Zach POV
I drifted in and out of consciousness a couple of times as Anne drove, resting my head on Cammie's as she slept soundly beside me. When I awoke fully we were just about to come up to the Welcome To Castor Village, Drive Safely sign. Anne was still staring dead ahead, driving. I had a lot of respect for her right now, she didn't know our situation, and she didn't ask about it either, all she really wanted was for Alexa to be safe and to go home with her. I understood that. I remembered Anne vaguely from Alexa's time in Castor Village, and all she ever did was try and keep her safe like she was her own child. When Alexa left it broke her heart.
Think of Alexa I turned to look at the back of her head, moving my head off of Cammie's to feel it click at the change in position. Alexa was resting with her head on the window and I almost thought she was asleep till I saw her eyes open in the reflection of the wing mirror. Moving my arm carefully from around Cammie's neck I leaned forward slowly and put a hand on her shoulder, he jumped slightly then screwed her eyes shut.
"Hey." I said, Anne glanced back at my quickly to check what I was doing and I realised even after more than a year she still thought of Alexa as her daughter. It actually pained me to think of how she would feel if she learned that Alexa had reunited with Joe.
"Hello." Alexa stretched and took her head off of the window, yawning as she did. "How long have we been driving?" She asked to no one in particular.
"45 minutes and 38 seconds." Cammie mumbled, her head still on my shoulder and eyes closed. Wasn't she asleep? Alexa covered her mouth to stop from laughing and I nudged Cam awake. "What?" She groaned.
"Wake up." Alexa said to her with a grin. "We're in Castor now, the hospital isn't too far." Cammie slowly opened her eyes and peeled herself from my shoulder, a red mark on her cheek from how she was laying. After everything that had happened we were all feeling more relaxed than ever for some reason, probably because we knew it could all be over soon. All of us of course, except Seth.
"Did you even sleep?" Cammie yawned the question to him, rubbing the back of her sore neck.
"Couldn't." He replied, but he looked tired none the less. "We're almost there anyway." As soon as he said it Anne turned into a less busy road that lead straight to the hospital where Bex was hopefully ready to be collected.
Alexa looked like she was about to say something to him but didn't, I could see the concern on her face, in all the time I had known Seth he had never been much of an optimist. Quite the opposite actually.
About a minute of silence later we pulled up into the car park, Anne didn't turn off her engine. "This is as far as I'm taking you without an explanation." She informed us all, looking at Alexa, who nodded.
"Thank you, and I will get in touch I promise." She said to a rather heartbroken Anne, I guess she really thought she would get an explanation after all.
Alexa turned to get out the car, hiding her tears. "Be careful." Anne said to her, then to all of us. Cammie and I got out the car next and Seth got out last, not before Anne turned to him however and handed him her phone. "Look after her." He didn't say anything, but he had heard, and he would.
We walked quickly to the hospital main entrance as Seth pocketed the phone. "Look." Cammie stopped us all in our tracks, there were police cars still outside the doors. "We can't go in there." By we I figured she meant her and Alexa, who had been with Collins before they all disappeared.
"But we can." Seth said to me. "Collins didn't see us and neither did anyone else. We'll get her." None of us could argue with that.
"We'll look for transport while you get her." Alexa suggested, though I could see she didn't want to steal yet another car.
"I've got it covered." Cammie said ever so doubtfully. The rest us exchanged a look that said, how?, but we didn't ask. Cammie knew what she was doing, I had hope.
"Good." Seth shrugged, content with the arrangement and looked towards the entrance to where the police were. "But I doubt they'll let us get passed the entrance with these." He pulled his gun out his back pocket and handed it quickly over to Alexa, I did the same with Cammie.
"We good?" I asked, we all agreed and me and Seth turned to go to the hospital.
It didn't take us long to reach the main doors and I could feel my heart speeding up as we walked straight passed the police officers, fearing at any second they could arrest us and drag us away. I clearly wasn't the only one thinking it because once we reached the main reception desk Seth let out a sigh of relief and went to the desk to ask about Bex, who they had down as a Jane Doh.
Before long we were on our way up the flights of stairs to her room, it seemed she was out of surgery and ready to be cleared once they got her ID and payment done, we'd have to work around that.
Finding her was easy, she was in a single room lying in her bed watching spy movies on the small TV attached to the white ceiling. When she say us she visibly relaxed and put down the pair of scissors she had been gripping tightly in her hand hidden under her blanket. "Thank god, what took you guys so long?" For someone who had been shot she was doing just fine.
"We got... a little held up." I said, Cammie could fill her in later. "Right now, we have to go before anyone makes us pay your medical bills or tell them who you are." She nodded, swinging her legs out the bed and pulling off her hospital gown. Me and Seth looked away quickly and she laughed, she was already dressed in a purple long sleeved shirt and a pair of denim shorts underneath it.
"Gotcha." Seth rolled his eyes and gave her a hand walking as she stumbled a little. The colour went out of her face a little.
"Hold on, are you okay?" I asked, suddenly concerned. She took a big breath and put one hand onto where she had been shot.
"As long as we aren't doing anything other than walking out of this creepy place then yeah, I'm okay." She put her arm around Seth's neck as he put his around her waist for support.
"We need to go, now." I agreed and we left, deciding to take the lift instead whilst making Seth and Bex look more like a couple with their arms around each other so we could get out the door easier.
I felt the same pounding in my heart as I had when we came in but yet again, no one stopped us.
It looked like things were finally going our way after all.
