[Izaya's POV]
This is a bad idea... This is an awful idea, how did I ever let Kasuka talk me into this? The informant inwardly lectured, chancing another glance up at his 'house guest' for about the 15th time that day.
Shizuo had only been in his house for an hour and already he could feel it weighing on him.
The two were continuously checking on each other; Shizuo to make sure nothing was going on out of his immediate field of vision and Izaya to make sure that the beast wasn't about to break something, or break him for whatever reason; and they would keep glancing whenever the other looked away, just giving both of them the impression that they were being watched.
I guess it's better to have him watching me than some freak from work but... This is just unnatural.
Izaya held in yet another sigh as he looked up from his laptop, this time looking over at his assistant with irritation, wishing she would say something about now. Namie had been awfully quiet ever since she came in this morning and looked over to Izaya's couch, spotting a debt collector settled there with his arms crossed. And why was she quiet? Of course. It was to tick off her employer even more.
Every time he looked at her she had this grin on her face, like she just knew that he wasn't going to be the one to start a conversation or even make a comment while the beast was there to hear him, just waiting for an excuse to leave while he was supposed to be on duty for this ridiculous task of his.
Kasuka, as much as I love you, I'm going to kill you if we don't find a new bodyguard within the next couple days..
The informant's home and place of work continued with this silence until almost noon, now marking three hours of the beast being in his home with said informant now feeling trapped in it. Anything, anything, anything. Say anything. C'mon Namie, you can always read my mind, do it NOW!
"I'm gonna grab some lunch. Either of you want anything?"
Anything but THAT, NAMIE!
"Otooro." "Milkshake."
The two finally made eye contact for the first time that morning as they spoke at the same time, neither seeming too amused. Namie just cast a glance between them before grinning again, looking like she wanted to say something but leaving them in silence once more anyways. The hate-filled staring contest continued for a few minutes.
Shizuo finally turned his head to look back at the TV, it currently playing some show that neither of them were really interested in and it being background noise now, and Izaya looked back down at his work, hoping he would find something interesting enough in his research to distract him from the silence once again suffocating them. Sadly, everything was slow that day.
No one had any information he needed or any that would help him in a side task either if he got too bored with this assignment to continue it for the moment. Not a single bone was being thrown to him, at all, not even a hint of one. Ugh.. Humans, why have you been failing me?
"You're gonna die."
Izaya's head shot up from his laptop at the sudden voice, it taking him a minute to realize Shizuo had finally decided to speak to him. It took him another moment to realize what he'd just said. "And why is that?" the informant asked, mentally hitting himself over the head when he realized he actually sounded curious.
Great. I lose interest in my humans, they give me worthless or no information and now I sound civil with the village idiot! What else can life take away from me? he internally hissed, having to focus again when the blond spoke up.
"All you eat is that shitty sushi."
"Simon would cry if he heard you say that. Or he'd punch you~" Izaya said automatically, cheering up a bit when he realized he didn't even need to think when it came to his and Shizuo's banter.
"It's only shitty when it's you eating it, flea!"
"He'd still be mad~ Go ahead and keep saying it while I invite him over, it's quite rare to see someone sock you in the face."
"Shut the fuck up and get back to work! I'm only here so you don't get yourself killed or something."
"Aww.. It was so much more entertaining when I thought you cared about my well-being, ne~"
"Don't you fuckin' 'ne~' me, louse!"
Izaya held in a bout of laughter, actually having to cover his mouth to do so when Shizuo stood up to yell at him, hands grasping at air as he visibly held back from throwing Izaya's couch at it's owner. The debt collector was seething where he stood as the informant watched, his usual smirk back where it belonged.
"It's been a while since you've been so worked up, Shizu-chan. I haven't heard you call me "louse" in months!" Izaya snickered, casually looking back down at his laptop as he typed away, responding to an email that he'd been getting around to for the last couple hours. He was finally in a good enough mood again to honestly tell Shinnosu that 'no, I'm not dead', 'yes, everything's fine', and 'yes, me and Kasuka are still together just fine as well'.
It was suspiciously quiet in front of him besides the air practically crackling from the center of the room, caused by Shizuo's effort to do whatever it is he does when unable to follow his instincts, and Izaya looked up just in time to see him pick up a video game case, ready to break it in half. The informant jumped up without thinking, snatching it out of the beast's hands. "Stop, that's a gift!" Izaya commanded, surprising himself as Shizuo paused, burning a glare into his skull as the blond processed how Izaya had shown up in front of him so suddenly.
"From fuckin' who?" Like it matters to you who gave it to me. Izaya grumbled inwardly, glancing at what was in his hands to remind himself why he'd stopped the beast in the first place.
"Kasu-kun gave it to me..." Izaya finally murmured, going back to his desk when a blush came to his face. He sat down again, shoving himself into his work once more as Shizuo continued to watch him. Stop judging me. I have a right to care about my own boyfriend and the whatever he gives me, you over-protective, idiotic proto-
"Alright. Sorry.."
Izaya's head snapped up again, this time to see Shizuo dropping back down onto his couch, all anger from a moment ago gone. What the hell..?
The informant stared at his bodyguard for a while, desperately trying to understand just how the blond worked until Namie finally came back with their promised snacks. Izaya buried himself in his work again and Shizuo continued to idly wait for anyone to need his help, the room now lapsing into another, now more comfortable, silence.
Chapter 81!
AC please stop being broken... You're breaking my muse..
But at least I got something out to you guys!
I really wanted to write Shizuo and Izaya hanging out for a while now, especially when they have to get along, so I hope this is all fine. I really don't want to double check this at the moment, it's 8 pm and the heat is still killing me.
I'll do a check on this and the last couple chapters tomorrow morning, for now lemme know what you guys think of Shizuo starting to see how much Izaya really does like Kasuka~
Cause for the longest time now, all I've portrayed him as is not believing that Izaya is capable of loving anyone/anything.
I hope you all liked this chapter! Favorite, follow and review to see more!
