Laying in a field of luscious green grass lay a young male teen, his hair matched that of the most radiant amethyst and his now flickering eyes were a shining blue. As he rose to a staggering six feet you could see he only wore a thin white dress shirt and a pair of black jeans.
The young man was incredibly confused, as the last memory he had was him driving to a wedding out in the countryside and falling asleep in the backseat and then poof... Here he was. "What the heck… where am I?" he began to take in the sight before him, trees taller than any he had seen before rivalling the height of the redwood trees he had so much about from his nature loving little brother Seth. the light was caressing the leaves as it created beautiful rays shining through into the small field where he once laid.
Hearing a rushing noise, he turned around and spotted a small creek rushing down from a gigantic cloud covered mountain. Realizing his thirst, he began to head over to the water but was stopped as he tripped and fell over a thick old book that had been laying right next to him.
"…ow… why is there a book in the middle of nowhere?" talking to himself as he flinches from the pain as his ankle begins to swell from the sudden turn. "And of course, I twisted my ankle… Haaa… why me? damn book." Grabbing the book, he can see its not in any sort of good condition, and as he opens it the cover peels off and turns to dust.
"Yeesh! This thing must be ancient turning to dust like that… now what are you hiding in here you damn book?" as he opens the book he notices a very faded entry with only a few readable letters.
Th.s I. For my y….g friend Leonidas Varos
You w..hed f.r this so he.e it is
t.e Lost magic: Arc of Embodiment
To say Leon was confused was an understatement, not only did he apparently have someone claiming to be his friend but they are also trying to prank him with a book of 'magic' from his favorite show. "How did they even know that my full name was Leonidas? I haven't been called that since I was born…"
As he re-read the entry he couldn't help but feel as though he was forgetting something, as if the words in the book weren't lying so he continued to read through the mystery book with each page imprinting itself in his mind unable to forget the contents it contained, after what felt like an hour he hadn't even passed the first chapter explaining the process in which mana is used and he couldn't shake that feeling like he had forgotten something important that would come back to bite him later…
Reading the next entry in the book had him shaking, praying that it wasn't true, the memory he had forgotten reappeared in his mind as he read on.
Now Leon, the reason you were given this power was for you to have a method of living in this new world of yours. You are truly a brave soul to have impressed me like you have, taking down that shooter and saving your family… not many souls I have encountered in a millennia could hold an ounce if that courage.
His memory of that wedding appeared in his mind. He was talking with his sister and his little brother when a man ran into the house they were having the wedding in screaming at his sister for 'lying to her fans and being a farce of a chef. Something that couldn't help but enrage Leon as he truly cared for his family but most of all his sister, after their parents had left the trio of siblings she was the one that stepped up and helped her kid brothers to grow, she graduated high school early and they moved into a small apartment barely big enough for the three of them as she went to a culinary college to create a career for herself to support them both.
So, when he saw that bastard aim his gun at her he did the only thing he could think of,
He jumped.
And after he awoke he was in front of a Gandalf look-alike and was given the choice of a new life for his bravery and a gift to help him in his next life.
Sitting in a stupor for a while he shook his head and continued the book.
Another hour had passed as he read on, he was now learning how to feel the mana he supposedly should posses, he had begun to feel flickers of it like trying to find something in a deep pool only to have your fingers brush up on it only to have to resurface for air before you could grab it, but finally after his tenth try he had finally felt the stream of mana flowing through himself and followed it to his core.
Opening his eyes and keeping the feeling of mana in his mind the world around him seemed even more beautiful and bright every detail enhanced and enriched bringing back that childish wonder of the world he had once lost. "This is incredible! I've never been able to see this well without my glasses before! Hell, I can see even farther than I could before my vision went bad! Ha Haha haha!" he finished yelling out to the world around him as he started to full-heartedly laugh, feeling incredibly close to the world around him.
Calming himself, he began to read on in the book finally getting to the last few pages containing the part about the lost magic itself, thanking whoever had written this book that the most important pages weren't damaged and he could read them perfectly.
Now Leon, this magic is all about your imagination every detail on what your trying to create has to be there or the creation in question wont turn out well.
Take a basic iron sword for example, picture the hilt what do you see? The leather wrapping? The guard needs to be sturdy enough to block a strike but the iron itself had to have been forged otherwise the iron will be brittle and break off, the blade needs to be sharp and hard but not brittle or it will fail you, now try and make one remember to its important to focus more on the structure than it is the design this is a trial run after all.
Setting the book down beside him, Leon closes his eyes and begins to picture the master sword in his mind as he knows the details of that sword better than any other.
Going unnoticed by Leon, a faint blue glow begins to grow in front of him as his magic starts to create the deep purple M-shaped hilt adorned with a golden diamond shape in the center, rising from the hilt the blade itself started to form inch by inch an etching of the Triforce begins to appear and the blades growth begins to slow down.
Leon had begun to struggle with his magic having never used it before this instance the intricate design on the blade had taken much of his mana and was making Leon extremely tired to the point he was ready to collapse. As his magic wavered the swords creation had halted and regressed to only the well-designed hilt a testament to his incredible imagination unfortunately, without the blade the hilt was useless.
"Gah-ha-hoo… damn… that really takes a lot out of a person… hooo… okay lets save trying intricate stuff like that for later, man I could really use a burger right about now." Flopping onto his back he began to imagine the feast he had missed at his older sister Amelia's wedding. She had specifically had a chef prepare him a gourmet fast food style meal. (He had the best older sister and thanks to her being a world-wide celebrity chef, she knew the worlds best chefs. And no matter what he would take that bullet every time.)
As he pictured the meal he was missing out on, his slowly recovering mana began to create the meal and softly set it on the ground next to him, rustling the grass and making him look towards the noise. "What the-" not even pausing to question how it had gotten there Leon immediately began to stuff his face with the most world-shattering burger he had ever tasted. It was if his entire set of tastebuds had been enhanced so he could differentiate every little flavor the burger had possessed inside. Just like his sister used to make.
as he ate he never even noticed the tears streaming down his face nor the periodic sob that managed to escape.
Opening the book to its final page he began to read once more,
Now my young friend, this new life of yours is something to be treasured not squandered thinking of the past.
As some consolation and to help you end that last chapter of your life, I am bestowing two final gifts upon you.
First, your sister and younger brother went on to do incredible things in your honor.
Amelia had eventually become known as your worlds greatest chef and eventually naming her son after you in your honor in order to keep you close in her heart.
And your brother Seth, he went and joined the government hoping to help combat the ridiculous amount of gun violence in your era, eventually even helping to create many gun control laws to prevent anyone having to go through what he did that night.
Now, for your other gift. When you told me the magic you had wished to wield I was, confused at first why you had created such flaws in its design until you told me of where it had originated.
So, I have deemed those flaws irrelevant, when you eventually become good enough to create creatures and living things, they wont be mere shades like the wizard you told me about had wielded this magic.
No, your magic will be the True Arc of Embodiment…
Your creations will be able to enact every sort of effect you can imagine as long as you posses the mana to create it and, any creature or living thing you create will truly be alive
It will posses true sentience or depending on the creature, Sapience instead.
Now with this, I will have given you everything you need in order to use your newfound power
I wish you luck my young friend,
-Arcturus the Creator
'…I-I'll be able to do what?!' freezing as he tried to wrap his head around the ramifications of this news, Leon couldn't tell if he was terrified or overjoyed. The power of true creation is what he now held… once he learned how to properly wield it that is.
Snapping out of his thoughts, he realized he had recovered enough mana for another attempt to create something. 'Man… its been around an hour to gain back all that mana, maybe I should make something to help me recover faster?' as he let his imagination run free, he decided upon a simple pendant shaped like a tree adorned with green crystal for its foliage that would glow slightly whenever his mana had finished recovering.
Concentrating on the object and willing his effects into the design, a light blue light once again appeared and the pendant started to form, thankfully since the object he was creating was much smaller it had actually required less mana then the sword and upon completion, the light began to fade as the pendant formed with a simple leather cord to hang itself on Leon's neck.
As he studied his first working creation he couldn't help but be giddy at the idea of his newfound power. As he could already feel the pendant working swiftly to gather mana or rather ethernano from the air and converting it to mana in his body. Swiftly the amount he had lost which he estimated would have taken at least half an hour only took a few minutes to recover as he watched the tree begin to glow signaling his creation truly worked as intended.
Staring in awe Leon could only mutter a few words in awe, "this is… incredible…" stuck in place as he watched the light from the tree fade away after a few moments having finished its job of alerting Leon of its purpose being fulfilled.
Shaking himself out of his awe and giddiness, he realized that it was already mid afternoon and he had nowhere to sleep, and not wanting to sleep out in the wilderness that contained creatures he couldn't even begin to think of, he went looking in the forest to find a spot in the trees he could sleep in for the night.
Xxxxxx
A few hours had passed and night had fallen swiftly due to the spring season, thankfully it was a rather warm night up in the small tree base Leon had managed to cobble together in time and ascend before a group of what he could only assume were Vulcans camped out directly below him for the night.
'Fuck me… of course they probably smelt me… maybe this would be a good time to make something to hide my presence?'
Quickly Leon began designing a small wristband with a black side and a white side, that when flipped to the white would not effect him at all, but when flipped to the opposing side would hide his presence entirely.
And after quietly swearing at what was once a slight glow in the daylight but appeared as a goddamn beacon in the night, he quickly slipped the band on his wrist and flipped it to activate his stealth mode thankfully right before one of the Vulcan grunts climbed up to his 'home'.
As the green ape-like creature began sniffing around, Leon slowly shifted back not wanting to risk finding out what would happen if the monster bumped into him while he was invisible.
"It smell like mage … but where go-o-o?" the creature finished with its animalistic cry as it looked around pausing for a moment right where Leon laid before continuing past him and squinting its eyes in annoyance, "no mage chief!"
Leon laid still holding his breath in fear of being discovered, watching as the Vulcan slowly began to descend back below onto the forest floor with the rest of its group.
Waiting a moment longer he peaked over the edge of his tree base, only to see all but one Vulcan gone and staring directly up at his shoddy fort causing Leon's breath to hitch terrified he might've been discovered.
Thankfully the Vulcan shook its head and followed after its kin further into the forest.
After a few minutes of waiting in fear, Leon finally released the breath he didn't realize he had been holding, "hoooh… thank fucking Arcturus they didn't find me… I damn near pissed myself there…" Leon's ego had been thoroughly checked in that encounter as he realized even though he had the potential to do incredible things, doesn't mean squat if he cant do anything now. He would need to train his ass off and increase his mana supply in order to truly become powerful thankfully he had time before the true terror of the fairy tail world would begin.
Leon had been de-aged slightly be Arcturus into his 18-year-old self, and by the time he turned 19 the 'canon' of fairy tail would only just be starting so his current list of things had become
Find his way out of this damn forest without being consumed by one of those damn apes, find his way towards the only guild someone in his position should and then, Train. His. Goddamn. Ass. Off, and become incredibly powerful…
Pausing his internal plotting, Leon become intensely aware that he was hungry once more and since he didn't have the energy required to make a meal that required that much mana to create he focused on his favorite late-night snack… strawberry pocky.
"Oh?! ho-ho-ho, I swear everything I make tastes great!" excitedly whispering to himself as he begins to munch on his snack, before yawning and creating a toothbrush with toothpaste on it for him to brush his teeth and then dissolving it back into his mana pool receiving only a third of the mana he used to create it.
Finally, the young teen was whisked away to realm of Morpheus as he fell asleep.
Xxxxx
Morning had come and gone and Leon had just finished the meditation that Arcturus had instructed him to do in order to start increasing his mana supply as it was one of the only two ways he was told, the other was to continuously near empty his supply by making things repeatedly which wouldn't be cost effective for him at this point until he could make more than one thing at a time.
Finally, he rose up from his makeshift shelter in the trees and made sure the coast was clear of any Vulcans that might've been lurking around still hunting for his scent.
Grabbing the small basic sword, he had made upon awakening as he had realized that if he did encounter them he would be defenseless as he currently wasn't good enough with his magic to create something that quickly nor could he yet create something without being in deep concentration.
Looking at the blade he made, it was truly basic nothing more than a replica of the imperial sword from Skyrim.
"Haaa, I would really have liked to use the master sword but I cant create anything that detailed yet maybe in a few weeks I can start adding that level of detail…" chuckling to himself as he paused, "oh I'm going to have so much fun making things! The amount of stuff I'm going recreate from games and shows! Its going to be a gamers wet dream… holy shit! I can create a portal gun… HOLY FUCK I CAN MAKE MASTER CHIEF'S ARMOR!" yelling out in joy filled excitement Leon couldn't help but be happy his life had lead him here even though he would never be able to be with his family anymore, something that had started to dampen his mood as he realized he had no one to share his incredible powers with now.
Slapping his cheeks to free himself from his darker thoughts, he began to brainstorm how he would find the way out of this forest until he slapped his forehead. "of course! I'll just make an arrow to guide me out of here!" quickly he closed his eyes and began activating his mana and started to imagine a large sign-like arrow to point him in the direction of whatever he was looking for and would float in the air guiding him to his destination.
As he finalized the design the light blue glow once again appeared and using a large chunk of his mana supply, almost as costly as the stealth band he had created, the yellow arrow fell out onto the ground as Leon wasn't quick enough to catch it this time. "I'm going to have to work on my reflexes if this happens every time I make something large."
Picking up the magic item, Leon began to envision the town he wanted to go to, Magnolia town!
Slowly the Arrow lifted itself out of Leon's arms, and he could feel a slow but steady trickle on his mana supply. "that's… weird? How come the arrow uses my mana but my wristband doesn't? Are they not both magical in nature? Or is the bracelet science based? Or does it have some sort of magic battery… it did take more energy than the pendant… bah I can figure that out later once I've gotten out of this damn forest!" he cried out in excitement expecting his journey not to take all that long… the young mage would soon realize his error.
Xxxxx
"ahhhhhhhhhh…. I don't want to see anymore trees! Come one fate! Give me a bone! Anything! I'm so goddamn bored!" Leon cried out as he trampled along behind his guiding arrow, the boredom of doing nothing but walking alone for hours has deprived him of any sort of entertainment he prayed he could've had. And unfortunately, fate was going to play another prank on him rather soon.
Leon's rather… idiotic outburst caused the forest to quiet around him, alerting a nearby member of the Vulcan species he had tried to hide from the previous night, as it came bursting through the bushes on the side of the path Leon was walking along.
Panicking at the sudden appearance of the creature, Leon flipped his wristband to try and hide his presence but didn't realize the flaw he had imbued in the magical device. If the creature he was attempting to hide from knew where he was before it flipped it wouldn't work to hide him from them.
The giant Ape saw Leon flip the band and snarled, sensing the inherent mana in the band figuring that's how Leon managed to avoid him the previous night. "Stupid mage, you no going to run now!" the ape-like creature shouted out as it charged forwards intent on absorbing Leon to gain his mana for himself, any magic he gained from it would just be a bonus to the Vulcan.
Realizing something was wrong, Leon checked his wrist to make sure he had flipped the band only to see he had indeed flipped it, and began to panic as he saw the giant beast getting closer incredibly fast, so he drew his sword, and attempted to calm himself down in order to fight the hulking ape.
Nodding to himself Leon decided he would have to try creating a distraction if he was going to win this, looking back at the ape and glaring he shouted, "Come on ugly! Your to stupid to beat me! I bet you couldn't even pour piss out of a boot with the instructions written on the heel!"
Clearly Leon now realized he had either fucked up horribly or this was going great he couldn't tell which it would end up being as the Vulcan began screeching like a monkey and charged faster than before.
"Well shit… okay time for firepower!" talking to himself as he began his first attempt at creating something while his eyes were open, he tried to concentrate while watching the hulking figure of the ape charge closer and closer to him, thankfully he managed to get his magic to co-operate at the last second as he created a large amount of fire to blast the ape far away past the treeline.
Sadly, he forgot to factor the fact that he was the same distance from the blast as the ape… and promptly blew himself back a few dozen feet into a tree, slamming into it arm first sounding off with a loud crack of his arm in the unmistakable noise of a bone breaking, knocking Leon out from the sheer pain inflicted to himself all at once.
He awoke rather quickly as the pain that knocked him out was quick to awaken him.
"MMMMM! FUCK ME! GODDAMN IT LEON! HOW COULD YOU BE SO FUCKING STUPID! OF COURSE THE EXPLOSION WOULD HIT YOU TOO!" freezing in pain every time he so much as tensed his arm. "Oh, its broken, broken! God damn! Hooo that feels like goddamn shit! Okay just gotta concentrate for a few seconds! Make yourself a sling and a cast just a simple sling and cast!" try as he might Leon was wracked with too much pain to use his magic properly only managing to create a simple roll of bandage.
"Shit, this will have to do…" grabbing the bandage with his left hand he searched for two branches he could use to set his arm all the while he was wracked with pain, not wanting to even attempt to create painkillers in case he fucked the dosage up in his pain.
After he managed to barely get his right arm set, he searched for his arrow only to find it in perfectly fine condition still floating above the path ready to keep taking him to the town.
"Thank goodness its still here… fuck this place, I'm leaving now.
Realizing he should never have tempted fate like that he trails behind his creation limping his way out of the as he tries not to aggravate his arm more than he already done.
Xxxxxx
Walking through the open plain Leon had been busy with his newfound magic, as he tried to take his mind off the pain in his arm by making something new.
Since he was having difficulty carrying his possessions he realized he wanted to attempt to make a storage device and had finally settled on a design.
'Okay, its going to like just like implant from Ark, and I'll make it so it has a built-in design program so I can better imagine the details of whatever I'm going to make and even save them to remake them if I ever need to, perfect!'
As Leon began the process to create his new object he paused alongside the road, and summoned his mana pouring more into this creation than he had on any before knowing this one would take a lot out of him as he started to be able to guess how much it would roughly require to make.
As the blue light appeared, Leon stuck his left arm (the non broken one) forward into the light so it would be able to bond onto his forearm and not just be a loose device.
As soon as the gray diamond-shaped device started to form it immediately started to graft into Leon's arm, making him nearly buckle over in pain. Thankfully he was able to keep his concentration up long enough for his magic to do its thing and as soon as he yanked his arm out of the light, the metallic device started to glow in the crevices on the design signaling it started up perfectly.
Raising his arm, a screen appeared in front of Leon, detailing an empty inventory that looked rather similar to an excel spreadsheet and a side screen with an empty canvass looking not much different from the free paint app that comes with every computer.
Grabbing his belongings, not much really but enough to over encumber anyone with a broken arm, Leon put what was left of his magic tome, his sword, and the handle of his failed master sword.
The items were catalogued on the sheet and Leon tapped the implant turning off the screen. He continued down the barren path as day started to break and the yellow of his guide started to reflect the sun.
Soon Leon was once again getting bored, but realizing his earlier mistake didn't want to even entertain the horrible idea as he didn't want to tempt fate once again.
"hoo- I'm starting to wonder how far from magnolia Arcturus left me? I understand dropping me somewhere a bit out of the way just in case I screw up with my magic but come on, this is nuts! Haa…"
He continued to walk, bored out of his mind until finally night had fallen and Leon was left to his lonesome as he attempted to sleep in the middle of nowhere just slightly off into the bush near the main road where hopefully no one would discover him.
That's chapter 1 folks! how did you like it? I personally cant wait to see where i take this story, and as of this update ch.2 is almost half done and sitting at 2709 words, with ch 1 at 4630 words! Make sure to leave a review, give suggestions for what stuff Leon could make wit his magic, although if its creatures or animals i have stuff planned for that so give me game items or magic items heck anything you can think of! just slap down a review with your idea and i might use it! just make sure its either something that exists or if its something you've thought of right it down in simple terms i tend to read reviews around 3 in the morning so most things don't make sense when i do! I'll try to respond to some of your questions in the next update!
