The four remaining original Guardians stared aghast as their youngest, and newest, Guardian was swallowed up in flames and his screams of agony sounded in their ears. "JACK!" Tooth shouted and made to rush to him but she stopped when North and Bunny placed a hand and paw on her shoulders.

North sadly shook his head as Tooth raised her head to meet his tear filled gaze, her own eyes leaking, knowing there was nothing they could do to help their child Guardian. Sandy gently pulled Tooth into a hug, the other two joined him and comforted each other as the screams stopped.

~A year later~

Tooth landed at the pond that her fellow Guardians and other Immortals had taken to calling 'Jack's Pond' after his sacrifice he made to save his first believer. "Hey Jack sorry I haven't visited in a while, been collecting teeth with my girls. It has been a year since we lost you and I still find it hard to believe that you are really gone and won't be returning to us.

Sandy still makes sure that the children remember you by giving them dreams of them playing with you, North is doing the same by creating toys that are a replica of you, right down to what you wore and the staff you carried. Baby is doing alright, but she misses you, as is Jamie, though it took several months of thereby for him to get over what happened and the fact it wasn't his fault you left us.

Out of all of us I think Bunny has taken losing you the hardest, considering how close you two became after you joined our Guardian ranks. He has closed himself off in the Warren and is refusing to come out, he even stayed in the Warren on Easter. All the eggs he sent out were blue and white, winter or should I say, Frost themed."

Tooth let out a sigh as a single tear slipped from her right eye but she quickly wiped it away and fluttered up. "I should get going Jack, I just wanted to come by and let you know how everyone is doing...well bye, I'll try to stop by again sooner." With that she turned and flew away.

Not long after Tooth was out of sight, a tall, slender figure with long, dark hair and dark eyes stepped out from behind a near-by tree. Her eyes held a deep sorrow at the words she had heard. She raised her head to gaze at the full moon. "I know no-one could replace Jack but we need to do something. You know this, I know you do. Winter hasn't been the same without Jack and neither has fun."
A single moon beam shone down on her as a voice answered in her mind. "I agree but I have yet to find another worthy enough to take his place. I shall continue with my search and tell you the minute I find him or her." Mother Nature nodded in understanding and left.
Unknown to her, the man in the moon or MiM, as his Guardians called him, had found a replacement for Jack but was still unsure of her worthiness and continued to watch her. So far she had proven to have the same personality as Jack though MiM has yet to see if she would willingly give her life for someone younger than her.

He had found out a few things about her, such as her favorite season was winter, which made her the perfect candidate for the new Spirit of Winter, she also hated to wear shoes, no matter the season, and only wore them when she was forced to.

He also found out that she preferred the country to the city and went for a walk in the woods when she got the chance. As he thought of her, she agreed to take the children she was babysitting to the pond for a few hours of ice skating. Once MiM noticed where the group was headed he sent a moon beam down with Jack's staff and had it placed along the path they were taking.

"Hey look what I found." One of the children exclaimed as he picked up Jack's staff and gave to the teen girl . "It looks like the staff Jack used to carry."

"Let me see." Another boy insisted as he pushed past his friends to take a look at the staff. "It look like Jack's staff because it is." He gasped as the teen girl fingered it in amazement. The other children's mouths fell open at his words.

"Well I don't care whose staff it used to be, I like it and plan to keep it." The teen girl stated as she swung it over her shoulders, much like Jack used to, and lead the way to the pond once more.

~Later at the pond~

"Jamie, don't move. I'm coming." The teen girl instructed as she sped across the cracking ice toward the child, hoping that she got to him in time. As she raced across the ice and against time, she dropped the staff right before she reach Jamie and shoved him to the thicker ice just as the ice broke apart and sent her into the water.

The ice froze over once more before she could make it to the surface, trapping her underneath it. As she banged against the ice in attempt to create another hole, she felt her strength leaving her and realized she wouldn't make it.

As she realized that she allowed her body to sink, glad that Jamie was safe at least, and drew in a lungful of water. "Please don't blame yourself for my death kid." She thought before she lost consciousness.

Mother Nature walked through a forest in a different country when MiM informed her he had found her a new Spirit of Winter in Burgess and was in the process of bringing her back to life. She quickly made her way to Burgess to see the new Spirit of Winter and Guardian.

The teen girl looked around her as her feet touched the ice she had risen from and blinked in surprise at the sound of a voice resounding in her head. "Your name is Wynter, my daughter." As she moved her gaze across the pond she stood on her eyes landed on a staff not far from where she stood.

Wynter glided over to the staff and picked but ended up dropping it as frost onto it from her hands. "Did I do that, but how?" She mumbled as she stooped to pick the staff up again. As she held the staff, Wynter looked up at the moon. "What is my purpose, why have you brought me back to life?"

When she didn't receive an answer she turned away from the moon with a huff and walked off the pond to enter the forest. As she left, Mother Nature watched her with an amused smile. "I like her, you chose well MiM. When do you plan to let your Guardians know about her?"

MiM didn't answer her, as she suspected he wouldn't, so she made her way to the place she called home. North was finishing up on a new toy design when MiM spoke to him, "I want you to gather the others. There is something I must tell my Guardians." He quickly set the design down and headed for the globe room where he sent th signal out for the other three Guardians.

The minute Tooth, Sandy and Bunny saw the lights they knew they were being summoned by MiM and quickly made their way to the Pole. Once they were all gathered together MiM spoke to them. "My Guardians, I have great news. I have found someone to take over Jack's duties as Spirit of Winter as well as his role of Guardian though she won't be the Guardian of Fun. Her role as Guardian will be different for her center is Creativity so that is what her title will be but you must not tell her, she'll have to figure it out on her own just like Jack did. You may help find her center though."

"What's her name?" Tooth asked, eagerly.

"Her name is Wynter and you'll find her in Burgess. You'll know her upon first sight for she now carries Jack's staff."

"You can't give her Jack's staff!" Bunny explored. "Jack is the only one who is allowed to carry his staff!"

Sandy sighed before he chucked a ball of his dreamsand at Bunny in order to calm him down which caused the last Pooka to hit the floor, asleep.

Tooth and North glanced at him and Sandy simply shrugged at their looks. North shook his head and turned to Tooth.

"You go get Wynter and bring her here, you are fastest and can tell how to use wind to fly." He told Tooth, who nodded and flew out an open window.

Wynter was walking around the streets of Burgess when, without warning, there was a feather covered woman fluttering right in front of her. "Are you Wynter, of course you are, you do have Jack's old staff after all and MiM said you would. Oh I'm sorry I'm Tooth, Guardian of Memories and the Tooth Fairy, it's nice to meet you Wynter and I'm glad MiM found you not that I'm glad he is replacing Jack, no one could ever take his place..."

Before Tooth could continue Wynter covered her mouth with her hand. "Uh hi, Tooth was it." Tooth nodded. "Yeah, is there a reason you are here other than to attempt to talk my ears off?" Wynter questioned as she pulled her hand back.

"Oh yes, sorry. North sent me to get you and take you to the Pole and give you a message. Jack always used the wind to fly and you can too, one of the perks of being the Spirit of Winter, all you have to do is call on the wind and it will answer you."

Wynter was a bit skeptical but decided to try what Tooth said anyway and called for the wind to take her to the Pole. Tooth giggled at the look on Wynter's face as the wind lifted her up into the clouds which was followed by the sound of Wynter yelling in glee.

"flying is the best, isn't it?" Tooth said as she joined Wynter in the clouds.

"It is." Wynter agreed as the two of them flew for the Pole, where North Bunny and Sandy were waiting.
