Gryffindor Fourth Year Girls' Dormitory

One of our last Hogsmeade weekends for the year and Lily can't even get out of bed, she's so sick. Typical. I feel bad for her. She was really looking forward to today. But now Sev has decided he's just gonna hang around his Slytherin friends all day because Lily's not coming, which leaves me all alone.

Anyway, Remus and Sirius want me to just go with them (the Marauders I mean), but James was complaining about that, so I don't know. Maybe I should just stay here.

I just told Lily that, and she goes, "Don't be ridiculous. You have to go! Just go with the Marauders. The others boys will make sure James behaves."

Sigh. So I guess I'm going to Hogsmeade with the Marauders.

I'd go with Janice and Georgia, but they're going with Tamara, and we all know how much she hates me. Her whole "nice" stage really didn't last very long last year, and she's definitely full-fledged bitch these days. She can have all those guys as far as I'm concerned, if that's what she's upset about.

I'd better start mentally preparing myself for this now.

The Three Broomsticks

Surprisingly, I've been having fun today. Sirius and Remus were being sweet and told James that they weren't gonna go to Zonko's today, because I was with them, so we just went to Honeydukes for a bit and then they asked me what I wanted to do. So of course I convinced them to go to the Hogshead with me, because Lily won't ever come and I knew they would. It was pretty shady in there, so we just sat in the corner and tried some of the Firewhiskey (that stuff is intense). We made up stories about the really strange looking people that came in. There were like, hags and Warlocks and a couple werewolves (I think... I suppose you can't be completely sure that's what they were, but who else would dress the way they do?), and I swear one of the customers was a Vampire. I'm also pretty sure I saw a Veela for the first time because every male eye in the place was glued on her. I didn't see the big deal though. I guess she was pretty, but I didn't get the fascination factor.

Anyway, so then I figured the Marauders would actually agree to break into the Shrieking Shack with me, because Lily never does, but when I asked them, they were all super quick to refuse. Even Sirius, who is always up for doing stupid things!

Sirius just asked me, "What are you doing Rose?"

I said, "I'm writing in my diary," and he goes, "Ooh, can I read it?"

Seriously? In what universe does he think I would ever let him read my diary?!

He just said, "You just don't want me to read it because you just talk about how much you love me all the time."

I said, "Uh, it's pretty much the opposite reason." He's just pouting at me now. He's so spoiled. He acts like a child most of the time. His brother's in Slytherin, which probably means that his parents are rich, snobby Pure-bloods.

You know, I've just realised I don't really know anything about the Marauders. Even Remus. What a weird thought.

Sirius was reading over my shoulder just now and said, "Well maybe you should stop writing in your diary and actually talk to us, seeing as we're real people." And you know, I think I might take him up on that offer. This time at least. He's still in trouble for reading over my shoulder though.

10:34pm

Gryffindor Common Room

I had a really good time with the boys today. After I stopped writing, I asked Sirius about his parents. Let me tell you, that was an interesting conversation.

So I asked him, "So what are you parents like?" and he goes, "Snobby, proud and bigoted." I guess I kinda raised my eyebrows at that, so he just kind of sighed before he explained.

He was like, "So my family are Pure-bloods going waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back. Like, 'so incestuous it should be illegal' way back." Then he paused before he was like, "and they think that Muggles and Muggle-born are scum." He flinched, waiting for my reaction, I guess because he thinks I'm a Muggle-born (and I might be... who's to know?).

So I just asked him, "And what about you? What do you believe?"

He smiled then and said, "I think a Wizard is a Wizard. What does it matter who his parents are?" I agreed with him of course. Anyway, he said everyone in his family has been in Slytherin for generations. Anyone who isn't Sorted into Slytherin is pretty much tossed out of the family, apparently. Sirius said that's more likely due to the fact that those who aren't in Slytherin have strong moral opinions in a very different and, in many ways, opposite vein to the rest of the family. Which was probably why they were Sorted into different Houses to begin with.

If I hadn't have met Regulus (his brother) once before, I'd have said Sirius acted quite arrogant and selfish himself. Although, to be fair, he's no where even near the magnitude of James's assholeishness.

Anyway, then Peter piped up. He was all, "Yeah, your family are huge jerks man. Aren't they all buddy-buddy with Voldemort?"

Sirius nodded and then said, "Yeah, mainly my mum. She thinks he's exactly what the Wizarding world needs to bring us all to our senses."

"Did you try and tell her why she's wrong?" I asked. He just rolled his eyes.

"Yeah," he said. "I sure did. She doesn't really pay attention to me when I talk though, or at all. She pretty much just pretends I don't exist."

All of this just really baffled me, because I mostly just hang out with Lily, who was also raised by Muggles, and Severus never talks about his parents. But I'm pretty sure his dad's a Muggle.

So anyway, I said, "So are all your parents like this?" That was when James laughed.

"No! My parents are considered blood traitors by people like the Blacks," he said.

I said, "What does that mean?" because, of course, I had no idea.

"It means that we're of Pure-blood descent, so all of our, um, ancestors I guess are Wizards and Witches. But we don't discriminate against Muggles or Muggle-born Witches and Wizards. Because that would be stupid." He scoffed and I nodded, even though I couldn't believe that James Potter and I were agreeing on anything.

Anyway, then Peter said, "I'm a Half-blood. My dad's a Muggle, so no judgement here. I've got the best of both worlds."

Remus said his parents are both magical but that they aren't Pure-bloods so they don't care about any of that stuff, but I already knew that much about Remus.

Then James said something about Remus's furry problem or something? I don't know. I got a little lost in the conversation at that point. They were all just joking and laughing about something and Remus went red and told them all to shut up. It could have been about a rabbit maybe? I don't know.

Anyway, after a minute, Sirius asked me, "So what's your family like? You're Muggle-born, aren't you?"

So then, I guess because they were all being so honest with me, I said, "Um, well, my parents are Muggles, but I don't actually really know what I am."

And they were all four of them just like, "What?"

So then I said, "Well, I'm adopted." You should have seen the looks on all their faces. Remus just looked completely uncomfortable, Sirius looked super shocked, James looked kind of guilty. Absolutely priceless, let me tell you. Peter didn't have any particular expression on his face, but you know, you can't always get everyone with these things.

So then Sirius is like, "So you don't know who your parents are?" and when I shook my head he just kind of frowned. "Does that like, upset you?"

So I explained, "It did when I first found out. The first things I thought were, 'Why didn't my parents want me?' and 'What's wrong with me?' But over the last few years, finding out that I'm a Witch and being here at Hogwarts has made me realise that there are a million different reasons why my parents might not have been able to keep me. Or maybe they're dead."

"But it's gotta be hard!" James said.

"Yeah, of course. But I wouldn't give up my family now for anything. I'm glad I have them."

Anyway, after that we just talked about whatever, and then I told the boys I'd go to Zonko's with them for a bit if they wanted to go. So we went over there, and they showed me all their favourite joke and prank items. We had a lot of fun! It was a really good day. Anyway, gotta put a Study Plan together tomorrow so I have to get up kind of early. Bed time.
