[Izaya's POV]
The informant groaned as he ran a hand through his hair, eyes shut tightly as he took a break from reading through logs and paper trails, currently on search for another victim the Yakuza had caught and dragged in. After days of no contact from his boss, not a word saying that he was doing good or bad, and receiving no orders or further instructions, Shiki had finally gotten back to him with a rather short list of things to do compared to the previous assignments, the ones that the informant had been practically pulling his hair out over.
It was a nice change, not having so many things to do at once, having just a few too many things to worry about.. Still it was rather unsettling for him to not get anything from Shiki in the first place.
Usually he got a message from the man every other day, at the least, and all of them were demands, reports, tasks or even just subtle threats being given for him to stay in line and get work done. For the man he personally feared to not bother with him for almost a whole week, Izaya could only assume the worse was happening in his line of work.
Maybe he finally slipped up… Maybe that 'inside worker' wasn't quite as reliable as we thought he was.. Maybe they've just been searching more intently for a place to lay low. I know Shiki would never chose to settle down somewhere he hadn't personally been to and checked out yet, he would never do something that stupid.. Then again, he might just be making me nervous on purpose; it wouldn't be the first time..
Izaya jumped as the door to his dressing room opened, his finger reflexively hitting the kill button he'd set on his laptop for it to turn off without him actually clicking ever-obvious power button. That would make anyone suspicious as to what he was doing.
Kasuka looked at him from the doorway, noticing how tense and jumpy he was almost immediately. "You alright?" the actor asked him, walking in further and holding out a cup of tea for him, one that he hadn't requested but was thankful for anyways. Only last night him and Kasuka had been.. intimate, and it was just like Kasuka to lay low about it towards his co-workers while still trying to make sure Izaya was feeling alright. The informant took his drink with a small smile and nodded, setting it aside after a quick drink.
"Yeah, everything's fine… This guy is just better at jumping around than most. It's pretty irritating." the ravenett admitted, a sigh escaping him as he leaned back on the couch, closing his laptop and setting it aside as his boyfriend came to sit at his side, a script in his hand that looked pretty full up on dialogue. Great, it's probably a whole episode about my character again.. Just more to memorize, I guess. he noted to himself, ignoring it for now and turning his attention on Kasuka again.
"Sorry to hear that.. Did Shiki finally send you something? I don't remember a person being on your list of stuff to do." his boyfriend muttered, wrapping an arm around the informant as they both relaxed for a moment. Last night, more correctly very early this morning, they had both woken up again from the cold running through the house and after realizing that neither were going back to sleep very soon, they started chatting.
Izaya had already admitted aloud what his frustrations were earlier and even if he'd been pretty shaken up about everything at the time, he did remember how freeing it felt to let Kasuka in just a little more. To trust him completely, just a little more. It was scary, threatening to himself and his lover, at least in his mind, but freeing all the same to know he wasn't alone in this fucked up job of his.
So, he'd let Kasuka take another step in, giving him some more details on how he hadn't heard from his boss, had only gotten a very limited amount of conversation from Shinnosu and also had been pretty much ignored by a couple other contacts he had within the Yakuza. Of course he hadn't named names or locations or anything, he still wasn't stupid or willing enough to tell Kasuka everything, but his boyfriend had seemed to get the gist of it. Izaya hadn't been getting all the information, and being an informant, that was one of the scariest things that could happen. Kasuka understood that enough to let him fall asleep in his arms again, muttering sweet nothings into his ear until the informant fell asleep, not letting himself slip away before the other so he got caught up in unhappy thoughts. The informant wondered how he ever obtained the right to having such a wonderful man love him this much.
"Yeah, I did. Finally." Izaya replied, the smile on his face growing as Kasuka gave him one in return at the news. "There was nothing bad, though there wasn't really anything good either.. I got less assignments than usual, too. Maybe.. we could finally go on another date?" he added, biting his lip to fight off a blush at the suggestion.
It wasn't that often that Izaya was the eager one for a date, at least not enough to personally ask for one. Between the two of them, it was like a silent agreement that Izaya would go along with any date that Kasuka planned, and Kasuka would be the one to tease him about going, to make most of the plans - Izaya was always good at making plans but planning for a kidnapping and planning for a date were two completely different things, only of them being something he was good at. Though for Kasuka, he would try to take charge a little more often. Not everything could go wrong as long as they were with each other, after all.
The actor beside him seemed to light up at the idea, his eyes almost sparkling as he nodded along, pressing a kiss to Izaya's nose. The informant blushed and shooed him away, muttering that someone was going to walk in on them someday. Kasuka ignored the kind-of threat and continued to pepper him with kisses until the informant's phone buzzed, the actor backing off just enough for him to check it properly.
[Bro, you awake!? At work!? No? Then come and hang out with me and Kururi! Like, now! RIGHT NOW! We're super bored and mom finally got to the hotel too, so you need to come say hi and stuff.]
Izaya blinked at the message once, twice, a third; he reread it then and finally sighed, a hand coming up to run through his hair. Of course she chooses to come now.. She doesn't send me a message, a warning, give me a call. She hasn't even sent me a fucking birthday card in three years and now she wants to hang out with me!? The hand in his hair tightened a little as he continued thinking, a scowl forming on his face as he set down his phone. For a moment, he almost forgot his boyfriend was sitting right beside him.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Kasuka asked him, giving his arm a small squeeze for attention. At the soft tone of his voice, Izaya released the grip on his hair, head falling back on the couch.
"It's.. nothing's wrong. I guess.. Mom is in town and my sisters want me to hang out with them, that's all." the informant admitted, eyes still closed as he tried to take a deep breath and calm down. It's just mom.. It's not like I'm dealing with a pack of Shizu-chans, it's just her. And my sisters.. I like them though, they aren't too much to handle.. he thought to himself, trailing off a bit as he zoned back in on Kasuka's voice.
"Your mom?" the actor coughed, the amount of surprise in his voice making Izaya open his eyes. The informant raised a brow.
"Yes, my mom. I was born from someone, ya know. Even Gods have to get here somehow." Izaya replied, watching the other as a small smile came back to his face with a laugh before it was gone. Kasuka, for the first time in a long time, actually seemed awkward about the conversation.
"Yeah, I know that. It's just, you've never ever really said anything about her and there aren't any pictures of.. Well, anyone really, in your house so I just assumed she wasn't..." Kasuka looked like he was thinking of how to continue before he just gave up, trailing off there. The informant stared at him for a second before cracking a smile, chuckling as he looked at the ceiling again.
"You thought my mom was dead..? I mean, I don't blame you, you're right about me not having pictures and stuff, but that wouldn't really point to her being gone." the informant pointed out, glancing at him as the actor lowered his head a little, a blush on his face. Wow, it's so rare for him to get embarrassed like this. Izaya couldn't help letting out another chuckle. "Just forget about it, Kasu-kun, she's nothing for you to worry about. She'll probably be here for the rest of the week with Mairu and Kururi then go back home to the countryside for a few long years.. She'll be out of our hair soon." the ravenett summed up, sitting up a little more as he reached over to take his script from the other side of the couch, leaning over his boyfriend before he settled in his seat again.
Beside him, Kasuka didn't look quite as sure that the conversation was over. "Okay, but.. Does she know anything about you having a boyfriend? A famous boyfriend? Is she expecting to meet me or have dinner or-" Oh, fuck no.
"Kasu-kun, I said she's nothing to worry over. Let's start practice, alright?" Izaya cut off, the smile he had before now being forced to stay on his face; the tone in his voice letting the other know that they were done talking about it. For now, at least.. Hopefully longer.
Kasuka watched him for a moment longer before backing off and picking up his script as well, leaning back on the couch with him as they began reading over their lines.
Chapter 102~
Holy shit, I think I'm actually getting a rhythm back with this story. It's awesome!
I finally got to getting Iza-chan's mom in the picture, them going on another date soon (which I would like suggestions for -wink-wink-), Kasuka knowing about his mom and most likely the question of his dad will be coming soon too. Get ready for some Izaya-centric chapters for a little while :P
Anyways, as you guys can see, our Iza-chan isn't very happy about hearing he'll have to deal with his mom. We'll get to that a little bit more in the next chapter though, so don't worry (even though you guys already know the reason he really doesn't like her anymore).
I hope you all liked this chapter! Favorite, follow and review to see more!
PS. Beato-sama: I'm glad to hear that you're still liking this fic ^^ For someone who makes a point of reviewing instead of silently watching, I'm really proud that you aren't tired of the twists and multiple arcs yet. I'm also glad to hear that I handled the twins alright, along with the smutty-smut last chapter... Dat fluff tho~
Sorry to hear you're so busy as well, but I know how you feel. Over here school is really close to ending so everything is projects, review and finals. That and my parents are forcing me to take a Driver's Ed course soon. That'll be... terrifying..
But I'll try not to die or anything so I keep this story up and running. It's really the biggest motivation I have right now to get up in the morning, so there's no way I'm leaving this behind until it finally reaches it's last chapter... probably 20 years from now, at this rate x3
