This missing scene takes place after then end of Season 6, Episode 7: "Do You Remember the First Time?"

"Do you remember me saying something about being caught in the rain?" Elena asked Caroline as the blond entered the room. Elena had turned to look at the other vampire, but wasn't really seeing her. Elena's mind was still on Damon and Liam.

Caroline hesitated and seemed to study Elena for a minute before answering. "Hello to you, too, Elena. Do you know what happened to my mom?"

"Is she OK?" Elena asked, still staring, responding only to the words, not really thinking about what Carline was asking.

Caroline nodded. "She'll be fine."

"OK," Elena replied, then repeated her question. "So, do you remember me telling you something about being caught in the rain with Damon?" Caroline didn't answer immediately, so Elena continued, "It was just before we started college."

Caroline replied, but didn't answer the question directly. "I thought we were taking a break from the Salvatores."

Elena turned away and shook her head. "You were."

"And," Caroline began as she followed Elena to the bed she had moved to sit on, "you said you didn't feel anything for him anyway. You were going to pay attention to Liam."

Elena looked down. "I don't remember saying that - not the Liam part."

"But you do remember saving you didn't feel anything when you were with Damon," the blond vampire deduced. "You're starting a new life and all. You're happy now!"

"I'm not sure I said that either," Elena said without looking up.

"Well, you were at least on your way to being happy. Then Damon showed up and you gave him a chance, but you felt nothing. It didn't take."

Elena looked at her friend now. She couldn't read Caroline's expression, but didn't try. "I gave him another chance," she said, "and I remembered some things."

Elena could read the blonde's expression now, she was shocked.

"Why would you talk to him again?" Caroline asked, obviously not happy about it.

"Because I can't stand it!" Elena said. "I can't stand knowing than there's some part of my life this big, this important, that I can't remember...at all."

Caroline bit her lip. "You said you remembered some things."

"Just glimpses, some were about being in the rain with Damon. He said it was just before I left for college."

Caroline hesitated, so Elena asked again. "Do you remember me saying anything about it?"

Caroline finally nodded slightly. "Kind of, but I wasn't really listening." When Elena tilted her head in confusion, Caroline shrugged and added "I didn't think you two should be together. I don't know."

"You didn't approve," Elena repeated. When Caroline shook her head in agreement, Elena added, "because?"

"You know the answer to that! You remember what he's done."

"But I don't remember everything," Elena argued. "That's the problem."

"That was your choice," Caroline said quietly.

"Which you didn't try to talk me out of because you didn't approve," Elena said.

"No one approved," Caroline asserted. She was still standing near Elena, who was sitting on her bed.

Elena nodded, thinking she understood, and sighed. "Especially not Jeremy," she said, mentioning what she took as obvious since she remembered Damon trying to kill her brother. But when she looked at her friend, Caroline turned and started to walk away.

"Caroline?" Elena asked, not sure what the blond was trying to hide.

Caroline shrugged and turned back to face Elena. "Jeremy came around. Actually, he got along with Damon better than anyone else."

"He 'came around'? Even after..." Elena left the rest of the sentence unspoken.

"Yes." Caroline replied, sounding a little frustrated. "Really, we all did. Even Stefan."

"Even Stefan?" Elena repeated. "Why would me being with Damon be a big deal to Stefan? We weren't together anymore. Did he just not want his bother to be with his Ex?"

"Ex?" Caroline repeated before it hit her. "You don't remember what was going on when you got together with Damon, do you? You don't remember how much you hurt Stefan."

Elena closed her eyes, shook her head, and stated what she remembered. "Stefan and I drifted apart. It happens."

"You ripped his heart out," Caroline said. When Elena looked up, the blond was looking away from her. "We thought it was the sire bond, but..."

"The what?" Elena interrupted.

Caroline turned to look at her and hesitated. "Sire bond. Since Damon made you a vampire, some kind of icky bond was formed. You were sired to him."

Elena stared at Caroline as she repeated, "Sired."

"You had to do anything he told you to do."

"So he made me his girlfriend?" Elena asked.

Caroline shook her head, though she didn't look like she really wanted to contradict the statement. "It turned that out you really had feelings for him. That was why the bond came in the first place."

Elena looked down again as she repeated, "I really had feelings for him."

"Yeah." Caroline said shortly. "But now that they're gone..."

"Was I happy?" Elena interrupted, lifting her head to look at Caroline again.

"Does it matter?" Caroline asked. "You were happy with Matt, I was happy with Tyler. It's what you feel now that matters."

"How can I know what I feel if I don't remember?" Elena asked. "Damon said he would never have erased my memory, no matter how much pain he was in."

"And you're listening to him again." Caroline said with a little disgust in her voice. "Did the compulsion to forget wear off?"

Elena shook her head. "I tried to get rid of it. I crossed the border into Mystic Falls and..."

"Elena! That could've killed you!"

"Now who sounds like Damon?" Elena asked herself softly, before speaking to Caroline again. "Damon made sure that didn't happen. Then he brought me here and said I'm better off without him."

Elena watched Caroline carefully, but the blond didn't speak.

"So, was I happy with Damon?" Elena asked again.

Caroline just nodded and turned away.
