I've seen stories where Jack loses his sight and I thought, hey what if another character lost their sight like Jamie and this story was born. There will be more chapters to this. Enjoy and Review.
Jamie crawled across his bedroom floor to the cracked door, intent to get to Sophie, who was crying in fear in her own room. Their mother had called and told him that she had to work late and that she had called for a babysitter to come over to watch them.
He didn't know what caused the fire but he did know that it was too late to save their sitter as she had been downstairs when the fire started. "It's alright Soph I'm here and will protect you." Jamie told the three year old as he pulled her to his body.
Once she was in his arms, Jamie made his way over to her window and pushed it open. "Jack!" He screamed when he noticed it had begun to snow and hoped the Spirit of Winter would hear him.
Jack was about to fly to his pond when he noticed flames coming out of the bottom floor of a house and had the wind take him closer so he could make sure no one was inside. "Jack!" He heard a familiar voice scream from the second floor of the house.
"Jamie?" Jack uttered as he flew to where he heard the boy's voice come from. He spotted his first believer and his sister in the window of the little girl's bedroom. Jamie sighed in relief as soon as he saw the child Guardian.
He quickly thrust Sophie into Jack's arms as the floor creaked underneath him. Without a word, Jack carried her across the street where he set her down before he turned back around to go get Jamie but before he could move an inch, the top floor of the house collapsed down onto the bottom floor.
"Jamie!" Jack screamed on horror as the boy yelled in fright as the floor fell out underneath him. He left the now sobbing Sophie on a neighbor's lawn as he sped over to the ruined house and instantly began to dig for the boy in the place he would be. "Hang on Jamie, I'll get you out. Don't you dare die on me kid." Jack exclaimed.
He managed to finally reach Jamie and quickly pulled him out from under the rumble, ignoring the pain in his hands, and gently lifted the unconscious boy into his arms in order to carry him to where Sophie still sat in tears.
As Jack set Jamie down on the ground just as the sound of sirens reached his ears as an ambulance came tearing around the corner followed by a fire truck. "Thank MiM." Jack breathed as he knelt to comfort Sophie. "The doctors will take care of you and Jamie and will call your mommy so she can meet you at the hospital. I just need you to be a brave girl now, alright."
"Jack come with us?" She whimpered in question as she clutched to his hoodie.
"I'm sorry Soph but I can't but I promise I'll send your Bunny to you as soon as I can." Jack answered as the paramedics loaded Jamie into the ambulance; once he was secured one of them picked up Sophie and placed her inside, the girl watching Jack until the doors were closed.
When the ambulance was out of sight, Jack called for the wind to take him to North's so he could let him know about what happened as well as get a globe portal so he could get to the Warren. "Bunny, are you here? Sophie needs you; she's at the Burgess hospital!" Jack shouted the minute he entered the Warren. He knew Bunny would hear him and make his way for the hospital the minute he heard about Sophie.
To his surprise, Bunny came to a halt right in front of him before he opened a tunnel for both of them. "Thanks Bunny." Is all Jack said and allowed his body to fall into the tunnel, Bunny right behind him. It didn't take them long to arrive directly in the hospital.
"Sophie, where are you ankle-biter?" Bunny called as soon as he was beside Jack.
"Bunny!" the child's voice answered from down the hall the two Spirits stood and Bunny sprinted toward where the child's voice came from, soon scooping her up into a hug as she cried into his fur. "They won't let me see Jamie and my mommy isn't here yet." She sobbed.
"Shhh, I'm here now and will stay with you until your mommy gets here. Where did they take Jamie?" Bunny soothed then asked and Sophie pointed at a pair of double doors without a word. Bunny glanced at Jack, who nodded and flew through the doors in search of Jamie.
"Shame about the Bennett house but I must say the children are lucky, well the girl is." A nurse said as she passed Jack on the way out of one room, another nurse beside her.
"Yes, what room is the boy in? I heard he has to have surgery." The other nurse responded.
"I think he's in room three, Doctor Grant asked me if I would like to watch the surgery so I could learn what to do if I have to perform a surgery." The first nurse answered as they walked into a room, neither of them noticing when Jack followed them into the room.
"Oh Jamie, I'm sorry. I should have been faster to get you out of that house." Jack mumbled as he watched the doctor and nurses perform surgery on him.
"Jack?" Came Jamie's groggy voice as he woke up from the surgery.
Jack was by Jamie's side the minute he heard his voice and took his hand in one of his, the other ran through his hair. "I'm right here Jamie."
"Can you turn on the lights? It's dark in here." Jamie's words made Jack silently gasp as he moved his hand from the boy's hair to wave it in front of his eyes.
"Oh Jamie no, I'm sorry to tell you this kid but the lights are on. The doctor felt it best to keep your eyes covered for a while, something happened to them when the floor collapsed and he thinks they may be beyond repair." Jack told him, sorrow in his voice.
"No, don't say it. Please Jack, don't say I'm blind." Jamie cried as he tightly clung to Jack's hand, tears now flowing from his sightless eyes. "I can't be blind… there is so much I still want to do."
Jack pulled his best friend into his arms and just let him cling to him as Jamie cried in sorrow at losing his sight. "I'm sorry Jamie, I wish there was something I could do to help you see again." Jack whispered. As he held the child, golden sand entered the room, which was followed by Sandy, who placed a hand on Jack's shoulder. "Sandy is here to see you Jamie." At his words, Jamie reached out for the Sandman and Sandy took his hand in his, gently squeezing it.
"Hey Sandy." Jamie said as he squeezed his hand back. "How's Sophie?" He asked suddenly as he remembered his sister.
"She's asleep at the moment, I went to let Bunny know after you both were on your way to the hospital and he came here right after I told him." Jack replied as he ran a hand through Jamie's hair again. "The only ones who don't know yet are Tooth and North but Sandy will let them know after he leaves here.
I'm going to talk with Mother Nature about her giving me some helpers for winter so I can spend what time I can with you, I'll still have to do my duty as a Guardian but if she'll agree then most of my time will be spent with helping you any way I can."
"Thanks Jack." Jamie murmurs as he falls asleep, Sandy sprinkling dream sand over his head. Jack smiled gratefully at him as he left and Sandy returned the smile just as Mrs. Bennett rushed into the room. She sat in the chair that Jack quickly got out of and took Jamie's hand in her own as tears formed in her eyes. "My poor little boy, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize he had found us but I promise you, once you're out of the hospital I'll find someplace where we'll be safe."
Got a challenge for anyone who wishes to try something new, a Rise of the Guardians and Despicable Me crossover. Now for the rules/Guidelines-
1. The main characters have to be Jack and the minions though you may bring in others from either movie.
2. Keep it kid friendly, nothing over the rating k.
3. Check your spelling and grammar or have someone do it for you.
4. No pairings, I know some of you like to do this but this must be a pure no romance story.
5. Have fun!
