Meditation

When learning to control the mind, it is always useful to meditate and focus the mind.

How to meditate:

Get yourself into a generally comfortable and relaxed position

it's generally best to sit on the floor or some other hard surface, so as not to fall asleep during meditation

Slowly relax each part of your body, beginning with your head and working all the way to your toes, breathing deeply while you do do

Once your body in a physical state of relaxation, begin to empty your mind of worries

if it is too difficult to completely empty your mind of thought, focus on a singular trivial thought: the weather, how a goldfish swims etc.

Continue to focus on this one singular thought while keeping all your muscles relaxed and your breathing deep and steady

Continue for several minutes; the longer, the better

*Meditate whenever you are able, in a quiet and lonely place where you will be virtually undisturbed. The more often you are able to do this, the easier the discipline and control of your thoughts become.

Occlumency

The three most important aspects to remember when doing Occlumency

mental

mental fortitude

visulisation

Occlumency is all about controlling and protecting your thoughts

without focus, there is no consistency to mental barriers

without fortitude, there is no strength to mental barriers

without visualising, there is no structure to mental barriers

Visualising in Occlumency

When visualising mental walls and barriers in the mind, you must become creative

if the walls don't need to be hidden, put up whatever kind you want

hidden walls must seem as though they are merely part of the maze

Complicated minds are like mazes. The Legilimens navigates the maze of the Occlumens' mind. The more complicated the mind, the more complicated the maze.

Barriers and walls to hide thoughts must be built into the maze of the mind.

the easiest way to do this is use half truths; build thoughts (i.e. lies or deceptions) around bits of the truth, putting up walls around those bits of the truth you don't want discovered

build false paths in your maze: thoughts that are not truth and not real memories i.e. manufactured thoughts

do not half-construct lies and manufactured thoughts; the excellence is in the detail

Focus and Fortitude in Occlumency

While visualising is important in constructing mental walls, without the focus, the cracks will show and the deceptions will be more easily discovered

meditation is the best way to strengthen mental focus; practice will enable you to focus on Occlumency in even the most distressing situations

Fortitude of the mind adds strength to your mental barriers and will stop people from breaking in more easily

while meditation and practice are great ways to build up mental fortitude, it won't mean much if you don't have an iron resolve

fortitude is all about willpower and determination to hide what you know

this can be strengthened by certain mental exercises (to be learned at a later date)

Magical Binding Spells

Sometimes human thoughts and/or emotions and memories can be magically bound to inanimate objects

all research conducted on this subject so far have not shed light on any connections with Dark Magic and Magical Binding Spells, despite suspicions and protests

unlike spells for creating Horcruxes and other Dark Magical items, Magical Binding Spells require no sacrifices or compensation and can be broken at any time

the dangers of Magical Binding Spells, however, include: the Witch or Wizard becoming to psychologically dependent on the item, so that when the spell is broken, they are traumatised or psychologically damaged; the magical item being destroyed while the Witch or Wizard is in the process of using it, causing mental trauma in some cases; a gateway being constructed in which other can communicate with the individual via the magical item (the nature of this connection is unclear)

Rules for the Use of Magical Binding Spells

The Witch or Wizard mustn't use the magical item at a constant rate

The Witch or Wizard is advised not to tell several of the magical item

The Witch Wizard is advised to keep the magical item in a safe place, where others would not be able to reach it and it will not be damaged or destroyed

The Witch or Wizard must be over the age of 17 to use a Magical Binding Spell, unless under the direction of their professors (with heavy supervision necessary) or under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Magic

The Magical Binding Spell must not be used to deliberately create a connection between two or more individuals

No more than one Witch or Wizard is to be bound to one magical item

The Witch or Wizard is advised never to be bound to more than one magical item at a time

Magical Binding Spells are not to be taught to Witches and Wizards under the age of 15 unless under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Magic

Wizarding families are advised not to keep more than a few magical items of this nature in their living space

Wizarding students are not to be in possession of magical items of this nature on school property, unless under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Magic

Using Magical Binding Spells

When in use, a Magical Binding Spell, or MBS, uses the magical properties in memories to create a connection to an inanimate object

Just as memories can be transferred from the mind to pensieves, jars or other receptacles, so too can they be transferred and stored in inanimate objects

The nature of the spell used (incantation, wand gestures, object) determines the natures of the memory transference; this can include direct thought transference

The most difficult form of MBS is a transference of memories (or direct thought) into written word

this requires extreme focus and a more direct and literal storing of the thoughts and memories

once transferred into written word, the thoughts and memories no longer possess magical properties

this means that any words transcribed via an MBS will remain as written words once the MBS has been broken

therefore, focus is integral for transference accuracy

MBS Incantations

For a direct transference of thoughts/memories into written word – Memorium Ritalius

used only for an individual transference and does not create a bond between the spell/caster and the object (in this case, the book or page being written in or on)
