I'm sorry that it's been so long and that this chapter is a very short offering. I hope to add to it very soon. Enjoy. Don't forget to tell me what you think.
Chapter 30
"No one touches the Goblin King or his Queen!" The voice rang through the chamber. Or perhaps it would be better described as bypassing sound and reverberating straight into their heads, but there was no being in the hall to go with the voice.
It seemed neither male or female but there was a palpable presence in the room. The sensation was unsettling to say the least. The guards that had been rushing towards the couple faltered to a stop and their weapons turned to dust.
The chief council member collapsed back into his chair. "Who dares to interrupt this councils justice." His voice was more querulous than before.
"I represent the old ones, those who went before, the guardians of our world. Sarah Williams is under my protection and will not be harmed."
"Who are you?" The man insisted.
"I am the Labyrinth."
From the Balcony over looking the High Council Chamber the High King of the Fae and his Queen looked at each other in astonishment.
"The Old Ones have not interfered with us in a millennia." Titania whispered to her husband.
"Seems they have found someone worth interfering for." Oberon replied. "Jareth never chooses the easy way does he?"
"No he's too like his Father." She smirked back at him.
"I was left behind to watch over the Fae when the Old Ones moved on from this world, disgusted by what their children had become. I've stayed hidden in the Goblin Kingdom out of the way hoping that the fae would learn from their past." The voice continued.
"The Labyrinth is just a maze we banished the goblins to!" A council member shouted out.
"Do not doubt my power. I was left to protect those that needed it. The Goblins needed my protection as did all the other outcasts who took refuge with in my walls"
"The Labyrinth is not just a pile of rocks. I have know this for a long time." The Goblin King affirmed, "My father can attest to that knowledge."
"The old ones have taken an interest in Sarah Williams and gifted her with the powers she claimed as an equal of the Goblin King when she defeated us and earned his love, these cannot be taken from her."
"Even if you are who or what you say you are, the old ones and their minions have no say in the proceedings of this council." One of the other members on the dais piped up.
"This council exists only because the High King allowed it, the High King reigns only because we allow it. Just because we have the Fae to their own devices does not mean that we could not return and take back the magic that was originally a gift from us."
"Yes, well that's all very nice and thank you for speaking up on my behalf. But I think we are really getting off topic here." Sarah interrupted moving towards the council. "Labyrinth?"
"Yes, my Queen." The voice almost purred at Sarah.
"Thank you but I believe I can take it from here. Mr High Councillor, or whatever your title is, do you accept that Jareth had nothing to do with my Powers." she said staring straight at the man in question.
"It appears that he did not." The answer was very grudgingly given.
It seemed that there was going to be no apologies from the council and Sarah couldn't just leave it there. "Good because from what I understand you have absolutely no right to actually take any power away from me or to punish the Goblin King."
The High Councillor didn't take any notice of her comment, "Your child will be returned and you will be escorted back to your own realm."
Jareth felt the need to intervene as the room felt Sarah's anger building again along with her powers. He casually strolled over to his irate, pregnant, almost fiance and put his arms around her, and pulled her close her back to his chest. "We've won Sarah. It's time to go now." She nodded slightly and leant back into him.
Of course Thalia chose that moment to shriek again. "No she can't win! You said I would get my husbands brat! That that mortal had no chance, you promised! " Having obviously been hiding in a shadowy corner of the room she burst back into the middle of the floor as the presence of the Labyrinth faded.
Sarah didn't even hesitate, she pulled away from Jareth and stalked over to the screaming princess and punched her in the jaw. There was a satisfying thwack as flesh met flesh and then silence after the Thalia had crumpled to the floor.
Sarah walked back to Jareth shaking her hand out from the punch. "Now we can go." She said with a radiant smile on her face.
