She doesn't dial again or leave a message because his phone is either out of service or turned off, though why that is she isn't sure. Mai feels her throat clench and loses the will to eat, pushing away the steamed rice and miso Izaya left for her. He's probably fine, she tells herself. It isn't unease she's feeling. That's just her empty stomach. She should eat.

But she feels nauseous. And tired.

Maybe she is sick. Should she take the day off? Mai glances off at the calendar. No, she should save her days off for when Shizuo has them. She brings a hand to her throbbing head and tries calling Shizuo again. No answer. Where is he? She thinks of that nightmare and shakes herself. Don't be silly, Mai. It wasn't him. Then she thinks of the flux of nightmares. Izaya's twisted games. Izaya's knife. The stabbing in her nightmare. The stabbing on the news. She's shaking now.
