Chapter 46: Bitten.

Austin placed Nathan down into his crib, and wrapped the blanket around his sleeping body. Nevil and Jess were both asleep, and Billy was sleeping at the other end of Nevil's bed. Austin shut the door quietly behind him, and stepped into his bedroom. He looked around, and realized Ally wasn't inside. She'd been talking to Wayne for a while.

He walked out of his bedroom, then out of the cabin. It was late into the night, and he could see Frederick asleep on the rocking chair on the porch to the farmhouse. He looked around to see if he could spot Wayne, but he couldn't see him.

He walked down the steps, and headed towards Wayne's cabin. He banged on the door, and Harriet answered, rubbing her tired eyes.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

"Is Wayne here?" Harriet nodded her head, and Wayne walked out of the bedroom. "Where is she?"

"Who?" Wayne cleared his tired throat, and walked over to the door.

"Ally. She said she was going to come and find you," He explained.

"When?"

"Hours ago. She hasn't come back," Panic flooded his tone, and Wayne grabbed his hat from the table, and put it on his head. "She never came to you, did she?" He shook his head. "W-Where is she!"

"Calm down," Wayne placed a hand on his shoulder. "We'll find her."

"I'll wake Lizzy up, and we'll go over and watch the kids," Harriet said, and she disappeared into Lizzy's room.

The metal door slammed shut when he left the room, and Ally's eyes landed on Jaime. Her whole body was trembling, and Ally could see she was struggling to stand. Jaime cried out, and fell to the floor. Ally ran forwards, and sat down opposite her. She had never seen Jaime this way, she'd never seen her look so broken.

"W-What happened?" Ally asked.

"They w-won't l-let m-me see him," She whimpered, and Ally pulled her into her lap like a child.

"Who?"

"Gregory!" She cried. "They won't let me see him!"

"Jaime!" Ally cupped her cheeks. "I need you to calm down, and tell me what happened."

"I-I told you about these people. The cannibals…I can't do this again…I can't!" She cried, and Ally wiped her tears away. "They shot him…he stepped in front of the bullet that was meant for me…they won't let me see him!"

"Shh," Ally stroked the side of her face. "We're going to get out of here."

Suddenly, the smell of burning flesh filled the room, and both of their eyes widened. "They're cooking someone," Jaime croaked.

Ally felt a wave a nausea wash over her, and she ran over to the corner of the room, and threw up. She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, then looked back at Jaime's broken form.

"He won't let me go," She sobbed. "He keeps calling me his wife…I want to see Gregory…and my dad…"

"Listen to me," Ally crouched down in front of her. "We're going to get out of here, and we're going to find Gregory."

Ally watched the normal Jaime flash in her eyes for a second, but she soon returned into her shell. She looked Ally up and down, then sighed.

"You're pregnant."

"What!" Ally squeaked. "No…no, I'm not-"

"That's not the first time you've thrown up over the past few weeks, is it?" She asked, and Ally's eyes widened. "Thought so…I'm not going to let you put your life at risk for me. I escaped here once, and I'll do it again."

"I'm not leaving you here," Ally pulled her to her feet, and stared at her with fire in her eyes. "We're going to get out of here, I promise."

Austin narrowed his eyes at Kira. She stood there talking to them both about some camp that was nearby, and she knew that some crazy guys lived there, because people in her old group used to talk about them.

"Are you sure?" Wayne asked, and Kira nodded her head.

"Jaime mentioned cannibals once," She looked at Wayne with cautious eyes. "I know that Ally found a half-eaten arm out in the woods. It make sense that the crazy guys near here would have done that."

"Are you trying to tell me that my wife has been taking by cannibals!?" Austin yelled at her, and she nodded her head.

"For all we know, Jaime and Gregory could be there too," Kira mumbled. "I'm just trying to be logical about the whole thing."

"Okay, we'll head there now. Kira don't tell anyone where we're until the sun comes up, hopefully we'll be back before then, c'mon Austin," Wayne slipped his gun into his holster, and Austin reluctantly followed Wayne out of the cabin.

He didn't want to believe what he was hearing. He didn't like the thought of his Ally being taken by a group of cannibals. He didn't like it one bit.

They walked over to one of the trucks, and Wayne pulled out a map. "There should be a gravel road we can take through the woods, and it will take us right there."

Austin nodded his head, and got into the truck. Wayne drove off, and they disappeared into the woods. The further they went the darker, and darker it got. Wayne had to turn off the headlights, so they didn't draw attention to themselves, and it was getting harder to see what was out in front of them.

He felt his heart thundering in his chest, and he hated how this seemed to be a regular occurrence. He wished he could keep her safe, just for once.

"We'll get her back," Wayne spoke up from the driver's seat, and Austin glanced over at him.

"I know she's your niece, but how are you not worrying about your daughter," Austin growled, and Wayne didn't even flinch.

"Because, I know she can handle herself out there, and it's not like we aren't looking for her. Also, Kira said there's a possibility that they could be there with Ally, so I'm holding onto that hope," Wayne explained.

"Ally can handle herself out there," Austin growled.

"I know that, but she hasn't been gone for so long, and we have more of a chance of getting her back if she is there," Wayne said. "And if she is there Austin, please don't do anything stupid. We need to think rationally about all of this, okay?"

"Whatever," He grumbled.

Ally yanked the metal rod off the wall, and handed it to Jaime, then she grabbed the sharpened chair leg. She gave Jaime a nod, then pushed open the metal door. They were greeted by a corridor of darkness, and the smell of burning flesh. Ally pushed the nausea to the back of her throat, and led the way down the corridor.

There were so many doors, but they didn't have enough time to check all of them. They needed to think carefully about the whole situation, and they just had to hope that the burning flesh they were smelling doesn't belong to Gregory.

Ally felt Jaime grab her wrist, and she pulled her along. They tiptoed carefully around the corner, and dim lights lit up another corridor. Groaning filled their ears, but it didn't sound as broken as a creepers groan. Ally quietly walked over to the door, and pressed her ear up against it.

A deep voice groaned, then hissed on the other side. Ally gently turned the door knob, and pushed the door open, so there was enough room for her head to fit through. She poked her head through the gap and looked around.

"Gregory," She whispered, then a groan responded. "Will you knock on the floor, just so we know you're not a creeper," Two knocks followed after, and Ally gestured for Jaime to follow her inside.

They stepped into the room of darkness, and Ally spotted Gregory's slumped form in the corner. They both raced over, and Ally saw the poorly stitched gunshot wound on his chest. His body was covered in a sheet of sweat, and his skin was ghostly pale.

"Gregory," Jaime whimpered. "We need to get him out of here."

"Are you going to be okay to support his weight?" Ally asked her, and Jaime nodded her head. "Okay, c'mon."

They both pulled Gregory to his feet, and wrapped an arm across their shoulders. His head bobbed whilst he drifted in and out of consciousness. Ally knew they didn't have long, and they needed to get him back to the farm.

They walked out of the room, and Ally remembered the way out from here, and they walked further down the corridor. They walked as quietly as they could, and they tried to be careful not to hurt Gregory's wound.

Ally saw the double doors up ahead, and her heart began to race in her chest. They walked quicker, and Ally nudged the door open with her foot. They stepped out into the night air, and they froze when they saw Wayne and Austin getting out of a truck.

Austin's eyes widened when he saw her, and they hurried over. Wayne and Austin helped get Gregory in the backseat, then Wayne reached over and pulled Jaime into his arms. Austin grabbed Ally's arm, and pulled her against his chest. She wrapped her arms around his waist, and he wrapped his around her body, then kissed the top of her head.

Ally felt something twist in her stomach, something wasn't right. It was never that easy-

BANG!

Ally jumped and looked over her shoulder to see Wayne falling to the ground with a bullet wound in the middle of his chest.

"NO!" Ally screamed, and Jaime fell to the ground with her dad's lifeless body.

"DAD!" She screeched, and Austin pulled off his jacket, then placed it on his wound. "Is he breathing!?" Austin placed his fingers against Wayne's neck, and he paused for a few seconds.

"We need to get him back!" He snapped.

Ally scurried to her feet. She knew something was wrong the moment she stood up. It was like everything around her had slowed down. Austin turned his head to look back at her, and every emotion wiped away from his face, then before he could move a muscle…

She felt the teeth slam down into the crook of her neck.

"NOOOO!"
