Chapter 11
Darcy was cut off by the sound of a knock on the door. She looked at her husband and then to the door wondering who would be disturbing them so early in the morning. Loki got up making sure his wife was covered before going to see who was banging on his door.
Upon opening it he found a guard who told him that the king wished to speak to both he and his wife in the throne room immediately. He closed the door and turn to look at his wife worry etched on his face. Darcy who saw his look immediately removed herself from the bed and went to her husband uncaring that she was completely bare to his gaze.
"What is it?" she asked after coming to stand before him.
"We have been summoned to the throne room. Odin wishes to speak to us. Though I have no I idea as to why," he said pulling her into his embrace.
"Well, we better not keep him waiting then," she replied extracting herself from his hold and looking around for something to wear.
Loki watched as his wife looked through his wardrobe to find something suitable to wear and then with a wave of his hand she was dressed in his favorite gown of hers. It was a royal blue gold trimmed medieval style dress that she had worn many times in the past several months and it complimented her eyes. "What?" she exclaimed looking down at herself and then back at her husband who was grinning at her mischievously.
"You do not exactly have anything here to wear my love," he said walking up behind her and pulling her into his arms.
"I know but…" she began and then remembered why she had needed something to wear in the first place, "We better hurry or we will be late and I would hate to keep him waiting," she finished in a rush.
He dressed quickly and then together they made their way to the throne room. They entered the room to find it nearly empty of everyone vut a few guards and nobles. They were confused but they both brushed away the thought. They soon found themselves before the throne of Odin facing the king who sat upon it.
"You summoned us," Loki stated coolly.
"Yes I did I have a request of you and your wife," Odin told them.
"And that would be?" Loki asked though he had an idea as to what it was Odin was about to ask of him.
"Your brother has refused the throne of Asgard in favor of Midgard and the mortal he loves. That leaves you to take the throne."
"Odin, I do not wish to have the throne, I have my own now. I do not wish to give it up in favor of Asgard. After all, I was never wanted here on Asgard and I am needed on Midgard."
Odin could only nod. He had somehow known that Loki would refuse the request but he had to ask anyway. He spared a glance at the woman whom had defied him the day before. She was looking at him with a strange expression on her face.
"And what do you think of my request, Midgardian?"
Darcy was startled that he was speaking to her but answered him nevertheless, "I stand with my husband on this, your Majesty. Had you treated him as an equal to Thor as he grew up I am sure that his answer would have been different, as I know he would be a good king for Asgard, but I can see why you have asked this of him. Thor loves Midgard as much as Loki does now and neither would want to leave it. Now the question is who will take your place now that they have both refused the throne?"
Odin wondered that too. With Loki's refusal of the Asgardian throne there was no one else to take it. Had Frigga's pool been wrong for once? Just as he was about to make a second plea Frigga herself came into to the room.
"Frigga, talk some sense into these two. You assured me that the pool had seen a positive outcome for my request and yet they have refused the throne."
Frigga only smiled and shook her head. She had told him that the outcome would be positive but the pool had not lied. There would be a new king on the throne of Asgard but it would not be either of her sons but one of her grandsons that would take the throne. "I know what I told you Husband, but I never said that Loki would say yes to your inquiry. In fact, I knew that both he and Thor would refuse the throne in favor of Midgard and the women they loved. However, it will not be one of your sons that would rule after you but one of your grandsons." She revealed with a smile.
This took each and every one of them by surprise. Loki and Darcy looked at each other before Darcy asked in a voice barely above a whisper. "Exactly whose son will it be?"
Frigga looked at Darcy and smiled before answering her daughter-in-law. "Yours."
