Alexa POV

Waiting in the car was so boring. I had taken apart my gun and reassembled in 6 times already, Zach and the others still weren't back. Townsend was, however, back. He hadn't gone all the way into the hospital. "They'll be back soon." He said. I rolled my eyes.

"Sure." I clicked my gun into place for the 7th time and slammed it down on the dash board, making a half asleep Seth jump. I got out my seat in the van and stretched my legs.

"I should go back." Townsend said.

"Maybe you should, we can take care of ourselves." Seth leaned out the back of the van.

"Yes, we can." I said. Townsend considered momentarily.

He said: "Fine. But you two keep watch. Okay?"

"Okay." We both said. The minutes stretched on after Townsend left, I sat next to Seth, making small talk to pass the time. It was cold and boring.

"You okay?" He asked me after we had been sat in silence for 4 minutes and 36 seconds, yes, that's how bored I was.

"Fine." I shuffled in my seat, trying to get comfy or warm. He took off his coat.

"No, you're going to freeze to death." He slung his coat over my shoulders, it was much better.

"Thanks." I said awkwardly, pulling it around myself. The thick fabric against my skin made me feel instantly warmer. Another 26 seconds went by before Seth tried a conversation.

"So you and Zach... What's your story?" He asked, resting his head in his hands. There was goose bumps on his bare arms and he shivered. I felt guilty for having the warm jacket.

"I've known him a few years." I said, licking my dry lips. I didn't like getting into the topic of me and Zach, we weren't together, never could be or had been, but it was like treading on thin ice. The stuff we'd been through together.

"Something you don't want to talk about." Seth clucked his tongue. I really didn't want to talk about it, especially not what happened in Scotland last summer, that was a no go. For everyone. "Were you two..." I understood what he was hinting at.

"No!" I screwed up my face. "No." I said quieter, almost laughing at the question. Seth blinked at my response, that clearly wasn't what it had looked like to him.

"Okay, just wanted to know." He seemed to relax a bit more, I hadn't noticed how on edge he was till now.

"Why?" I asked.

"Me and Zach have always been uneven, I just don't ever want to step out of line with him, again." I caught sight of what looked like a slash on the back of his arm, it went up under his shirt and seemed to come out up the back of his neck and into his hair line. I couldn't see how far it went.

"I'll tell you what our story is." I decided. He smiled. "If you tell me first." The smile fell and he shook his head.

"Fine." He decided at long last. "You know who his mum is right?" I nodded, of course I did. She had been hunting me for the past few years.

"Well, basically I mentioned something about her profession that he didn't really want me to say. We fought, I won, gave him a black eye and a broken wrist." I blinked, I hadn't known what I was expecting but it wasn't that.

"Oh." Was all I could say.

"Okay, so, what's your story?" Seth grinned.

"I met Zach a few months after I'd been on my own. I had nothing and no one, he recognised my last name and warned me about his mum and the Circle. He found me a place to stay and built me up my new identity, hair dye and contact lenses, all of that. He saved my life." I said in one breath. "But we never dated." Our eyes locked.

"What ever you say Tail Catcher." He laughed and I elbowed him in my stomach.

"Oi!" I smiled.

"See, we can get along." Seth said, I smirked slightly.

"Yeah, when we're waiting to see whether our friends are dead of not." I gulped, pulling Seth's warm jacket closer to my body for warmth. The broken windows of our van didn't do well to keep it warm. So much for starting a new school with a Circle free life, it was all in ruins.

Seth's laughing tone fell. "We'll all get through it." He looked me in the eyes, his face was too close for comfort.

"I don't know..." I breathed. His face was too close, I could feel his breath lightly on my face. That's when he leaned in and kissed me. I didn't expect it, it was Seth, I hardly knew him. But, I kissed back anyway, he tasted like mint. It was so odd, I hadn't kissed anyone before. Soon he had cupped my face in his hands, that was new. I didn't know what to do.

Seth quickly pulled back, looking away like he was embarrassed. I swallowed a lump in my throat. "Seth..." He avoided my gaze.

"They've been gone too long, I'll go check." He decided and opened the van door. I grabbed his shoulder.

"What about me?" I asked. He shrugged my off. Rude!

"You were practically assembling that gun in your sleep Alexa, you should be fine." Seth leaped out onto the dark gravel floor and walked to the warm, inviting glow of the Hospital.

Leaving me alone.
