"We need rules, Jane."
"Mhm," Jane hummed against Maura's neck, kissing the path leading to Maura's collarbone. Pulling Maura to a standing position, Jane pushed away the blanket that had been lying across her lap, permitting Jane complete access to her body.
"We have to remain professional in the workplace." Maura continued. And so did Jane.
"We can't allow this to distract us from our work." Maura's breath was coming quicker as Jane's hands wandered, gripping Maura's hips possessively.
"Mhm." Jane kisses traveled lower, finding the tender place between Maura's neck and shoulder. Maura's eyes closed of their own volition as she leaned into the gesture, her arms closed around Jane. Their bodies melted together. But Maura was insistent on her original objective.
"Let's not make this a big deal. We're just two women…together...dating…" Maura trailed off, suddenly distracted, as Jane tugged at the zipper keeping Maura's dress up. With resolution, Jane pulled on the clasp completely, dragging the zipper south at an agonizingly slow rate. The dress buzzed satisfyingly.
"Mhm," Jane agreed again having moved downward still, kissing Maura's now exposed shoulder.
"We're just two women…"
"…that are about to have sex." Jane's voice was low and husky cutting off Mara's train of thought. She was removing Maura's dress an inch at a time. Maura's body, flushed from Jane's coaxing, could feel every stitch falling away from her body.
"But the rules…Jane…did you…" Maura's breath escaped her when Jane began to kiss Maura's hips, dragging a single finger lazily across the inside of her thighs.
"Jane…" Maura breathed. She was no longer trying to get Jane to listen. She was pleading.
Jane pulled Maura's panties to her knees. The brunette looked up to find Maura's eyes. Maura met her gaze, waiting. Her brow furrowed in anticipation. Without breaking eye contact, Jane closed the distance, closing her mouth on Maura's most sensitive place. Parting her folds with her tongue, Jane found Maura's clit without hesitation. Maura's legs spread immediately, inviting her in. Placing two hands in Jane's hair just to keep her balance, all thoughts and objectives were silent.
Maura's legs began to shake under the strain of standing during Jane's ministrations. But Jane's efforts redoubled. Maura groaned loudly at the feeling of her orgasm rising in her core. Jane finally dropped to her knees completely, dedicated to finding Maura's orgasm. Jane's unused fingers finally found their way back to Maura's center. Maura cried Jane's name as the brunette teased at her opening. Whimpering, Maura began to beg for Jane to enter her.
"Please, Jane, oh God, please,"
Jane thrust her middle finger into Maura with zeal, eager to be inside her, feeling her pulse against her as she neared her peak. Maura's scream was immediate when Jane entered her. Her breathing came faster, Jane could feel Maura tighten around her. When Jane pressed a second finger into Maura, the blonde's body responded, thrusting repeatedly against Jane before Maura's orgasm completely overcame her, ricocheting through her body with a fury. Maura's screams echoed through Jane's apartment, the walls etched with Maura's voice. Releasing her mouth from Maura's center, Jane's fingers curled gently into Maura, bringing her orgasm to a slow decline.
Maura's knees began to buckle, Jane stood quickly, taking Maura into her arms, supporting her body weight. Maura found Jane's brown eyes, the ones smiling deeply down at her.
"Screw the rules," Maura smiled back.
"'Atta' girl." Smiling into each other, Jane's mouth found Maura's. Scooping up Maura's limp body, Jane carried her girlfriend into her bedroom.
Jane woke up first. Like always. Unable to stay in bed, even despite who was in bed with her, Jane pulled her bra from the floor and reattached it as she walked into the kitchen for coffee. Before leaving the bedroom completely, Jane turned to find Maura lying comfortably on her stomach, face turned toward her. Jane's sheets covered her from the waist down leaving her back completely bare. Her blonde hair sprawled in every direction, a testament to the little amount of sleeping they actually did the night before. Jane chuckled to herself knowing how deeply this woman affected her. Shaking her head of the lingering giddiness, Jane returned to her hunt for caffeine.
Jane had the TV in her living room on a low volume as she sipped at her freshly made coffee. After the initial sip, she leaned forward over her counter settling in to watch the Red Sox highlights on Sports Center. Warm hands wrapped around her middle. Jane smiled deeply into her cup. Maura pressed her body against Jane's back, resting her chin on Jane's shoulder.
"Good morning," Jane cooed.
"Good morning," Maura smiled back leaning in to kiss her cheek.
"Coffee?" Jane offered turning into Maura's embrace.
"I only drink tea. The caffeine in coffee alone has long term health risks that…"
"Okay, okay," Jane put her hands up in a placating gesture. She was smiling anyway. "I get it, no coffee for you." Maura waited only seconds before she could no longer keep herself from kissing Jane again. Their lips met softly, a welcome change from the passion of the night before.
"I should shower." Maura concluded into Jane's mouth. Jane's excitement was evident but Maura chuckled warmly, "Alone." Kissing her one last time, Maura vacated Jane's arms to reenter the brunette's bedroom. The shower started moments later. Jane checked the clock on her microwave. She had an hour before she had to leave her apartment to make it to work on time. Jane decided to relax for the remaining time. Grabbing her phone from the kitchen counter, she set her alarm just in case. Settling into the cushions on her couch, Sports Center droned in the background as sleep quickly overcame her.
What seemed like only seconds later, a freshly showered and dressed Maura leaned over her brunette, kissing her awake.
"Well that's one way to wake up," Jane stretched widely under Maura's form.
"I'm going to run back to my place before going in to work," Maura's voice was low and seductive. Jane's eyes opened completely, taking in Maura's intentions. Her response was warm and comforting.
"I can't show up in yesterday's clothes. What would my detectives think?" Maura smiled dangerously. Jane brushed a hand through Maura's wet hair before taking her chin between her thumb and forefinger and bringing her lips onto her own.
"They'll think you've been taken off the market."
Maura raised an eyebrow at Jane. "Or that their Chief Medical examiner is less respectable than they previously thought." Maura concluded finally. Jane kissed her again, a goodbye. Maura rose to leave as Jane watched her go.
But before Maura could leave the apartment completely, Maura turned back to Jane, smiling dangerously, "See you at the precinct, officer."
Jane covered her mouth with her hand as a grin completely overtook her. God, I love this woman. Jane's confession rang in her mind like a bell striking midnight. When the door finally clicked closed, Jane's grin was still spread across her face. She couldn't hide it even long after Maura was gone.
"Shit," Jane murmured quietly leaning back against the couch as she realized that she couldn't shake off Maura's lingering effects. Keep it together, Rizzoli. It's only day one. Kinda. Jane checked the time on her phone to distract herself. Realizing it was time to get ready, Jane removed herself from the cushions, decidedly ready to move forward with her day.
Once she was showered, dressed, and her hair was properly moussed, Jane glanced at herself in her bathroom mirror before grabbing her keys and heading to the precinct. She could feel her face glowing. Stop it, Jane. She scolded herself. Clear your head. Stop thinking about her. Clearing her throat, Jane plastered a realistic scowl on her face. It's just another day.
Twenty minutes later, Jane strode into the Boston Police Department with a single resolution: don't think about Maura.
"Rizzoli!" Lieutenant Cavanaugh called from the café.
"Sir?"
"Meeting. Ten minutes. I need all units."
"Yes, sir." Jane was relieved to find that not thinking about Maura might be easier than she thought. If work is going to be as distracting as it usually was, she would have no problem not thinking of her blonde for the remainder of the day. Hopefully. The captain was passing her, entering the elevator, as Jane considered the ramifications of being in a relationship with the chief medical examiner. I wonder if I actually would get in trouble? Jane thought as the doors of the elevator closed, sealing the Captain in. Jane turned to the café, deciding to get a coffee with her spare ten minutes.
"Rizzoli, you heading up to the meeting?" Detective Martinez called before she could take another step.
"Yeah, why?"
"Then let's go!" Martinez pushed Jane into the next elevator. The doors were closing when a hand reached in quickly to stop the progress; the metal doors lurched back open.
Jane sighed heavily as the doors opened fully. Who the hell is it now? Grouchy Jane was back on duty. But what met her brown eyes wasn't another cop or detective. It was a woman. A tall, thin, strikingly beautiful, dark haired woman in a pencil skirt and a white button down that made Jane stare unnecessarily.
"Sorry about that." The woman apologized glancing between Jane and Martinez.
"It's fine, chica." Martinez swooned. The woman barely cast him a glance before settling on Jane.
"I'm Lauren." She thrust a hand at Jane. All at once this new woman's perfume hit Jane with no intention of letting go. Jane swallowed thickly as the smell of fresh roses filled the enclosed space.
"Jane," Jane cleared her throat steadying herself. "Uh, Rizzoli, Boston PD." Her hand closed hesitantly on Lauren's.
"Nice to meet you, Jane." The woman's smile could kill.
As the elevator reached the third floor, the doors opened quickly. Jane stepped past the woman, determined never to see her again. Jane followed the herd of detectives and uniforms crowding into the conference room. When Jane was finally able to enter the room, space clearing before her, she was surprised to find Maura and her team standing in the corner. Her stomach leapt at the sight of the beautiful woman before her, standing amid the detectives and uniforms. An otherwise gloomy atmosphere made brighter by the blonde in the corner, her blonde. A small smile crept up the corners of Jane's mouth. But what the hell is going on? Jane thought as she met Maura's eyes.
"Alright, now that most of you are here, we can begin." Lieutenant Cavanaugh stood up at the front of the room acknowledging everyone. Jane and Maura simultaneously turned to face the front of the room to watch what unfolded.
"I've called you all here because there's going to be some changes to our code of conduct here at BPD," The chief began. "I have with me someone from the Justice Department to help explain." Ah shit, not the Justice Department. Jane rolled her eyes, her body language immediately changing. The chief gestured to the door behind Jane. She still didn't turn around to meet the obviously stuffy suit from JD. Cavanaugh bowed away as Jane could feel a presence approaching. Normally, Jane would not have moved in the slightest to accommodate the newcomer. But she was frozen in her place when a sweet, familiar smell filled the room. Jane turned just in time to feel the girl from the elevator brush her chest against Jane's shoulder, twisting to fit through the crowd. Their eyes met briefly before elevator-girl turned away to approach the front of the room. All eyes were frozen on elevator-girl. All except Maura's. Maura hadn't missed a thing.
"Thank you, Lieutenant. My name is Lauren Stokes. I'm the Public Relations Consultant for the Office of the Justice Department. Some of you I've already had the pleasure of meeting," her eyes generally surveyed the room but paused ever so slightly on Jane. Jane's jaw clenched unwilling to participate. "Some of you, I haven't."
"The Justice Department is responsible for overseeing the equal treatment of the public and of its own employees. It's been brought to our attention that there has been an outbreak of inter-departmental relations throughout the east coasts precincts that has caused not only an unfair treatment of suspects but favoritism in the work force. As we are the ones responsible for the fair and just treatment of the public, it's our job to remain neutral and ensure our law enforcement does the same."
"So, we're starting a new rule. No dating between co-workers. None." Cavanagh stepped in, announcing the official change. "If I catch wind of anything going on, you'll find yourself on probation so fast, your head will spin."
Jane's mind reeled. Does it count if we can keep it a secret? Does it count if we just started dating? Come on! Jane couldn't keep herself from not looking at Maura anymore. She turned her head in Maura's direction; Maura met her eyes across the room.
What are we going to do? Jane frantically searched for an answer.
Maura's face fell. She couldn't look at Jane any longer.
