I don't own Rise of the Guardians or Frozen!

Chapter 26

He was alone.

No matter what happened, the castle felt empty. Even with his 12 older brothers, Hans had never felt so alone in his life. They were always so busy, dealing with papers. Even as they promised to play "Battle for Helm's Deep" or "Battle of Troy", they did nothing but ignore him. He would quietly just stand at the door, waiting for them to play.

"They never want to play with me," a young prince Hans mumbled and hung his head.

He would walk to the end of the hallway sith his favourite toy, wondering if his parents would even care if he had gone. His father, the king of the Southern Isles, always sat in the throne room dealing with the village people and his mother went out every night instead of doing her queenly duties.

"I wonder if they cared if I ran away," Hans mumbled before taking a step out on the stairs, holding his favourite toy tightly. "I wonder if they would care..."

Did they ever even care to begin with...?

Those were thoughts of a dying prince as he lay bleeding on the ground.

Elsa had froze him and unleashed an icy barrage without mercy. Her ice shards tore through every end of his body, ripping open fibres he never knew he had. Blood splattered on the stone cold pavements as one of the ice elementals threw him to the ground. He could barely lift his arms as all he could manage was a groan. The world swirled around him and all he could see was Elsa's sneering face.

"Oh Hans," Elsa crooned. "My sister loved you so much," - then her expression contorted into one full of hatred. "Yet, you decide to be a jerk and abandon her."

"I," Hans groaned before his arms collapsed under his weight. "I..."

"It doesn't matter. You never wanted Anna," Elsa scoffed. "You and that scrawny old man - all you two wanted was Arendelle. After all, we are just by the sea..."

Hans managed to groan weakly. "Queen Elsa... Please..."

"Swear your allegiance to me and I might just mull over whether or not I should kill you," Elsa sneered and stalked towards Hans, grabbing his hair and making him look up at her. "Swear it!"

It was then that Hans felt fear rushing through his veins. His blood froze snd everything ran cold. He couldn't think straight as he could barely see, only managing to see the blue shades of Elsa's dress and feel the sharp nails digging into his scalp. Elsa could never have been that evil. She was a wise and kind ruler; in the party, she kept a calm and elegant demeanour. The one who was handling him now seemed more like a monster.

"I s-swear," Hans trembled as the cold air licked against his skin.

"What? Louder," Elsa demanded.

"I swear," Hans repeated a bit louder, almost a shout as he gasped for air.

Elsa shrugged and dropped him to the ground with a thud. She walked away as Hans kept his head bowed before her. He could barely push himself off the ground and only to manage a groan of agony. However, he suddenly felt a sharp pain shoot through his back. Hans screamed in agony before breathing his last, never seeing that Dark Elsa had jammed an ice blade right through his kidney.

It was then he also realized - that he would not be missed.

You wish not to be missed?

It was a dark voice that whispered in his ear when he saw a pair of golden eyes looking at him. It was also because he had answered to that voice... He gained unimaginable power...

He became the new Boogeyman.

Elsa could feel the power pulsing inside her. The powers whirled and drew the ice away from the frozen architecture. The ice elementals began to disintegrate into little snowflakes and the gray clouds swirled around and absorbed the snowflakes. Despite the icy cold licking against her skin, Elsa did not feel the cold. Jack's hands were warm and her being with him made her feel at ease and warm.

"Jack," Elsa smiled in amazement, looking at the snow swirling above her. "Look!"

Jack looked up and saw the sunbeams shining through the patches of where the gray clouds once was. He smiled when he saw Elsa beaming and the sun gently touching her hair, making it appear as if it were glowing. He then ran her fingers through her hair befote gently directing her face to look at him. The queen blinked several times and looked at Jack who had a warm smile on his face. She smiled as they began closing in, their foreheads touching. She sighed dreamily until a black sand spear shot out and split the two apart.

"Whoa," Jack staggered back.

"Ah," Elsa lost her footing and found herself falling.

Jack immediately zoomed towards her trying to catch up while Elsa began to plummet. Elsa glanced around trying to create something to grow a platform from. Suddenly, she pointed her palms to the ground before focusing all the energy she could. All she saw was water but an ice blasted from her palms and became some sort of rocket blast. She floated down and softened her landing, landing on the island she made. Jack sighed in relief and floated right next to her.

"Wow, quick thinking," Jack nodded with a smirk. "You're getting good, Your Highness."

Elsa shrugged with a smirk of her own. "I have to be."

Suddenly, the other guardians tumbled out as a black sand golem began to grow from the castle. The roofs shattered and Hans emerged from the heart of the golem, glaring at them. The other guardians had grabbed Olaf, Anna and Kristoff out of the rubble as the golem growled.

"You all will learn to fear me," he roared. "I am the Prince of Shadows! I am the Boogeyman!

Jack's eyebrows knitted together and he glared. "Yeah, you're about to be the DEAD prince of Shadows after I'm done with you! Then I'll kick Pitch down the curb after I'm done with you!"

"No," Elsa pushed past Jack and stood proudly in front of Hans, coolly staring down at him. "I will be the one to handle this. You destroyed my sister, you made me destroy my own kingdom and, you conspired to have me kicked off the throne. Is there anything I forgot to add, Prince Hans?"

Hans snarled with his eyes turning pure black. "I gave you your powers, you bitch!"

"No," Elsa shook her head and started charging up ice energy. "I was born with it. You just amplified my fear so I lost control. You also made me hurt Jack and made him turn into a monster to stop me."

The prince sneered. "So what?"

Elsa closed her eyes while trying to control the anger that was threatening to burst out of her chest. She breathed slowly while trying to feel her powers, rembering what Jack had said. She could see the snowflakes in her mind as she began mould them in her imagination.

"You gotta be creative," she repeated to herself like a mantra."You gotta be creative."

All the ice that had swirled up and gathered into the air from both she and Jack descended slowly. She waved her arms in the air and began moulding the ice into something bigger. However, she had failed to notice that her hair slowly began turning black again.

"Elsa," Jack ran towards her until a bramble of ice appeared to block him off. "Elsa!"

The winds howled and the cold became harsher. She could see her energy becoming darker and her hair changing colour. She saw her reflection and then looked at Jack's reflection. She saw how battered and torn he was; his sweater had holes and she saw the deep gashes threatening to spill out blood. She saw red tears trails staining his face and she could hear his laboured breathing. If she was the one who gave Hans the power to go bananas then...

"I should be the one to put you down," Elsa declared as her voice changed into that of the Dark Elsa. "Because I made you!"

Hans screamed and sent black sand tentacles flying towards her. "Die!"

All the ice that Elsa and Jack gathered became the queen's greatest weapon. She whirled it around like a whirling wheel around her snd shredded Hans' attack into pieces. Despite being confronted with a huge golem, she didn't feel her body trembling. She didn't feel the urge to run away and hide. No, she stood firmly and whirled around the icy winds before freezing them and throwing it like a whirling discus. The blade smashed into the golem as it staggered back. The golem growled and charged towards her as she froze the floor, causing it to slip.

"Are all the people of Arendelle safe," Elsa asked.

"They are. The only major damage thankfully was damage on property," Jack chuckled before deflecting another sand missile. "Elsa, you can't handle this alone...!"

Elsa created a huge wall to buy time before looking at Jack. She saw the concern written all over his face as she heard the thundering smashes against the frozen wall. She smiled before pulling him close and pressed her lips. Everyone gawked at the sight and Anna suddenly beamed in delight. Jack felt his knees buckle down in surprise but his heart began to slow down and he embraced her. What Elsa didn't notice was Jack's hair also turning black and his sweater becoming a darker colour.

"Mate, yer hair," Bunnymund shouted.

Elsa pulled back in surprise when she noticed his snowy white hair turning black. She yelped and began trying to rack her brains on how to turn it white again only for him to hold her wrists to stop her from flailing. She, blinking sevetal times, looked up at Jack. Didn't Jack want to kick the darkness out of both of them? Why was he stopping her?

"You can't have all the fun," Jack smirked.

Esla sighed snd shook her head with a small smile; oh, how typical of Jack! "Alright then, it's like you say..."

The frozen wall shattered and the golem roared angrily until it found jack and Elsa standing back to back with one another. Hans' formerly angry expression now contorted into a face of fear. He didn't like that smirk on Elsa's face and Jack's made his stomsch twist in pain.

"We're gonna have a little fun instead," they declared in unison.

Jack sprung off into the air as Elsa turned to her sister and the other guardians. "Go stay with the people of Arendelle. There might be some leftover minions going after them!"

Anna nodded. "Elsa?"

The queen turned to her sister. "Yes?"

Anna wanted to tell her how proud she was of her but the crashing tree cut that thought short. Anna could think of several things to say since it was somewhat the end of the world. But she looked at Jack past her sister, keeping the golem busy. She smiled at the thought; he was really her sister's champion. She instead settled for smiling at her sister and left her advice.

"Don't forget to leave the lights on."

Elsa, bewildered, nodded. "Ah... Sure..."

Without hesitation, Anna bolted off with the other guardians while Jack and Elsa duelled Hans. The enraged prince screamed as black sand tentacles shot out while Jack dove from the sky and froze all the tentacles. He swung his shepherd's staff and shattered the tentacles while Elsa began freezing the golem into the ground. The golem howled and began struggling against the ice as Elsa began pushing it back. When the sunlight hit the golem, she winced at the electrifying wail from both Hans and the golem as they desperately tried to shield themselves from the sun.

"Light," Elsa could hear something searing when she remembered Anna's words

Don't forget to leave the lights on.

It was then Elsa realized that her sister gave her the answer, turning to Jack. "Jack, we need to make mirrors!"

Jack, bewildered for a moment, wondered until he saw the golem and Hans screaming in pain from the sunlight. Of course, Pitch was the guardian of Darkness and Fear! He looked at the sun and how it began to burn Pitch. He nodded before looking at the lakes. If frozen, Jack thought with a huge smile appearing in his face.

"They make pretty decent mirror," Jack flew down and began freezing the lakes.

Elsa on the other hand began conjuring ice mirrors from where she stood. She closed her eyes and put more energy to make a more stable mirror while deflecting the other shots. However, she didn't notice that the ice had worn away some of the gutters of one of the houses. It suddenly came crashing and Jack was the first to notice

"Elsa," he shouted.

Elsa looked up before snapping her fingers. Suddenly, a hand caught the falling gutter when Jack saw a familiar face. He grinned as the gargantuan Ice Colossus grinned with its toothless and snowy mouth.

"Marshmallow," Jack beamed.

Marshmallow grinned and Hans could do nothing but gawk at the giant. Elsa smirked before folding her arms, pointing at Hans. She didn't have to say anything as Marshmallow's eyes narrowed into deadly slits and he let out a rampaging roar. He slammed into Hans and wrestled him while more black sand tried to shield Hans.

"Are you done," Elsa asked.

Jack looked up at the sun before coming up with an idea. "I think I found a way to shed a little more light on the situation."

Elsa blinked several times in disbelief. "Huh?"

"Trust me," Jack told her before soaring into the sky. "Just keep him busy!"

Elsa pouted and shook her head; how she wished she could fly! She could have just blasted Hans frozen. But no, she needed a more permanent solution. Something that would rid Arendelle of Hans forever. She saw Jack in the air before drawing a circle with his staff and freezing the inside. He gathered some of the clouds and froze them into crystals.

"He's making a giant magnifying glass," Elsa realized before whistling to Marshmallow. "Marshmallow, come!"

Marshmallow obediently followed Elsa as Hans sneered with his big black golem form. "What's the matter? Afraid of the dark?"

Elsa shook her head with a as-a-matter-of-fact shrug."No. I just don't want to be blinded by the bright light."

It was then Hans and Pitch realized what they had missed. They turned around and saw the sun blazing and beaming into their eyes. Hans screamed and Pitch forcefully removed himself from Hans' body, trembling and shivering. Hans groaned and began to turn into a withered old man before crashing down on the ground with a soft crunch whereas Pitch had tumbled onto the ground. The black guardian glared spitefully at Jack.

"You will never defeat me, Jack," Pitch howled. "In the end, I have already won...!"

Jack's hair became black as he pointed his staff towards Pitch. "Would you like to have a go at it then?"

It was then that the guardian of Fear knew that he had lost. He shuddered and looked at Elsa who started reverting back to her normal self; her pale blonde hair gleamed under the summer sun. Whereas Jack; he was just getting started. He cast them a withering glare and struggled to crawl away. Pitch shivered before using whatever energy left to crawl back into the shadows, leaving Jack and Elsa to watch him flee into the forest.
