I apologize in advance – my first language is not English so please bear with me if you spot any grammatical or other errors. I won't be mad if you point them out of course just stay nice
My whole knowledge (or lack thereof) of the American school system comes from TV, movies, books and fanfiction. I hope I don't offend anyone with my rather stereotypical description of the "a typical High School of the US", but this story is meant for fun anyway.
Here we go :)
Robbie stared at himself in the mirror. He chose a blue-green striped t-shirt and casual jeans combined with white sneakers to wear on his first day at Hollywood Arts Elite High School. His glasses were sat on his nose and he tried to comb his hair with his hands. It was just two days ago that he acted on impulse and went to the hairdresser to get his hair cut. Now he somehow looked like a normal person. He couldn't understand that his mom loved his locks. "But honey, they look so cute and not everybody is blessed with such beautiful curls!" Yeah right. He sighed. It's not like he didn't know how his school day would be. He had been to seven high schools in the past three years.
One way or another, they were all the same. Some things just didn't change – like the fact that he would always be a nerd, an outsider, a weird guy. It's not that he was that weird. He just liked school and wasn't into sports and he was generally a nice person. But obviously that wasn't the standard for popularity in American high schools. The only difference now was that he would stay at that school for the entire year. He wouldn't move after three months of being ignored or (sometimes) bullied. He would finish his senior year at one school. His father thought that it would help him bond with people and get a decent reputation. Sure. His father who had been his school's star quarterback and envied by everybody didn't want his son to be such a loser. But he couldn't help it. "Robbie, it's time for breakfast. Do you want to be late on your first day?" His mother shouted from downstairs. 'Dear god, that would be a tragedy' he thought to himself. Here's to first school days!
The drive to the school didn't take him too long and soon he was entering the parking lot of the impressive building. He knew that Hollywood Arts Elite School was very renowned and he was thankful for his scholarship. He just hoped that people wouldn't find it out too soon. Sure, his family was far from being poor. But he was certain that the people at this school were used to luxury. The majority of big and expensive cars just proved his point. He was glad that his 1963 Mercury Comet, for which he had saved since he was twelve years old, could probably be considered "vintage" or something.
He left the lot and headed to the massive entrance doors. He caught some curious glances here and there. The students were probably wondering who that nerdy guy was and if he was new at school. And then they dismissed him as unimportant. Robbie just ignored them. He was used to it after all. He made his way towards the registration office to get his locker combination and schedule. A few minutes later he was searching the halls for his locker. He checked the number again to see if he was at the right floor.
Just at that moment he bumped into someone and fell ungraciously to the ground. 'Way to go Shapiro!' he thought to himself and dared to look up. He had crashed into a boy, probably his age. He was tall and had awesome hair (Really, was it that hard to have hair like that guy?) and dressed pretty cool. He definitely could be one of the popular guys and Robbie cursed under his breath. He just hoped the guy wasn't some jock who would like to tie him to a flagpole or worse.
"Sorry" he managed to bring out, still sitting on the floor like an idiot. The guy smirked and held his hand to help him get up. "No problem. Better watch out next time, Glasses" He nodded and walked away. Robbie was surprised. So he had survived crashing into a guy who seemed stronger than him and who was even nice! Maybe people in this school weren't that horrible. Robbie just wanted to resume the search for his locker when a boy appeared in front of him. "Hi! You must be Robert Shapiro. I'm Sinjin van Cleef but just call me Sinjin. I was assigned to show you the school and help you with everything" Robbie smiled at the kid. Sinjin was taller than he was, very thin and his hair looked so weird that Robbie was thankful for his locks for the first time in his life. But of course the new nerd had to be welcomed by an even nerdier student. He wondered if some popular kid would've been his guide if he was a football scholar or else. But then again, popular kids don't really function as "Welcome to the school, I'll show you around"-guides.
"Hey Sinjin. Robbie, I avoid being called Robert. Could you possibly show me my locker first? I fear I might get late to class if I don't find it soon" Sinjin nodded and lead the way. On the way Sinjin asked him a few questions about himself and invited him to join his web show about an online game called "Masters & Dungeons" and Robbie politely declined. He didn't want to be mean but even he found that online game ridiculous. When they finally arrived at the right locker, Robbie spotted a small crowd of people a few feet away from them. They seemed to be circled around a brunette girl. "Hey Sinjin, who's that" He nodded his head and Sinjin looked at the direction. "Oh, that's Tori Vega. One of the school's very own queen bees" Robbie took a closer look at her. That Tori girl was like the epitome of pretty. She was slim, had long chocolate brown wavy hair and very prominent cheekbones which gave her face a cute and delicate shape. Yep, she looked like a textbook example of a prom queen … hold on.
"Sinjin, did you say 'one' of the school's queen bees?" That was weird. In all the school's he had been this past years there was always one of these so called queen bees. Sure, there had been her friends and minions who were also very popular but they weren't the leaders. "Yeah. Tori used to be the only one after her sister graduated three years ago. But then Jade West came to our school and now they're like fighting for the throne or something. But Jade already won my heart" The guy put his hands over his heart and sighed. Robbie couldn't hold back a small chuckle.
He put some of his books in the locker and took a look at his schedule. His first class was AP English. Great, at least something easy to begin with. He told the still day-dreaming Sinjin about his class and the boy lead him to the second floor. When they arrived there they saw that the people in the hallway swerve to the side as to make room for someone. He also saw the reason behind that: a girl was making her way in his direction. But not any girl. She couldn't be described other than "WOW". Her long, raven locks cascaded delicately over her slim but curvy figure. The dark hair brought out her piercing blue-green eyes and her pale skin. She was dressed in dark but stylish clothes and there was something about her that made him just gaze at her like an idiot. And his mouth was hanging open. What the hell? But when he managed to regain his composure he saw that he wasn't the only one. Nearly every guy in the hallway and even most of the girls looked in awe at the dark haired beauty until she entered one of the classrooms and the spell was broken. They started chatting again and he heard "Damn she's still so incredibly hot!" and "How does she make her hair flow like that? Mine's always so flat!" and "I'd sell my soul to the devil to bang her!" He looked at Sinjin who seemed like he was in trance and looking at the door which the girl had entered. "Ehm … Sinjin? Hello, earth to Sinjin!" Robbie flicked his fingers in front of the boy's face and he jumped a little and turned to look at him. "Who was that?" "The girl of my sleepless nights – that my friend was Jade West. And you lucky bastard have AP English with her!" Robbie`s eyes grew wide. So that was the famous Jade West. Well, he could see where her popularity came from. Seriously, moments ago he was mesmerized by her mere presence and he couldn't state why. Sure, she was gorgeous but he had seen many beautiful girls in his life. She just had something mysterious and exciting about her which seemed to draw people to her. And they had class together. Which brought a new question up: since when did stunning queen bees care for good grades or where good enough to be in AP English? Jeez, Hollywood Arts Elite was definitely different than other high schools.
Opinions? :)
