This missing scene begins after then of Season 5, Episode 22 – Home…
Elena was finally alone with Jeremy. The others had stayed with them as she went back to the Boarding House, but she eventually convinced them to leave her and Jeremy alone.
She wasn't sure where Stefan and Alaric went. She had no idea where Rick would stay, now that he was back. She assumed Stefan would eventually return to the Boarding house. Really, she wasn't sure she wanted to be here if Damon wasn't, she hadn't really thought about that. She hadn't really thought about anything but Damon and Bonnie, and how she and Jeremy could get a little time away from the others.
Eventually she was able to convince them that they needed to be left alone.
Her own crying had stopped when she realized that Bonnie was gone as well, when she realized that Jeremy was going through the same thing she was. Not that it meant that she was calm, she was even more upset knowing that Bonnie was gone as well.
Still her friends had brought them to the Boarding House and tried to help them. Now that Jeremy seemed calm as they sat at a kitchen table together, she found her mind returning to Damon.
"I can't believe he lied to me," Elena said, repeating what she had said a number of times before, though she wasn't really talking to or even looking at Jeremy. She was looking at a glass of water that someone had given her when they brought her and Jeremy here and tried to calm them.
"You know that whatever happened wasn't his choice," Jeremy said. "He would be here if he could – not like Bonnie. She lied about being able to come back."
Elena did look at Jeremy now as she felt her expression soften. "I know. I'm sorry."
Jeremy shook his head. "She knew. She said she didn't want it to change our last days together, but it doesn't help."
"Bonnie got Stefan back, and Alaric," Elena said. She said it to try to comfort her brother, but found her voice breaking as she closed her eyes, shook her head and added, "everyone except herself and…"
"And she even brought Tyler back," Jeremy added.
Elena nodded and rubbed her head. She could feel the grief starting to overwhelm her again.
Jeremy may have seen it as well, since he asked, "Did you see Damon on the other side?"
Elena looked back up to him. Stefan and Alaric had told her things. Honestly, she couldn't remember if Jeremy had been with her when they said them, or even if he would have been able to process what they were saying while he was so upset himself.
"After the explosion, we went to the other side. I was by my body, but Damon wasn't there. That's when I first saw Rick." She hesitated, trying to remember. "Alaric convinced me to find Bonnie while he looked for Damon, but Damon wasn't with her either. I didn't want to come back without him, but Stefan said that he would make sure Damon got back, that he wouldn't come through without him and Bonnie grabbed me and pulled me back." She could feel the grief coming back, and took a breath to gain control.
"I trusted them," she finally added.
"Did they not find him?" Jeremy asked. His face was tense. She knew he was trying to help her through this, even when he had his own grief to deal with. She decided to play along, then do what she could for him.
"When I came through, Bonnie started having trouble, and Stefan says she fell and he was trying to help her when he accidentally came through."
She hesitated to process here feelings about that, about Stefan coming without Damon because was helping Bonnie. She hadn't thought long when Jeremy spoke again.
"Did Alaric not find Damon?"
"He says he did," Elena answered, her thoughts returning to what she had been told. "He says he found Damon trying to help Sheriff Forbes. She was under a beam at the Grill, and he was trying to get it off of her. They didn't know if she was dead or not." Elena took another calming breath and added, "Rick helped him free her, and she woke up. When they thought she would be OK, they headed back to Bonnie."
"So Damon saved the sheriff," Jeremy noted. "Does Caroline know?"
Elena shrugged. "Caroline tried to comfort me, but she couldn't do it without bad mouthing Damon."
Jeremy let out the smallest of laughs. "So she probably didn't know yet."
Elena had to smile herself. "Who knows? She's never had a problem dissing Damon no matter what he's done for her."
"Sheriff Forbes helped him so he helped her. She was his friend," Jeremy said. "He helps his friends."
"Does that make you his friend?" Elena asked.
Now Jeremy shrugged. "He helped you, protected you. I could help him as long as he did that for you. So could Bonnie."
Elena could tell that mentioning Bonnie upset him again, especially when he added, "There has to be something we can do. We can't just give up – they wouldn't."
She knew this was true. "Damon wouldn't," she said as she stared at Jeremy briefly, then added, "I can't give up, I have at least try to get to him."
Jeremy was nodding at first, then his face hardened as he said, "I may be a Hunter, but I am not killing my sister."
Elena wasn't fazed. "I'd have gone with him if they hadn't convinced me to leave him. I'd go find him now…" she cut herself off when she saw her brother's expression. "Not that way! I'll look for a different way. We may not have Bonnie, but..."
"Damon has Bonnie," Jeremy blurted.
Elena looked at her brother as she realized that it was true, "He does, and if anyone can figure out a way to get back to us, those two will."
Jeremy was nodding, though still looking a little dubious, when she added, "And we need to do what we can do here to find a way to help them."
"What can we do here?"
Elena's face hardened. "Find the witch that stopped the spell one person too soon."
"She may have stopped because she died," Jeremy said, reasonably.
"Then she's got a brother that did get back," Elena countered. "If we can't find either of them, they have a coven than didn't want to help. We'll find somebody that can do something."
Jeremy was almost smiling now. "Somebody," he repeated.
Elena was rising from the table as she added, "It's what they would do for us. It's what they have done for us. We have to do the same for them."
I bet you though I was gone. Nope.
Well, maybe I let life interfere with this a few weeks, but really – the show is doing OK with Delena on its own just now. Took them long enough…
Still, although they finally seem to have gotten their act straight, we know the show is about the constant turbulence in the Delena relationship…that boring calm is not in the plan. TVD may be back for another year or so, but a big part of the game is to mess with Delena. Really, it's a game that I am willing, and will continue, to play…
