[Izaya's POV]
Ugh, why do I have to go back so soon? Izaya complained in his head, hands in his pockets and each wrapped around a flick-blade as he made his way to Shiki's office. Their headquarters had moved again, this time to an even shadier part of town, and of course that meant an early evaluation for him and a couple others.
Despite being used to this, it being routine by now, he couldn't help feeling nervous. He'd already ticked off his boss quite a few times within the last two months and had no idea if that would affect what happened today or not. Sure, he'd tried to change his job and all but it wasn't like he had asked to quit. Shiki couldn't drag him back into staying at headquarters over just that, could he? Well.. He could if he wanted to.
I just really hope he doesn't want to.
The informant sighed as he finally got to his destination, looking over the building and noticing it blended in almost perfectly with the other business offices around. It wasn't flashy but it also didn't look run down and the only thing that made it different was that there weren't as many vehicles parked out front as there had been in the surrounding buildings. Nice choice.
He went inside and asked someone where to go before finding his own way instead. Izaya was even used to being ignored by the people here by now, most of them just being rude and others being suspicious of him the moment he walked in the door. It took right up until his appointed time for him to find the door and be given permission to go inside, how quickly he was shoved in making him gulp down some anxiety.
If the guards were antsy about letting anyone in, especially him since these were the same guys that had seen him last time, then that could only mean Shiki was already in a bad mood. Where's Shinnosu when you need him? he inwardly groaned, glancing around at the rest of the guards that were currently stationed in Shiki's office. More than last time by about 5 men, Izaya noticed.
He put on his best smirk and walked walked forward before waiting for him to be addressed. Even Izaya knew better than to start taking like he owned the place at his own evaluation. Agonizing minutes passed by as Shiki ignored him, but it was only about ten minutes after he walked in that the man looked up at him with a scowl and gestured for him to sit down, which he obeyed.
"Orihara. If there's anything good about you to say, it's that you're punctual." Shiki huffed, leaning down to grab something out of his desk. Yup, he's in a bad mood.. Izaya waited patiently as a file was taken out, quite a large one, and set onto the desk. Shiki just flipped through it without looking at most of the pages before stopping on one and reading through it. "A bad thing to say about you is that you've been taking too damn long on your assignments. Just doing three of them well could take you a week before, now you need at least two to get them done half-assed." his boss remarked, looking up at him like he expected an excuse. One Izaya wasn't stupid enough to give.
"I'm well aware of the time it's been taking me. My schedule hasn't been as flexible as before, as you know, but if need be I'll start putting twice as much effort." Izaya offered, calculating in his head just how much that would mean before he'd said it. Kasuka likes watching me work and I can still talk to him while I'm gathering most information that we need, so that isn't a problem. I might start getting less sleep but I'd still be getting more than when I was a student so that shouldn't be much of a big deal either.. I can handle it. Even if he couldn't, it was try or have his boss to deal with.
Shiki watched him for a second before moving on, looking through the papers again. "Since the summer you've gotten us almost over 2 million dollars and counting, a fourth of that coming just from your own assignments without me telling you..." his boss listed off, muttering a couple numbers under his breath as he did more calculations. Izaya had noticed a while ago that while they did have their own people to do calculations like these, those same numbers probably being right on that paper for him to read as well and make himself look smarter, Shiki liked to keep talking as long as it made himself look better. When he was done with his muttering he scowled, looking up at the informant before him again. "If your share is any less than that by the time I check up on you again in Spring, that hobby and all it entails is going to be off limits. Permanently." the Yakuza boss warned, Izaya trying his best to not take the threat too seriously.
Both Shiki and Izaya knew what consequences there could be on his work ethic if something like taking away his entire social life in a second actually happened, the results being a lot less than productive in Shiki's sake. If the man did actually take away his hobby, along with his boyfriend, then it would have to be over a much larger loss than just a couple grand, making any threats he was given a lot more manageable.
Still, Izaya suppressed a shiver as he nodded his understanding. Shiki closing the file and dropping it back into his desk absently before the informant glanced around the room again, feeling better now that the actual evaluation was over.
"Would you mind me asking why there are so many guards in here?" Izaya asked finally, since he hadn't been given the signal to leave yet and it was painfully quiet in the room. Shiki glanced at him with a raised brow like he hadn't expected to be asked before lighting a cigar for himself and taking a drag.
"Doesn't matter if I mind, it's none of your fucking business. Besides, you should be able to guess since we just had a move. Now get the fuck out of my sight." Shiki ordered, turning away from him in his chair as the informant did just that. Once he was out of the building he breathed another sigh of relief, almost relaxing enough to call up his boyfriend right then and ask if they could go on a date tonight. But then he reminded himself that he would probably have another 4 assignments waiting in his inbox for him the minute he got home, just adding to the ones he still needed to finish. If I'm going to blow off work, it's not gonna be the day of. Sorry Kasu-kun. he thought to himself, resigning his entire night to work and finally heading to bed at around midnight, sending Kasuka the first and last text of the night. [Goodnight.]
Chapter 66!
Again, these two are still getting a nice break but not everything is rainbows and sunshine even then.
So, we have back our favorite, workaholic!Izaya~ And possibly we could get back a needy and worried Kasuka.
Who wouldn't worry when their boyfriend only texts them once a day at midnight?
It screams trouble when you're those two.
Anyways, you guys can still request for me to do stuff. I haven't had anyone suggest something for a while now and it's hard to keep thinking of a timeline for stuff with no inspiration. I can continue writing obviously, but it would have a lot more chapters like this one than necessary and I don't want to do that to you guys, giving like 3 chapters of filler in a row.
Any suggestion works, I can think of a way to incorporate almost anything given enough brain-power, I just need to know where to start!
I hope you all liked this chapter! Favorite, follow and review to see more!
