"Dean." Sam said when his brother appeared in his doorway. God how he wished he could of got up to greet him but it was taking all his energy just to sit up. Though Cas had helped with that.
"Hey Sammy. How you doing?" Dean asked coming to sit on the chair next to the bed.
"I'm fine Dean. What about you? What happened with Abaddon?"
"We fought, she tried to talk me to death, then Gabriel ganked her sorry ass. So I say we had a win." Dean replied smiling at his brother. At least that was one less thing they had to worry about now.
"Really Abaddon's gone?" Sam asked with relief.
"Yep." Dean replied. Suddenly he heard voices coming down the corridor.
Once Dean had left Gabriel put Castiel down on the floor, pulled the blade from his sleeve and crouched down to Castiel's level.
"Thanks for the loan little one." He said presenting the blade back to the angel it truly belonged too.
"Did it help?" Castiel asked taking the blade from his brother, just holding it in his hand as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
"It sure did kiddo. Now we should probably put that back in our room before Dean-o see's you with it. Think it might give him a heart attack." Gabriel replied smiling at him.
"Why?" Castiel asked tilting his head. He was very confused, why would Dean's heart attack if he saw him with his blade?
"Because I don't think he realises quite what it means to be an angel Cassie." Gabriel replied with a sigh. It was something he wasn't sure he could truly explain to Dean either.
"Of course not Gabriel he is human. But why would his heart attack?" Castiel asked still confused.
At that Gabriel laughed, standing he ruffled his little brothers hair before taking his hand and leading him to their room.
"it's just a saying Cassie." He replied once the laughter left him.
Castiel didn't think this was a very good explanation but he had a feeling that Gabriel would not give him a better one so he decided to change the subject to something that had been frightening him.
"Gabriel why does Crowley recognise my grace and know my name?" he asked innocently. If anyone had answers it would be his big brother.
At this sentence Gabriel stopped moving. "How do you know that he does Castiel?" he asked in a stern, angry voice. He really hoped that Castiel hadn't gone to see him. Oh god, no don't let Cassie have seen the king of bloody hell.
"I heard noises while Sam and Kevin were sleeping…I was looking round and found a room… The demon…started talking…when I entered. I didn't mean for him to…know I was there…but he said he knew…I was…I'm sorry Gabriel…I-I didn't mean to be bad." Castiel managed to get out through the tears that were pouring down his face at the thought of having disobeyed his brother.
Gabriel looked down at the weeping fledging and his heart went out to him. Crouching down he wrapped him in his arms as he spoke. "It's okay little one, it's okay. I'm not angry with you, I am just worried that you could have been hurt. I don't want anything to happen to you. I need you to stay away from that room from now on okay?" he said as he gently rubbed Castiel's back.
Slowly the tears stopped and soon dissolved into hiccups.
"Okay Gabriel. I won't go there again…I…was just so alone." Castiel got out between hiccups.
"I know kiddo. And I'll try not to leave you again okay?" Gabriel said softly.
At that Castiel nodded.
"Good. So what was Crowley saying when you went into the room?" he asked curiously.
"He keep talking about animals. I don't think he is mentally stable Gabriel." Castiel replied seriously to his brother.
This caused Gabriel to smile, he was pretty sure that no demon was mentally stable, but be that as it may he knew that Crowley called Dean Squirrel. Maybe he had pet names for Sam and Kevin as well? With that he realised that they should probably tell Dean about this. But first they needed to put Cassie blade away. With that thought he stood and turned only to come face to face with the man himself. Oh great, just great he thought looking up into the angry hunters face.
Dean had heard Cas and Gabriel come down the corridor but when they didn't come in or go past he got worried. Listening closer he thought he heard the sound of a child crying. At that he was up and out of the chair and at the door with only the thought of protecting Cas in his mind. Coming out of the door and into the corridor he saw Gabriel on one knee in the corridor opposite Cas, who had an angel blade in his hand. What the hell? Those things where sharp he could do himself some serious damage with that. Where the hell had it come from? With that thought Deans eyes widened hoping that it wasn't the one he had been using, but no, that was in the trunk of baby. So where did that one come from? Was Gabriel that careless with his weapons that Cas had managed to get one of his? What the hell kind of big brother was he? While these thoughts and questions went through Dean's head he watched Gabriel and Cas converse too low for him to hear and then Gabriel stood and turned to him.
"What's he doing with that?" Dean asked harshly making Castiel cower into himself at Dean's tone.
"It's his angel blade Dean-o." Gabriel replied calmly, not even trying to pretend he didn't know what Dean was talking about. They didn't have time for this.
"But, he's just a kid." Dean spluttered at him.
"He's older than you are Dean, and I'm pretty sure he could still kick your ass. He has been training to be a warrior of heaven since birth. He is much better with that blade than you could ever hope to be." And with that Gabriel took Castiel's hand and pushed past Dean.
"But Gabe he's a kid." Dean said incredulously to the archangel, whose patience already thin with the knowledge that Crowley knew Cas was here and the guilt he felt about having made Castiel cry snapped.
"I don't tell you how to be a human Dean, do not presume to tell me how to be an angel." He said his voice resonating down the corridor and his eyes starting to glow.
Dean gulped when he saw Gabriel's display of power. But he wasn't going to give up this one. Just as he was about to snap back a reply a shrill voice sounded out in the corridor "stop it, stop fighting." And with that both Gabriel and Dean turned to see Castiel run into Sam's room.
Glaring at each other they followed him.
