Well I've decided to make another chapter a little early this time lol. I felt bad for not making a chapter last week so this is to make up for that. I'm at my dad's on my laptop so I'm typing in my free time so I can just post the fucking chapter when I get to my mom's tomorrow instead of having to type it over there. And I kept thinking about this story all throughout church so yeah. And don't say I should've been listening to the preacher because he kept talking about marriage which had nothing to do with me sooooo yeah I'm only 16. Anyway, as always, please review the story and give me your feedback on this story! And answer my twitter question that asked in the last chapter! Alright, here's the chapter guys!
Ch. 28
These visions just keep coming throughout this whole operation; first with the Female Titan and then for the wires. God, I'm losing my mind! Ever since Levi left the squad on their own, my head as been throbbing in a head-killing headache. It's like something in there is trying to pound out my temple and get out.
"Robina? Hey Robina?"
I turned my head to the side.
"Huh?"
Eren looked at me with a worried look and then it became a humorous one.
"What are you thinking about?"
He asked as we rode away from the large group of soldiers. I stared at him for a second before shaking my head and giving him a soft smile.
"I-It's nothing. I think it's just a headache…."
His smile turned into a slight frown and he tilted his head.
"Are you okay? I mean, is it strong enough to make you sick?"
He said, asking if it had turned into a migraine.
"No…"
I lied. I was feeling a bit queasy at the moment but not enough to make me throw up or anything. Plus, I really don't want to get sick in front of the scouts. Eren gave me a look that said, 'I know you're lying but I'm just going to pretend that I believe you,' and nodded.
"Okay….Well anyway; what do you think that thing was? Could it have been something like the colossal Titan or just an abnormal?"
He asked me. The image of Annie instantly came into my mind. I still don't know for sure if that thing was Annie but it had her thoughts. However, I still don't trust these visions. They could just be my imagination or coincidences. Damn I wish Armin was here. He could help me figure this whole thing out….
"Well…It kind of looked like a Titan form that was similar to yours…"
I said at first. Petra and Oluo shook their heads and pointed to the path ahead.
"Don't worry about that bitch you two. We need to focus on getting farther into the forest and standing by while the Captain analyzes that damn thing."
Oluo said to us, surprisingly in a nice tone this time. He was probably still relieved that the group of soldiers, along with Commander Erwin, captured the Female Titan. I nodded my head and waved my hand at him.
"Alright, don't get your panties in a twist."
I said. He just growled at me and blushed. Haha wow….I smirked at him and then looked at Eren; he still at a face of though on his features.
"B-But I still don't get it."
He said. Petra sped up a little to meet his eyes.
"What?"
"You guys obviously weren't briefed on this mission and what would happen. Why wouldn't the commander tell the elites about this?"
He asked. Petra furrowed her brow and shook her head.
"I hope you're not implying that the Commander doesn't trust us. We're his best soldiers. There's no way he would-"
"Stop."
Petra stopped when Eld raised his hand.
"I agree with Eren on this one. The reason he didn't trust us was because he knew that there is a spy among the soldiers. If you trust the wrong person, you could die in a heartbeat. I assume that the only soldiers who knew about the plan were the ones who survived 5 years ago. I wonder if one of them was the spy who killed those two Titans we had captured…."
He trailed off. I rested my chin in the palm of my hands and shook my head.
"But did he really have to use all of those soldiers…."
I said sadly. Eld sighed deeply and lowered his head.
"Do you think the Commander was wrong in his plan?"
He asked me. I would've said yes but I thought about it before answering him.
"Well….the way I see it, he either could've sacrificed the many soldiers in the operation or risk having everyone inside the walls die from that fucking bitch….I guess his decision was the better choice but a hard one at that…"
I said finally. Eld smirked and nodded.
"Yeah. You're pretty smart for being 15, Robina. I didn't expect you to say that."
I smiled and looked away from him. It's about time that these so called 'elites' compliment me. I've been waiting a year for that one! Eld chuckled and rolled his eyes at me. I guess my current expression was really obvious….I smiled but then frowned sadly again.
"Still….That must've been a pretty difficult choice for him. He probably feels really guilty right now."
Petra sighed and shook her head.
"He's definitely feeling a lot of guilt about this right now, but you know him. He's always super cool on the outside; just like Levi is. It's hard to think how they keep calm all of the time. I wouldn't survive a week in their position."
She said with a look of admiration. I nodded in agreement and looked at the trees ahead. Their thick leaves casted a dark shadow over us as it blocked out the sunlight from above. I found myself staring at them for some reason. Maybe because green was my favorite color. Well…it might just be turquoise now; damn Eren and his beautiful irises…. I expected the leaves to rustle once in a while but they never did. The wind from outside didn't reach it I assume. Boom! I gasped at the sudden sound and Gunther shook his head smirking.
"It's just the retreat signal and thank god….I was starting to get tired of this mission…."
He said as he looked at the signal flare.
"Alright guys, let's head back."
He commanded as we turned around. I felt a little lump in my chest disappear with relief. This mission had been so exhausting, yet, I hadn't done any fighting. My heart felt like it would explode from the amount of blood it had pumped and my brain felt like it would fry from those visions. Petra gave Eren and me a smile as we headed our horses in the opposite direction.
"I hope we can see who is really inside that giant Titan."
She said excitingly. I narrowed my eyes and pointed at her.
"Hey, I thought you said we shouldn't worry about that thing!"
She gave me a smirk.
"But now the mission is basically over so we can talk about it whenever. And it's all thanks to you too. I'm really glad you guys put your faith in us. I was starting to get worried for a second there."
She giggled. Oluo couldn't help but add on to her statement.
"Yeah well, the thing that bugs me is that you two whined the whole time! Damn what have those hormones done to you? Christ!"
He yelled as if he was drunk. I couldn't help but laugh as well.
"You should be an actor Oluo; you really know how to over-exaggerate things. Besides, I remember when you and Petra peed your pants on your first expedition so you have no room to talk."
Eld laughed. Oluo and Petra blushed as Eren and I laughed under our breaths.
"Peed your pants? Seriously?"
I asked them. They didn't answer me…Boom! There it was again. We all looked up to find one of our own signal flares in the sky. I turned to Gunther and tilted my head.
"Do you think Levi fired that?"
I asked him. He thought for a moment before nodding.
"Probably…"
Was all he said. I stayed silent after that. It was kind of like everyone just wanted the peaceful silence of the forest for now. All you could hear was the soft galloping of the horses we rode and the birds in the trees. They started to sing and their tune made me smile. I hadn't heard birds sing since we Eren and me walked through the forest that one day. There was nothing better than hearing their song right after the rain stopped.
'There's something wrong. Tell him. There's something wrong. Tell him,'
Came a sudden voice in my voice. It kept repeating every few seconds and I was starting to get worried. I shook my head a few times, trying to get it out of my head. I don't think it was another vision but just a feeling. Maybe I should tell Gunther about it….I looked at his back and hesitated before I spoke.
"Uhh…Gunther…."
"Hmm?"
He replied.
"I don't know why….but I just have a bad feeling about something. Like something might happen to us…"
Eren turned to me with concern but Gunther waved me off.
"You're probably still recovering from the Titan scare. I think you're just tired. When we get back, get some rest okay?"
He said. He didn't believe me. He might have been right but the voice wouldn't stop warning me that something was about to happen. I sighed and reached for my hip, gripping my guns slightly.
'Just in case...'
I thought. Eren kept staring at me to see if I was okay but he suddenly turned his head around, looking at the forest around us. He brought his ear up to listen and that really made me grip my guns tight. If the two of us had a sense of something, it was serious. Snap! I looked at where he was looking and suddenly saw a faint figure coming towards us. Gunther saw him as well and squinted his eyes.
"Is that Levi?"
He asked. I started shaking and shook my head.
"T-That's not Levi…"
I whispered at first. My voice came out weak and spineless at first but then I found it and let out a loud yell.
"That's not Levi!"
I screamed as I pointed my gun at the dashing figure. It moved to the side quickly and slashed across our faces in an instant. I barely saw the person move to the side as he or she attacked us. I blinked a couple of times and Petra's eyes went wide.
"Gunther!"
I looked at where she was looking and saw his corpse hanging on a tree. At the same time, his blood had gone frozen in the air and suddenly splashed across my face in a second. I cursed under my breath and wiped it off.
"Go! Go! Faster!"
Eld yelled as we started to move faster. I turned to look at the intruder to see that they had been using their maneuvering gear to get to us. That explains how they reached us so fast. I couldn't take it anymore and swung my legs to the side, sitting on my horse backwards.
"Fuck this shit."
I said as I pointed my two golden guns at the killer. Their hood came up fast as if he knew what would happen next. I shot the first bullet from my hand and it shot straight at their head. They moved quickly but slowly as it barely missed them. I gritted my teeth and shot the second one. I aimed for the branch this time, trying to slow him or her down. It shot the weak twig they were about to jump on and they started to fall at the sudden break of the branch. Petra nodded as we retreated.
"Keep going Robina! Maybe we can make it back to the group if you slow him down long enough."
"Got it!"
I yelled as I shot my third shot. The person stopped and hid behind a tree at the oncoming wave of metal. My guns took about 8 bullets in each of them so I had 13 bullets left. I just hoped they were enough. If I took the time to reload, they would surely catch up to us.
"Son of a bitch!"
I yelled as I shot the fourth one. It whizzed past their leg and it seemed like it had grazed it. They touched their leg for a second but then focused on getting to us again. Hitting them was getting more and more difficult each second; the combination of them moving and the motion of the horse I was riding didn't help at all. Eren tried to give me confident words as I aimed for the person's head.
"Keep it going, Robina! You can kill him!"
He yelled as he encouraged me. I nodded and shot the fifth one; then the sixth. The two bullets aimed for the bottom and the top of the body. It would've worked if only there wasn't a giant tree that had been placed there to protect our attacker from. I found myself getting mad and thought about shooting multiple bullets at a time but that would be a waste. I couldn't be reckless this time. I needed to conserve my ammo at the amount of space we had between ourselves and the spy. I shot two bullets instead and they managed to hit one of their blades. They had brought it up in an attempt to block the coming bullets but I knew better. My ammo was crafted by myself so I knew what things they could go through. The blade was cut in half and the tip fell to the ground with a clinging sound. The hooded soldier through the blade behind their backs and brought out another one.
"One blade gone, three to go…"
I said to myself as I shot the ninth one and the person dodged it completely. My eyes went wide at the sight of their speed but I quickly regained my senses and shot the tenth one. The attack was hiding behind the safety of the trees this time and didn't try to block at all. They were intelligent enough to figure out that their blades would be ineffective in the current situation…
"Robina, try shooting through the tree! Maybe you can find a weak spot or something!"
Eren said. I nodded at his idea and scanned the trees the son of a bitch had been jumped behind. There was one that we just went past that had a few layers of bark ripped off of it. Bingo. I shot at the center of the tree and the intruder jumped behind said tree on instinct. I saw a few spot of blood fly in the air and I thought I had killed him but he appeared once again. It seemed to hit their shoulder or something like that because their legs and head seemed to be in the same condition as before I had shot my gun.
"Good idea Eren! It looks like that hit him but he's still going! Any other ideas anybody!?"
I asked as I shot another bullet. Petra shook her head.
"Other than stopping and teaming up on the bastard, no. But we have to protect Eren so that's not an option. How many bullets do you have left!?"
"I think I've got like 5 bullets left! I have ammo in my boot but it takes time to reload! We would have to rely on retreating for the next minute or so!"
I yelled. Oluo sighed deeply and nodded his head.
"Well then keep shooting kiddo! You're our only defense right now before we have to turn to sword on sword combat."
He yelled. I nodded and shot another one, my wrists starting to feel the recoil of the guns in my hands. The bullet somehow ricocheted to the corner of my target and my eyes went wide. How the hell did it do that!? I kept wondering until I saw a grey dot come out of the corner of my eye. A stone. The killer must've had thrown a stone at the exact trajectory of the metal piece.
"Oh fuck…"
I said as I shot another bullet from my right firearm. The hooded figure twirled at the same time as my firing and then jumped to the branch above them with a front flip, giving him a few more feet closer to us than what he had. I tilted my head backwards to look up at them and started getting worried with the amount of ammo I had left. The space between them and us was closing every few moments and I started to doubt my usefulness in giving us time.
"Robina don't get discouraged! Keep it up! You can do this! I have faith in you!"
Eren and Petra screamed as they led us to the Commander.
"Fuck, I'm trying but this guy's good! Damn it!"
I screamed as another bullet was dodged swiftly. 2 bullets left before reload. I laid my left gun in my lap and gripped the right one with both hands, just trying anything to get the better edge in the fight. I shot the gun after I was sure I would hit their center. They had no choice but to bring one of their blades in an attempt to block it. It, of course, broke off the top half of the blade and rendered it useless.
"Two gone…Two blades to go…"
I muttered. I growled and turned to the galloping scouts.
"I only have one bullet before I have to reload so get ready!"
I yelled as I rested my gun on my lap and took the other one in my hands. Okay….I had to make this one really count. It was the last one after all. The killer moved swiftly, side-to-side, trying to psych me out. I swung my gun at the direction their body was moving. My Dad taught me that if I shot near the middle of a side-to-side moving target, I would get the most accuracy out of that than just trying to shoot it where it was. I waited for a few seconds before firing my last and final bullet towards the middle. The hooded killer moved to the middle at the same time and suddenly flew back, hitting the ground on their back. My eyes widened and my mouth fell open. I got him….wait….No…
"Did you get him!?"
Oluo asked. It seemed like I had gotten him but his body suddenly stood up and started moving forward us again. It was like it was a robot or something. That or I had just grazed the tip of their skin or something. But that didn't seem right by the force of impact their body had taken. They would've had to take the bullet somewhere in the middle to fly back like that. But why were they still breathing!? I gritted my teeth and clicked the trigger again but nothing happened.
To my horror, I soon remembered that I had already run out of bullets a few seconds before….
And that is the end of the chapter! Did you guys like my version of that scene? I know it definitely didn't happen in the anime but this isn't the anime now is it lol.
