"You promised you would never leave me, that everything would be alright but you lied! What to I have to live for now, where can I find hope when you're gone. It should have been me to go under the ice. Why did you have to save me, why did you have to go Jack?" The now ten year old girl sobbed as she stood at the edge of a pond.
The same pond that she had watched her seventeen year old brother fall through the shattered ice and drown a year ago today. Her shoulders shook with sorrow as she stood there, winter flowers in her trembling hands. "I just want my big brother back, I want to hear his stories and his laughter again. I want to see his smile once more.
If anyone is listening then I beg you, please, bring my brother, Jack, back to me. Without him there is no fun or laughter anymore." Unknown to her, someone was listening to every word she spoke and silently wished he could help her. As she stood there some of the last words her brother ever spoke to her came to her mind.
"You just have to believe in me." She drew in a deep breath as the flowers fell from her hands. "I do, I believe in you Jack and I will never stop even when I grow old!" She shouted to the sky. "I love you big brother and will never forget you." She then whispered before she turned and returned to her family's home to get warm as it started to snow.
The one who had been listening to her, followed her to make sure she got home safely. He felt the need to watch over and protect her though he didn't know, or understand, why. "Thank you Emily." He whispered as she opened the door to her family's cabin, which caused the girl to briefly pause.
It was just for a second but she could of swore she heard her brother's voice on the wind, thanking her, but she knew it was just her hopeful thinking. She shook her head and pushed open the door to enter into the warmth of the cabin, where she was lovingly greeted by her parents.
