Chapter 42
Maddie
Raven and me were at recess when a girl came up to us. She had purple and teal hair and a tiny hat, "I'm Maddie. Let's have a tea party!"
Then she pulled a table and tea pot out of her hat. There was food at the table, too. Tiny sandwiches and cookies. I looked at Raven. She shrugged. I grabbed a sandwich and bit it. It tasted like peanuts and strawberries. It was sticky and yummy.
"Chairs!" She got us chairs and let us sit. Then we got tea. Mine was very hot so I ate more while I waited. Sparrow came and ate all the cookies.
"I was gonna eat one!" Raven yelled at him.
"YOU shoulda ate it before I got here." He sneered.
"You weren't invited. Go away!" I growled.
He flinched then knocked the table over, "Fine!"
"Get away from us!" Raven blasted Sparrow.
"OW!" He yelled.
The strange girl sniffed. That wasn't funny. I was drinking that tea and eating that food. It was our tea party. I gave her a hankie and she blotted her eyes.
The playground person came and took Sparrow to the office and told Raven not blast him so hard next time. Then we went back inside. Maddie was weird, but fun. Raven liked her too. Maybe we could make cookies. I like cookies. I think she does too.
On the weekend, I had Raven and Maddie over and we made brownies. Mom ran out of my favorite cookie stuff, but it was fun. Maddie liked it. And we watched TV while we waited for them to bake. She spoke in riddles. Dad said it was called Riddlish. It's confusing. Mom let them take some brownies home when they had to go.
