Chapter 5
As soon as the doors opened Link and Hilda could see a stairway and light leaking down to them, Link and Hilda looked at each other, nodded, and started to walk up the stairs.
Hilda found this exciting she didn't know what would come next. What would they do to rescue the sage? She knew it would be an enemy, since she sent Yuga to bring the sage here, but she didn't know who, or what they'd face well, kinda she knew it was some plant thing. She thought maybe Link would know. "Link?" she asked.
He faced her lantern in hand. "Yeah?"
"What do you think is at the end of this stairway?"
"Well either a strong enemy, or a portal back to Lorule to a strong enemy."
Hilda nodded. "Makes sense," she stayed quiet for the remainder of the travel up the stairs. When they reached the top of the they could see the world outside. The light was way bright due to their eyes being dilated to the darkness. If you looked back down the stairway was super dark.
They stepped out of the archway and looked both directions, Link found a portal to Lorule. "Well I guess that solves that." He grabbed Hilda's hand. "You ready?"
Hilda nodded, blushing, still not used to Link just casually grabbing and holding her hand. Yeah but it's only to travel between worlds. She told reminded herself. Nothing else.
They both ran into the wall again. They went to the crack and popped out in Lorule in front of some sand pit that seemed to all drag toward the middle. "Hm, quicksand?" Hilda asked.
"You mean you don't know? This is part of your kingdom." Link said.
Hilda shrugged "I don't ever come to the Misery Mire, the water is too icky."
"True, well I know how to find out if it's quicksand." Link looked around for a rock. He saw a big one. He picked it up and threw it in the sand, the rock traveled with the sand to the middle until it sank. "Hm, that's probably going to be a problem."
"It shouldn't I think you can do it!" Hilda smiled.
"Yeah, but I could use some help."
"With?"
"The sand, do you think you can rise pillars so then I can walk around?"
"Sure!"
Link handed Hilda the sand rod. She brought up a row of pillars leading to the middle stone pillar. Once he reached it, the ground started to rumble. "What is this?" Hilda asked. "An earthquake?"
Link shook his head. "No, couldn't be that."
As soon as he said that a plant rose on a nearby pillar, "Here we go!" Hilda created the necessary pillars for Link to get across, and he started to slash wildly, as he did a white liquid started to seep its way out. Blood. Well at least a plants version of it. Turns out it didn't even matter it still made Link nauseous.
I'm so sorry Link! Hilda thought, I actually knew about the plant, and how it bled well kinda, and chose not to tell you! Sadly, I still need your Triforce I hope you'll understand, "Stay strong Link!" she yelled.
Link looked over to her nodded and told her to create a path back to her, she obliged, and he quickly ran over the sand pillars back to Hilda. "Sheesh, do all enemies here have blood?"
Hilda seemed to think about this. "I think so," she said.
"Greeaaaat" Link said sarcastically.
The plant creature sent it's little minions towards them he slashed at them, the first bled then disappeared with a poof, Hilda wondered why they did that, she never truly noticed how that's how the evil creatures are killed. Like bleeding then just poofing away, she'd have to look into that at one point. Link keeled over, if it wasn't for Hilda catching him he would've fallen in to the sand.
"Easy there," she said. "It's almost over," she gently rubbing Link's back.
It was so soothing it made Link's nausea go away. "Thanks Hilda." He said. He grabbed the sand rod, created a row of pillars, and leaped at the plant cutting it straight down the center. If Hilda wasn't disturbed by blood before, she definitely was now. As soon as Link's master sword made contact with the plant, a wound opened gushing out the plants blood, it was like that until it exploded in a white light. Link stood on a platform panting.
The sand's drain seemed to stop because the sand level rose. Link walked over to Hilda smiled, then vomited in the sand.
Hilda rubbed his back, "There, there. It's over. The battle is over."
Link stood up straight, surprisingly there was no barf around his lips. He nodded walked over to the painting of that witch and tapped it. After that he disappeared.
…
While he was talking to a sage, Hilda was drawing several pictures in the sand waiting for him to come back, her version of the Triforce, a heart with a H+L in it, and two little stick figures, them supposed to be her and Link. Then a voice in her head said.
Cute Drawings.
"Yuga…" Hilda growled.
So, did you tell the hero that you wuv him? He mocked.
"Shut up!" Hilda yelled.
Talking to yourself princess? What would Link say to that?
Hilda looked up as if she could see Yuga, knowing he was looking through the crystal ball, (which little did she know Yuga thought she could see him). "I'm going to help him rescue the sages"
Then betray him? Yuga asked. Are you sure that's a wise decision?
"I don't know what's wise anymore."
"Hilda?" said a voice from behind her. It was Link's. She quickly wiped away her drawings.
"Who you talking to?"
"Oh, no one. Just myself." Hilda said hoping he'd believe it.
Oh, NICE save. Yuga said.
Shut up, and GET OUT OF HEREI Hilda thought to Yuga.
Well, somebody's moody today, I'll come back when you're in a better mood.
"Ah, okay." Link said.
Hilda let out small sigh of relief. "So what's next on the agenda?"
"Wait, you want to help more?" Link asked surprised.
"Yeah." Hilda said. "This was fun, I'd like to do at least a little more"
"Well okay, then first things first, we need to get some stuff from Hyrule."
"Okay,"
Link walked over and held out his hand. Hilda took it and Link helped lift her up, (a little too strongly because) then Hilda fell forward and Link caught her in his arms. He thought her hair smelled like cinnamon.
Hilda backed away slightly blushing. "Let's go," she said.
Link nodded, they found a nearby crack took hands and charged the wall.
...
Once they stepped out on the other side they sat down in some nearby grass, "So what do you want to do?"
"Well first, I'd like to see if you-know-who, has another bracelet,"
Link looked puzzled, "I know, who? Ah Rav-" Hilda's glare cut him off. "Right, not going to say his name."
"Good,"
Link pulled out a small golden bell and rung it.
"What's that going to do?" Hilda asked.
"You'll find out" Link said grinning.
Then a small witch's broom, soared down and appeared right in front of them. "Aw, look at this" a voice seemed to come from the broom. "Link! You got a girlfriend!"
Link's face started getting very red. As well as Hilda's. "I-Irene," Link stuttered. "She-She's not my girlfriend."
"Well sure looks like it," Irene teased. "Well you gonna get on or not?"
Link sighed, he reached his left hand on the bristles of the broom and gripped them. He reached out his other hand. Hilda seemed to get the hand and put her arms around Link. He wrapped his right arm around her setting his hand on her hip. "O-okay Irene, We're rea-" Even before he could finish his sentence Irene zoomed up into the sky.
Well, end of chapter 5! The idea Irene flying those two around came from, patrick the almighty observer. The ending, if it wasn't super clear it was kinda like a hug, except instead of link having both arms around Hilda he just has one and is holding on to the broom with the other. Next up is hopefully kakariko village (idea from: agarfinkel), that and we'll be seeing ravio, (not Hilda seeing him though, I'm saving an encounter of those two for the end). I will also later (not sure when) interpet the MaiMais into the story. (Idea by: .Godot) QotC: Do you think Ravio should have a second bracelet? or just the one to keep the story a little bit more like the original near the end.
