Recap
[Matt] Greg was knocked out, so Marcus had to get a flashlight so we could make sure he was OK. He was. T.K. and Patamon had a heart to heart about our dad getting married to Rumiko, something I'm OK with, by the way. My little brother changed his mind and rejoined the band. Just then, a large group of Digimon led by AxeKnightmon stood outside the resort, just waiting to attack. The original nine of us went on the attack while the new kids evacuated people. AncientGreymon nearly blew up the parking lot, so we moved the battle to the wasteland. Unfortunately, T.K. and Kari couldn't join us. They had their own problems. In the meantime, President Obama showed up and said Imperialdramon had flown to America illegally. What gives? In the end, T.K. unlocked Seraphimon's Burst Mode and completely obliterated AxeKnightmon, plus purified Laylamon. But I don't think we're out of the woods just yet!
Chapter 48: Wedding Bell Blues (Part 3)
Greg
The wedding was scheduled for high noon, but after nobody got any sleep, it was moved to 3 PM. Originally, Barbra Streisand (she was in the area and Rumiko could afford her) was scheduled to officiate, but she was scared away by the Digimon attack. So, we had to find a new minister. After learning the news, President Obama quickly called up a local clergyman. The wedding could go on.
During a late brunch (I had the Monte Cristo sandwich, delicious), I could hear T.K. and Rika arguing at another table.
Rika
I couldn't believe it. "You're switching sides now? What gives?" I demanded to know. "I just know that things are going to be OK after this wedding. Besides, they're already legally married, so there's nothing we can really do about it. There's no use in being angry about it." "But T.K, you and I were against this from the start! How can you back out on me now?" "I unlocked Burst Mode last night. That's how."
I scowled at him. "I thought I could trust you, but you're just like everyone else. You let me down, Takeru, and I don't know if I can ever forgive you." "Rika..." "No, don't! Just leave me alone." So, he left, and I ate the rest of my brunch in silence.
After breakfast, I took a shower. It was the perfect place to let out all my pent-up frustration. Renamon was reading on my tablet while I got dressed. "What are you reading, Renamon?" I asked. "Just an article on how to officiate Shinto weddings." "This is supposed to be a Christian wedding, so it won't do you any good." She looked up. "Rika! You look absolutely stunning." "Oh please..." I rolled my eyes. "How can you be so unhappy? Your mother's about to be wed." "She's already married! They signed the paperwork behind my back, remember?" "Hmmm... I understand. If that's the case, then there's really nothing you can do. You just have to accept it." "Oh yeah, sure. Accept it. My mother's getting married to another loser, and then when things get too tough, he'll walk out on us!"
I finished getting dressed and then walked out to the patio, making sure to pick up a picture of my dad and me. An old song came back to my mind, and it hurt me. Yet, just like everything else that was happening, I had to fight through it. Maybe if I sang it, it wouldn't hurt so badly.
["Promise" (from Digimon Tamers: Runaway Locomon)
Written by John Majkut
Performed by Rika Nonaka (Melissa Fahn)]
Rika walks out to a swing that's connected to a nearby tree, sits down on it, and gently swings back and forth. She's not really moving it at all. The picture is in her lap.
Rika:
Promise that we'll stay for the sunset,
And when the moon shines through the darkness,
We can find the path that leads us home,
And on the way you'll...
...maybe...
...sing me a song.
In her mind, she's transported back to her days of childhood, when her father would push her on the swings in Shinjuku.
Rika:
Promise that you always will be there,
Hold my hand if ever I'm real scared,
Help me stand up tall if I fall down,
Make me laugh away all my bluest days!
Just then, Rika's father stops pushing and starts to walk away. She chases after him, reaching out for his arm. But by then, it's far too late. She's gone.
Rika:
How could you promise you always would be there?
Why'd you have to go away somewhere?
Every morning into every night,
Do you watch over me like the sun in the sky?
Am I all alone, or standing in your light?
I wish that I could...
...maybe...
...sing you a song...
She suddenly hears the light sound of glass breaking as she's brought back into the present. She looks down, and to her dismay, the picture frame is broken.
Rika:
...tonight.
She runs back inside to look for something to clean the glass up with.
Rika:
You promised me we'd stay for the sunset...
After the glass is collected, she picks up the frame and the picture.
Matt
Finally, the wedding was about to begin. Tomoki, our cousin from Shibuya, was acting as ring boy. He wouldn't give up his newsboy cap. "Aww come on, guys, that's my lucky cap. I never go anywhere without it," he protested. I took it off his head and said,"Well you don't wear it at a wedding, especially when you're the most important guy there." His eyes lit up. "I am?" "Yeah. If you don't have the rings, then nobody can get married." "You really mean that? It's really all up to me?"
T.K. laughed. "That's right, kiddo. Are you up for the challenge?" Tomoki gave us a salute. "You can count on me!" "Good!" We sent him off. The girls and three members of PurityxSpirited were bridesmaids, while Lily became the flower girl. Commander Sampson and Kudamon stood ready to give Rumiko away, while I walked to my spot as the best man. Way in the back of the chapel, I spotted Rika. She kept her pineapple ponytail up, and looked like she was ready to kill.
Tomoki and Lily were the first ones down the aisle. Lily threw flowers everywhere while Tomoki nervously carried the rings on a satin pillow. After the bridesmaids and the groomsmen (which were most of the guys in the band, plus Tai, Izzy, and Joe) walked down the aisle, it was finally time for Rumiko to proceed. The organist played "Here Comes the Bride" while my new mom walked down the aisle with her right arm resting on Commander Sampson's left arm. Kudamon wore a bow tie for the occasion. We met up with them, and the commander took Rumiko's hand and placed it in Dad's right hand, then sat down. We all turned to the minister, who was very impressive.
He spoke. "Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togeder, today. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam... wifin a dweam..."
Just outside the resort, Makuramon charges up his Primal Orb. "Ahem!" Just then, someone clears his throat. Makuramon turns around and there is Lord Bagra. "Uh... Lord Bagra! What brings you here into the Human World?" "I have received your message, Makuramon. AxeKnightmon is dead, and now things are as they should be. I don't believe we will be needing your Primal Orb. And since this is a wedding, I brought a couple with me." Out of nowhere comes two god-like Digimon. Both wear capes and carry impressive weapons. The female speaks."Well hello there, Lord Bagra. It's such a pleasure to see you. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Junomon, and this here is my little-ol' beau, Jupitermon. Say howdy!" "Howdy," Jupitermon grunts in an Austrian accent. "Oh, never you mind him. He's just cranky because he hasn't passed judgment on anyone today." "I see," Lord Bagra says.
Greg
"Then wuv, tru wuv, will fowow you foweva..." the minister went on. This guy was terrible. I glared across the aisle at President Obama, snickering all the while. He had a twisted sense of humor. "So tweasure your wuv," the clergyman continued.
"If anywon has any weason why this couple should not be wawfully wedded..." Hiroaki and Rumiko both gave him a glare. "Fowget it," he finished.
Before we could get to the vows, we heard a loud crash outside. The noise came inside as two Digimon stormed into the area. One of them sounded like Scarlett O'Hara. "Oh, there's nothing I like more than a little-ol' wedding! And I'm just the perfect lady to crash it!" The minister had a heart attack and had to be evacuated.
Thomas
"Oh no!" I gasped. It seemed misfortune followed us everywhere we went. There was the extreme possibility this wedding could become a complete disaster. The Secret Service agents gathered around President Obama and drew their weapons.
Immediately, we sprang into action. Most of us of the male gender gathered our Digivices from our trouser pockets, while the ladies drew theirs from their various dresses. Maxwell was a little behind on the uptake. I nudged him. "Maxwell, this is where you present arms," I said. "Oh." He procured and presented his Digivice as well.
I delivered the statement loudly and clearly. "It's no use, you two! This house of matrimony is being protected by the Digimon Data Squad. Stand down!" I identified the hulking, male Digimon on my Analyzer. "'Jupitermon, a Mega-level God Man Digimon whose name and design are derived from the mythological Jupiter, the Roman god of thunder, weather, and the sky. He is always judging good and evil on the battlefield, and metes out divine punishment to those who choose evil. He makes the decisions dispassionately, wholly excluding any emotion from his judgments.' Intriguing."
"Silence, human. You will all be the ones standing down as I pass judgment!" Jupitermon proclaimed in an Austrian accent, with a Styria-based dialect. "What do you think you are, the Terminator?" Marcus dared to ask. "Yes!"
Lily spoke up. "Well you're not! And if you think you can just ruin this wedding, you're nothing but a big bully!" Jupitermon pointed one of his hammers at her. "Silence!" he shouted. Sadie was next. "No, we won't be silent when comes to a threat like you. If we're going to have a blue, we'll do it outside. Awright?" Jupitermon merely floated outside, with the female Digimon (later identified as Junomon) following him.
Greg
Now this was a fight for the ages. We were met by another giant squadron of Troopmon, along with one other giant Digimon. "They just keep getting bigger and bigger, don't they?" I said to myself.
The Scarlett soundalike (whom I later identified as Junomon) spoke. "Now this big ol' thing over here is Machinedramon, the greatest machine Digimon in the entire Digital World. It's capable of firing superdreadnought-class energy waves from its two cannons, and if you can destroy it and defeat us, then we'll let your world go. Otherwise, this resort's gonna be an outpost for the Bagra dee. Won't that be just delightful?"
"Not if we can do anything about it!" Naomi answered. The four girls presented their Digivices and got in position. "Ready?" "Ready!" the other three answered. They closed their eyes and hummed to get themselves in harmony, then opened their eyes. Balls of Fractal Code appeared on their free hands as they scanned them.
Naomi went first. "Execute! Fusion Evolution!" Her body blacked out as she transformed. Elements from both forms attached to her body as she became a tree. She became a living, humanoid Cherry Blossom tree with a willowy body with vase-shaped hips, covered with smooth pale-gold bark with darker-gold horizontal stripes, long branches for arms with blossoming twigs for fingers, petal-shaped cyan eyes, and a long strapless dress made out of white bark rolled around her body. Her let-down hair was branches of a Weeping Cherry Blossom that fell like a weeping willow, bearing cascades of white/pink blossoms and gold leaves. In other words, she looked like Groot's Japanese female cousin. She gracefully spread her roots and blossomed. "AncientKurozomemon!"
Sadie was next as a clever smile came over her face. "Execute, now! Fusion Evolution!" She roared as her body blacked out. She transformed into a fox beast covered with a thick, luxurious purple fur that glowed with radiance, along with having long nine tails, each tipped with white/lighter-purple. Her long, light-purple fluffy fur acted as hair, and she had a gleaming-furred prominent chest, hypnotising green eyes and a white traditional kitsune mask with magenta details. She stood proudly as she let out a high-pitched, yippy "ow-wow-wow-wow!" sound. "AncientKitsunemon!"
Next, it was Charisse's turn. She scanned her code patiently, yet confidently. "Execute! Fusion Evolution!" Then, she hummed with determination as her body blacked out and transformed. She became a beastly yet womanly wasp with a skinny body, long black/maroon-streaked hair in African braids and pulled into a ponytail, one braid loose on her skin-black face, and concealed eyes. She has long antennas slick back, slender grey wings like a wasp and sharp stingers on her hands. She wore a short black strapless dress with brown honeycomb designs, brown armbands and sleek brown boots with green soles. She zipped around the battlefield, then came to a dead stop and posed. "AncientGaiamon!"
Lily went last as her eyes filled with delight. First, she pulled off her dress, revealing a two-piece bathing suit. Then, she jumped feet-first into the swimming pool, with her Digivice still in hand. "Execute! Fusion Evolution!" As her body blacked out, I heard noises out of her that I'd only heard ever come out of Rika while she and Marcus were making love (my room was between hers and his in the mansion). They weren't screams of pain, they were screams of pleasure! She became a blue and multicolored mermaid. She posed with her trident. "AncientMermaimon!" It really was a sight to behold. There was an actual mermaid... Digimon-human, thing, in the swimming pool.
After all that, there was no way I could let four girls top me. At that point, Cody came up with an analysis. "Actually, when I think about it, being a mermaid has a distinct disadvantage." "What would that be, Cody?" T.K. asked. "Well, she can't move around on the land. She's going to be stuck in that swimming pool for the entire battle."
Sampson
As commander of the Digital Accidental Tactics Squad, I took it upon myself to run a complete analysis of the situation. Theoretically, there were only three main Digimon to fight off and about 600 Troopmon. However, we had 17 Mega-level Digimon and one Champion. In terms of power, we had them outnumbered, but in terms of numbers, it was the other way around. On top of that, to bring all 17 Mega-levels out would be potentially dangerous. So, we quickly evacuated the non-combatants (including the bride and groom) away from the area. Then, we all brought out our Digivices and summoned our Digimon.
"Everyone! Ignite your DigiSoul!" I called. Soon, the area was flooded with various colored lights. "It's showtime!" Tai added. Then, everyone except Mr. Caulfield shouted our battle cry as a solid, cohesive unit. "DigiSoul, Charge! OVERDRIVE!"
After that, the battle became a free-for-all as Digimon and humans collaborated side by side against the threat of the Bagra Army. Ah, it was magnificent. Charisse as AncientGaiamon, zipping around at a lightning-fast speed and then stinging Troopmon with her stinger hands. Cody, turning an ordinary tree branch into a deadly weapon. AncientKitsunemon, calling upon fire and lightning to attack in seven sword-like "hells" and firing them at Machinedramon. And all the while, AncientKurozomemon healing destroyed lands and turning them into nourishing forests. Thus, she was reducing our impact on the deterioration of the environment.
Lily
I thought being a mermaid Digimon would be fun, really I did. At DATS, I had a large tank to swim around in. But here, it was just a swimming pool. I felt like a very big fish in a little pond, and it was depressing. Still, I thought about what Naomi would say. "Cheer up, Lily. Just because you're the smallest doesn't mean you're not important."
"She's right," I said to myself, "Naomi is counting on me. They're all counting on me. I just have to man up and do my part." Just then, a group of Troopmon came towards the swimming pool. I channeled my inner mermaid and raised my trident. "Great Maelstrom!" I summoned a powerful whirlpool using just the water in the pool, swallowing up all the Troopmon that were there! They all drowned! After that, the water came back into the pool. I felt very proud of myself.
Rika
I was glad to have the distraction, but kind of bothered at the same time. Even though I didn't want this wedding to happen, it was my mom's wedding. As her daughter, I ought to have just a little loyalty to her. While I was kicking down a Troopmon, I got a call on my cell phone. I pulled it out of the other pocket of my tennis shorts. "What do you want?" I barked. It was Mom. "Rika! Hiroaki and I need to talk to you in the dressing room." "Now?!" "Yes, now!" "Ugh! Seriously?! Oh, okaaaaay."
I hung up and powered down from Aura Mode, then ran towards the dressing room. I walked inside and locked the door in case any Troopmon had any bright ideas. Sure enough, there was Mom and Hiroaki, and Matt and T.K.'s mom Nancy. I was surprised to see her. "Huh? Nancy? What are you doing here?" I asked her. "Well, the three of us were talking this morning and your mother told us about your father." My eyes widened. "Wait just a sec. Mom, you just told this woman over here? You told this cheating skank about Dad leaving? I thought you were going to take it to your grave."
In one quick motion, Hiroaki moved forward and grabbed me by the arm. "Clearly, she's not as much of a skank as you are, young lady. Now, I want you to understand something. For all intents and purposes, Nancy is family to you now. She's the mother of your stepbrothers, and that means she deserves respect. Do I make myself clear?" He was good. "Uh... yes, sir." He let me go.
Mom explained herself. "Well, I was, but since I'm in a new relationship, I thought Hiroaki should know." "Well go ahead! Spill all the gory details, why don't you?" I growled.
Hiroaki glared at me again as Mom started her story. "The Hata women have always been... sexually progressive. My mother was pregnant with me as a teenager, and then I became pregnant with Rika at 18. My first husband's name was Yusei, and he rode a motorcycle. Sometimes he played card games on them. Card games on motorcycles. It was fascinating. I fell in love with him, and we went too far. When my pregnancy test was positive, we had a shotgun wedding. I spent too much time modeling, he spent too much of my money on booze and his bike. Yet, I overlooked that for Rika's sake. Finally, when she was five, enough was enough. He had hooked up with one of my model friends, served me the papers, and then left us high and dry. He'd show up every so often to pay alimony and see Rika, but it wasn't enough. Of course, by then, it wasn't necessary. I'd already had my big break. Then, three years ago..." She started choking up as she wiped away tears with a tissue.
I continued, "Three years ago, Dad got into a motorcycle accident. He was sandwiched between two cars, right in the middle of an intersection in Yokohama. It was fatal. The last time I saw my biological father... was in a morgue." Nancy started crying, too. I looked directly at Hiroaki. "So, Dad, what's it going to be with you? How long are you planning on staying this time, hmm?" Hiroaki stared at me, steely-eyed and determined. "Until the end of time," he said. "You promise?" He looked into Mom's eyes, gently held her hand, and replied, "I do."
Just then, we heard another voice. "Well, isn't this peculiar?" We gasped and turned around as a monkey-like Digimon tossed an orb up and down in his hand. "You all thought you were safe by locking yourself in this room. It's such a pity you didn't lock the other door. Catch!" He threw the orb, then psychically controlled it with his hands. It hit Mom, then Nancy. My eyes widened again in horror as both of them became absorbed into the orb, which flew right back into the Digimon's hand. "Mom! Nancy! No!" I yelled.
I quickly looked him up on my Digimon Analyzer. "'Makuramon, an Ultimate level Holy Beast Digimon. He makes a hobby out of collecting and locking up the things that catch his eye in his "Primal Orb", and in battle, he is a pacifist that locks up the opponent to settle his issues.'" In the meantime, Hiroaki stared at horror, then got angry as he rushed towards him. Makuramon sent his orb flying all around the room as human and monkey got into combat.
"Where is my wife?!" Hiroaki demanded to know. He prepared to punch him in the face, but he stopped. Makuramon shook his finger. "Uh uh uh... you should really be more civilized. I could easily destroy that orb of mine at any moment. I can always get another orb... but those humans trapped in there will be destroyed, never to return!" "You monster!" Hiroaki roared as he punched him. The two went back to fighting.
I thought about joining in, but then I decided I shouldn't. If Mom and Nancy were really in that orb, I didn't want to take any chances of them dying in there. As I watched Hiroaki fight, I quietly started thinking to myself. "Hiroaki... he's so dedicated. This is his wedding day, and he's fighting for his bride. My mom. He reminds me so much of Marcus. He's so, so... brave, so devoted, and reliable. Just like Matt and T.K. Maybe... maybe I was, wrong about him. Maybe he's not after Mom's money. Maybe he actually, loves her. Oh, I want it to be true. Matt and T.K. are really nice guys. The whole Ishida family's been good to our family. Hiroaki's been like a father to me, to all of us. It's not a stretch at all." Makuramon landed a blow on him, knocking him to the ground and drawing blood. "Hiroaki!" I cried.
I don't know why, but I started thinking that Hiroaki Ishida could be a much better dad to me than my own biological dad. I ran over to him, making sure he was OK. "H-Hiroaki..." I moaned. "Rika... go. Leave now, I'll be fine." "No, you're hurt. I'm not leaving you. Not until I tell you something." "What?" I held his hand in my hands. "I... was wrong. Wrong about you. I thought you'd only marry Mom for her money, but after I watched you fight for her, and your ex, I realized that you genuinely love them both. Not just them, but me too. You'd fight for anyone. So, I've decided to finally accept you as... my dad." "Rika... Thank you."
Suddenly, I felt something in my heart that went all the way through my body. It felt good, and it just kept building and building. At the same time, it felt like yellow DigiSoul was just oozing from my pores, and my Digivice lit up. I looked back to my stepfather. "Stay here. I may have an idea on how to get Mom back." Makuramon just looked at me strangely.
I got up, unlocked the door, and then ran out. By now, the entire hotel was a war zone. Troopmon were fighting everyone left and right. I ran right past them as I searched for Sakuyamon with my Digivice. I finally found her outside with the others. She noticed what was happening to me. "Rika... I'm sensing a new power coming from you," she said. I grinned. "That's right! I'm gonna need you for a minute in the dressing room. Something's come up." "Right!" The two of us ran back in, with Sakuyamon throwing her Fox Cards everywhere.
We made it back to the dressing room. By now, it was becoming harder to contain. It felt like I was aroused, but there wasn't a sexual thought in my brain. I thought I'd explode if I didn't do anything. "I... I don't know what to do now, Sakuyamon!" I said. "Take your power and set it free!" So, I pulled the trigger inside my head. Boom! It was like a nuclear meltdown inside and outside my body, with yellow DigiSoul going all over me. And yet... I was surprisingly calm. "Makuramon, I've got a question for you," I said. He turned to me. "What is it?" he asked. I grinned. "You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" He thought about it, and started to say something. "It's a rhetorical question. I just like the sound of it," I quickly answered.
Then, I took out my Digivice. "In three! Two! One!" I pressed the third, second, and first buttons on my Digivice, and the Signal Port lit up. I shifted it to the side, slowly bringing my free hand into the light. "Charge! DigiSoul... BURST MODE!" I called. After the Digivice beeped, I thrust both hands fully out to my sides and fired the beam. Sakuyamon took on the power as her armor started to disappear. She became a Japanese miko, with a pair of long, red, divided trousers, a white kimono jacket, and white hair ribbons. She carried a long stick with shide strips of washi paper, waving it as she danced. She introduced herself as "Sakuyamon, Burst Mode."
I looked her up on my Analyzer. "'Sakuyamon's Burst Mode is actually a misnomer, because it's really her Miko Mode, used to perform Shinto rituals. This is similar to MagnaAngemon's Priest Mode.' Wait, so that means Renamon's a Shinto? Go figure." Sakuyamon started dancing the kagura, this Shinto dance. As she moved gracefully, the four fox spirits released themselves and danced around with her. She paused to send them out, and they did their duty by going inside the Primal Orb. Seconds later, Mom and Nancy fell out and the orb broke. I ran to the two of them to make sure they were OK.
Sakuyamon moved in closely towards Makuramon, then slapped a piece of paper with Japanese writing on his forehead. "Akuryo Taisan!" she said. Translated, that means "Evil spirit, begone." The monkey couldn't move. Then, it suddenly became a scene right out of one of the two volumes of "Kill Bill". The kuda-gitsune charged all around the area, laying lethal blows while Sakuyamon fought on her own. Makuramon was blown away, hit with a small tidal wave, burned up, and struck by lightning all at once. Then, Sakuyamon let loose a few Hung Ga moves and finished him off.
We made sure that both Mom and Hiroaki were fine. Then, Sakuyamon and I ran back to join the others.
Greg
While Rika was away, we had issues of our own. Davis, wanting to be the hero, activated Imperialdramon's Burst Mode and let him loose on Jupitermon, who blew up into millions of tiny pieces thanks to the Positron Laser. Junomon had a nervous breakdown, so she radically changed forms and gained huge needles as weapons. MirageGaogamon got in with his Gale Claw before Imperialdramon BM had a chance. "OHHH! Why you little brute! Oh, Jupitermon, Jupitermon! Where shall I go? What shall I do?" Junomon rambled. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn," MirageGaogamon answered before landing the final blow.
As for Machinedramon, UlforceVeedramon delivered the final blow after I activated his Burst Mode. There were explosions the likes of which this resort had never seen before, but finally, Machinedramon was dead.
With all three threats taken out, the Troopmon retreated and the entire resort celebrated. Soon, Hiroaki, Nancy, and Rumiko joined us. "Wait just a minute! Wait just a minute!" Cody cut in. We quieted down, and he continued, "We shouldn't celebrate just yet. The minister had a heart attack before these two could make their marital vows." "You know, he's right!" T.K. agreed. We all agreed on that. "But who will be our new minister?" I asked. So, the hunt was on. It continued until Rika came up with an idea. "Wait just a sec, guys. I have an idea. MagnaAngemon can be the minister. He's got a Priest Mode."
"He does?" T.K. asked in surprise. Seraphimon reverted to Patamon, who asked, "I do?" Rika showed them both her Digivice and they read it. "Hmmm... huh. Well, I didn't know that," the male of the two humans said.
Unfortunately, we soon met an opposing force in the form of our president. "Uh, a Digimon? Marrying two humans? I'm sorry, but as president of the United States of America, I cannot support this. Even if this MangaAngeman..." "MagnaAngemon!" wecorrected him. Obama cleared his throat. "Yes. Even if he was a human, he'd have to be registered in the state of California. That could take a few days."
"Then why don't you marry them, wiseguy?" Dad suggested. Some of the other parents agreed. Obama raised his hands up to settle the crowd down. "All right. I'll do that. After all, I am the President of the United States." So, we quickly cleaned up and set up for take two of the wedding.

Finally, the wedding is ready to begin again. Tomoki and Lily are the first ones down the aisle, with Lily throwing flowers everywhere while Tomoki carries the rings on a satin pillow. After the bridesmaids and the groomsmen (which are most of the guys in the band, plus Tai, Izzy, and Joe) walk down the aisle, Rumiko walks down it with her right arm resting on Commander Sampson's left arm. The commander takes Rumiko's hand and places it in Hiroaki's right hand, then sits down next to the Caulfields.
Marcus: (VO)
I find myself in a strange situation
And I don't know how
What seemed to be an infatuation
Is so different now
I can't get by if we're not together
Ooh, can't you see?
Girl, I want you now and forever
Close to me
Standing before the couple is President Barack Obama, who as far as this fanfic is concerned, has legal authority to marry two people in his own country. He says a few words. Juliet wipes away a tear with her handkerchief and squeezes Maxwell's hand. The wedding ceremony proceeds.
Marcus: (VO)
I'm longing for the time
I'm longing for the day
Hoping that you will promise to be mine
And never go away
I don't want to live without you
I don't want to live without you
I could never live without you
Live without your love
ooooh
Rumiko and Hiroaki place rings on each other's fingers. During an extended instrumental break, Obama says, "By the power vested in me by the United States of America, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." "YAAAAAY!" Lily loudly cheers. Hiroaki kisses his bride as they walk down the aisle and the music continues. Wizardmon uses his Magical Game attack to shoot "fireworks" at the ceiling. Everyone takes turns throwing rice. Rika, Matt, and T.K. look to each other and assemble in a group hug. Pictures are taken.
Marcus: (VO)
I ask myself but there's no explanation
For the way I feel
I know I've reached the right destination
And I know it's real
I'm longing for the time
I'm longing for the day
When I'll be giving you this heart of mine
Believe me when I say
We next cut to the wedding reception, where we find Gaomon on drums and Marcus at the front. This is a Foreigner cover, after all. The emotion is still there, but Marcus' delivery is very smooth and controlled. We get various shots of couples on the dance floor.
Marcus:
I don't want to live without you
I don't want to live without you
I could never live without you
Live without your love
Now I don't want to live without you
I don't want to live without you
I could never be without you
Be without your love
I don't want to live without you
Live without your love
(Band: Live without your love)
Live without your love

You see I'm lost without your love

As the song fades to conclusion, the audience cheers.
Matt
I approached the mic. "Thanks, everyone, for coming. Sorry about the delay, but if you're here, you probably already know that stuff like this happens every so often. Anyway, it's time for the first dance. This one's a special one written by-" "Excuse me. Yamato? I have something I'd like to say," Obama interrupted. I let out a heavy sigh. "The President of the United States of America, everybody," I relented. He came up on stage and spoke.
"Members of this wedding party, I wish to make an announcement. I would like to call several members of the Digital Accidental Tactics Squad, or DATS, to join me in Washington for an emergency joint session of Congress. There, I will address the Digimon threat. Now, we'll start with the most knowledgable. Koushiro Izumi." We applauded and Izzy humbly bowed. "Commander Richard Sampson." More applause as Commander Sampson nodded. "One of England's exports, Maxwell Caulfield." Max looked around the room, confused. "Wait, why me? I hardly know anything about the subject myself," he said. "And yet, you represent the millions of Americans who know little to nothing about Digimon. Your inexperience and celebrity status could be used to further the cause," Obama countered. I could see Juliet nudge him. "Er, I accept," Max finally agreed.
"Now, we must have a lady present. I assume your wife, Juliet Mills, will accept." Juliet nodded, and Mimi stood up. "Mr. President, why don't you just make it easier on yourself and ask the original 12 to come? We know more about it than a lot of the adults do," she said. Obama nodded. "Very well. My apologies, Mr. Ishida. We'll make arrangements immediately."
"No problem at all, Chief," I replied. Obama waved to the crowd, then sat back down. I went on, "OK, now this one I know you'll all like. Introducing, for their first official dance as a couple, Hiroaki and Rumiko Ishida!" Rumiko and Dad stepped out onto the dance floor as the lights dimmed.
["The Experience of Love" (from GoldenEye)
Written by Éric Serra and Rupert Hine
Performed by The Teenage Wolves
Lead Vocal: Yamato "Matt" Ishida (Michael Reisz)]
Hiroaki and Rumiko have their first slow dance as husband and wife. The mood is sensual and romantic, as two broken hearts finally come together to become one. The instrumentation of this song reflects that.
Matt:
I know you dream a lot
Holding on to lies
And you wait around
For someone to know where you hide
And in your dreams, you feel a lot
Though you keep it all inside
And you close your eyes
It helps keep you alive
And the experience of loving
Won't take all the pain away
Just understanding for the first time
What you feel inside
When love is in your life
And having come this far
Cherishing your dreams
You have realized now
How they help keep you alone
We get more shots of the couples dance. Davis' sister Jun is seen holding Joe tightly as they move along the dance floor. Even the Digimon have paired up.
Matt/Rika:
And the experience of loving
Won't take all the pain away
Just understanding for the first time
What you feel inside
When love is in your life
Matt:
(Renamon: Leave the dreams behind)
Breathing in the scent of love
(Renamon: Leave the dreams behind)
Sensing life in everything
Under the sky
Matt/Rika:
And the experience of loving
Won't take all the pain away
Just understanding for the first time
What you feel inside
When love is in your life
Matt:
(Backing Vocals: The experience of love, under the sky)
Searching forever
(Backing Vocals: The experience of love, under the sky)
Won't take all the pain away
(Backing Vocals: The experience of love)
For the first time
(Backing Vocals: Under the sky)
Love is in your life
(Backing Vocals: The experience of love)
Take it below, feel the flow
Hold it close, don't let it go
(Backing Vocals: The experience of love, under the sky)
It won't take all the pain away
( Backing Vocals: The experience of love)
For the first time
(Backing Vocals: Under the sky)
When love is in your life
(Backing Vocals: The experience of love)
For the first time
(Backing Vocals: Under the sky)
Searching forever
(Backing Vocals: The experience of love)
For the first time

Greg
After we finished that song, Matt dismissed us to our tables. I joined the rest of the band at ours. The best man proceeded to give a long speech about his dad. T.K. said a few words, Rika said a few words. Even I said something. "Yeah, I didn't see this coming. You know, I think this band may need to be renamed 'The Ishida Family Band' or something to that effect." That got a laugh.
Then, President Obama gave a 45-minute speech. Dad came up on stage to shut him up, but he came prepared. Obama presented everyone with orders good for paper and audiobook copies of his book, The Audacity of Hope. Dad graciously accepted his copy to save face. Matt presented the president with a copy of our latest album.
With all the speeches out of the way, I went to the mic next. "OK, guys, we've got another song we've just written. Veemon, Marcus, Matt and I wrote this one. It's called Sugar, and here to sing it is my partner, Veemon!" Veemon ran up on stage, as well as Davis' Veemon.
["Sugar"
Written by "David Umansky"/Veemon, Gregory T. Logan, Marcus Damon, and Yamato "Matt" Ishida (Adam Levine, Joshua Coleman, Lukasz Gottwald, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, Mike Posner, Henry Walter)
Performed by The Teenage Wolves
Lead Vocal: "David Umansky"/Veemon (Derek Stephen Prince)]
The music starts as Greg quickly lowers the mic for his Veemon. Davis' Veemon is playing percussion. It's party time at the Langham Huntington as everyone hits the floor! By the way, Veemon, Greg, and Marcus collaborated on the lyrics while Matt wrote the music.
Veemon:
I'm hurting, baby, I'm broken down
I need your loving, loving I need it now
When I'm without you
I'm something weak
You got me begging, begging
I'm on my knees
I don't wanna be needing your love
I just wanna be deep in your love
And it's killing me when you're away, ooh, baby,
'Cause I really don't care where you are
I just wanna be there where you are
And I gotta get one little taste
Veemon/Band:
Your sugar
Yes, please
Won't you come and put it down on me?
I'm right here, 'cause I need
Little love and a little sympathy
Yeah, you show me good loving
Make it alright
Need a little sweetness in my life
Your sugar
Yes, please
Won't you come and put it down on me?
We also get highlights from the wedding reception. Rumiko tosses the bouquet, and Jun catches it. She looks expectantly at Joe, who nervously loosens his collar. Then comes the garter toss. Greg catches that and is rewarded with noogies from Marcus and Matt. The happy couple cut the cake and eat. Marcus' Agumon quickly turns it into a food fight.
Veemon:
My broken pieces
You pick them up
Veemon/Davis' Veemon:
Don't leave me hanging, hanging
Come give me some
Veemon:
When I'm without ya
I'm so insecure
Veemon/Davis' Veemon:
You are the one thing, one thing
I'm living for
Veemon:
I don't wanna be needing your love
I just wanna be deep in your love
And it's killing me when you're away, ooh, baby,
'Cause I really don't care where you are
I just wanna be there where you are
And I gotta get one little taste
Veemon/Band:
Your sugar
Yes, please
Won't you come and put it down on me?
I'm right here,
'cause I need
Little love and a little sympathy
Yeah, you show me good loving
Make it alright
Need a little sweetness in my life
Your sugar! (Veemon: Your sugar!)
Yes, please (Veemon: Yes, please)
Won't you come and put it down on me?
We get more shots of the band performing and the cast on the dance floor (including Greg and Jun, as the man who catches the garter is obliged to place it on the leg of the lady who caught the bouquet, and then share the next dance). Veemon is really getting into it.
Veemon:
Yeah
I want that red velvet
I want that sugar sweet
Don't let nobody touch it
Unless that somebody's me
I gotta be a man
There ain't no other way
'Cause girl you're hotter than a southern California day
I don't wanna play no games
I don't gotta be afraid
Don't give me all that shy stuff
No make-up on
That's my
Veemon/Band:
Sugar
Yes, please
Won't you come and put it down on me (Veemon: down on me!)?
I'm right here (Veemon: I'm right here), 'cause I need (Veemon: 'cause I need)
Little love and a little sympathy
So, baby, you show me good loving
Make it alright
Need a little sweetness in my life (Veemon: yeahhhhh)
Your sugar! (Veemon: Sugar!)
Yes, please (Veemon: Yes, please)
Won't you come and put it down on me? (Veemon: down on me)
The happy couple walks to their rental car (a 2012 Lincoln Town Car) and gets inside. The back has a sign posted on it that reads "Just Married" in Japanese katana. They drive off to everyone's cheering.
Band: (VO)
Your sugar
Yes, please (Veemon: Whoo!)
Won't you come and put it down on me?
I'm right here (Veemon: right here), 'cause I need (Veemon: I need)
Little love and a little sympathy
Yeah, you show me good loving
Make it alright
Need a little sweetness in my life
Your sugar (Veemon: Sugar)
Yes, please (Veemon: Yes, please)
Won't you come and put it down on me? (Veemon: down on me, down on me!)
Veemon: (VO)
Hoo!
Veemon chuckles as the song comes to an end and they drive away.
Greg
Now that that was over, we decided we might as well spend one more night at the resort. We overheard President Obama get up in arms with the label about this joint session we'd have to attend. He essentially canceled our stops at Madison Square Garden and PNC Arena, and he moved the launch party to a venue in Washington, D.C. Soon, we were hounded by the press and spent all night answering questions about Digimon and the Bagra Army and the organization. The press had a question for everyone, even the Digimon. Matt, Kari, T.K., and I were separately approached by Random House for book offers.
It became too much, so we left for our rooms. Anya followed me to mine. "You still have the garter?" she asked me. I held it up. "Yep," I proudly answered. "When do I get the ring?" "The... ring?" "Yes. You caught the garter, so you are the next man to be married. That is what tradition states." "Geez, Anya, I didn't think you were ready to move that quickly. What's wrong with things the way they are?" "Gregorivich! We are the two oldest people in the group. We have been together for over three months, and you don't want to progress any further?"
I was flabbergasted and speechless. "Er, uh... I... I... I..." "Well?" "I love you, Anya, and I want to wait until this whole... thing with the Bagra Army blows over." "Wait until it blows over? By then, it may be too late! We may be dead!" I became firmer. "If you're going to ask me to do what I think you'll ask me to do, forget it. We're not getting married until after the world is at peace," I insisted. She stared at me, with those hurt eyes of hers. Then, she walked out.
"Anya! Wait!" I called, but she didn't hear me. She just walked back into her room and slammed the door. "Anya..."
Author's Notes:
Like I said before, I found a way to fit in PurityxSpirited's Fusion Evolutions. I'd like to give a special thanks to IrishDreamer4 for her input and help with those characters. You can see more of them (and see her do a better job of writing for them) in her fanfic, Digital Adventure 03: Kiseki O Shinjiru. Soon, you'll also see Greg, Veemon, Gary, and Tentomon there, as well as the rest of the DATS crew.
Again, the portrayal of President Obama in this fanfic is purely ficticious. No celebrities or presidents were harmed in the making of this fanfic.
I based Jupitermon off the Ahnold and Junomon off Scarlett O'Hara.
A good part of the action in these next coming chapters will be in Washington, D.C. We've got a few Burst Modes that still need to be unlocked, but I can tell you that the final battle will be in Las Vegas, Nevada. It should be fun!
