Dean returned to Sam's room with a tray of food, and though he hadn't realised until Dean mentioned it Sam was hungry. He was therefore looking forward to whatever his brother had prepared for him.
He noticed that Cas followed Dean in, he still wasn't sure how to deal with kid Cas but he guested it wouldn't be that different from dealing with the older version.
Dean put the tray down on Sam's bedside table and Sam looked over trying to keep his joy at food from his face. No need to let Dean know he was right. The first thing he saw was a bowl of soup which just made him roll his eyes, then he noticed the plate and hoped that it was someone more substantial. Pulling it towards him he saw it was what looked like two mangled pieces of bread, but to be honest it could well be anything for all he knew. Well he certainly wasn't eating that.
"What's this?" he bitchfaced to his brother but before Dean could respond Sam felt his bed dip and looked over to see the kid climb up on the end as he replied to Sam's question.
"it is a PB and J sandwich. Dean let me make if for you. He said they were your favourites. Is that correct Samuel?" Castiel asked tilting his head at the man. He didn't seem very keen on his sandwich, which upset the young angel.
Dean watched Cas with a fond smile as he climbed onto his brothers bed, you wouldn't believe that only yesterday the kid was scared to go anywhere near him, but then he saw his face fall and looked at Sam who had a disgusted look on his face as he peered at the sandwich.
Dean coughed to get Sam's attention then just looked at him. Sam was confused, what did Dean want? Then he looked at Cas and saw the upset face and realised he should probably thank him for the sandwich or something. He just really wasn't that good with kids, that was more Dean's territory.
"Oh, yeah. PB & J is my favourite. Thanks Cas. It looks like an amazing...creation. And Cas? You can call me Sam if you like." he finally said smiling at the kid-angel.
Castiel looked up at Sam and a smile split his face again. Sam liked his sandwich.
Dean sat in the chair by the bed and watched as Cas smiled at Sam with a smile of his own, then he turned to Sam and that smile became a smirk. "So you going to try Cas' amazing creation then Sammy?" he said crossing his arms at his brother.
"Of course." Sam replied through gritted teeth as he took half the sandwich and took a bite. "Mm, its great Cas." he said with fake enthusiasm, then his face lit up with a real smile as an idea came to him. "But I don't think I will be able to mange it all having just woken up so I think I should share it with Dean don't you?" he finished smirking right back at his brother.
Dean just rolled his eyes at Sam. The sandwich couldn't be that bad. With that thought he smiled and said "fine with me." while grabbing the other half of the sandwich and shovelling it in his mouth.
Sam just sat there with his mouth open as he watched Dean devour his half of the sandwich. What the hell? He knew his brother would eat anything but really?
Once he finished Dean turned to Cas with a genuine smile on his face which was full of caring "that was great Cas. Best sandwich I've ever had." he said.
And Sam watching realised he recognised that face. It was the one Dean had always given him, and only him, as a kid. It was Deans I'm proud of and I love you face. And seeing Dean direct it to Cas made him feel weird. Not that he didn't think Cas deserved the emotions. He knew Cas and Dean were close, but they were best friends and now, Dean was caring for him and looking at him as if he was his little brother...or his kid. Sam really didn't understand how he felt about that. He really didn't know how to deal with kid Cas. Hell he had enough trouble working out how to deal with the adult angel version of the guy. Before he could slip into these thoughts to deeply Cas pulled him out by asking him a question.
"Dean said you liked dinosaurs Sam. I know a lot about them, would you like me to tell you?" He asked innocently from the end of the bed smiling up at the human.
"Um," was all Sam could say. He really wanted to say no but out of the corner of his eyes he could see Dean glaring at him so he guessed he should say yes. "Yeah sure." he finally replied warily while eating some of his soup.
Dean then proceeded to sit back and watch the interactions between Cas and his brother. With Sam nodding in the right places and occasionally trying to get a word in edge ways as Cas sat there and lectured him on dinosaurs. Dean was right it really was very entertaining.
Gabriel woke from his sleep to find himself alone in the dark room, though he did see Castiel's coat folded neatly on a shelve. How the hell did Dean get him out of that? He wondered vaguely as he stretched. He should probably get up now. Dean no doubt had his hands full with caring for Sam as well as Cas and the guy probably needed some sleep at some point. He didn't look like he'd had much of it when he had seen him earlier. With that Gabriel sat up and tested how much of his grace had recharged. The small amount he felt worried him. He would need to make sure he had enough to keep healing Sam and would therefore have to not use any for anything else. Looked like he was going to be relatively human for the next while then he thought uncomfortably. Being human was not something he really thought he would enjoy. There was a reason why when he left heaven he became a trickster and not a human. He liked his powers, but he had to heal Sam first. He told Dean he would, so he would.
It was with these thoughts that Gabriel made his way out of the room he was in, wondering where everyone was. He grace automatically concentrated on Castiel's telling him that he was in Sam's room, and if Castiel was there it was likely that Dean would be too. With that thought he made his way down the corridor to Sam's room.
Gabriel arrived in the doorway to find his brother talking twenty to the dozen at Sam who was just sitting there like he was scared to move or something and Dean, who was sitting in the chair relaxed and leaning back with his eyes half closed, was smiling at the two on the bed, as if it was the best scene he could ever imagine seeing.
"Hello people." Gabriel said from the doorway interrupting Castiel.
"Gabriel." Castiel shrieked and jumped off the bed to run up to his brother with his arms up wanting to be picked up. and Gabriel, after one look at Castiel's cute and innocent face knew he couldn't say no, bent and pulled the fledging into his arms.
"I see you got new clothes Cassie. Looking good." he said when he had Castiel resting on his hip and pulled at his jumper and coat to show the fledging what he meant.
"Dean got them for me. Do you like the coat? I love it." Castiel replied snuggling into his brothers shoulder and resting head there. He could never have enough of being with his brother.
"Suits you." Gabriel replied with a humorous smile to Dean who had opened his eyes at Gabriel's entrance and was now blinking them repeatedly as if he was trying to keep himself awake.
"You wanna sit?" Dean asked getting up from the chair. Now Gabriel was up he had something he had to do.
"I'm fine. You look like you could do with the rest Dean-o." Gabriel replied smiling at the angel in his arms and not really paying much attention Dean or Sam any more.
"Na your alright man. I need to go sort the junk in my trunk." Dean replied with a stretch and a groan at the thought of now having to deal with Crowley.
This sentence caused Gabriel to look up at him with a raised eyebrow and Sam to try to get up again.
"Dean I told you your not doing that alone." He said through gritted teeth at the pain.
"I told you your not getting out that bed." Dean replied pushing his giant of a brother down easily.
"Where you planing on putting him?" Gabriel asked.
"In the dungeon." Dean replied still glaring at Sam watching to make sure he didn't move again.
"you got a dungeon? Of course you do. Okay I'll help you get him there." Gabriel said putting Castiel back down on the bed. And causing both Sam and Dean to turn and look at him in amazement. "What?!" he said when he noticed the looks.
"You're going to help me?" Dean asked incredulous.
"Well yeah. Don't really want him loose with my little bro here do I?" Gabriel replied as if it was obvious.
Deans face suddenly showed understanding and he nodded though Sam was still somewhat confused, surely Cas could look after himself right?
"Hey Cassie." Gabriel said bending down to be on eye-level with his little bro. "I'm just going to help Dean move something and I want you to stay here with Sam for me okay?" he said.
"but I want to come with you." Castiel whined at his big brother. Why couldn't he come too?
"I know kiddo but I really want you to keep an eye on Sam. He's still not completely better and I don't want anything to happen to him while I'm helping Dean." Gabriel explained in whispers with an honest look in his eyes.
"Oh. Very well Gabriel I'll watch Sam for you." Castiel replied loudly. with that he crawled to the head of the bed and patted Sam on the face.
Sam up looked at Dean with a look of pure horror on his face and Dean who was trying really hard not to laugh just said "now be good Sammy. See you in a bit." as he exited Sam's room with Gabriel following him.
