Meg is Alive
John said the last thing any of us expected. "You're right." I'm sure my jaw literally dropped in surprise. "Although I'm not to crazy about this new tone of yours, your right. I'm sorry." My eyes nearly popped out from the apology, nobody knew John Winchester to apologize.
"Look guys," Sammy sat up. "Visions or no visions, fact is we know the demon is coming tonight." I swung my legs over the edge of the bed and rose to my feet. "And this family's gonna go through the same hell we went though."
I narrowed my eyes and said with firm determination, "No they aren't!"
"No one is," John agreed. "Ever again."
Our conversation was put on hold when Sam's phone started to ring. Sam answered it with a "Hello?...who is this...Meg?" I looked at him startled. "Last time I saw you, you fell out a window." The only Meg I knew was the one that fell to her death from that seven story building after she tried to kill us. "Just your feelings?" From Dean and John's faces, they also recognized the name. "That was a seven story drop." Sam looked up to John. "I don't know where my dad is." Sam hesitated before handing over the phone.
John rose it to his ear. "This is John."
"Everything okay?" I asked cautiously when something Meg said caused a shift in his face.
John ignored me, to focused on his conversation with Meg. "I'm here...Caleb?" Sam and Dean were quickly made alert. "You listen to me." I was confused and worried. "He's got nothing to do with anything." I didn't know who this Caleb was but it couldn't be good news that Meg had him. "You let him go." There was a pause as John waited to hear what Meg was saying. "I don't know what you're talking about." John suddenly paled, shouting for Caleb. "I'm gonna kiss you, you know that?" It didn't take a genius to figure out what happened. John was quiet, a thinking face on that I've seen similar to my own or on Sam's or Dean's at time. "Okay." John finally said after several moments of silence. "I said okay, I'll bring you the colt." I paled, looking at him in disbelief. "I'm gonna take me about a day's drive to get there." There was a long pause. "That's impossible, I can't get there in time and I can't just carry a gun on a plane." What I would do to be able to hear both sides of the conversation. John hung up.
"So you think Meg is a demon?" Sam asked.
"Wouldn't surprise me." I said, yanking on my jacket.
"It's either that or she's possessed by one." John said, doing the same as me.
"What do we do?" Dean asked, looking towards John for instructions.
"I'm going to Lincoln." John said, already heading towards the door.
"Say what now?" I demanded. Was he saying he was going by himself? What about the three of us?
"It doesn't look like we have a choice." John explained, stopping to look at us. "If I don't go, a lot of people die, our friends die." I may not have the same connections the boys had but I felt that powerless feeling inside me again. The feeling that said I knew I could help but wasn't strong enough to stop it.
"Dad, the demon is coming tonight." Sam reminded him. "For Monica and her family." A family that had no business in the mess we called our lives. "The gun is all we got, you can't just hand it over."
"Who said anything about handing it over." John smirked.
The boys and I looked at each other confused. "Okay, who else is lost?" I sighed.
"Besides us and a couple vampires, no ones really seen the gun." John carefully explained and I realized what he was getting at. "Nobody knows what it looks like."
"So what, you're just going to pick up a ringer at a pawn shop?" Dean demanded.
"Antique store." John corrected.
"...Oh yeah, she'd never noticed." I said as sarcastically as I could.
"What, you're just going to hope Meg doesn't know she's been given a fake gun?" Dean asked.
"Look, she won't be able to tell the difference." John insisted but I wasn't convinced.
"Yeah, but for how long?" Dean asked.
I cut in, "She's going to figure it out."
"I just..." John stuttered. "I just need to buy a few hours, that's all."
"You mean for Dean, Chris, and I?" Sam demanded. "You want us to stay here and kill this demon by ourselves." That didn't sound like John to me, not wanting to be there during the massive showdown.
"No Sam." John said firmly. "I want to stop losing people we love." I thought of Brooklyn, then my mom. "I want you to go to school, I want Dean to have a home and Chris to make her own family complete with devoted husband and screaming kids." He broke off into a stutter, "I want...I want Mary alive." His face just looked so exhaustion. "I just...I just want this to be over."
"Don't we all." I whispered.
Dean and I had just reached a muddy back road in the impala where dad and Sam were waiting for us when I got a text. DEREK: What are some things your brother likes? "You get it?" John asked as we climbed in.
I sent a text back. ME: why? You nervous. Dean pulled a paper bag we'd collected from his pocket and handed it over to John. John pulled out an antique gun that would play the Colt. "You know this is a trap, don't you?" Dean asked looking worried. "That's why Meg wants you to come alone?"
My phone vibrated in my pocket, DEREK: Of course not. "I can handle her." John was insisting. "I got a whole arsenal loaded." Which pretty much meant everything in his truck. "Holy water, Mandiac, amulets."
