A/N: 4/5 everyone! I might not manage one more, going back to school tomorrow. Will do 2 next weekend to make up for it!
Alexa POV
We settled down in the library, me, Zach, Cammie, Bex, Liz, Macey, Mrs Morgan, Dad and Seth.
"So, this Order of Fortis..." Bex broke the silence. Seth was the next to speak, holding an ice pack over his right eye.
"It's an organisation made against the Circle of Cavan. We protect whoever they might have their eye on. Which at the moment is Alexa and Cammie." He explained.
"But you went to Blackthorne though, you and Zach." I asked.
"Yep." Zach didn't at all seem happy about that.
"Okay, what happened with you guys?" Cammie asked. The tension between Zach and Seth broke.
"We had, a, falling out if you will." Seth shrugged. Zach glared at him but said nothing.
"Yeah," he said finally. "A falling out." That's not what it sounded like, I thought, but didn't say it out loud.
Zach and Seth kept staring at each other, flinching when one or the other made a move to do anything. I listened to Dad talking about Fortis and what had happened but I was only half listening. I was too busy thinking about something Dad taught me when I was younger. 'Notice things'. It might be obvious, a spy should know that anyway. But that was the last thing he said to be before he disappeared.
So I thought back to when I first noticed Seth, was there another person there?
"Why now?" I say out loud, Dad stops and stares at me, I'm looking at Seth.
"You called me Tail Catcher. You knew I'd notice you, but why did you make it known to me that you were there?" Seth blinked at me.
"Oh, that." He said, Zach seemed to smile that Seth had been found out.
"I had been following you anyway, Joe said you wouldn't catch me. Nobody does." Zach cough something that sounded like show off. I ignored it.
"So what happened." I asked.
"There was a Circle member tailing you, with a gun. You hadn't noticed so I intervened." Seth said. He saved my life, I realised.
"Thanks." I smile. There's a pause, I see Zach role his eyes and cough. Without looking at him I elbow him in the gut.
"Can you two even be in the same room as each other?" Mrs Morgan asked impatiently, it was the first thing she'd said since we got to the library.
Seth scratched the back of his head and looked to Zach. "Sure." Zach answered, though, not very believably.
"What are we even doing?" Liz looked up from her laptop that she was using.
"Figuring out the Circles next move, I think?" Bex frowned and turned to Dad.
"I thought we were talking about Fourtis?" Macey looked also to Dad for guidance.
"Both are correct." He said. I tilted my head.
"What is the Circles next move?" I asked.
"Killing you, I presume, if what Seth said is right." Cammie said. Zach snorted.
I glared at him. "Why would they want to kill me?" I looked to Dad, who usually knew the answer.
"To get to me, so I would go after them." He said, I swallowed the lump in my throat.
"But you aren't stupid enough to go after them." I said. "Are you?"
"If they killed you I would hunt them down." Dad admitted. I looked at my feet. Would he really do that?
I hoped not. "But we're safe here, aren't we?" Liz asked, typing very fast on her computer.
"Maybe." Zach said and looked to Seth. "Are we safe here?" Seth ran his hands through his hair.
"Beats me. I was just beaten up by a girl, so?" He waved his ice pack in the air. I smiled.
"I'm glad you're embarrassed by that." I said. "This school has over 300 spies in it, we'll be safe enough hopefully."
"Hopefully." Bex and Cammie agreed at the same time. Macey walked over to Liz.
"Guys." She ushered us over. "Liz got a track on a car that keeps driving past the school, this is it's 23rd lap." I took a deep breath and looked at the laptop screen.
"Circle member I guess?" Bex said, stating the obvious.
"Of course." I said. "Who else could it be?"
"Jonas and or Grant?" Seth suggested. I hadn't thought of that.
"Wouldn't they have signaled us by now or something?" Zach asked.
"I don't know." Dad admitted and zoomed in on the car.
"What's the reg plate?" Mrs. Morgan asked.
"Ermm.. I can't tell, it's blurred." Liz squinted at the screen and tried to see the plate.
"I don't have a clue." She said after a minute of silence. I turned and walked to the back of the library to the stain glass window it had. The car went past again, there was something sticking out of the window, pointing at me.
I ducked just as the bullet went off, smashing the window. Seth exchanged a look with Dad before running to me and dragging me behind the library desk. More bullets sounded along with girls screaming.
"Stay down." Seth instructed me and looked out over the desk. Men and women in black were coming in through the smashed windows, glass was every where. He ducked down next to me, bullets flying over head, Tina fell down in front of me, I didn't know her, only what Cammie had filled me in on at tea.
"Tina!" I yelled, she gripped her shoulder, blood all over her white shirt and hands. I crawled forward over broken glass to her, ignoring Seth's shouts.
I dragged her into cover. "We have to help her." I told him.
"They aren't after her, everyone else is just casualty." He said, I felt tears fall down my cheeks. They were after me. Everyone else was expendable. I got up and ran to the library door. Seth followed me, so did the Circle members.
