Hello all. I would first like to thank saltandburn1, QueenWoofy and Guest for the lovely reviews. I'm glad you are all liking the story so far. I would also like to thank those of you who have favoured and followed this story since my last update, you guys are awesome.
So now on with the tale. This is a really long chapter but I couldn't split it so I hope you enjoy it.
Disclaimer: I don't own supernatural.
"So the angels fell, Cas is a kid and Gabriel is alive." Sam said slowly to his brother trying to get his head round all that seemed to have happened while he was unconscious.
"Yep. Oh I also have Crowley in my trunk. Should probably do something about that." Dean replied with a smile. He didn't care what was going on with the world right now, all he cared about that he had his Sammy back.
"Yeah probably." Sam responded sarcastically at his brother's carefree attitude to having the king of hell in his trunk. But that didn't deflect his mind from everything else Dean had told him. "What the hell happened man?" he asked hoping Dean had some answer.
"Honestly Sammy I've no clue, Cas went up to talk to Metatron came back a baby angel. I'm hoping Kevin can get something from the tablet." Dean replied running a hand over his face. It seemed Sam was going to let in bask in the happiness of him being back right now.
"Well we should get Crowley into the dungeon." Sam said ever practical and pushing himself up on the bed to get out and help Dean.
"Whoa there Sammy. You're not going anywhere." Dean replied jumping up when he saw Sam was trying to get up.
"But we need to get Crowley inside." Sam protested, though just sitting had caused pain to slice down his lungs.
"Yeah well I'll do it. You heard what Gabriel said, nothing strenuous." Dean said helping his brother to lie back down on the pillows he had propped behind him.
"Since when do we listen to Gabriel?" Sam asked weakly. He hated this, being ill and leaving Dean to take care of everything. Especially with all that was going on at present.
"Since he healed you Sammy. Now stay. I'm gonna get you some food, you haven't eaten in like a day." Dean replied once he had Sam settled making his way to the door as Sam just shook his head at his brother. He could really be a mother hen sometimes, not that Sam was complaining, he secretly liked Dean taking care of him. It reminded him of when he was little, it was always Dean who came when he was upset or ill. Always Dean who was there for him.
As Dean made his way down the corridor to the kitchen he heard squeals coming from Cas' room. Without thought he ran to the door and burst into the room only to find little Cas lying on the bed shrieking his head off as Gabriel tickled him. He decided to take note of how ticklish Cas was. You never knew when info like that would come in handy, while he leaned against the door frame and crossed his arms at the angel's antics.
"I thought you were resting Gabriel." He said not bothering to hide the amusement in his voice.
Gabriel looked up at Dean standing in the doorway and Dean could see the shadows under his eyes though he still had the same old trickster smile on his face.
"I was trying but someone" he said accenting the word with more tickles to Cas' tummy. "Decided to keep reminding me that angels didn't need to sleep. So I thought I'd see just how tried I could make him." He finished with one final tickle before flopping back on the bed and looking at Dean hoping he could understand the request in his eyes.
Dean looked at the archangel and got the point. With that he turned to Cas. "Hey Cas I'm going to make Sam some food, why don't you come help me? I also picked you up some new clothes while I was out, maybe you could try them on." He said holding his hand out to the baby angel.
Castiel turned to Gabriel to silently ask him if it was alright from him to go with Dean. He did want to help look after Sam, he liked helping.
Gabriel smiled down at his little brother and nodded his head and as Castiel was climbing of the bed he looked to Dean and mouthed the words thank you. Dean just shrugged. Gabriel saved his brother only fair that he helped look after his. Plus he liked looking after little Cas, it was fun to see how much he was still like the fledgling he once was.
"Okay, come on buddy, let's take the clothes to the kitchen." He said once Castiel had got to him and taken his hand and they walked out the door to detour to the library where he had left the bags from the second hand store.
Once they got to the kitchen Dean pulled out the jeans, t-shirt and jumper he had got Cas and opened the packets of new underwear he had brought him and gave them all to the angel.
"I hope you like the picture on the t-shirt. It was all they had." He said referring to the fire truck that was blazed across the front.
Castiel looked at the picture and wondered why it would matter what was on his clothing. To be honest he wasn't sure why he needed new clothes at all, his body was covered was it not? Why did he need different coverings?
"Dean why do I need new clothes?" he asked holding up the items with confusion.
Dean just looked at him. Did he really just ask that? Okay. Well. "Umm, cos buddy what your wearing isn't good for kids. You could trip and hurt yourself. Plus these new ones will be a lot more comfy." He replied crouching down so he could look Cas in the eye.
"And the picture? Why does that matter?" he continued to ask. He really wanted to understand the humans.
"Well some kids like certain things on their tees. I remember when Sam was about your age he cried for hours cos he couldn't have the one with the dinosaur on it." Dean replied with a smile making Castiel very confused.
"Sam has never been centuries old Dean. How could he be my age? And why would he want a prehistoric lizard on his t-shirt?" Castiel didn't think he would ever understand.
"Okay." Dean replied trying to think how he could answer those questions. "I meant when Sam was the same age as you look in human years and Sam loves dinosaurs." He finally replied.
"I know a lot about dinosaurs Dean. Maybe I could tell him about them." Castiel replied suddenly happy about the idea of sharing his knowledge.
Dean smiled and nodded replying "yeah I'm sure he would love that." While he smirked on the inside at the thought of Sam who couldn't get out of bed being lectured about lizards from a little Cas. Now that was something he would almost pay to see.
"Very well Dean. I will change my clothes." Castiel replied. With that Dean smiled and made his way to the stove to heat his brother some soup.
Castiel put down his new clothes and looked at them with a concentrated look. He thought he knew which pieces went where on his body, though he did have a few sideways glances at Dean to make sure he had it right. With that he pulled on the new smaller boxers which he had to say did feel better as he no longer had to pull them up every minute. He then pulled on the jeans and tried to work out the fastenings. He could do this without Dean's help, he was an angel he thought, though he quickly gave up with doing up the jeans and moved on to the t-shirt. Now he had a real problem. To put on the tee he would have to take of his coat, and he really didn't want to do that.
Dean saw that Cas was standing there holding the t-shirt and glaring at it as if it had somehow personally offended him. Confused he asked. "What's up buddy?" while carrying on with getting Sam's food.
"The leg wrapping won't close and to put on the top I have to take off my coat. " Castiel finally replied admitting defeat and turning to Dean with tears in his eyes.
Dean saw the tears and closed his own eyes before going to Cas.
"Well first let's sort your jeans okay?" with that he pulled up the shirt Cas was still wearing getting him to hold it so he could fasten the buttons. They were a bit loose around the waist even done up, what they needed was a belt. With that thought his eyes went to Cas' tie and taking it from around the baby angels neck he threaded it through the belt loops in the jeans fastening it so they stayed up. Right that bit done. Now the next.
"Okay Cas, you're gonna have to remove the coat, you don't want to be wearing this big shirt with your new jeans do you?" Dean asked, he could see the conflict in Castiel's eyes so he tried another tack. "Do it for me?" And when that didn't seem to be working he went for broke. "I'm sure Gabriel would love to see you in all your new clothes. Think you could take the coat of to please Gabriel?" at that Castiel slowly slid the coat of his shoulders wrapping his arms around it once it was off.
"Good job buddy, let's get this shirt off and you can put the t-shirt and jumper on." Dean said while pulling the shirt from Castiel, it slipped over his head easily.
"Then I can put my coat back on?" Castiel asked hopefully rushing to put his t-shirt on.
"Well you could but I got you something else. Do you want to see it?" Dean asked standing as Cas pulled the jumper over his head and grabbed his coat back into his arms. He wasn't sure he wanted to know what else Dean had got him.
Dean just smiled and reached into another bag and pulled out the small kid's trench coat he had got. It was exactly the same as the one Cas had in his arms, just this one would fit his new little body.
Castiel just stood there and stared when he saw what Dean was holding. It was the same as his big one, but this was one was just the right size for him. With that thought he carefully set down the one in his arms to take the one Dean held out to him and hugged it close as he smiled. He then carefully, refusing any assistance from Dean, put on his new coat. Spinning round he saw that it flared out, he loved it. Turning back to Dean he threw his arms around the righteous man's legs as a way to say thank you.
"Whoa, okay Cas. Why don't you take your old clothes and put them in your room then come back and you can help me make Sam a sandwich." He said looking down at the little angel who was just grinning up at him. At that suggestion Cas spun round, grabbed his stuff and ran from the room.
Dean just shook his head at the kid and went back to getting Sam his soup.
Once Cas returned Dean sat him on one of the kitchen stools and gave him the bread and spreads need to make Sam a PB & J sandwich. He then turned back to putting Sam's soup in a bowl. Putting it on a tray with a plate for the sandwich he turned back to Cas to see the rather mangled remains of two slices of bread which could only be called a sandwich by the most generous definition of the word. Not that he said this to the angel. No to Cas he just smiled told him what a good job he'd done and put it on the tray. Oh how he was going to enjoy watching Sammy eat that culinary delight.
And Castiel smiling pleased with himself for helping make Samuel some food followed Dean down to his brother's room to present their offerings.
