Sorry it's been so long I really do want to get out more chapters but between school my job and insomnia it's pretty hard to do. So I'll try to get the other one out a lot sooner. Don't hate me please.
Disclaimer: I don't own.
I took in a deep breath as I walked down the hall. This is it. Today determines whether I stay captain of the kendo team. Or in more blunt terms. Whether I stay at this school. I know I'm making this sound dramatic, but in reality if I lose things are going to change. And I don't think any of it is for the better.
I sighed, tightening my white head band. We had received our team uniforms yesterday. I stopped when I saw a crowd of students. This was the last meeting before our official competition. I guess it was to get everyone pumped up and hyper for the events to come. But to my surprise. Our vice president wasn't at the head of the crowd like I'd thought. Instead it was Tamaki.
"Hey." Someone said. I looked down to see my sister and Satoshi standing there.
"Whats going on?" I whispered.
"Listen and you will see." She answered. I raised my brow in question. I opened the mouth to speak, but I was abruptly stopped by Tamaki's voice.
"Is everyone here now?" He asked, searching through the crowd to find me standing in the back. He gave me an elegant smile. Everyone turned around to glance back at me. I gave them an awkward wave, not sure on exactly what to say.
The blond then turned to the vice president as he smiled. "I'd like to thank you for letting me have this time to speak."
The other boy smiled and waved his hand. "Nonsense, it seemed like you had something important to say. Well, go on."
Tamaki turned back to us. "I'd just like to say that these past few days have been fun with you all. And that's exactly what we should have out there, fun. This is a competition, but I think we should have fun doing it. After all, what kind of festival would this be if we weren't enjoying it!" He gave a dazzling smile as he glanced over to me. I gave him a grateful look. It seemed like he was trying to encourage me despite the circumstances.
"That's all I have to say." He said.
"Thank you Tamaki." Vice President said as he walked up to the front of the crowd. "Does anyone else have anything to say?"
It became quiet and there were murmurs among us. When suddenly Satoshi said. "Lets go out there and win!"
This seemed to hype up the mood and everyone cheered. We all started toward the direction of the field. As we walked outside to the track, I looked up into the stands and noticed that many parents were here.
"Their parents came?" I mumbled.
"Of course." I turned to see Kaoru standing there. "It's a new festival and they want to see how well there kids can perform in athletic events even if there not active."
I raised my brow and grinned. "You sound like Kyoya."
"Is that an insult?" I turned around to see the red team coming up behind me.
I gulped in when I saw the raven haired boy. "N-No of course not. Just comparing..."
"But he's right you know." He said. "In fact your aunt is here."
I blinked. "Really, where?" She didn't tell me she was coming. I looked around and saw the small women sitting next to Mitsukuni and Mori. They smiled and waved down to me. I waved back up to them with a smile. Then someone caught my eye sitting all the way at the end. It was Hideo's father. He was wearing sun glasses and sitting in the shade with two other men beside him. He held a frown as if it was permanently engraved into his face.
I pursed my lips and looked away from him. Considering Kyoya's relationship with his father I didn't want to ask if he had come to this event. I looked over to Haruhi as she came up to us.
"So Haruhi did your dad come?" I asked.
"No, I didn't tell him about it." She said with a shrug.
I sweat-dropped. "You realize that he'll find out about this and be upset with you, right?"
"He would overreact about anything. Besides he's at work now. I'm gonna force him to take time off to come here."
I shook my head. I'm sure he still wanted to at least know about it. Oh well...
Then something came to mind. I glanced around. "Where are Hikaru and Rin?"
She sighed. "I went on ahead so I'm not sure."
I blinked in surprise. "Really?" I looked over to Kaoru. We seemed to be thinking the same thing judging by his facial expression.
Did it finally happen?
As if on quo they came walking up, but not the way I was expecting. Instead they were arguing as usual. Now I see why Haruhi wanted to get away. Also why all the red team seemed to hurry out here. They were trying to get away from them. I guess it's still isn't the right time. Same for Tamaki and Haruhi...
I wonder when it will ever be the right time?
"Oh that's real nice. Well why don't you just go do that then." Hikaru said with a huff.
"I don't understand what your problem is. All I said was-"
"I don't want to hear it again. I know what you said." He said.
"Can you quit talking over me and let me finish a sentence please. God, your unbelievable." Rin said.
"Me! I'm not the one that thinks he's right about everything!"
"I don't think that! And what does that have to do with just happened? Nothing, that's what!"
"See, you answer your own questions. Know it all."
"That's because I know you would probably say something stupid."
"Are you calling me stupid?"
"Maybe, maybe not. Since I'm so smart I just know these things."
"Your such a-"
"Wow, what's going on here?" We turned to the blue team to see Kagura standing with his hands in his pockets. He glanced to me. I gave an awkward shrug. To be honest, I didn't want to get in the middle of this one. I had no idea what they were arguing about this time.
Did I want to know? Probably not.
"Well I'm not sure what's going on here, but lets save this energy for the actual events guys." He gave a grin over at Rin. "Right, Mazaki?" She ducked her head and blushed.
"Your right...sorry."
I glanced over to Hikaru who seemed to be giving Kagura a glare after seeing Rin's reaction to him. But somehow it seemed to be something more behind it. "Whatever." He mumbled as he turned to walk away.
Kagura rubbed his head. "He seems kind of moody..."
"Don't worry about him." Rin said as she glared at his receting back. "He's just an idiot." she raised her voice so Hikaru could hear her
Well then.
I was a bit confused on what was going on. What was happening in front of me? More importantly what happened between Rin and Hikaru?
I sighed. "Too much thinking."
"Why is everyone just standing around for?" Ana said as she walked over to the growing group of students. Chika came in behind her. "What's with this mood?"
"It's nothing." I said with a sigh, patting her head. She raised her brow.
Suddenly the intercom came on. "Everyone participating in the scavenger hunt needs to report at the starting line of the track. If you are not. You need to be sitting in the stands with your team. There is a flag with your teams color to tell you where your team should be. That is all."
"Well I should be heading over." Ana said.
Stephanie turned to her. "You are participating in the scavenger hunt?"
"Yeah, why?"
"As am I" She said.
Ana's expression turned into a smug grin. "Oh you are definitely going down."
"We shall see about that." They both took off for the starting in at full speed.
"I should be going too. " Rin said as she pushed up her glasses.
"Good luck." I called as she turned to leave. She gave me a smile before she left.
"Well I guess we should go find our seats since were not in this one." Kaoru suggested. I nodded as I looked over to Tamaki talking up a storm to Kyoya about something. He seemed to be worried. What was wrong? Everything seemed to be in order right? Then I realized something.
Hideo wasn't here.
Where was he? He's not a small guy so you would think he would be easy to spot. I tried looking for his lackeys, but I can't find them either. I pursed my lips. Where are they?
I blinked out of thought when I suddenly bumped into someone. "Ouff." They said. I realized that it was Makoto.
"Oh sorry Makoto I-I wasn't looking where I was going."
"Yeah, no kidding." He tapped his finger against my forehead. "Are you alright in the head Carson. You look spaced out."
"I'm just thinking..." I trailed off.
"Quit worrying about this." He said. "Everything is going to be fine. I'm here with you as well you know. I'm not useless." He frowned.
"I-I don't think that."
"Then stop acting as if we aren't here with you. Got it?" I nodded. "Good, now watch where your going before you kill someone."
"Yes sir." I said giving him a salute. He rolled his eyes and shook his head with a small smile on his lips.
I walked up the stands and took a seat next to Kaoru. "Hey look whose here." He said. I glanced over and saw Hideo walking in. He glanced up at me, but to my surprise instead of a glare he held a menacing smirk. I felt uncomfortable looking at him as well as a chill down my back. That was strange...
I looked over at the ginger when I felt him put his hand on mine. He squeezed it. "I promise everything will be alright."
"Yeah I know but-"
"No but's" He said firmly."If you don't start believing it I'm never letting go of your hand." Seeing the challenge in his eyes. I tried to break my hand free. To my surprise Kaoru is actually pretty strong.
"Kaoru-"
"Say it."
"Come on-"
"I can't hear you."
"I believe..."
"What?"
I said I believe."
"A little louder please?"
"I believe!" I yelled. The students around me stared at us. I blushed and turned around quickly as Kaoru let my hand go.
"See was that so hard." I gave him a harmless glare before smiling. I felt a warmness in my chest.
"Kaoru..."
"Hm?" He turned to me and saw my face. I tilted my head.
"Your my best friend and I love you for it. I mean it." His eyes went wide before going back to normal. His cheeks went pink.
"Are you trying to get revenge by embarrassing me?"
"No I just-"
"I get it, really." He said with a smile.
There was a happier atmosphere around us and I felt like we had come to an understanding.
"Look it's about to start." He said pointing to the field.
"Alright everyone are you ready for the battle of Ourans first ever sports festival! Our first event of the day is the scavenger hunt~" I blinked.
"Doesn't that voice sound familiar?" I asked.
Kaoru nodded. "Yeah it sounds like-"
Suddenly the ground shifted and Renge came up from the field sitting at circular table. She smiled as she spoke into a head mike. "Hello everyone I am Renge and I will be the announcer for you all today. I hope you have a great time!"
I sweat-dropped. "I don't know why I assumed that she was actually going to participate."
"This is Renge were talking about." Kaoru reasoned.
I shrugged. "I guess your right. This suits her better."
"Everyone are you ready?" The crowd cheered. "Alright, for those of you who don't know. They will run up to the first location and get a letter from there they will do as it says and receive the next assignment who ever finishes them all first receives a point for their team."
She stood up from her seat. "On your mark...get set...GO!"
*Break*
Ana took off as fast as she could. She glanced over to the others and looked to see her sister sprinting ahead of her. She wasn't as fast as Stephanie as much as it annoyed her, she wasn't. In away a way it mad her fell inferior to her twin, but she tried her best to keep that fact under-wraps.
She ran her hardest up to the table, but failed to notice that her sister froze in her place as she opened the letter. Ana grinned as she opened up the envelope. She stared down at the paper with wide eyes.
Find someone you love.
"What...is...THIS!" She yelled waving the note up at Renge. "Is this some kind of sadist joke, because I'm not a masochist and it's not funny!"
"A contestant don't seem to be happy with their first task. I wonder how the rest of the hunt will go if they can't even accept the first."
"Don't talk as if I'm not here!" Ana yelled.
"Well you'd better hurry. Looks like the others are already on the move." She said. She turned to see that Renge was right. A Rin another girl and herself were already on the move. The girl seemed to be quite flustered with the prompt.
Then a thought came to mind. I can just get Piglet! She turned to the stands her older sister was suppose to be in but she wasn't there. She was already on the move with Stephanie.
"Aw come on!" She yelled out.
Stephanie grinned back at her. "Better luck next time."
Kristal gave her a sympathetic look. "Sorry!"
She turned to the crowd. Who could she pick without it turning into a misunderstanding? Chika was a defiant no. There's no way he would face all the embarrassment that this challenge would give. Her eyes scan the crowd until she saw the perfect one. Well, to her. She wasn't so sure on how he was going to take it.
She jumped over the table and climbed into the stands. She then ran across the bleachers and landed directly in front of the ginger she need. "Koala you like me, right?"
He blinked at her. "Yeah?" Wasn't exactly sure how to take that response.
"And we're friends?"
"Yes..." Still unsure.
"Then I need you, okay?"
"Alright." I'll take that.
She put out her hand for him he took as she pulled him up. "Come on let's go!"
They ran down the stairs as she pulled him on to the track. "We're pretty far behind." He stated.
Ana huffed. "I know, stupid Stephanie." She grumbled.
Kaoru glanced over to her. "So what was the prompt exactly, just grab someone and run?"
"If that was the case I would have gotten someone else." She mumbled.
"Wow I'm really feeling the love." He said with a chuckle.
"Exactly." She said, looking over at him.
"Hm?"
"Love...I was suppose to get someone I...love..." She said.
He only stared at her. "So you...me?"
"Don't think so highly of yourself, alright?" He noticed her cheeks getting red. "I...just need someone to run with and I didn't want everyone getting the wrong idea if I chose them...that's all!"
He blinked at her. "Okay?"
His one word response seemed to tick her off and fluster her more. She pulled his arm. "Whatever lets just go..."
They went through each letter on to find the next clue. Though she wouldn't say it directly to him after what had just happened, but he was fun to be around. She didn't even noticed that they were about to cross the finish line in last place. Which she hated with a passion especially if it was against her sister.
"Finishing in last place, Ana and Kaoru an interesting pair if I may say so myself." Renge said.
Ana slowly looked up at the girl. She needs to stop saying unnecessary things. She shook her head and saw that Rin chose Haruhi to run with. Of course she wasn't going to take Hikaru because let's face it. Their both being brain dead idiots. Though they both seemed pretty upset with each other earlier.
She shrugged. I'll just ask Rin later.
She turned to Kaoru. "Hey Koala." He glanced over to her. She rubbed her arm in an awkward manner. "Thanks for coming...even though we lost."
He smiled. "It was still fun so don't worry about it.
She gave a playful grin. "Yeah, I am pretty fun aren't I?"
He shook his head. "Are you always this conceded?"
"No sometimes I can be obnoxious too." Reminding him of one of their last conversations.
"I noticed." He said in a playful dry tone.
Ana laughed. "I try my best."
"Hey guys." They turned to see Kristal walking up. At that moment Kaoru put all of his attention on her as if she was the only person there. Ana raised her brow.
It was the same as before.
"Sorry you lost Ana." She said.
Ana shook her head. "Silly Piglet this is a war. Your not suppose to say sorry to the enemy."
Kaoru blinked. "But you just took me with you and I'm apart of her team. Doesn't that make me the enemy too?"
Ana froze as they both stared at her with a questioning gaze. She looked away with a bit of heat in her cheeks. "There are exceptions to the rule. You can use your opponents to your advantage."
Kristal sweat-dopped as she patted Ana's head. "Sure, sure."
"Attention, everyone participating in long jump please report to the pit please. Boys will be going first, that is all."
Kristal smiled at them with a nervous sigh. "Well I better get going. Wish me luck."
"Hey." Kaoru said touching her shoulder with an affectionate smile. "You'll be fine."
Ana blinked at him. "Thanks." Kristal said, returning the smile before running off.
He watched her until she was gone and slowly turned back to Ana as she stared at him. "What?"
Ana sighed as she ruffled her long hair and closed her eyes. Should I leave it alone?...hm...
She turned to walk away but took his arm. "Walk with me." He wasn't sure where this was going but followed her. They walked until they were at the outer edge of the track.
"So what are we doing over here." He asked.
She crossed her arms and looked out over the field. "I didn't want any nosy people listening in."
He blinked at her. "Is this really that important."
She shrugged. "Yes and no depending on who you ask, but I don't think you want to do that."
"...why is that?" He asked with curiosity in his tone. Though there was nervousness in his eyes.
Ana didn't speak for a moment. "Koala bear you've been friends with Kristal for a while now right?"
He froze for a moment but tried to play it off with a smile. "Yeah I think so."
"And you like her right?"
"It's like we're repeating earlier." He said. She only stared at him before he sighed. "Yeah, of course I do she's my friend."
Ana brushed her fingers through her hair before she put her hand on her hip. "Now Kaoru I'll tell you the truth when you and your brother are acting the same I can't tell you apart at all. But I know for certain that he's an idiot when it comes to his feelings, but you, you know exactly how you feel. And I think I do too."
He narrowed his eyes. "What are you trying to say?"
She glanced up at him as he looked at her expectantly. "Are you in love with my sister?"
They stared at each other and it looked like he was actually surprised for a moment that she had said it.
"Well am I right?" She said tilting her head.
He let a small chuckle. "I thought I was hiding it pretty well. I guess I was wrong"
She said nothing at she kept her eyes on his. He looks so sad...
Well all the action and stuff is going to happen in the next chapter sorry this one isn't very, you know, good. Please review it though. That would be nice.
