Cammie POV
I didn't imagine going to get a new set of wheels would take so long, unless this guy couldn't be trusted. As much as I'd grown to like Alexa, even Seth a bit, I still didn't fully trust them with Bex by herself. What was I thinking letting them go off on their own?
What was worse than that was Zach's endless pacing, I tried so hard to calm him down, so did Townsend, but nothing was working. He kept mumbling about 'last time' and about not trusting Jack.
"Zach for God's sake!" Liz yelled so loudly I almost fell out of the hard red chair I'd been lying sideways on. Anna sat up on the bed she had been lying on and pulled the headphones she had in out of her ears. Even Macey lowered down the TV and stood up to check what was going on.
"I'm sorry okay, but we have to hurry." Zach called from the other room. Liz came out, red faced and holding a laptop in her arms. Zach followed a couple of seconds after.
"You said you could help," Liz fumed, "not make it 10 times worse." She showed me the screen of her laptop, there was a document open, it looked like a hacking system, but it was blank.
"What am I supposed to be looking at?" I twisted around in my chair.
"You were supposed to be looking at all the hours work I'd done hacking into Blackthornes files to see if they had any in-tell on the Circle and where your mom and the Baxters are." She looked around and glared at Zach. "But somebody decided he could speed things up, I don't know what he did but now everything's gone."
"I am so so sorry Liz, I didn't mean to." Zach apologised.
"Did you try Ctrl Z?" Macey asked, making Liz turn and unhealthier shade of red, she slammed her laptop shut and threw it on the bed, narrowly missing a surprised Anna.
"Oh no how silly of me!" She snapped, I stood up and put my arm on her shoulder.
"It's okay, we can get it back." I tried but she shook her head and looked me in the eyes.
"I don't care about the information, I wrote most of it down anyway." She said, I relaxed.
Townsend came in from the other room. "Then why all the fuss?" He sounded tired, stressed and really on edge.
Liz took a deep breath. "It also may have activated the Blackthorne alarm system and given away our location." Macey threw the TV remote at Zach, hitting him in the side of the head.
"You dumb idiot. What the hell were you thinking?!" She went to the window and looked outside, "we have like, an hour if we are so so so so lucky, and Alexa, Bex and Seth aren't even close to being back with a van."
"I was thinking that I don't trust Jack and this really has to go quicker." The guilt and regret was clear on his face, it made me sad a little. But is didn't change the fact that we were in serious trouble."
"We're sitting ducks out here, how are we going to move this junk without drawing attention to ourselves? We'll never make it out of the village." Anna looked shaken.
All eyes were on me. "What do we do now?" Liz asked.
I didn't have an answer.
Alexa POV
No. No no no no no no. No. This couldn't be happening.
We walked past the petrol station that was not 5 minutes away from our freedom. And then we saw the blood, it covered the windows, like someone had been shot in the head and it had exploded everywhere.
Jack was sick 4 times in 3 minutes 45 seconds while me and Bex quickly scanned the room for signs of life, or Seth. Thankfully we didn't find him, just a really unfortunate man with half his head gone. Even I was almost sick, so was Bex.
She left an anonymous tip to the police about a murder and we left straight away, we just got to the pharmacy when Jack stopped us, refusing to go any further.
"What?!" Bex demanded, she had blood on her leggings from checking to see who the body was and she was not in the mood for this, even I was a little worried.
"You people are psychopaths." He said, his hands shaking and his face pale. "You walked in there and you left, look at you, do you even care that a guy is dead?"
"Lower your damn voice." I said harshly. "Do you want someone to hear you?" Jack had tears rolling down his face.
"This is too much, too real." He covered his mouth with his hand and sobbed.
"This is our life." Bex told him sternly. "This is what we do, we're spies for god's sake." I swallowed a lump in my throat and looked to my left.
There was a man staring at us through the pharmacy window, he was wearing a black coat and had black hair, the only other part of him I could see were his cold green eyes.
"Who works at the pharmacy?" I asked, Bex shot me a confused look and Jack laughed.
"Are you serious?" I nodded, feeling behind my back for my gun, which wasn't there. Had I dropped it someplace? Hopefully not at Jack's house.
"Dr Robertson." Jack said then looked to the window. His reaction wasn't what I expected, he nodded to the guy, who nodded back. "Well, Robertson did work there. I guess not anymore." He laughed. Laughed!?
Bex realised when I did and her jaw dropped. "Jack, what did you do?" He wiped his tears from his eyes and pulled a gun, my gun! And Bex's.
"I took your weapons back in the closet and alerted my bosses of your arrival. Of course, I'd expected you and Zach to arrive. Not this loser and your hot-headed boyfriend. Now he was a surprise." Jack looked to the man in the window, who was opening the door and coming outside, there was blood on his hands and coat, his grin made me sick.
"Now I have to say, loosing Seth like that at my place was really unexpected, I almost thought we'd lost it. But no matter, he doesn't have the keys or the number of the unit." The man stood next to Jack.
"So you weren't lying to us? There really is a van?" I asked, taking it all it while I glanced at my shoe, I still had my knife.
"Of course not, you would never have bought it." He cocked the gun and pointed it at me.
"You going to shoot me Jack? Go ahead?" I taunted, if I could just buy Bex some time...
Jack looked so smug, he put his finger on the trigger and I closed my eyes.
He pulled the trigger.
