[Izaya's POV]
Izaya, Shizuo and Kasuka all shifted restlessly on the couch in Shinra's apartment, waiting for the results, if there were any, of the fingerprint scan that could reveal their attacker.
Namie and Celty were currently having 'girl talk' in the kitchen now that the headless rider was back from retrieving the evidence. The Dullahan had volunteered herself to go pick it up after listening to to everyone, besides Namie and Shinra, debate about who should go.
Izaya had announced that he should have gone for the obvious reason, it was his apartment and it was probably his fault that they'd been attacked. Shizuo nominated himself because he was in charge of keeping his brother, and unhappily his brother's boyfriend, safe, which meant going back into a dangerous area to get things in their place. That was quickly shot down by Kasuka who just didn't want to see either of them in any more danger, at least not in the same day that they had already avoided serious injury.
After quite a bit of bickering, Shizuo and Izaya having their usual banter - this time with the 'I'll kill you's - and Shinra telling all of them to calm down and decide this like gentleman, Celty had come in, told them all to be quiet through PDA and quickly left, the whiny of her motorcycle telling them all that arguing at this point would definetly be for nothing.
Now it was about 20 minutes later and none of them knew what to do, Izaya especially though he was trying to piece together who would do something like this to them. The list was still too long and vague to look at though, his mind coming up blank whenever he tried to put a name to who could have done this. Finally he sighed, the action getting his boyfriend's attention and just a scowl from Shizuo who was farthest from him on the couch.
"Think of anything?" Kasuka muttered, not being too loud just because the room around them was completely silent; the kind of silent that made it feel like almost a bother to speak up and break it, or like you were being rude for some reason by trying to talk. Izaya couldn't agree more because he certainly wouldn't have been the first one to say anything right now unless Shinra was the one walking in.
The informant shook his head, holding in another sigh since he didn't feel like irritating the beast beside them too much, for now. Fighting would do nothing for them in this situation. "No, nothing.. The whole thing is just odd. It's one thing in my line of work to be.. disliked and open to attack every now and then, that's normal. But this has never happened. No one's ever threatened me like this without actually... I dunno, threatening me?" Izaya tried to work out, wishing he hadn't replied now as he realized what he said didn't make any sense. Of course they threatened me, we thought a bomb went off. A real one! That's a threat if I ever saw one... But still, there wasn't really any warning or reason and the thing didn't even hurt us or my house. How am I supposed to respond to that?
To his surprise, Kasuka nodded back to him. "I think I get it. This whole thing sounds more like a prank than an attack to me, but if it happens again.." the actor trailed off, biting his lip until Izaya nudged him, motioning for him to stop it. The informant shifted closer to his lover and laid his head on Kasuka's shoulder, not sure if Shizuo was paying attention or not and definetly not caring as they both fell into silence again. There was still chatter coming from the kitchen but it seemed almost muted out, it being the only actual noise in the room as well since Shinra's clocks were digital. At least we don't have that stupid ticking to listen to like in the movies...
It continued this way for a couple more minutes, Izaya sitting up again when they heard the door open.
Shinra finally came out, a paper in his hand as he stopped at the front of the hall, glancing at them. "Well.. There is a print on it, and I scanned it a few times in different places, but I can't get a name for it." the doctor admitted, glancing at the paper in his hand with a look of disdain before turning his gaze up at the three of them, glancing passed them as well when the girls finally came out of the kitchen to listen to the news. Shinra repeated what he found out and Namie raised a brow, visually ticked off. And despite Celty lacking any facial expression, Izaya could tell that she wasn't happy either as her shoulders drooped.
"What do you mean you can't get a name? You just said you have the prints." Shizuo huffed where he sat, grimacing where he was as Shinra turned to him to explain.
"Hey, I'm not some government worker or police officer, ya know! Just because I have the equipment and skills does not mean that I have every name and face listed in that thing. The best I have is an index of most people born in Japan up to a certain number of years ago. Everyone else; foreigners, tourists, probably people that weren't born in a hospital or facility; I have nothing on them." the doctor prattled on, frown on his face as they all looked towards him, faces irritated but understanding. He is an illegal doctor, we can't expect him to have everything... Izaya told himself, running a hand through his hair as he turned to look ahead again, sinking into his seat on the couch as they went back to Square 1.
No name, no face, no reason, no clues...
Suddenly Kasuka tapped him on the shoulder, realization on his face. "Hey, you live on a residential street, don't you?" the actor asked, Izaya raising a brow from the question. There is no dumb question except for that one, Kasu-kun.
"You know I do. Why does it matter?"
"Because, that means there shouldn't be any hotels or businesses on your street at all, meaning whatever room that thing was shot from must belong to someone. So, if we go to their building and just ask who has that room then we might have the name of the person who shot it." he conveyed, glancing between Izaya, Shinra and Celty as he did, obviously excited that he had thought of a partial solution to their problem. And Izaya couldn't blame him, what he'd just said was not only smart but obvious, making him, admittedly, the smartest person in the room right now for even noticing it.
Everyone paused for a second as they took that in, Izaya finally nodding. "You're right.. Kasuka, you're a genius." he admitted, giving his boyfriend a warm smile and peck on the lips before standing.
"Alright. We can't go in there and ask everyone if they shot a grenade at us or anything like that, so I need a computer. Shinra, you got one?" Izaya asked, turning to the doctor who guiltily shook his head.
"No.. Celty's laptop broke a week ago and we haven't had the time to get it repaired because of more patients." he admitted, Izaya not even paying attention to his explanation as to why. The informant was turning away from him half way through the sentence. Don't have time.. Need to handle grenade-guy, still have Shiki's work to do.. I hate when everything awful happens at once.
"Alright then. Namie, I know you have one. You still have a home computer, right?"
His assistant nodded before letting out a sigh, glancing at her phone to check to the time. "Yes, I do. If you wanna use it we better hurry though. It takes a train to get there and the next one to my stop is leaving in twenty minutes." Namie reported, looking back up at him to see her employer nodding.
"Alright.. Namie, you're coming; Shizuo, you're coming with us-"
"Why do I have to go with you!?"
"You're still my bodyguard, suck it up. Besides, if you're not going to protect me then come with us to protect Namie."
The blond let out a growl before grumbling as he stood, dutifully following them and getting a proud but worried look from Kasuka. Said actor stood up as well. "I'm coming with you-"
"No you aren't."
"But it was my idea!"
Izaya held in another sigh as he looked at Kasuka, opening his mouth to protest again before he glanced at Namie's phone. We don't have time for this. He did come up with the idea but if there's anyone scouting her out as well then once we step foot near the property he could be in serious danger... the informant worked through the pros and cons quickly, glancing up at Shizuo to see if he had any say in what to do. The blond looked conflicted as well. Finally, before Izaya could decide, he spoke up.
"Kasuka, you're staying with Shinra and Celty. It's safest here and you're the one that we have on the quickest speed dial, so if we need help then we'll be calling you to send it for us. Okay?" the debt collector announced, getting a stunned look from both Izaya and Kasuka before it clicked in Izaya's head what he was doing to make this go faster for them. The informant thanked him - in his head at least, he would never ever let the beast think he was grateful for him hanging around - and turned to Kasuka as well, nodding quickly.
"He's right. If anything happens you'll be the first one to know."
The actor didn't seem content with that, eyes slightly wide still as he looked between them, Namie muttering behind them that if they didn't hurry they would miss the train. Izaya gave Kasuka puppy eyes and hoped no one else noticed, the actor quickly noticing it and sighing in defeat. "Alright, I'll stay here.. Just be careful for me." Kasuka relented, getting an extremely quick smile and hug from Izaya before they were all out the door and on their way to the train station as fast as possible. I'll be careful for you Kasu-kun, but I can't promise anything right now. I hope everything goes okay..
Chapter 90!
And another inspiration block!
YAAAY!
Not... But, I did finally get the chapter out now that I'm back at the computer and I like how it came out as well. Plus it's even longer than usual too, so I hope you guys don't mind the wait tooo much.
That said, sorry for the delay and I hope you're all still loving the story. It makes me really happy to see so many of you still sticking with it this far, especially with all the twists and turns it's gone through since the beginning.
This story is nowhere near over and I actually know exactly where I'm going to be cutting it off and continuing in another sequel, like a secondary-sequel if you guys aren't too tired of these adorable dumbasses by then.
I'm not going to spoil what the ending point is yet, that would ruin ALL of the fun and I don't even have any clue how long it's going to take me to get there. My idea would probably take place, at the earliest, once they've been together for a year or a little more and we're only a couple months in!
These guys have a long way to go together and I'm gonna make sure they love almost every minute of it~
I hope all you guys will love it too :3
I hope you all liked this chapter! Favorite, follow and review to see more!
