Chapter 22
The Waiting Game
October 31, 1998
"I know Red was a part of some intimate times in your life-" She started.
"I don't want to be a single parent!" I yelled.
"Daddy?" Ceris' held out her blankety for me. I pinched the bridge of my nose and set it on my lap.
"Oh, OOOOOOOOOOOH." Mama realized. Growing up without a father was very hard in family like ours. Papa had died after he got hurt hunting with my uncles. They called him a newbie and a pooch for bring part of a smaller family. Wolfs don't parent well alone. We just can't do it.
"Mama, please let Red help." I asked.
"I don't know. Maybe we can-" She didn't want to admit that it was too late to get Cerise a new mom. We know our mother's scent after a year of being so close to them.
"Please." I sighed.
"I'll go talk to them." She left.
"Daddy." Cerise hugged my leg.
"Hey, kiddo. We'll get Mommy back soon." I ruffled her hair.
