Dean and Cas walk down the corridor to the kitchen, Dean was glad that Gabriel wasn't around. Not that he didn't like the guy or that he was still pissed at him. Though he was, no it was because he wanted to spend some time with little Cas. Just the two of them. He had missed him while he was away hunting and then when they where in the bunker Gabriel was usually around. Not that was wrong it was just... Cas was Dean's best friend, his family, even if he was now a child.

"How you been buddy?" He asked turning to the kid at his side.

Castiel tilted his head at Deans question. It did not really make sense.

"I have been me Dean." He replied with a frown, trying to figure out what exactly Dean was asking him.

"Yeah okay. I meant how are you doing? You know being here?" Dean clarified with a chuckle at the clueless angel.

"I am happy now that you and Gabriel have returned. I didn't like it when you were gone." Castiel replied involuntarily tightening his hold on Dean's hand.

"Well we back now. But I might have to go again. You know go save more people." Dean said returning Cas' squeeze and hoping that he really did understand.

"I know Dean. But I do not like you going alone. Yet I don't like it when Gabriel leaves too." Castiel replied in a small voice.

"Okay buddy. Well how about I won't leave til Sam is well enough to come with me? How'd that sound?" Dean asked. He knew he shouldn't, there where god knows what out there fighting but he really didn't want to go alone any more than Cas wanted him too. And if it made Cas feel better, then that was all that mattered right? Family came first in Deans opinion, and Cas was family.

Castiel heard Deans proposition and it filled him with happiness, turning to look up at the righteous man he smiled a brilliant smile as he replied. "Thank you Dean. I would like that very much."

"okay so that's what we'll do then." Dean said returning the smile. It was impossible not to.

They reached the kitchen and Dean pulled on of the stools over to the sink.

"Right Cas. Need to wash our hands before we start cooking." He said smiling, running the water and getting some soap.

"Why?" Castiel asked. He was very confused.

"Cos we need clean hands. Can't have gems getting into the food." Dean reasoned, picking up the child and placing him on the stool.

"I am an angel Dean. My hands are already clean." Castiel replied though he didn't protest when Dean ran his hands under the tap and gave him the soap. Though he wasn't sure what to do with it.

"Like this Cas." Dean said taking the baby angels hands and moving the soap round between them showing him how to make sure they were clean.

Castiel watched what Dean was showing him intently. He may not need to do this as an angel but he liked to learn about new things, and this was something that humans did. He found it interesting to learn.

"Okay buddy. Hop off and dry your hands and I'll get out the ingredients for the burgers." Dean said when they both had clean hands.

Castiel did as Dean said and dried his hands on the towel on the side before turning back to find Dean hand moved the stool so that it was now at the side with a big bowl in front of it. Climbing back onto the stool he looked into the bowl to find it empty.

"What is this for Dean?" He asked confused again.

"Well I'll put the ingredients in and you mix them in the bowl okay?" Dean replied with a slightly exasperated smile.

"Very well." Castiel said amicably. Dean was after all the one who knew how to cook.

"You might find it easier if we take of your coat and jumper. Don't want to get them mucky." Dean said moving as if to try to remove Cas' clothes but suddenly the angel was no longer on the stool he was standing on the other side of the kitchen.

"No." was all Castiel said glaring at Dean. He did not want to remove his coat, if Dean was going to insist on that then he would leave.

"Okay buddy you don't have too. Lets just roll up the sleeves then shall we?" Dean asked in a placating manor.

Castiel thought about this for a moment then nodded his head in agreement and returned to the stool, climbing back up.

Once Castiel had his sleeves rolled up Dean put the ingredients into the bowl and then showed Cas how to mix them together, leaving him to it while he got out the pan for cooking the burgers.

Turning on the stove Dean looked over at Cas and couldn't help the smile that appeared on his lips. He had such a look of concentration on his face as he worked the burger mix. As if it was the most important thing in the world that he did this right.

"Okay, I think its done now kid. So lets make the burgers yeah?" he said coming over to show Cas how to shape them. He then went back to heating oil in the pan. When he turned back to help Cas make the patties he found that Cas had done them all. And they were all exactly the same size and shape. "Wow. Good job Cas." he said blinking at the burgers in front of him.

Castiel smiled at that, glad that Dean liked his burgers. He had tried to make them exactly as Dean had done, though his were not perfect, But Dean didn't seem to mind so he accepted them. He then watched Dean cooking them, he told Castiel not to get to close because the oil was hot and could burn him. Castiel found it strange that Dean would cook with holy oil. He said as much.

"Why are you cooking with holy oil Dean?" He asked standing well clear of the pan.

Dean looked at Cas as if he was crazy. Why would he be cooking with holy oil?

"I'm not." He replied causing Castiel to thrown.

"Then why did you warn me that the oil may burn?" He asked with a tilt of his head.

"Cos hot oil on sink burns." Dean replied wasn't that obvious?

"Not an angel it doesn't Dean." Castiel said simply.

Dean frowned. He kept forgetting that Cas was an angel. He just wanted to look out for the guy. While he was distracted the oil in the pan started spitting onto his hand.

"Son of a bitch." He yelped as the hot oil touched his skin. Great he had been telling Cas to be careful and burnt himself instead. He was just about to put his hand under cold water and hope that helped when he felt a small hand touch his. The pain vanished in an instant.

"Thanks Cas." He mumbled looking at the kid. He really was still an angel.

"It is not a problem Dean. That healing was relatively small and therefore I could use that which Gabriel has taught me." Castiel replied as if this was nothing strange, and for him it wasn't.

Dean looked down at him again and truly realised for the first time since he had found him in woods by the church just how different from a human kid Cas actually was. It seemed Gabriel was right, there was a lot he didn't know about looking after a fledgling. Not that he was going to tell the asshat that. With a shake of his head Dean put those thoughts to the back of his mind to be dealt with later. Right now he had to cook dinner.
