Chapter 37: By The Time Tomorrow Come's.
Silence fell, and Jess glanced between both Austin and Ally. The air around them felt thick, and tense. Ally bent down in front of Jess and placed Nathan in her arms. Ally brought her mouth to Jess's ear.
"Go to Wayne, and stay by him," Ally whispered. "Keep Nathan safe."
Jess nodded her head, and slowly moved towards the door. She glanced at the woman, and glared at her, then left. Ally stood up straight, and she stood in front of Austin, but she didn't look at him, instead she stared at the woman standing on the other side of the room.
"What's your name?" Ally asked.
"Nina," She replied.
"Nina...hmm," Ally glanced at Austin, who was staring right at her. "And your Austin's girlfriend, right?"
"Yeah, I've been looking for him ever since the apocalypse started. I was at work when it happened, and by the time I got home he wasn't there," She explained and she began to mess with the necklace around her neck.
"Really?" Ally narrowed her eyes at Austin, and she tilted her head to the side. "Well, you see Nina. He never mentioned you."
"And who are you?" She asked.
"His wife," She retorted, and she didn't break eye contact with Austin.
"Wife? But, he's my boyfriend, and he said he never wanted to get married!" She exclaimed, and Ally rested her hands on her hips.
"Wow...really," Ally breathed out, but her tone was dead serious. "I don't mean to be rude, Nina. But, would you leave for a bit. I need to talk to Austin for a while."
"No way, he's my boyfriend. I haven't seen him for ages! We have some catching up to do-"
"Don't even finish that sentence!" Ally snapped. "Leave!"
"No!" She shouted back, and she pulled the gun from her belt, then aimed it at Ally.
Austin finally moved for the first time, and in an instance, he pushed Ally behind him, and pulled out the gun from his belt, and aimed it back at her.
"What the hell are you doing!?" Nina yelled.
"Go..." He growled, and her hand began to shake.
"Why are you doing this?" She whimpered.
"You're crazy!" He spat. "How the hell did you find me!?"
"I don't know what your on about, stop being so mean," She cried. "I've been looking for you for over two years, and you've moved on. I thought you loved me?"
"I don't love you!" He snapped. "Never did."
"That's not true!" She stomped her foot on the ground, and she took a step closer, her gun trained on Austin.
"You need to go, now," He nodded towards the back door, and she shook her head.
"I'm not leaving without you."
"I'm not going anywhere with you," Austin said.
"I looked everywhere for you. Why didn't you come looking for me?" She questioned.
"Because, I don't tend to go looking for psychopaths!" Austin hissed, and Nina's eyes widened.
"I'M NOT A PSYCHOPATH!" She screeched.
Ally looked over and she saw Sarah standing in the doorway. She looked between the three of them, and she stepped into the room. Nina looked over at her, and she turned around, aiming her gun at Sarah.
Ally pulled the gun from her belt, and pushed Austin out of her way. She walked right up behind Nina and pressed the gun to the back of her head.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you," Ally growled.
Sarah stood there helpless, and her hand rested on her stomach. Dean walked around the corner and walked into Sarah's back. He wrapped his arm around her waist to stop her from falling forward, then he observed the scene he froze.
"Who the fuck are you?" Dean asked. His only thought was Sarah. He stepped in front of her, keeping her out of danger.
"I'm Austin's girlfriend!" She chirped, and smirked at him.
"No your not!" Ally shouted, and without thinking she swung her gun into her head. Nina fell to the floor unconscious, and Ally stared down at her body.
Silence fell again, and Ally's chest heaved for air. She felt like the walls were closing in on her. She glanced up at the white ceiling, then sighed.
"Can you get her out of here. Lock her in one of the rooms," Ally dictated, and Dean walked over, and wrapped Nina's arm over his shoulder, and dragged her form from the room. Sarah nodded her head in thanks at Ally, then she shut the door behind her.
Ally dropped the gun, and it clattered on the ground. She slowly turned around, and glanced at Austin. He was staring right at her, an unreadable expression on his face. She walked closer, every step echoing around the room. She stopped a few centimeter's away from him, and looked into his eyes. Austin opened his mouth to say something, but Ally smacked him hard across the face. She growled at him, and he turned his head back to look at her.
"Two wives and a girlfriend, are you fuckin' kidding me!?" She screamed at him, making sure to get into his face. Austin just stared back at her blankly. "No more secrets, huh?" She pushed his chest, but he didn't budge. "This is like Cassidy all over again!"
Austin didn't say anything back. He just stood there, tall, looking into her eyes. Ally could feel her whole body rippling in anger. She wanted to lunge at him, and hit him over and over again, but she couldn't do that to him. She already felt bad for slapping him.
"Why aren't you saying anything!?" She cried out, and a sob tore from her lips. "Do you not care? Why don't you just go to Nina, go back to her. I'm sure she'll love to catch up with you-"
"SHUT UP!" His voice boomed over Ally's, and she froze. "You really think I give a fuck about her!?"
"Well, obviously you do, because you've been mute for the past ten minutes!" Ally hissed.
"All you've been doing is shouting! How about you give me a chance to explain-"
"Explain? Oh, because that worked out so well with Cassidy, didn't it?" She sarcastically remarked.
"Ally-"
"Our son has just woken up, and he's alive. That should be our main priority right now, but right now, this," She gestured between their bodies. "Is not my number one priority at the moment."
Ally turned on her heel, and walked away. Austin reached out and grabbed her arm, turning her around to face him.
"What are you saying?" He demanded.
"I'm saying I'm done," She whimpered, and tears began to fall from her eyes.
"Ally, you can't be serious-"
"Cassidy...now Nina," She whispered. "Austin, I can't do this anymore."
"No no no no, Ally look at me," He grabbed her wrist and placed her hand on his chest, bringing her closer to his face. "Please, don't do this..."
"Austin, how would you feel if it was the other way around...how would you like it if you found out I was actually married to someone else, or how about if you found out that I actually had a boyfriend. Because I know you Austin, you'd be pissed off...heck you'd be more than just pissed off, you'd kill the guy, but what, because I'm Ally that shouldn't matter? No secret's remember?"
"Ally, I love you," He cupped the side of her face, and Ally could feel his heart pounding beneath her palm.
"And I love you too, but I think we need to take a break. We need to focus on Nathan," She whispered, and she stepped closer to him, then kissed him gently on the lips. Austin's hands went into her hair, and he kissed her more aggressively. Ally placed her hands on his chest, and pushed herself away from him. She glanced into his eyes, and saw them sparkle, tears threatening to spill from them.
She took a few steps backwards, and she finally looked away from him, swallowing the lump in the back of her throat. She opened the door, and she glanced back at him. A weak smile appeared on her face, and she left the room.
...
"Mommy," Jess ran over, and she wrapped her arms around Ally's legs. Ally smiled, and she picked Jess up. She saw Wayne had Nathan in his arms, and Cal was checking him over. She glanced over at the gate, and saw Jaime watching the scenery closely.
Ally made her way over, and quietly stood next to her. Jaime glanced over at her, and it didn't take her even a second to work out something was wrong.
"What is it?" Jaime asked, and Ally glanced at Jess.
"Why don't you go and find Nevil," Ally suggested, and Jess nodded her head, then got down from her arms, and left. "Austin and I are having some time apart."
"Does this have anything to do with the screaming bitch that's in the garage over there," Jaime pointed over her shoulder, and Ally nodded her head. "Do you want me to beat her ass?"
"No," Ally smiled. "No, she should be leaving soon."
"Good," Jaime replied. "I don't like her that much, and if she decides to kick up a fuss, I'll kick her ass to the ground."
"Thanks...for you know being here for me, even if you are threatening to beat people up for me," Ally smiled at her through her fresh tears, and Jaime nodded at her.
"We're family," Jaime responded.
"Jaime!" Gregory called her name, and she cringed, looking over her shoulder at him.
"What?" She whined.
"Come away from the fence," He demanded.
"No," She groaned.
"You've been there all day, now come and eat something," He grabbed her arm, and Jaime tried to pull away, but Gregory started to pull her along behind him.
Ally watched them go, and she smiled to herself, then sighed. Her head fell, and she stared at her feet.
"How are you feeling?" Grace walked up next to her, and Grace gasped when she saw her tears. "What's wrong?"
"Austin, and I had a fight," She explained.
"Oh, sweetie, what happened?" She placed a hand on her arm, and Ally shrugged her shoulders.
"Apparently he has a girlfriend."
"Oh," She gasped.
"Maybe I overreacted, didn't really give him a chance to explain himself, but all I could think about was the situation with Cassidy, and every red light was going off in my head, and I freaked out," Ally wiped her tears away, and Grace turned her around to face her, then pulled her into her embrace.
Ally cried into her shoulder, and Grace rubbed her hands up and down Ally's back, in an attempt to sooth her.
"Ally, it will be alright," Grace assured her. "I think you both need some time apart. It should do you both some good."
"I hope so, I don't want to lose him. It's just sometimes, I wanna hit him over and over again, because he's hurt me."
"Don't worry sweetheart, I think you need some rest, and get your head clear," Ally pulled away and smiled at her.
"Thank you," Ally wiped her tears away, and Grace returned her smile.
"Anytime," Grace walked off, and Ally looked over at a creeper stumbling around outside the fence.
Ally felt someone standing nearby, and she shivered. "Go away."
"We need to talk," Austin said, firmly.
"No we don't," Ally replied. "Just leave me alone."
"You didn't even give me a chance to explain," He stepped closer, and she turned to face him.
"Were you with her before the apocalypse?" She asked, and he nodded. "On the day the world went to shit, were you with her?" He nodded again, and Ally laughed. "Leave me alone."
"Ally, just let me explain," He demanded.
"Do you have a thing for being with psychopaths, because I swear to god you're about to turn me into one," She turned away from him, and he reached out and grabbed her arm. She roughly pulled her arm out of his hold, then narrowed her eyes at him.
"I want to get some sleep," She whispered. "I just want you to leave me alone."
...
Nathan was against Ally's chest, Jess, Nevil and Billy were next to her, all of them fast asleep, but Ally couldn't fall asleep. Her mind was running with a million thoughts, and all she could think about was Austin. She'd realized that the reason why she couldn't sleep was because she wasn't wrapped around Austin, she wasn't listening to his heartbeat, and it was killing her inside. She needed him, but there was a voice in the back of her head screaming at her to stay away from him.
Wayne walked into the room, and he looked over at her. She flashed him a weak smile, and the candle light flickered off her skin. She glanced down at Nathan, and kissed him gently on the side of his head. Wayne came over, and crouched down in front of her.
"Do you want me to take him?" He whispered, and Ally nodded her head. Wayne took Nathan, and Ally got to her feet. Wayne took Ally's place on the floor, and rested Nathan on his chest. "Go get some fresh air."
Ally nodded her head, and she walked out of the room, then down the dark corridor. She made it outside the hospital, and out into the night air. She exhaled, and made her way over to one of the trucks. She jumped up into the back of the truck, and crouched down in front of one of the boxes, then pulled out a bottle of water, and took a sip.
A crashing sound made her jump, and she looked over her shoulder. Austin came marching out of one of the doors, and Ally shrunk back into the shadows to watch. Jaime came out behind him, her hands clenched into fists, her face bright red in anger.
"Are you fuckin' kidding me!?" Jaime shouted at him, and Austin growled back at her. "You have a girlfriend?"
"Stay out of my business!" He snapped.
"No, she's my cousin, therefore it's my business!" She snapped back, and Austin stepped closer, getting in her face.
"This has nothing to do with you!" He shouted in her face, and she smirked.
"You really need to fix this Austin, and I might just help you out."
"What?"
Ally continued to watch in the shadows, as Austin and Jaime's voices went quiet as they whispered to one another. Ally could see the anger evident on Jaime's face, and Austin flinched every time Jaime said something horrible towards him.
Then they both froze, and Austin nodded his head at Jaime. She grinned widely and turned on her heel and walked inside the hospital.
Ally panicked incase Jaime was heading inside to go and get her, but she kept herself hidden in the shadows. She watched Austin run a hand through his hair, then rub his face. She could see he was exhausted and he was terribly sleep deprived, and she felt for him, she really did, but there was a voice in the back of her head that was telling her he deserved it.
Maybe she should have given him a chance to explain. She glanced down at the ring on her finger and she sighed. She deserved and explanation. Ally was about to step out of the shadows, but the door flung open again and Jaime came storming out, dragging Nina along by the scruff of her collar. Jaime tossed her to the ground and pulled out her gun, aiming it at her head. Ally's hand flew to her mouth and she watched Austin closely.
"Austin wants to talk to you," Jaime said, her voice firm, and it was clear she wasn't going to take any shit from Nina.
"Have you finally come to your senses?" Nina asked and a smile appeared on her face.
"You need to leave," Austin stated and Nina laughed.
"Why?"
"You wanna know why? Maybe because you and I both know that the relationship we had before the world went to shit, was a joke...I didn't love you, heck I didn't even like you through most of it. I knew you were off having sex with other guys behind my back, and I was off having sex with other girls behind your back. Like I said it was a joke...but you actually think you can just come back into my life, and ruin my relationship, with my WIFE! You mean nothing to me...absolutely nothing! Did you actually think I'd want you back? You don't get to do that...now leave!"
"Or?" Nina smirked.
"Otherwise I'm going to blow your brains out," Jaime growled, and fear flashed across Nina's face for a second, but she soon masked it with another smirk.
"I don't really understand what you see in her? Ally's not exactly pretty, I guess she really must be a hellcat in the sack," Nina laughed, and Austin lunged forward, grabbing her around the throat. Ally gasped and her eyes filled with tears. The person she was looking at was no longer the man she loved.
"I swear I'm giving you one more fuckin' chance," Austin growled. "Leave, or die."
"You don't have the guts to kill me!" She snapped at Jaime and Austin spared Nina one last look, then he nodded at Jaime.
Ally eyes widened and she ran out of the shadows.
"Stop!" She shouted and they all turned to look at her.
"Ally-"
"Is this who we are now?" Ally spoke over Austin, and she stepped closer to the three of them.
"Ally, she's only going to cause us trouble," Jaime said and Nina laughed.
"But, who the hell gave us a right to decide a persons fate, and this would be in cold blood."
"We've all killed people in cold blood," Jaime stated. "There's no laws against it anymore, she's messing with the wrong people."
"I'm messing with the wrong people!" Nina chuckled, loudly. "You guys don't scare me. I've just come to take what's mine."
Ally glanced at Austin, and she sighed. Ally would fight her, she would stand up for herself, but she was exhausted. She wanted to go to sleep, but she couldn't, because she needed Austin.
Austin stared back at her, and he knew that he needed to fix this, for the sake of his family, and because Ally deserved it. They'd both been through way too much, and all he wanted was to make her happy. But things kept getting in the way, and stopping it from happening.
"I think it's about time you realized that he's mine," Nina said. "You're a worthless piece of shit, and the only reason why Austin is with you, is because I wasn't around, and he had limited options..." Nina carried on insulting Ally, but what she didn't realize was Jaime had pulled her silencer from her belt, and she attached it to the end of her gun. She was doing this, so when she fired the bullet, it wouldn't make a sound and wake everyone up. "I mean look at you, then look at me. You can clearly see who's better looking, and who can provide Austin with what he needs in the bedroom-"
Jaime pulled the trigger, and the gun made a sound that resembled the noise an elastic band made, when pulled, then released. Ally watched Nina's body fall forward, and blood poured from her head. Ally glanced at Jaime.
"I'm not even sorry," Jaime mumbled. "She's just one less problem to deal with in the morning...I'll get rid of her body," Jaime walked up to Nina's lifeless body, and she slung her over her shoulder, then walked off into the shadows. Ally blinked back her tears, and she looked back at Austin.
"Where's Nathan?" Austin asked.
"He's with Wayne," Ally said.
A heavy silence fell around them, and Ally felt like the whole world was closing in on her. She didn't know what to say to him. She was too tired, and she didn't want to forgive him now just because she was tired, then in the morning, go back to hating him again.
Austin took a step closer to her, and she shook her head.
"I'm going to stay out here, and keep a look out. You should get some sleep," Ally slipped her hands into her back pockets, and Austin nodded his head.
"Okay," He whispered, and he gave her one lost longing look, then walked inside the hospital.
Ally sighed, then she released the sob she'd been holding back. Her hands flew to her mouth to muffle her sobs, and whimpers. Her tears burned her eyes, and they left a hot red trail down her cheeks. She felt her chest tighten, and her knee's were weak and wobbly. She collapsed onto the ground, and let her emotion's take over.
She promised to herself that tomorrow. When the sun began to rise, she'd stop crying, and she'd be stronger. Ally would think about her kids, and only them. She would give her and Austin some time apart, then they would sit down and talk, like adults.
She was strong. She wasn't weak. And she was going to be even stronger by the time tomorrow come's.
