Disclaimer: I don't own Supernatural.
Dean pulled up outside the bunker and turned off the engine turning to look at his passengers. Castiel was looking around. He should have wondered where they were but he didn't. The place felt familiar, not that he knew how that could be. But then Dean spoke and it made sense to him.
"Here we are, home." Dean said to the occupants of the car hoping to wake Sam up.
This made sense to Castiel. If he had known these men as it seemed he had done before his fall then he would no doubt recognise there home.
"Hey Cas. Can you help me get Sam out the back?" Dean asked as he got out the car. There was no way he could pull his giant of a brother out on his own.
"Of course Dean." Castiel replied. He tried to climb out of the car but found himself restricted by the seatbelt. He looked around to see how he could get it to release him but he could see no way.
"Dean." He said in a fearful voice. He didn't want to be stuck in the car forever.
"What's up buddy?" Dean asked as he came round to Cas' side off the car straight away. He hadn't heard Cas sound fearful often so it was enough to make him move quickly.
"I'm stuck." The young angel said with tears in his eyes and his lower lip starting to wobble.
Dean looked to see what the problem was and when he saw it was the seatbelt he almost laughed out loud, but one look at Cas' face stopped him. He couldn't laugh at the kid just because he couldn't work a seatbelt. Thinking about it he didn't think Cas had ever worn one before.
"Okay buddy. See this button here?" He said pointing to the seatbelt release. Castiel looked down with a frown and nodded, concentrating on Dean's every movement as if it was the most important lesson in the world. "Well just press it and…" Dean released the seatbelt then pulled it from Castiel's body. Cas just stared at him with awe as if he had just solved all the problems of the universe.
"Thank you Dean." He whispered in his awe. Gabriel had chosen well when he had asked the righteous man to look after him.
Dean just crouched back on his heels and rubbed the back of his neck. The adoring looks Cas was giving him were becoming uncomfortable. All he done was undo his seatbelt.
"Yeah okay no problem. Come on let's get Sam inside." He said standing and walking to back door to pull Sam out.
With Castiel's help he managed to manoeuvre Sam out of the car and to the door of the bunker. Once he had it open he let Cas go in first before he entered with Sam. Just as they had all got through to the top of the stairs he heard a swoosh and looked up just in time to see and arrow speeding its way towards their heads. Before he could think to react the arrow was suddenly smashed against the wall as if an invisible hand had brushed it aside. He then heard an ungodly screech, he looked down just in time to see Kevin Tran go flying across the room and one very angry baby angel advancing on him.
When Castiel had walked through the door of Dean's home he was fascinated by what he saw. The place was amazingly beautiful. He knew he would be happy here, if only because he could see books everywhere. And Castiel loved learning. He started to walk down the stairs so there was more room for Sam and Dean at the top of the staircase when he saw a young man fire an arrow at Dean. He didn't think, he just acted on instinct. He flung out his hand to send the arrow against the wall and then advanced on the young man. No one threatened the righteous man and lived. Not while he Castiel, angel of the lord was under the man's protection. He may only be a fledging, but he was still deadly to humans. With this thought he flung the man across the room away from his weapons and his barricade. The easier for him to get to him.
"Cas stop." Dean yelled when he saw what was going on. He guessed he should have mentioned that Kevin was here to Cas. He kept forgetting the guy didn't remember anything. "Shit." He said as he tried to put Sam down gently yet quickly. Not that he would reach them in time but he had to try. Kevin was his responsibility as much as Cas and Sam were at the moment.
He finally put Sam down and ran down the stairs shouting at Cas as he went.
Castiel was approaching the vile human who would threaten the righteous man when he heard Dean telling him to stop. But this was the same Dean who had brought a demon back with them. His judgement was obviously faulty and as an angel of the lord his was superior.
"Cas don't. We need him, he's a prophet." Dean finally shouted as he climbed over Kevin's homemade barricade.
Cas stopped in the middle of reaching out his hand to the man in front of him. He tilted his head at this. He can't be a prophet. If he was then the archangel protecting him would have smite him by now. No it can't be true he decided he must be deceiving Dean and with that thought he carried on reaching out with his hand.
"Kev, tell him your name." Dean shouted running across the room.
"I'm Kevin Tran. Please don't hurt me." Kevin said from his position of the floor and holding up his hands in the universal sign of surrender to the kid that had just flung him around the room.
Castiel stopped dead. Kevin Tran, prophet of the lord. It was true. But where was his angelic protection? What had happened to the world he knew? And with that thought he curled himself up into a ball, burying his head in his arms and hugging his knees to him and allowed the silent tears to fall from his eyes. He was alone and confused and he just wanted to be wrapped up safe in his brothers grace. Gabriel would know what was going on. Gabriel knew everything and he loved him. He would never leave him. So why wasn't he here? With these thoughts the tears started to become audible to the other occupants of the room.
Dean just stood there and closed his eyes. He had his unconscious brother at the top of the stairs and a baby angel sobbing on the floor. Okay brother first Cas second. With that thought he turned to Kevin.
"Kevin. Came you go get Sam's room ready?" He then crouched down besides Cas. "Hey Cas buddy, do you think you could help me get Sam to his bed? Then we'll talk okay?"
Castiel heard what Dean said and thought it over. If he helped with Sam Dean may be able to answer some of the questions. With that thought he looked up and nodded, wiping his tears on the sleeve of the big coat he was still wearing.
Dean stood and held out his hand to Castiel.
"Do you want to take of that coat?" Dean asked and when Cas looked up at him with a confused look he continued. "Then you won't trip and hurt yourself."
Castiel was going to agree but there was something at the back of his mind that told him no matter what happened, he could never lose the beige coat. It was as if it defined him. He didn't understand these things but he didn't want to lose anything else and so he just shook his head at Dean and firmly grabbed his hand.
"It's okay buddy. You don't have to take the coat off if you don't want to." Dean replied have seen the emotions crossing Cas' face at the suggestion. With that they went to get Sam and set him down in his room.
Gabriel had been following the feel of Castiel's grace the whole time he was driving. He was therefore very alarmed when it completely disappeared and no matter how hard he tried he couldn't sense Castiel anywhere. He pulled the car over and thought about what he had felt just before Castiel had disappeared from his radar. He hadn't been hurt any more than he was so it was unlikely that he'd died. But if he was with the Winchesters, they could have stopped for the night and therefore put up angel warding. That made the most sense. In which case he could probably catch up with them this evening he thought turning his car back onto the road and heading to the last place he had sensed Castiel. Lebanon, Kansas.
