Just to clear a few things up:1) Diana won't die
2) She didn't cause her car wreck
3) She isn't going to fake a pregnancy to keep Beck.
4) Jade doesn't want Beck's money. And now we return to our regularly scheduled programming.

"Beck! Beck!"

Beck looked up from his cell phone to see his mother-in-law running towards him. Her face was flushed, her blonde hair was in a messy ponytail, and she was panting by the time she got to him.

Beck stood up to greet Patricia. "Hi, Patricia."

"What's going on? Where's my daughter?"

"I don't know." Beck replied. "Her doctor called me about half an hour ago, and I just rushed over here. I haven't even seen Diana's doctor yet."

"What happened?"

"All I know is that she was in a car wreck. Why was Diana out so late?"

"We were hungry, and she told me that she would go grab us some burgers from some twenty-four hour fast food place. I offered to go with her, but she said she was fine. I should have gone with her, we shouldn't have been up so late. This could have been avoided-"

Beck pulled Patricia into a tight embrace. "This isn't your fault. Don't blame yourself for this."

"I'm a mom. We can find ways to do this to ourselves. If my daughter-"

"We don't even know what we're dealing with. Let's take this one step at a time, okay?"

"Okay." Patricia's phone rang, startling her. She jumped. She checked her phone. "Oh good, it's Frank." She answered the call. "Hi, honey...I'm at the hospital with Beck...no, not yet...all I know is that it was a car accident. I don't know if she's the victim, if she caused it, anything...of course...I hope so...well I don't want to stress her out...of course I will...no, you don't have to...I guess I'll see you when you get here...I love you, too...bye." Patricia put her phone back in her pants.

"Can I get you something from the cafeteria while we wait?"

Patricia shook her head, "No, thank you. I'm fine right now. I just want to get some news on Diana."

Beck sat back in his seat and let out a deep breath. Was this seriously happening? Diana was somewhere in this hospital, and he had no idea what was going on. He just hoped she was okay.

"Is anyone here for Diana Oliver?"

Beck stood upon hearing Diana's name. "I'm her husband."

"Hello Mr. Oliver. I'm Doctor Spencer. I spoke to you on the phone."

"Yes." Beck pointed to Patricia. "This is my mother-in-law, Diana's mother."

"Patricia Holloway." Patricia extended her hand for the doctor to shake. "Please tell me Diana is fine."

"The police said Diana was the victim of a drunk driver. He ran a red light in a busy intersection, crashed right into her." Dr. Spencer said.

Beck felt his stomach drop. "How is she doing?" Surely if Diana was dead, the doctor would have said so by now.

"Not conscious, but alive. We're going to give her a CT scan and an MRI to check for any brain damage, but so far we do know that she might have suffered from abdominal trauma and was internally bleeding. Diana also broke one of her ribs, but luckily it didn't puncture a lung or a major organ, and she broke her left leg. She ended up hemorrhaging, so we had to give her a blood transfusion. And we have moved her upstairs to the ICU."

"Do whatever you have to do." Beck said. "I'll give you permission to do whatever you have to in order to keep her alive."

"Very well. I'll be back at soon as I have more information for you."

"Thank you."

"Doctor, when can we see her?" Patricia asked, reaching out to touch the doctor's coat.

"Not now, but I will come back when you can. It's the ICU so only a few people will be allowed in at a time."

"It's only us." Beck said. "We're the only ones here."

"Okay."

The doctor walked off, leaving Beck and Patricia alone. Beck sunk back into his chair. It was good to know Diana didn't die, but her life was still up in the air.

"Diana told me you guys are getting a divorce."

The divorce. That was the last thing on Beck's mind. "Yes, I told her I wanted a divorce a few days ago."

"That's too bad. Too many marriages end in divorce."

"Diana and I-"

"I've been with Frank since I was nineteen years old, and sometimes I look at him while he's sleep and I contemplate smothering him. And I don't doubt for a second that he doesn't feel the same way at times, but marriage is a commitment. It's a marathon, not a sprint."

"I know. I know what I took a vow to do, but I don't think Diana and I are on the same page anymore. We want different things."

Patricia nodded, "Okay. Diana's heartbroken."

"Really?"

"I know Diana doesn't like to show too much emotion, but she is a big ball of them. Especially this past year."

"I agree. She's been different. A lot more distant and shut off from me than normal."

"Diana's mind is like a one thousand piece jigsaw puzzle. Her thoughts and actions are all over the place. But, I do know my daughter, and I know when she's on the decline."

Beck didn't say anything. Had Diana been slowly falling apart in front of him, and he simply did not notice?

No, that couldn't be possible. Diana was mean and cold, not depressed. Depression couldn't be possible. What would she have to be depressed about? Is their house too big, is her Mercedes too new? Is being married to a millionaire that hard?

Beck stopped himself. Thinking condescending thoughts about Diana was not going to help.

The one thing Beck couldn't help but think about was Jade. He just left in the middle of the night. Would she be pissed? Upset? Confused?

He looked at his watch. He'd have to call her at a more appropriate hour and explain this situation to her. And hopefully she'd understand.

"Can you pass me the jam, Jade?" Karen asked, pointing at the crystal container next to Jade's hand.

Jade didn't reply. She just continued to stare at her cell phone, obviously in her own world.

"Jade?" Karen repeated. "Jade."

Tyler, annoyed with her sister's short attention span and deaf ears, hit her leg.

"Hey!" Jade balled up her fist and hit Tyler back. "What was that for?"

"Mom keeps calling you, space brain. Pay attention."

"Jade, we're out. Can you please focus on us?" Karen asked politely.

The threesome was currently out to brunch at the Ritz-Carlton in downtown Los Angeles. And Jade's mind was not with her at the table. It was with Beck. He wasn't answering his cell phone and when she woke up, he wasn't there.

Jade stuck out her tongue at Tyler. She put her cell phone on the table. "Sorry, mom. I'm a little preoccupied right now."

"Anything you want to talk about?"

Jade shook her head, "No, not really."

"Okay." Karen's pretty blue eyes shifted back and forth between her children. "Have either of you talked to your father?"

"I saw him yesterday."

"Really?"

"He called me stupid, pathetic, and a whole bunch of other harsh things."

"What?"

"Yeah, we got into an argument. It was pretty ugly."

Karen shook her head feverishly, a few strands of her falling out of the clip they were in. "He has no right to say anything like that to you!"

"Mom, it's okay."

"No, it is not!" Karen argued. "Why would he even think of talking down to you?"

"It's a long story and it's not one that I don't want to talk about in public." Jade said, shutting down the conversation. She picked up her glass and took a sip of her orange juice.

"Fair enough." Karen reached across the table to get Jade's hand. She gave it a firm squeeze. "I'm sorry. I'll definitely be talking to your father."

"You don't have to."

"Yes I do." Karen challenged. "You're my baby."

Jade smiled. Despite the complete shit storm that was her life, she knew her mother and brother would always be in her corner, no questions asked.

She felt Tyler grab her upper arm and pull her out of her seat. "Hey!"

"We have to talk. Now."

Tyler dragged Jade over to a secluded area of the room, near the bar.

"Let me go." Jade hissed.

Tyler dropped Jade's arm. "Arguing with dad!"

"Ugh, I just said I was not in the mood to talk-"

"Jade, I don't know if you remember this or not, but four days ago, you got diagnosed with a heart condition. And I hate to be a downer, but it's one that could kill you."

"I didn't forget."

"Then why were you arguing with dad?"

"He knows about Beck."

"How?"

"Someone informed him, I don't know who. He confronted me right after you and I got off the phone with each other, and we argued."

"How did you feel afterwards?"

"I felt a little dizzy, so I just got into bed. I'm fine now."

"At any point did it occur to you to tell dad what was going on?"

"I could barely get a word in, he was doing all the talking and yelling. And do you think it would have made any difference? Dad never misses an opportunity to let me know how much he doesn't like me."

"Don't say that."

"You know it's true, don't try to deny it." Tyler didn't try to argue. "Mom is going to be pissed if we stay over here any longer."

"You're right. I have to get going anyway."

"Where? You have some hot date?"

"You know my mind is focused solely on getting out of medical school. A woman can come after I am handed my diploma."

"We're going to have to beat them away with a stick." Jade teased. "As soon as women find out that my handsome brother is on his way to becoming a surgeon, they'll be all over you."

"Yeah right."

"Just don't bring home any crazies." Jade added, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "I may have an irregular heartbeat but I will still cut a bitch over my brother."

"I already have you, I can't handle another crazy woman."

"Screw you."

The siblings made their way back to the table where Karen was still sitting, looking out one of the windows.

Once her children returned to the table, Karen have them her attention. "What were you guys doing over there? Swapping secrets?"

"We were trying to decide if we should set you up on match-dot-com or eHarmony." Tyler joked.

"Very funny." Karen deadpanned.

Jade's phone buzzed quietly on the table. She flipped it over and saw Beck's name attached to a text message. She opened the message.

To: Jade
From: Beck
Can you meet me at the office? We need to talk.

"Hey, I have to get to the office. Mom, I'll take you home."

"Okay."

"I'll pay." Tyler said, pulling his wallet out of his pocket.

"Oh, you're such a gentleman." Karen cooed. "I knew I did something right with you."

Tyler stood and kissed his mother's cheek. "Bye, mom."

"Bye, darling."

Jade watched as her mother gathered up her stuff and made her way to the hotel exit. She stood as well. "Don't spend all day studying. Take a break and do something unproductive."

"I'll try."

"You better."

"And you," Tyler gave Jade a pointed look, "relax. You are the cause of all my stress, missy."

"Sir, yes, sir."

Tyler kissed Jade's forehead, "See you later."

"Bye."

Jade walked out of the dining area of the hotel. Now that she was finally alone, she was able to reply to Beck's message. She fired off a quick reply before putting her phone away.

To: Beck
From: Jade
I'll be there in about 30.

She broke out into a quick sprint and was able to catch up to her mother, who was waiting to get the car from the valet.

"Where were you at?"

"I got caught up sending a text message." Jade answered. "Hey, Beck is having a complete meltdown at work. Jill and I have to get in there to keep him from firing everybody."

"Oh, dear." Karen chuckled. "Adult temper tantrums are the worst."

"Yeah, and now I have to talk him off of the ledge." Jade continued, silently cursing herself. When did she become so good at lying?

Karen linked arms with Jade, pulling her in close. "Okay."

Jade's BMW pulled up in front of the hotel and the valet got out. He smiled at her as he gave her the car keys.

Jade untangled herself from her mother. She rounded the car and slid into the driver's seat.

"Since we're alone now, you can tell me all about why you and your father are on the outs."

"Mom-"

"Start talking."

Jade closed her door. This wasn't going to be a fun conversation.

The Oliver Pictures studio lot was really quiet on Sundays. No one was there working, save for a few random people.

It was exact same way once Jade stepped off the elevator. The usually busy office floor was empty. The computers were turned off, the lights were dimmed. Jade couldn't even see if Beck was in his office or not because his thick door was closed.

"Beck?" Jade called. "Are you even here?"

She pushed open the door and saw Beck sitting behind his desk, his head in his hands.

"Hey."

Beck looked up at Jade. She instantly noticed that he looked awful. He had dark circles under his eyes, and they were bloodshot.

"Hi." Beck greeted. He got out of his seat and made his way to where
Jade was standing.

"What's going on?" Jade asked. "Are we the only two people here? Are you-"

Beck grabbed the back of Jade's head and pulled her into a kiss, shutting her up.

It startled Jade a bit. When did Beck become so...aggressive? It threw her off, but she quickly got over her awe and kissed him back, matching his fervor.

"What's going on with you?" Jade asked after she broke the kiss.

Beck took a deep breath and closed his eyes, but he didn't remove his hands from Jade's hair. He just wanted to freeze time, clear his mind, and not think.

"I'm sorry." He finally said.

"For what?"

"I left in the middle of the night like a bandit."

"What happened?"

Beck buried his face in Jade's hair, inhaling the scent of her shampoo. "I got a call and I had to leave."

"Okay." Jade was pretty content with the answer. She knew the call had to be pretty serious if Beck had to leave.

"Diana's in the hospital." He added.

"What?"

Beck managed to pull himself away from Jade, who wore a look of complete shock.

"She was driving when a guy ran a red light and hit her."

Jade's hand instantly flew to her mouth. "Oh my God. How is she?"

"Bad. She hasn't woken up yet. Diana's mother suggested I go home and get some sleep, but I can't sleep, so I decided to come here. Work isn't the best distraction, either."

"Is Diana...will she-" Jade stopped herself and tried to regain her composure. "How critical is her condition? Is she in the clear?" The words 'die', 'dead', and 'death' refused to leave her lips. They were just stuck in her throat.

Beck shook his head and sat down on his desk. If it were any other time, Jade would have teased him. "As of now, no."

Jade's stomach lurched. She felt sick.

What was the proper thing to say in this type of situation? She definitely hoped Diana would pull through, but she physically wasn't able to talk.

Beck looked up at Jade, wondering if she had something to say. By the looks of it, no. The cat had her tongue and didn't plan on giving it back.

Jade suddenly felt a panic creep on her. What did this mean for Beck? For her? For them? She knew it was selfish to be thinking about herself when Diana was the one in the hospital bed, but she couldn't help it.

Beck must have noticed Jade's calm before the storm because he reached up and stroked her cheek.

"Beck, what are you going to do?"

"I haven't even allowed myself to think that far into the future. This has been a minute-by-minute thing. At least until we know Diana is in a stable enough condition. I just thought you needed to know."

"Thank you for telling me." Beck nodded in reply. Jade took a step towards Beck. Her hands grasped the back of his head, and he leaned in to her as a result.

Jade wanted to assure Beck that everything was going to be fine. Everything would work itself out. She had been saying that almost every day to herself, just to keep her sanity. But she couldn't. What if it wasn't?

"I love you."

Those three words brought Jade back to reality. She looked down at Beck, whose brown eyes were staring back up at her.

"I love you." He repeated. "And I've probably been in love with you since we met. I love you, even though you drive me up a wall ninety-nine percent if the time. I love you, and I'm sorry because this is such a fucked up situation."

"I love you too." Jade tilted her head forward, so her forehead was now touching Beck's. This was new to her. Jade didn't do love and commitment. Jade did partying, casual sex, and fun. The foreign concept scared her and comforted her at the same time.

"I need to go back." Beck said. Even though he said the words, he didn't move.

"I understand." But Jade didn't want to. She wanted to scream, pull a face, and throw a fit. But what good would that do? What type of person would Jade be if she were to say, 'Screw your wife! You dumped her and it's done with, so leave her alone," but that would be cruel. Jade could admit to being a bitch, but she wasn't cruel. Beck had to at least sit with Diana through critical condition.

Instead of voicing one of the many fucked up thoughts running through her mind, Jade just gave Beck another kiss.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

That incessant noise is the first thing Diana heard when she started to regain consciousness.

Wherever it was coming from, she wanted it off.

When she was finally able to blink her eyes open, she was greeted by god awful fluorescent lights. Where was she? And why were the lights so bright?

Diana turned her head slightly and saw Beck sitting in a chair next to her, reading what looked like a TIME Magazine.

"Beck?" Diana didn't even recognize her own voice. It was so hoarse and her throat was burning.

Beck's head snapped up and he turned to Diana. He let out a sigh. "Oh, thank God, you're woke."

"What-"

Beck got out of his seat and made his way to Diana's bedside. His entire body visibly slacked. "Take it easy alright."

Diana stared at Beck, searching his face. "Why are you here, watching me sleep?"

"You're in the hospital." Beck said.

Diana's eyes got wide. She felt anxious. "What?"

"You don't remember?"

Diana looked around at all of the machines and wires she was hooked up to. She grabbed one of them and pulled.

"Diana, don't do that." Beck ordered, reaching out to touch Diana's hand.

She didn't listen to Beck. She tried to sit up despite the face that her leg was in a cast, but the intense pain in her rib cage stopped her immediately. Diana unwillingly let out a groan of pain.

"Diana, stop! You're going to hurt yourself." Beck reached over Diana's body and grabbed her remote control. He pushed the red button in hopes of getting someone's attention.

The beeping noise started back up, only this time it was much more frantic.

As if on cue, a nurse walked in. She took one look at Diana and rushed to her side, pushing past Beck to do so. Moments later, two more nurses came in, one with a syringe.

One of them turned to Beck, "Sir, you need to leave."

"What's going on with her?" Beck asked.

The nurse pushed Beck to the door, "Sir, we need you to step out for a moment."

Beck walked out of room, and the door was quickly shut behind him.

.

.

The next time Diana woke up, she didn't have a complete freak out.

Instead of Beck at her bedside, it was her mother. Patricia was staring intently at her daughter, almost as if she was willing her to wake up. It must have worked.

"Hi, sleeping beauty." Patricia greeted.

Diana blinked a few times and tried to raise her hand. It didn't work. She had no energy.

"What's going on?"

"Take it easy, baby. You're in the hospital."

"Why?"

"You were in an accident. You were hit by a drunk driver." Patricia explained. She reached out and stroked Diana's hair. "You woke up a few hours ago, but I think you had a panic attack so a nurse had to sedate you."

"Beck." Diana croaked out. She vaguely remembered Beck being here.

"He's right outside. He's on the phone with his mother. He was in here when it happened. Can you remember any of this?"

Diana slightly shook her head. Her mind was a complete fog. Thinking was harder than it should be.

"How long have I been out?"

"Since the sedative? Three hours."

"Since the crash?"

"That was about two in the morning so, about eighteen hours. Now that you're up, you're doctor can come in and look at you." Patricia stood and reached across Diana's bed. "Maybe we can get a good idea of what's going on."

Diana closed her eyes. She wasn't really in the mood to see a doctor. "I'm so tired."

"You can rest soon enough."

A few minutes later, Diana's general physician, Dr. Stevens was in her room.

"Diana, it's so nice to see you. I wish it was under better circumstances."

"Hi, doctor."

Dr. Stevens sat down and logged on to the computer in front of him. "I was looking at your CT scan Diana. You have a concussion."

"I'm going to be okay, right?"

"We're going to have to monitor that closely. A concussion can have some long term effects."

"Like?" Patricia asked.

"Headaches, confusion, dizziness, amnesia, you might be a little more emotional than usual, and on the more serious side, you can develop depression and anxiety. They can last a few days, or even a year."

Diana nodded, "Okay."

"How is your chest and stomach feeling? Those ribs are not looking too good."

"They feel awful." Diana mumbled, still feeling groggy. "I feel awful."

"Ribs tend to heal on their own. They'll get better. But every few hours, I want you to cough, as deep as you can."

"Why?"

"So your lungs don't collapse and you don't get pneumonia."

Diana tiredly rubbed her eyes. "Is that all?"

"For now. I'll be back shortly to check on you again."

"Thank you." Patricia said. She felt like she could breath easier now that Diana had regained consciousness.

"No problem."

Dr. Stevens got out of his seat, "I'll have a nurse being you some pain medication shortly for your ribs. Any other pains?"

"My stomach." Diana answered.

"You did have abdominal trauma, so pain to be expected."

"Okay."

"Just call me if you need anything, dear." The older doctor said, leaving the room.

.

.

"Here is your coffee, my dear." Nora held out a cup of coffee for Beck to grab.

Beck looked up and grabbed the cup. "Thank you."

Nora sat down next to Beck, "How you holding up?"

"I don't even know. I think I'm running on autopilot."

Diana may not be Nora's favorite person in the world, but she was her daughter-in-law. They were family, and Nora wasn't about to sit at home while the poor woman was in the hospital, and she wasn't going to let her son go through it alone.

"My last conversation with Diana was horrible." Beck continued. "We had an argument. Diana and I are equally matched when it comes to throwing condescending insults back and forth." He chuckled humorlessly. "I'll never meet someone who can be as nasty as she can without raising their voice or batting an eyelash."

Nora rubbed Beck's shoulder. "We cannot focus on that right now. We have to stay strong and send nothing but positive energy Diana's way. She's going to need it."

"There's so much going on at one time. I'm so tired."

"And that's why your father and I decided that you are not to go back to work for a few weeks."

"Mom-"

"I know you're the president and you love you your job, but even the boss deserves a vacation."

"I don't-"

"I'm not taking no for an answer." Nora said, giving Beck a pointed look. "You're spreading yourself too thin."

"Maybe you're right."

"I know I'm right. I'm your mother. As I am pulling maternal rank on you. And being your boss' wife helps as well. Step foot in that office while Diana is still in the hospital and you are going to be in serious trouble, mister. Are we clear?"

"Crystal."

"Good." Nora took Beck's coffee cup out of his hand and took a sip.

.

.

"I can't wait until you are out of this hospital." Patricia said, fluffing up one of Diana's pillows. "I am going to cook you whatever you want."

"What I really want is a deep dish pizza from Gino's. Too bad they are two thousand miles away."

"I can make you a pizza." Patricia compromised. "You and daddy always loved my pizza."

"I want pepperoni and sausage."

"Like I said, whatever you want."

Diana sat up slightly in her bed, taking a deep breath as another pain shot through her body. She found breathing through the pain made it slightly more tolerable. "Where's Beck?"

"Beck is sitting right outside with Nora." Patricia leaned in closer. "You know, he only left once. And he only did it because I made him, but he came back an hour later."

"Mom, I can't-"

"Look, Beck obviously loves you."

"Beck's obligated to be here as my husband."

"I don't know why you two are rushing to get a divorce. You might still be able to salvage your marriage."

"I can't."

"Why not?"

"My marriage is destroyed, mother. Destroyed beyond repair. There are just so many things wrong, I don't even know where to start."

"At some point, every marriage is thrown into the pits of hell, but you can make it work if you want to. You can go to counseling, you can try to have another baby-"

"No baby." Diana said.

"Why not?

"I can't have a baby."

"What?"

"I was pregnant, I lost the baby."

"I know. I was there. Diana, losing a baby doesn't mean you can't have one."

Diana shook her head, "No, I physically cannot have children."

"Since when?" Patricia asked.

"Since a year ago apparently. After losing the baby, I decided that I was going to go through hell and high water to get pregnant again. So I kept trying, and trying, and trying, but it wasn't working, so I decided to see my doctor. Turns out I have Asherman's syndrome and my uterus is scarred beyond repair."

Patricia reached our and touched Diana's hand. "Oh, honey. Honey, I am so sorry."

"I'm...fine."

"No woman on earth would be fine. It is okay to show emotion, Diana."

"Well mother, I am one in a million. I've known this for about a year, and I've made my peace with it."

Patricia looked at Diana, not believing her story. Why did she keep this to herself?

"How did Beck take the news?"

"Beck doesn't know."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean exactly that." Diana wrung her hands together. "He doesn't know about any of it. And there's no need to tell him."

"Diana-"

"And if the fact that my womb is destroyed isn't enough, Beck has another woman." Diana continued. "He has fallen for his assistant. His stupid fucking assistant! She's younger, and she's so pretty it hurts, and my husband wants to be with her."

"I can't do anything right. I lose a baby, the ability to have another one, my husband, I'm in the fucking hospital." Diana looked at the table beside her bed. She knocked over the cup and plate sitting on it in a burst of anger. "I'm not meant to be a wife, I'm not meant to be a mother, and it really, really sucks." Diana hit the table with her open palm. "It really sucks, mom!"

Patricia pulled Diana into a hug, "I know it does."

Patricia would do everything in her power to protect her daughter. And as long as she had any say, Diana and Beck would be fine.

.

.

"Beck, come walk with me."

Beck looked up from Diana's sleeping form to see Patricia standing over him.

"Sure." Beck pushed himself up. He glanced back at Diana once more. "Lead the way, ma'am."

The two walked out Diana's room, quietly shutting the door behind them.

"You tired, yet?" Patricia asked, trying to start a conversation. "We've been here for," she checked her watch, "almost a day."

"I'm so tired, I am not even sleepy. Does that make sense?"

Patricia nodded, "It does."

Beck pressed the button on the elevator, and a few seconds later, it opened. They stepped inside. "But if I close my eyes, I might sleep for a year."

"I pulled you out of Diana's room because I wanted to talk to you."

"Okay. Did you want to go to the cafeteria or something?"

"I know." Patricia said.

"Know what?" Beck prodded.

"I know about Jade."

Beck pushed the stop button on the elevator. He turned back to Patricia. "Excuse me?"

"Diana told me that you're leaving her for your assistant."

"Diana knows?"

"Yeah. She's known for awhile now."

"Patricia, I'm-"

"My daughter is in the hospital and you have a mistress!" Patricia hissed. "Now obviously Diana won't confront you, but I will. How dare you? What gives you the right? Do you think because you have a lot of money, you get to throw your vows away!"

"Patricia-"

"I'm talking!"

Beck's sentence caught in his throat. "Sorry."

"My daughter is in a room fighting for her life. Are you really going to run off to Fairytale Land with your assistant?"

"I'm not talking about this with you, Patricia. You want to talk to me about how Diana should be number one priority, but here we are, you have cornered me in an elevator to talk about something that isn't even in my mind."

Patricia sighed in annoyance. "Fine." She unstopped the elevator and the door opened. They were on the same floor they started out on. Forget going to the cafeteria. Beck didn't feel hungry anymore.

They saw a bunch of doctors and nurses frantically running. It looked like they were going to Diana's room. Beck and Patricia followed.

A team of doctors were in Beck's room, shouting out medical jargon so fast, Beck couldn't keep up.

"What's going on?" Beck asked, pulling a nurse's arm. "I'm her husband."

"Sir, your wife's abdominal trauma has caused her to bleed internally. It's pretty severe, but we caught it."

"We're losing her!" A voice called out. "Is the OR ready for me?"

"No ultrasound to check where the bleed is coming from?"

"No time! Get the OR ready for me, now!"

Beck was able to look past all the people and find Diana. She was unconscious, and a doctor was pressing on her stomach.

"Is my wife going to die?" Beck asked.

Diana's doctor pursed her lips, "We need to get her into surgery so we can stop the bleeding. We have amazing surgeons here."

"I don't want her to die." Beck said, his voice cracking. Diana was fine for minutes ago.

"We will do everything in our power to make sure she survives. We just need you to sign some consent forms."

Beck nodded, "Of course. I'll sign whatever I need to."

Beck and Patricia were pushed out of the room, so Diana was able to get wheeled out. It all happened so fast, Beck barely had time to catch his breath.

Patricia turned to Beck, "So are you still going to leave her? She could've died."

Beck didn't even reply. He just followed the nurse so he could sign the consent forms for the surgery.
