Greetings, fellow readers! You're probably wondering what this update is all about. Well, I will cut to the chase. I have good news and bad news.
The bad news is I will not be updating A Universal Adventure anymore. I have been unable to work on any fanfiction projects for the past three years due to moving to a new home and struggling to adapt. This, along with working on my bachelor's degree, finding a job, and reading new chapters of Naruto (among other things) has made me lose any desire to continue this story.
However, the good news is just because I'm not updating this story, it doesn't necessarily mean that this story has to remain unfinished. So, I'm offering to let another fanfiction writer adopt this story for their own and continue the story in their own way. Here's how it will work:
Process:
If you are interested in adopting the story, send me a private message. To let me know you can keep characters in character, give me a brief writing sample of a Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh character interacting in some way.
After reading your sample, I will briefly glance over your fanfiction profile. I'll be doing this to judge whether or not AUA will possibly enter another hiatus. (Note: So long as you've posted something in the last year or so, you'll automatically go to the next step. If it's been 2-3 years since an update or you've never posted a fanfiction before, however, you may still be considered, depending on how many writers show interest in adopting this fanfic.)
If I think you can do a good job writing the story, I will message you back and ask you to write your own interpretation of an early scene in AUA. The scene will be your choice of three scenes I've already decided.
After my message to you, you have ten days to give me your scene, along with an estimate of when you can post AUA under your screen name. That way, if I choose you, I can give you credit in the next update and direct the fans to your account.
Once going through all of these steps, I will review your writing sample and message you on whether or not I can give you permission to be the new writer for A Universal Adventure. If you get approved, I will send you copies of each chapter (save for the titles, intros and outros) just in case you want to use them as outlines for when you upload the story.
Now that I've told you guys how this will work, I will answer some questions you might have.
Will you only accept a fanfiction writer that's already written fanfictions for Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh in the past?
No, not necessarily. I'm not sure how many of you will be interested in adopting AUA, so I am open to anyone taking it. I'm more concerned with whether or not you'd be able to write these characters and keep them relatively in character. Even if you've never written a fanfiction before, I will consider you as well, despite not knowing how often you would update.
Will I be expected to know everything about Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh to be considered for taking the story out of your hands?
Not everything, but I expect the writer to be a decent fan of both animes. On the Yu-Gi-Oh end, you must know up to at least right before the final season. On the Naruto end, at least know up to when Tsunade takes the position of Hokage. So, for anime fans, basically make it through episode 100.
Do the old chapters you've already written have to stay exactly the way you wrote them?
For the most part, no. I have a rule with character inclusion, but I'll talk about that later. As for the story itself, it doesn't have to stay exactly the same. In fact, I encourage you to tamper with it. Of course, you won't be able to just toss out everything in the story; the idea for how the Yu-Gi-Oh cast get thrust into the world of Naruto is basically what starts the story, after all. But if the chapters stayed exactly the same, it would get dull for the fans moving from this version of AUA to the new one. So, feel free to word the story in your way. Go ahead and edit or add scenes for clarity, as well. If you feel it necessary, remove scenes that seem like filler or make no sense whatsoever (personally, off of memory, I could think of two or three moments I would probably take out).
Note: this carries over for character names, too. If you prefer the Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh names over the English ones, feel free to change that as well.
So, what about the characters? Can we put in more than you've used already?
Well, it depends. As far as Naruto characters go, you can put in other characters so long as you give a good reason for them to be there. (I had planned on bringing in more characters anyways) Of course, I don't think it would be wise to bring in characters introduced in Shippuden like Sai or the higher ups in the Akatsuki, but if you wanna play around with other Leaf ninjas like Kiba, Neji, or Iruka or Sound ninja Kabuto, feel free to give it a try.
Yu-Gi-Oh characters, however, I'm a lot more strict on. I kept their inclusion to Yugi (and Yami Yugi), Joey, Tristan and Tea not only because they always go on these bizarre adventures, but so I wouldn't have to focus on more unnecessary Yu-Gi-Oh characters. To keep things focused, I would advise not throwing in other characters from this series.
… With one exception.
If you get to adopt AUA and decide you want Ryou Bakura to be with the main Yu-Gi-Oh cast as well, I will be okay with this. This is mostly because I do see potential with him being there. Off the top of my head, I can imagine him being used to foreshadow Yami Bakura's return once the Yu-Gi-Oh cast goes back to their world. I'm sure other possibilities exist, and if the new writer wants to explore one of those possibilities, I'm open to it.
Hold on. I remember in an earlier chapter, you mentioned a "twist". Do we have to keep that in?
Absolutely not! Looking back, I don't know why I wanted to put this in as a plot point. It honestly seems like something that doesn't belong in there. In fact, I'm not sure I can call it a "twist" since I referred to it as such, and most of you readers were probably able to predict what I had planned for it. If you didn't predict it and decide you want to adopt my story, I will personally share with you what that idea was, and you get control of the story, it will be up to you to decide whether or not this will still be implemented into the story.
Is it okay if I pair (character A) with (character B)?
So long as it isn't a yaoi or a yuri pairing, my answer will be yes. I like to see the exploration of pairings on fanfiction: especially crossover pairings. The only reason I say no towards yaoi or yuri is that both Masashi Kishimoto and Kazuki Takahashi have not made their characters gay and in some cases, they have shown legit proof that these characters love the opposite gender. Still, keep in mind that AUA should have its focus on the story. If you have romance, fine, but just be sure that the story doesn't devolve into a romance epic. This is a world of ninjas these characters are in, after all.
How long will you accept offers in taking AUA off of your hands?
I will set my initial deadline at October 31st in order to give you guys time to not only re-read the chapters to make sure you want to be the new writer of this story, but also time to prepare your samples. If no one offers to take the story by then, I will most likely remove this story from fanfiction permanently. However, if AUA does get adopted, I will keep this story up until the new writer uploads up to chapter three (so I know the writer won't suddenly stop uploading the story). At that point, I will take the story down in order to let you readers focus on the new version.
Here are two more final things to keep in mind. First off, don't try and adopt this story solely as a method to get other readers to look at your stories. While there's no way for me to tell how serious anyone is about adopting AUA, I want to feel like the writers trying out and going through this process want to actually take the story and see it continue.
Finally, if you take this story, please don't character bash! Even if you don't like a particular character (believe me, I have my own personal issues with Sasuke), don't write these characters in a way that shows genuine malice towards them.
Well, that's all I have for now. If I make another update, it will be to tell you all who takes control of A Universal Adventure. To everyone who has followed and reviewed this story, I want to thank you for the support you have given me. When I updated regularly, your reviews helped push me forward and let me know I was doing a good job. To those who will try to adopt my fanfiction, I wish you the best of luck.
Have a wonderful day!
