Lost in the Forest
Chapter 7: The Minefields
As Max and Pikachu run thru the forest passing tree by tree Pikachu was wondering where Max was taking them. Max was certainly quiet about the whole thing. Every time Pikachu asked Max would just ignore him and keep on going. Pikachu didn't really trust Max that much, and who can blame him for not, he does speak english after all, and somehow knew exactly where they were. Yet again he did save him and Buneary from being blasted into bits.
Max was thinking too but was too focused getting to the correct location. He doesn't blame Pikachu for having questions, he would have questions too if he was following someone to a random area. Heck he would probably not trust anyone that keeps secrets to themselves, and Max had a lot of secrets because he doesn't like speaking about his past that much.
Max's thoughts were interrupted by a monotone voice saying, "Living things detected, must be terminated." Max rolled his eyes and thought, Can these robots say anything else? Max really got annoyed of their limited vocabulary and so wants to electric shock the person who programed these robots to only say a few lines. It wouldn't mind him too much but he has been at the forest for over a year now and he really hates hearing the same things over and over again.
Please say we're close, Max thought as they turned around a corner. Once they turned they found a blank field with no life at all, just a lot of dirt all around them. That's more like it! Max then turned around to face Pikachu who had his mouth fall agape.
"Are you ready," Max said to him.
Pikachu looked around confused and said, "Ready for what, and where are we exactly?"
Max was hesitant to tell him at first thinking he will take it the wrong way, but then he thought that he was going to find out sooner or later. He was about to say it until he was interrupted by the similar monotone voice that has been following them for the past five minutes. "Living things detected, must be terminated!"
"I'll tell you about it once we get out to the field," Max said to him while running out towards the field.
Pikachu while following Max stepped on something that feels like metal but he ignored it thinking it was a robot that was dead, but what Pikachu didn't notice is that he stepped on a metal sign that says, 'DANGER Minefield Ahead! DO NOT ENTER!'
Pikachu went up to Max and said, "What is this place exactly?" Pikachu looked around seeing that there are no trees and life at all. Just a bunch of dirt and dead grass in some areas.
"Well if you are wondering we're still in the forest." Max was trying to postpone the answer to that question for as long as possible, he knows that Pikachu might find out, but he really didn't want him to freak out because they have an injured rabbit Pokemon with them.
Pikachu didn't like this place thou, everywhere else in the forest still had a lot of trees and plant life everywhere and this place looks like in went into a drought. Pikachu then swallowed the lump that was in his throat and said, "Well yeah I can see that, but why does this place look like it was a war zone?"
Max looked around and chuckled at Pikachu's comment. "Wow you have a lot of questions. But you are kind of right, it does look like a war zone but it is not."
Max stopped his sentence being hesitant to say it, but he knew he put this off long enough and he did say he would tell him while they got out here. Max stopped and so did Pikachu, Pikachu wondered why Max stopped, but was interrupted in thought when Max took a deep breath.
"This is a minefield." Pikachu was jumped back in shock. Pikachu had a lot of things going on in his head like why they were in a place so dangerous and possibly more dangerous than the robots that are following them. Then he thought about Buneary and why Max would bring her here, she is already injured and barley could even walk.
Pikachu was about ready to ask him a lot of these concerns that he has on his mind but could only say this one question, "Why are we here?"
Then all of the sudden the robots voices sounded like they were coming closer and closer to them. Max knew they couldn't stay in this one place for any longer unless they wanted to be terminated by robots, which Max has no plans of dying by these annoying robots. "I can't say right now just watch where you are stepping because this is the place with the most mines."
Pikachu listed to Max but then pressed something with his foot after he finished his sentence. "Umm, Max."
Max looked back and saw Pikachu with a scarred face. Max sighed and said, "I told you to be careful, if we're lucky this one might be a dud." Max walked up to Pikachu and set Buneary down next to rock which woke her up.
"What's going on?" Buneary said as she looked around seeing that they were no longe surrounded by trees and instead in the middle of a big open field.
Pikachu looked at Buneary saying, "Well we hit a slight bump in the road but everything is going to be fine." Pikachu looked at Buneary with a reassuring smile, which made her smile back at him.
Max stopped looking at the mine and said, "Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news especially when you told Buneary everything is fine, but this mine is not a dud."
Both Pikachu and Buneary looked at him shocked especially Buneary. "What a MINE," Buneary screamed now really scared.
Pikachu looked at him with an angry expression on his face, "Why did you tell her that?" Pikachu clenched his fist, being really angry at Max for bringing them here in the first place.
"Oh ok let's just lie and have you die that will make her feel a lot better." Max said in a sarcastic tone.
"Well she is really sensitive about this stuff." Buneary was now sniffing thinking Pikachu is going to die, not only will she lose her chance of telling Pikachu how she feels about him, but she will be loosing the greatest friend she has ever had. By this time tears were starting to come crawling out of her eyes.
Max went up to her and put his hand on her shoulder, "Hey I won't let him die on my account you have my word." He said in a reassuring voice. She then nodded and started wiping the the tears off her face.
Max looked around to see what he could use around him to save Pikachu's life. He could replace himself with Pikachu and then tell them where to go. He was about to put his plan into motion, but Pikachu knew what was going on and said, "I know what you're thinking and I'm not going to let you do that."
"We don't have much time, you guys need to get out of here and get back to your trainers." The robots are getting closer and closer to them.
Buneary spoke next saying, "Why would you sacrifice yourself for us? I mean you only just met us yesterday."
Max sighed and said, "In all honesty I don't care if I die, because I'm pretty much dead anyways."
Pikachu and Buneary looked at him confused wondering what he meant he was already dead anyways. Does that mean that he is a zombie, but he looked just as alive as Pikachu and Buneary.
Max realized that they won't let him do that so he thought some more. That's when he realized the robots are even closer now. One of them are closer than the others which gave Max an idea.
Pikachu said, "What do …."
"Have no time to explain, but I have a plan and I need you two to trust me on this," Max said unconfidently which Pikachu picked up on.
"Why do you not sound to confident about that?" Pikachu is starting to cramp up standing still this whole time and hoping that he can get him off of the mine safely.
"Well there might be a slight chance that I will mess up and kill us all, but I need you guys to trust me." Pikachu was about to say something but saw the robot getting closer and closer, so he just nodded quickly along with Buneary.
Max then got into position and said, "Ok now wait and stay still and when I push you off go grab Buneary and run as fast as you can. I'll be right behind you."
Pikachu looked at him surprised and said, "What are you crazy they're getting closer."
Robots got closer and said the same thing as they always do, "Living things detected, must be terminated!"
Max kept his eye on the robot and said, "Wait!"
"Wait for what? Our death we might as well just explode by this mine!" Pikachu heard the robots saying "Living things detected."
"Just wait!" Max almost can reach the robot. "Must be terminated" Max reached as far as he can for the robot's leg. "Almost there."
Pikachu could tell the robot is only inches away because of it's voice. "Living things detected!"
"Max," Buneary shouted at Max getting really scared.
Max grabbed the leg and pulled it which tripped the robot over. "Got it, now run!
Pikachu ran off the button and the robot hit the button and barley missed Pikachu. Pikachu ran and grabbed Buneary which made her shriek in fear. Buneary then calmed down knowing that they ran further and further away from the robots. Pikachu ran and ran being careful enough not to step on another mine.
Max then smiled and got his bow and an arrow that has a timer on it and aimed at the robot. "Take this you annoying robots!" Max then shot and ran back towards Pikachu.
The arrow flew and landed on the robots body then the timer started counting down. Ten, nine, eight, seven, six. "Living thing detected!" Five, four, three. "Must…." Two. "Be…." One. Then the arrow exploded followed by a bigger explosion from the mine destroyed the robots surrounding that robot.
The other robots that were behind them stopped and starting scanning the area looking for the source that destroyed the other robots.
Pikachu and Buneary looked the destruction with there mouth agape. Where the mine was is now have a lot of scrap metal from the robots and a big black circle around the area. There was also some fire around the dead grass.
Max motioned for Pikachu to follow him with Buneary still on Pikachu's back. Pikachu followed going back into the trees and life.
Pikachu and Buneary are glad to be back in a area with a lot of trees and plant life. I'm not going to see an open field the same way ever again. So they kept on walking seeing the sun setting ahead.
Max decided that it should be time to set up camp somewhere. So Max looked around and saw good area that is surrounded by plants and trees. He walked over there and Pikachu followed.
"This is where we'll rest," Max said as he put his bow and quiver next to a tree and sat down on a rock.
Pikachu set Buneary down on a log and got a big rock to put Buneary's ankle on. Then he sat down next to Buneary on the sam log. "So why are we stopping? Aren't they still following us," Buneary said to Max.
"Don't worry about them it'll take them a while to get over her now that they know that's a minefield," Max said to her. Max then got up to get firewood.
The fire made crackling sounds and Pikachu, Max and Buneary got comfortable by the warm fire trying to forget about all of the problems that they ran into today. Pikachu was making sure Buneary was ok by asking her questions. Max was just looking at the two thinking they would make a good couple. Max realized that the Buneary definitely has a crush on Pikachu, and Pikachu also has feelings for Buneary, but Pikachu is just too stubborn to see it.
Pikachu while he was done seeing if Buneary is alrights thought to himself about today. There are a few questions still lingering in his mind. So Pikachu decided to break the silence and ask them.
"Why would anyone would put mines here," Pikachu said to Max.
Max was little surprised to hear this question but chuckled a bit. "Well from what I've heard is that it happened a long time ago before the robots started attacking this forest. A few humans from some evil organization called the 'Nonmons…."
"What are the 'Nonmons'," Buneary said interrupting Max. Buneary realized what she did and felt guilty. "Sorry for interrupting," she said while being embarrassed.
Max just shrugged it off and said, "It's fine you are just a little curious is all, but a Nonmon is a team of evil people who don't believe in using Pokemon to fight their battles. So they do all the work themselves."
"Wow they must be lonely."
"Yeah well they illegally put some mines all around that area of the forest so they can try out some new technology or something like that. But once the government of Sinnoh found out they shut them down but they couldn't get out all of the mines because it was too dangerous. So instead they barricaded the area with an tall electric fence with signs all over the place saying to keep out." Max was done with the story and was waiting for what they will tell him next.
Pikachu was the one who asked, "Then why wasn't there a fence when we were there?"
"Well when the robots came and attacked they destroyed all the fences, and I had to make sure all the Pokemon went around so they could get safely to the safe house." Max then saw Buneary yawn and chuckled, "Speaking of the safe house you guys need to get some rest. Tomorrow will be another long day of walking before we can get there."
Buneary was all up for that and put her head on Pikachu's shoulder and closed her eyes. Pikachu blushed at this action and really felt embarrassed having her head there but he didn't do anything because she was already peacefully sleeping.
Max went up to him and said, "You will need some sleep too, you're gonna need your full strength in the morning." Pikachu nodded and peacefully closed his eyes. But before he went deeply into sleep he realized there was still one more thing on his mind, what did Max mean he was dead already. Pikachu was already too tired to ask him so he thought, I'll ask him tomorrow. With that Pikachu fell asleep having dreams about seeing his trainer again.
Well I'm back, sorry it took so long. Again! But I've got inspiration to do this FanFic again ever sense I saw VGS2 sexy sausage promoted my FanFic on one of his/her chapters.
