[Izaya's POV]
This is just ridiculous. Izaya once again repeated in his head as him and his "bodyguard" walked down the street together, once again collecting eyes on them as they drifted closer and closer to Ikebukuro. At the moment there seemed to be a whole crowd of people watching them, and while he knew that he shouldn't mind - everyone was staring at the blond anyway, waiting for him to attack, so why should Izaya be the one to mind? - he couldn't shake off that lingering thought from yesterday that told him people were beginning to think they were friends. Ridiculous and disgusting... He noted, casting a glance back at his 'companion' to see how he was holding up with all this attention.
Not well, was the short answer.
The blond was currently ignoring everyone, even a couple people who he had seen the blond personally help before, and he was grinding his teeth away on each other, no doubt wishing that he could do a little more than burn a hole in the back of the informant's head. Which, honestly, Izaya could understand.
Sure, they'd gotten along okay for the last little while because of Kasuka being a good mediator, but besides them being able to sit in a room together neither really enjoyed the other's company. Some banter here, a little verbal assault there, and they were ready to part ways at the end of the day - not meet up for coffee or alcohol or fuckin' karaoke like some people might be thinking. It was just... It felt wrong, honestly.
The informant cast another discreet look back at the blond 'puppy dog' as they got just to the edge of Ikebukuro, that fine line in the surrounding city that made things around them seem ever-so-slightly more upbeat than the rest of the town to let them know where they were. He looked ahead of him again when he saw that nothing changed, not even the teeth gnashing. I almost wish he'd quit this 'righteous' shit and just attack me already. It would actually be a blessing by now.. Izaya thought to himself, a frown beginning to form on his face before he thought of simply provoking him. It wasn't a bad idea and he was already going to be late anyways... The informant cast a glance at one of his cellphones to check the time before looking around for a street sign, smiling when he noticed they were just the right length away for this to work.
Izaya Orihara, having lived there as long as he has and being as well informed as he is, knew this city better than he knew himself. Literally. He knew every path he could take to get to anywhere he needed to go, minus a couple new places that were still being set up, renamed, maybe remodeled, etc.. The point is, knowing exactly which paths and short cuts to take, along with knowing the business hours of some of the places nearby, it would be oh so easy for him to just slip away and get to his sisters in record time. And if he was lucky, he might even catch up to them at only a 15 minute wait because he'd be running. Everything was perfect, as well as the weather, so nothing like rain or harsh wind could slip him up either.
The more he thought, the more the informant felt his smile growing wider. And as he glanced once again at what street they were coming up on, the old spark he'd felt months ago from knowing he could outsmart the beast behind him popping back into existence. I missed this feeling. he mused to himself, the smile on his face still stuck there as he tenderly sped up his steps to put a tad more distance between him and Shizuo, the blond either not caring or noticing enough to speed up as well. Everything just kept being a little more perfect, a little more in align now that he felt like he had a plan... Compared to this morning, his day was already looking up. And this feeling he'd missed, the informant wondered why he ever gave it up, let it pass him by as work got a little bit rougher, even if Kasuka was their median. The two were like a cat and dog, after all, not meant to get along and not entirely meant to be kept together. They were meant to fight and meant to chase one another until one eventually collapsed; and that was just what they had built themselves to do, even if for the last few months they had taken a nice, long break.
Other people from the crowd were watching him now instead of Shizuo, the proud and sly smirk on his face probably being the center of attention. He assumed he must have looked mad, like the Mad Hatter a little bit, because of how happy he was to feel like himself again. That was fine too, it would probably just help his next line have that much more impact. The smile grew even more.
Izaya took a deep breath before he spun around, watching as Shizuo stopped glaring for a second out of surprise. He must have looked just a bit too happy, if it surprised even him.. Oh well, back to the plan. "Shizu-chan, if you want to stare at my ass that badly then you have to get in line. Stalking is never the answer." the informant piped up, proud smirk still on his face as he made sure he was loud enough to be heard by others, especially by the debt collector himself. Then, for a second, it was quiet; people waiting to see what would happen, Izaya watching the predator for his next move and Shizuo blinking at him like an idiot as he tried to process what he'd just announced to the world.
Once that second was over, the chase was on. "I-zaaa-yaaaaa-kuuuuuUUUNN!"
Chapter 108!
Sooo, yeah... That just happened...
After four days, this is what you guys got...
Sorry.
I tried to make it good and interesting though, so I hope I achieved that.
Who doesn't like Izaya and Shizuo being their old selves again, though? I haven't had a chapter with them chasing each other for... I can't even count, but it's been months, seriously months. Not in-story months either, which is the freaky thing.
But, hey, I'll get back to the main story in the next chapter and hopefully it will look longer than this one.
PS. I want you guys to guess in the reviews on what's happening. You can guess about anything really, like the storyline or what's gonna happen in this arc, but I mean character-wise. From the last length of chapters, (last being quite a while ago - like from when Izaya met Dong-Yul's cousin to now) I've been slipping things in, and I really want to see who guesses first on what's going on. I'm not that subtle, so I think quite a lot of you can guess it right.
And uhh, reviews are my food guys. Feed me and you'll get chapters out sooner, I'm not kidding.
The minute I see that number go up by one, it's a party in my head and these chapters are the aftermath.
The good thing though, is that you don't even have to make it long or super happy or anything, like.. literally typing 'keep it up!' will get me to put these out sooner than I've been able to.
So, I hope you liked this chapter. Favorite, follow and review, review, review to see more!
