund in aghast. "Where's this going to take us?"
Bunnymund groaned and slapped his forehead, grabbing Olaf, Anna and Kristoff. "Where else, stupid? You wanna save your sister right?"
Anna numbly nodded.
"Well then," Bunnymund grinned and prepared to jump. "Hang on to yer hats! It's gonna be a long ride!"

Jack on the other hand flew through the hallways. Looking at how Arendelle's castle had turned into an ice castle, he couldn't help but wonder if this is how Elsa's heart within looked like. He shook his head; he couldn't believe that she was capable of being cold. This possibly couldn't be it, Jack argued with himself. The Elsa he knew was full of warmth and smiles even when her powers were the complete opposite of that. Ice didn't always have to mean freezing death and cold. It brought in the warm things in life; cuddling, hot chocolate, sledding and, other things. Also, it brought fun things – the snowball fights included.
"Whatever it is," Jack looked around, trying to find the door way to wherever Elsa may be. "I have to find her. There's gotta be a way to solve this…!"
As he flew through the lobby, it was then he felt something pulling at him. He stopped and turned to see the doors leading into the ballroom. It was the place that held so many memories. He remembered the first time he taught Elsa how to use her powers. He remembered watching Elsa and Anna play with the snow that Elsa created. She had made a winter wonderland and she didn't even have anyone to teach her! She just had it within herself to know how to use it. He frowned however when he remembered how the governess had labelled Elsa as a "monster" and as a "sorceress"!
"Being a sorceress is not bad," he frowned. "Look at Hermoine Granger – also known as one of the brightest witches of her age."
Being a spirit had its quirks. Like he could go through a bookstore and read all the books he wanted. It was something he had never confided in Bunny and the others; that he was an avid Harry Potter fan. He found himself attracted to joining Slytherin even if the kids had parents who had a couple of bolts missing. But enough of that, Jack shook his head as he hovered down to the ground before walking to the doors. He could feel himself being drawn to it; there was something there. Something cold but warm at the same time. He could only pray that it wasn't the dragon.
"Last time I checked, the dragon was asleep," he chuckled ruefully before pushing the doors open.
When he pushed the doors open, all he saw was the stalactites growing on the ceiling. Ice and frost had crawled and coated the columns in the ballroom and the windows had fogged over. Jack gripped his staff tightly as he heard the door slowly creak before shutting. He felt a tingle run up his spine as he spun around to deflect an ice blast shot at him. He nearly staggered back but held his ground only to realize who his opponent was. There was the dark haired Elsa he had seen some time before. Her make-up had become darker and her dress - even more so! Her skin at least remained the same although the pupils in her eyes were shaped like snowflakes.
"Hello Jackie," she crooned and let her lips slowly curve up into a maniacal smile. "Did you miss me?"
"Elsa," Jack gasped and tried to calm her down. "Stop, you have to get a hold of yourself…!"
The moment she heard the name "Elsa", the queen's eyes widened before her eyebrows knitted together. Her hands glowed in a brighter aura of frosty blue and black with her teeth gnashing in a fit of rage. Jack swallowed hard as she screamed, throwing blasts at him. He jumped out of the way to dodge her attacks, deflecting some as he managed to get up in the air.
"I AM NOT ELSA! I AM YOUR QUEEN, JACK FROST," she snarled. "And you will bow down only to me!"
