Neal awoke with a start to someone shaking his shoulder. His eyes flew open to see a rather pretty woman with dark hair and blue, caring eyes shaking him awake. He jumped, starled, and tried to get up quickly.
"Uhhh… sorry." He stuttered out, scrambling up to face the women. He looked around where he had fallen asleep. It was a doorway in New York. How stupid could he be! First the whole fiasco with the painting, then school, then getting lost, and finally sleeping in a doorway where anyone could have taken his wallet, beaten him up, or worse. He just got lucky.
"It's alright." The pretty woman said, straightening up to look at the scruffy teen in front of her in the eyes. "I usually don't find teenagers sleeping in my doorway in the morning, though."
"Uhh… yeah. Sorry." Neal said again, running a hand through his mop of hair that desperately needed brushing after all he had been through. "Well, sorry again. I better get going. My, um, father is probably worried."
Neal tried to move around the woman, but she stopped him with her arm held out. Neal shot her a questioning look.
"I don't think so young man. You look like hell, and any guy dumb enough to fall asleep on a doorway in this city probably doesn't have some place to go to. You are coming with me." The woman ordered, looking fierce, kind and determined all at the same time.
Neal was lost for words. She had called his bluff right away. Not only that, she was ordering him to come inside her building? What was up with that?
"Come in." She said firmly, unlocked the front door of the building, and strode in confidently, holding onto his arm the whole way. Neal staggered in after her, trying to keep up with the woman on a mission.
"I'm Elizabeth by the way." She mentioned, finally letting go of Neal and started to turn on the lights. They seemed to be in a planner's office of some sort.
"Neal." Neal said automatically, then cursed himself. Here he was, being a complete idiot. He just dropped his real name to a random lady he just met! This was so not his week.
"Well Neal, take a seat." Elizabeth said, starting to sort through some papers on her desk. Neal did as he was told, not wanting the woman to push him into one.
"You lucked out Neal." Elizabeth called over to him as she pulled files from drawers.
"Why is that?" Neal asked back, looking around and trying to think of an escape plan.
"I only have three meetings this morning, so I have the afternoon off. You get to spend it with me." Elizabeth told him, placing the files into her purse.
"What!" Neal asked, alarmed. Coming in was one thing, but spending the day was another.
"Yep, I need an assistant today, considering mine is on vacation. You would do perfectly, and you showed up right at my door." Elizabeth told him with a smile. Neal just looked at her as if she was crazy.
"Come on then, first stop is the Empire State building." Elizabeth told him, picking up her purse. Neal just sighed and got up. What the hell had he gotten himself into?

Peter was beyond annoyed with this kid. He had looked into every place his wife had suggested, and many more, but they just couldn't find the kid. Peter was slumped in his office, at the moment, trying to fight the headache that was coming on. The damn kid.
"Peter." Diana's voice came from his door, and he motioned for her to enter, hopefully with some good news. "We haven't found him, but all camera's are alerted are tapped into to search for his face. Take some aspirin, we will let you know if anything changes."
'Thanks." Peter told her, and opened the top drawer of his self. He removed a pill and grabbed a cup of water on his desk. Getting up to look outside his office, he could just see the tip of the Empire State building. He placed the aspirin in his mouth and drank the water to wash it down.
It was going to be another long day.
I'm hoping to get the next chapter up tomorrow. I have an early dismissal, so I should have the chance. Its already halfway done anyways.
