Alexa POV

Walking on broken glass in my black high top converse I made my way through the heavily scaffolded halls of Gallagher Academy as I headed towards Ms. Morgan's new temporary office where her and dad had asked me and Cammie to meet them urgently. It had been a total of 2 months and 6 days since we left the safe mansion and it had been a relatively relaxing few months. I was just getting used to the calm and 'normal' back in Castor Village with Anne when dad had sent a SOS text to us to meet them at once.

Now here we were, walking through the empty, echoey halls of the once bustling school. I was as tense as Cammie was, she was walking by my side, her light brown jacket rustling as she walked. As we approached the corridor that turned towards her office we heard two boys talking.

My heart leaped at the familiar laughter of Seth and I couldn't help but grin, neither could Cammie as another burst of laughter accompanied the first. Zach. Cammie skipped up and hugged her boyfriend, he smelled her hair and smiled. I headed towards Seth, who enveloped me in a hung before giving me a small kiss. We had discussed our situation and were both more than happy with being together. He took my hand and the four of us entered Ms. Morgan's office together.

The office was nothing special, Ms. Morgan had put her old desk in the rather small room, along with some photos of her and Cammie and her late husband. There were boxes stacked in the corners of the room too, taped and unopened, ready to be moved to a more permanent location. "Hey mum." Cammie pulled herself away from Zach and hugged her mum, I said hi to dad but didn't hug him. We'd agreed to work out our problems when school started back up again, he hadn't been very happy about me going to live with Anne for a while but he couldn't have stopped me if he'd tried.

"So what's this about?" Cammie asked then both as we took our seats, there were four old blue foam ones stacked in the middle of the back wall next to the window.

"We wanted to talk to both of you." Dad said to me and Cammie, we look at each other.

"So then, not that I'm complaining, but why are Seth and Zach here?" I asked, puzzled by this whole sudden meeting that was clearly important.

"We thought, that it might be easier." Ms. Morgan said. She looked to Joe for some sort of help and suddenly I felt very worried.

"What's going on?" Cammie voiced my worried thoughts. I picked at the rips in my jeans nervously, Seth squeezed my shoulder lightly.

"We wanted to talk to both of you about why the Circle was after you two in particular. Why..." Dad's voice caught in his throat a little and he stopped talking.

"Okay, you're kind of scaring us a little, what's going on?" I demanded, taking Seth's hand tightly. What was this even about? I thought. Why couldn't they just tell us?

"The reason is..." Ms. Morgan yet again couldn't finish a damn sentence, me and Cammie looked at each other as if to say, what could possibly be so bad? "Look, we all had your best intentions in mind at the time, really we did. Everything that was done was to protect you, both of you. I hope you know that and will at least try to understand why we did what we did to keep you as safe as we could from the Circle of Cavan." She rambled. Dad cleared his throat and she stopped.

"Alexa, I just want you to know that what ever happens I'm still your dad and I still love you." I swallowed a lump in my throat, not daring to open my mouth to speak. I was scared and so was Cammie.

"When you were both born you were already targets for the Circle, there was nothing we could do to change that. Me, Matthew and Joe tried everything to keep you both safe but you were babies, defenseless and all it would take was one little slip up to loose you both." When we were born? Us both? "So we agreed that the only way to keep you both out of harms way for as long as we could was to separate you about 6 months after you were both born. We didn't want to, it was never the plan, but we could, I couldn't, risk loosing you two."

I gasped, catching on at the same time as Cammie. We turned to face each other, she clenched her jaws and swallowed. Taking in the new found information we had just received.

"What!" Me and Cammie both yelled at Dad and Ms. Morgan, unable to contain what we were feeling any longer.
"You mean..." I started, the blood rushing to me ears. I was so angry! How dare they do this and not tell us, we'd have been more prepared to face the Circle if we had known about each other, and who we were.
"...That we're twins?!" She finished for me. They nodded guiltily, Joe was looking at his feet and Ms. Morgan's eyes were filling with tears.

"See." Observed Dad, trying to break the tension. "You've even started finishing each others sentences." I glared at him a look that could have melted his eyes.

"I can't do this right now." Cammie got up quickly to leave, Ms. Morgan tried to stop her.

"Cammie!" She called out desperately.

"No!" Cammie snapped, "you lied to us, how could you!?"

"Please." Her mother, our mother, begged. But Cammie had already walked out. Dad reached for my hand but I slapped him away, my eyes blurring with red hot angry tears. I got up to leave, Seth and Zach following in our wake.

I heard dad telling Ms. Morgan that we just needed some time, and he wasn't wrong. I caught up to Cammie, who had stopped by the stairs leading down to the main doors. It seemed like I had been a different person the last time I had stood here.

She gave me a sympathetic smile, she knew I had drawn the short straw, we had both been lied to but it was me that had been given up. I felt strangely empty inside. Seth approached with caution and took my hand, I moved it away and he frowned.

"Can you give us a minute?" I asked him, he understood and told me he'd wait outside. Zach headed down the steps to leave too but halfway down he stopped and turned back to me and Cammie on his heels.

"Gallagher Girl, Tail Catcher." Zach nodded to both me and Cammie. "See you after summer." And I knew we would.
