The rest of the day after Gabriel had left went as would be expected. Castiel helped Kevin find the references he needed to translate the tablet and when Sam woke the fledgling was the one to inform him that Gabriel had gone to rescue Dean.
At this of course Sam tried to get up and follow him only to find himself pinned to his bed by Castiel's hand.
"You need to rest Sam. Gabriel will rescue Dean. He can do anything." he said with complete sincerity. And though Sam didn't have the faith in Gabriel as Cas did he realised that if a kid could keep him in bed he would probably be more of a liability to Dean than help. Though that didn't stop him from demanding all the information that Cas had. When he realised it was Abaddon that Dean was going up against he became even more worried. Though he tried not to let it show. He didn't want to upset Cas.
And so the occupants of the bunker carried on as they had been except their worry increased the tension.
It wasn't until night had fallen outside and Kevin and Sam had finally succumbed to sleep that Castiel found himself missing his brother. When Gabriel was here he was never alone, yet now he found himself aimlessly wandering the corridors of the bunker. Unable to settle he hoped the others wouldn't sleep for long though he knew humans needed it. It was then that he heard it. Muffled sounds coming from a room at the end of the corridor. And being the curious angel that he was he made his way to the room and listened. It sounded like someone in pain. With that thought he opened the door to a room full of shelves. Switching on the light he listened. He was about to call out when a voice from the other side of the shelves spoke.
"Squirrel is that you? Come back for answers have we? Well I wouldn't give you any."
Castiel was confused, why would a woodland animal want answers?
"Or maybe its Moose? Come to have some more fun have we?"
More animals? There were no animals in the bunker, not that he had found at any rate. With that thought he slowly and silently moved towards the shelves that the voice was coming from, not sure what he was going to do, but thinking he could at least correct the man's assumption that there were animals here.
"Well hello Kitten. Its been a while." the voice spoke again causing Castiel to frown. Now it was a kitten? "I know your there Castiel. No need to hide from me. I can feel your grace." the disembodied voice spoke again startling Castiel.
No human can feel an angels grace so that must mean... with that thought he concentrated on the voice and the area it was coming from. It was then he realised that the was an active key of Solomon on the other side. The voice belonged to the demon. Crowley. With that thought Castiel quickly moved away from the shelves and out the door turning off the light as he went. He knew Gabriel would not like him talking to the demon and he felt it was safer to stay well away. With that he made his way to the library hoping to bury himself in some of the books there for the rest of the night.
He tried to block it out his thoughts but he was scared. How did a demon know his name? How did a demon know him so well that he could recognise his grace? he had no answers to these questions and he realised he didn't want to be alone. With that thought he picked up the book he was reading and headed to Sam's room. Sam would protect him. With that he climbed onto the man's bed and snuggled down next to him feeling the comfort from Sam's heat relaxing him.
Gabriel pulled the stolen car up to the deserted town and grabbed his weapons, making sure he had the two angel blades up his sleeves and he knew which was his, and sticking holy water and salt in his pockets just in case he needed them. With that he got out starting the search for Dean, hoping he wasn't in serious trouble, or too late.
Dean sent Tracey to go get his car and turned to Abaddon as she recovered from the holy water he had thrown in her face. Just as Tracey left three other demons showed up surrounding him. Crap he thought but he would go out fighting, with that he pulled out the angel blade he had brought with him and tried to stab Abaddon with it. She easy deflected it from him, twisting his arm behind his back, trapping him. The other demons just stood by and watched.
And then she started talking. What was it with demons and loving the sound of their own voices? he wondered abstractly as she dislocated his shoulder. He wasn't stupid. Dean knew that he had a snow balls chance in hell of getting out of this one alive. But he wouldn't give this bitch the satisfaction of breaking him first.
"Are we going to fight or make out? cos I'm getting some mixed signals here." He said up at her as she caressed his face.
Gabriel went cautiously through the town, finally hearing the sound of talking, making his way too a nearby corner he looked round. Dean was on the ground and a woman, Abaddon if he wasn't mistaken, had Dean's hand twisted back in one hand the other on his face, listening he heard her speak.
"It can get worse, trust me. Cos once I'm on top I'll let you watch. And I'll use your body. Have you ever felt an infant's blood drip down your chin? Or listened to a girl scream as you rip her guts out? Cos you will. You and me lover, we'll have a grand old time."
It was at this point that Gabriel felt he had heard enough, with that thought and checking to make sure his archangel blade was easy to get out of his sleeve he walked round the corner.
"What is it with everyone wanting to wear Dean-o to the prom? I never really understood the appeal." He said loudly waving a lolly in his hand.
"Loki. What are you doing here?" Abaddon asked in disgust at the archangel causing Gabriel to smile. So she didn't know who he was, that was good. It would make this so much easier.
"Oh I was just looking for my favourite play things, though seems one of them is a little busy right now. Oh well I can back. When your done." He said raising his fingers as if to click out.
"What do you want with the Winchesters?" Abaddon asked. Why was he here?
"Fun, what else?" Gabriel replied with a smirk making his way into the centre of the demons and standing next to Dean.
"Well find your fun else where Loki." Abaddon said dismissing him.
Gabriel took another step towards the knight of Hell.
"Sorry honey, no can do." and with that he dropped his archangel blade into his hand. "Oh and by the way. It isn't Loki, it Gabriel." he finished as he plunged the blade through her heart killing her outright.
Ripping it back out, he then turned dropping Castiel's blade into his other hand as he stabbed the two demons on either side of abandon. Turning to finish the last he saw that it was already dead, Dean standing over the body with his demon killing knife in his hand.
"Nice timing Gabe." Dean said looking down at the bodies, but most especially at the one that was once Abaddon.
"Well I do have my moments." Gabriel replied with smirk pulling another lolly from his pocket and opening it.
Dean just rolled his eyes at that. Before he asked "So she dead?"
"Hello archangel. Course she's dead." Gabriel answered offended that Dean didn't think he had the power to kill one measly little knight of Hell.
Before Dean could think of a way to thank Gabriel, he heard the roar of the impala making its way into the town, turning he saw Tracey return with the car. Not that they needed any of the stuff now.
Castiel had managed to get through the night at Sam's side. He then proceeded to do as he had done the day before, helping Kevin and Sam. Though with Sam he found himself healing him as much as he could, without Gabriel's help the pain had returned to the hunter in full force. All Castiel could do was try to ease it enough for Sam to sleep. He hoped his brother returned soon. Sam would need him too.
Once night fell again he once more found himself alone. It was not something he liked. In heaven he would have other brothers and sisters around but down here it was just him and Gabriel. He didn't like it one bit. With that thought he went back to Sam's room and curled up once more on his bed next to him. He lay down with his head on Sam's chest listening to the sound of his heart beat and wrapped his arms around the man, though unlike when he had done the same to Dean, Sam didn't respond by wrapping his around Castiel's little body in return. It made him feel even more alone. With those thoughts the tears he had been holding at bay since Gabriel left began to fall. He knew his brother could do anything and he knew deep down Gabriel would return. But that didn't stop him missing him.
Gabriel and Dean got back to the bunker in record time by alternating who was driving. They both wanted to get back to there respective brothers ASAP. As soon as Dean pulled up at the bunker Gabriel was out the car and through the door of the bunker shouting Castiel's name. He hadn't realised how much he had missed the fledgling until they had got back. Suddenly from across the library he heard and answering shout and Castiel hurtled across the room and into his brothers arms.
Gabriel just stood there and held him whispering meaningless words, before turning to Dean with smile of relief to be back with his family.
Dean watched the display of happiness both Gabriel and Cas showed at seeing each other with an understanding smile on his face before making his way to his brothers room to let him know all that had happened.
