Gabriel arrived in Lebanon at around 3 in the morning. He hoped he could find Castiel and the Winchester's before they moved on, he was getting worried about Castiel. He didn't like not being able to sense his brother as he wouldn't know if anything happened to him. But he was here now. Thinking that he parked his car at the gas 'n' sip and got out, going inside to ask how many motels there were in town and then getting back into his car so he could go and scour their parking lots for the impala.
Dean got Sam settled and sleeping on his bed before turning to Castiel. In truth he just wanted to go find his own bed but he couldn't he had three other people/beings to take care off first.
"I'm just going to have a quick word with Kevin so he can go to bed then you and I'll talk, okay buddy?" he asked the young angel. Castiel looked up to him and nodded his head before he spoke.
"I'll stay with Samuel. He is getting restless and I can calm him." Castiel replied climbing onto Sam's bed and fitting himself next to him, wrapping his trench coat around his body as he lay his hand on Sam's face.
"Okay, I'll be back soon." Dean replied and nodded his head towards the door for Kevin.
"So what's with the arrows Katniss?" he said as they made their way into the bunkers library.
"Sorry it's just it's been a bad day. After we talked this place went nuts, there was some alarm and the machines where freaking out and the bunker just locked down and my cell phone wasn't working. I thought the world was ending." Kevin replied frantically looking at Dean as if he had all the answers.
"Close the angels fell." Dean replied quietly. He didn't want Cas to hear this conversation.
"What does that mean?" Kevin asked fearful.
"Nothing good." was all Dean could say in reply, because honestly? He didn't have a clue.
"So what's with the kid? Is he really Cas?" Kevin asked realising Dean had no answers on his last questions.
"Yeah. I've no idea what happened. Look I need you to translate the angel tablet. Find that spell. ASAP." Dean said in a voice that brooked no arguments and looking at Kevin squarely.
"Yeah okay, sure." Kevin replied. He knew that this was important now.
"Good. In the morning I'm going to town to get supplies, you know food, Cas some clothes that fit, medical stuff. You alright to look after Sam and Cas?" Dean asked as he started to make his way back to his brother's room. Though Kevin's next words stopped him.
"You want me to look after the crazy kid angel?" he asked incredulously, Dean couldn't be serious. The kid just tried to kill him.
"It'll be fine. He knows you're a prophet now, so you'll have no problems." Dean replied trying to stay calm. He didn't need this now. Cas wouldn't hurt a prophet of the lord. No matter what.
"Yeah that's what you say." Kevin muttered. He didn't think he had said it loud enough for Dean to hear but he had.
Dean turned back to the man. He didn't need this shit right now. They all just had to suck it up and deal. "Kevin. I am trying to look out for everyone here but I'm gonna need your help. At least until Sam is back on his feet." He tried to calmly explain.
"And what if he doesn't get back on his feet. What if he-" Kevin started to say panicking before Dean interrupted him.
"Not going to happen Kev. So leave it and do as I say." He growled ending that discussion before it could begin. Sam was going to be fine.
"Fine." Kevin said throwing his hands in the air. If Dean was going to live in fantasy land then so be it. "I'm going to my room."
And with that Kevin stormed off. Dean rubbed his face and turns back to his brothers room. Time to talk to Cas. Crap, all he really wanted to do was sleep. But what the hell, sleep was over rated right?
Castiel was sitting next to Samuel stoking his hair the way he had observed human mothers do to their children when they were ill or sleeping. He hoped it helped him he wasn't sure that he grace was doing much good. He was only a fledging, and he hadn't yet learnt true healing, only the little bits Gabriel had shown him. Gabriel, if he was here he'd know what to do. He didn't want to fail Dean, he would just have to keep trying. He heard the door open behind him and turned to see Dean in the doorway.
"He's sleeping." Castiel said as he saw that Dean's eyes went automatically to his brother. He wondered if he would ever feel that protective. He knew he would never be a big brother but maybe one day when he got his charges he would feel the way Dean did about Sam.
"That's good Cas." Dean replied coming in and pulling a chair over so he could sit by Sam's bedside.
Castiel watched Dean sit then removed himself from the bed to climb into his lap and snuggle down as he used to with Gabriel. Dean's arms automatically curling around the child on his lap.
"So you got questions buddy?" he asked quietly into the top of Castiel's head. It had been a long time since he had had such a young child on his lap. In fact the last had been Sam when he had nightmares.
"Why'd the angels fall Dean?" Castiel asked quietly.
Dean closed his eyes. Cas couldn't start with something simple could he. Of course if he had he wouldn't have been Cas. "I don't know kid. But I'll find out okay?"
At that Castiel nodded. "Will you help us to return too?"
"Sure, if that's what you want Cas. I'll help you get back to heaven." Dean replied remembering the conversation he and Cas had had in the bar while they waited for the cupid to arrive so they could get her bow, about how the angels could kill Cas his he returned. Surely they wouldn't do that to baby Cas though would they? He was pulled out of these dark thoughts by Cas' voice.
"Do you know when Gabriel will come get me?" Castiel finally asked in a small voice, tinted with worry.
Dean frowned. He really didn't know what to say to that, cos he was pretty sure that Gabriel was never coming. He just didn't want to tell that to the lonely kid in his arms. He knew how it felt to have only your brother in the world and he refused to let Cas believe he was on his own. Maybe once he had learnt to trust them again, when he had learnt that he was family. Maybe then he would tell him about Gabriel. Until then he would lie with everything he had to keep Cas just a little bit happier. "I don't know Cas. But I do know he misses you and wishes he was here okay?"
At that Castiel nodded feeling better than he had since he woke in the forest. His brother hadn't forgotten him, Dean said so, and he would come for him. He knew deep inside that Gabriel wouldn't leave him alone like this, not for long. With that thought Castiel relaxed in the righteous mans arms, making himself comfortable, it wasn't the same as been wrapped in grace but it was close and it was warm. He was safe for now and he had his protector.
Dean felt Cas relax and breathed a sigh of relief that he had bypassed that question for now. And as everyone was for the time being as well as could be in the bunker Dean closed his eyes to get some sleep. Forgetting he had the king of hell in his trunk. But then that was a problem for tomorrow.
